I've never had to drive through Australia, but I know for a fact that driving across Texas is a tougher trip because it requires willingly spending time in Texas.

Don't bring up Australia to Texans, they don't like how it's bigger in all their favorite fun facts.
For example, the biggest cow farm in the US is the King Ranch in Texas at 825k acres(3.3km2). Anna Creek Station in Australia is almost 5.9m acres(23.8km2). It has more area than Texas has fresh water surfaces(~7.3k miles2(~19k km2)).

to be fair, Texas is kind of known for not having a lot of fresh water surfaces. we only have one natural lake in the state; all the other ones are man-made.

I feel fortunate that as a Floridian my travel is restricted - 2-3 hours east or west and I'm in the water. But I can go south for 8-10 hours and not run out of road. 3-4 hours north to enter another state.
I'm closer to the Bahamas than I am to most of the lower 48. If I could drive straight there then I think I could hit Nassau in less time than it takes to get to Atlanta.

Not to knock you guys but saying that the country with the 3rd highest gdp in the world has better trains than the Balkan seems like a really low bar to clear. It's also that the Deutsche Bahn of the 70s was substantially better than what we have now, maybe apart from the bullet trains, which are hilariously expensive and comparatively slow regardless.

Back in 2015 I took the Trans-Siberian Railway. 72 hours non-stop on a train surrounded by a bunch of Russians who didn't speak a word of English, and most of that time was indeed spent within Siberia.

72 hours was just around half of it I suppose? I think the classic route is around 150 hours if it is done in one trip.

I was in Brazil and once took the short route but same time (12h ride), I passed through roads in the mountains where some parts of it there was only one lane to drive on because the other had collapsed into the cliff, it was crazy that the road was left open and they just put some signs of "collapsed road", plenty of times you couldn't see anything past the curve as they were extremely tight, and at one point the fog took over all my view. It took me 50% longer than GMaps said cause I was driving extremely slow and careful.
Never again (:

Argentina North/South is similar. If you do La Quiaca - Rio Gallegos it's 3800 kms +/- 46 hours. If you want to reach Ushuaia its a bit more complicated by land because you need to cross to Chile for a bit, then take a ferry that reenters Argentina. That's like 4400 kms, but the time goes off by +10-12 hours.

We were gassing up at a gas station, when a nice American couple came over and asked us how much longer it would take them to get to Alaska, and we were like WTF... they had no idea how big Canadian provinces were and thought they were similar size to American nothern states, we pointed them towards the nearest hotel and told em they were at least 1 day full drive out still...
