Luger and cert from ww2, my great grandpa was a sergeant and brought this home.
I’d never sell it, but I am curious what it’s worth for insurance purposes. To me it’s priceless.

I am posting this because the question keeps getting asked. Every single time it is asked, the wrong information gets out.
I've seen way too many posts on here and related subs around the subject of the law prohibiting the possession of firearms by any person who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution, 18 USC § 922 (g)(4). There is way too much misinformation out there. First of all, if you have any reason to believe that you are a prohibited person, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PURCHASE A FIREARM AS MAKING A FALSE STATEMENT ON THE FORM 4473 IS A FELONY. Second of all, please do not give advice on topics that you are not qualified to answer on. Third, you should consult with a qualified firearms rights attorney if you are unsure of your legal status.
The law:
18 USC § 922(g)(4)
(g)It shall be unlawful for any person—
(4)who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or who has been committed to a mental institution;
to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce, or possess in or affecting commerce, anyfirearm or ammunition; or to receive any firearm orammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.
What are the definitions of these terms?
27 CFR 478.11
Adjudicated as a mental defective. (a) A determination by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority that a person, as a result of marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease: (1) Is a danger to himself or to others; or (2) Lacks the mental capacity to contract or manage his own affairs. (b) The term shall include— (1) A finding of insanity by a court in a criminal case; and (2) Those persons found incompetent to stand trial or found not guilty by reason of lack of mental responsibility pursuant to articles 50a and 72b of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10U.S.C. 850a, 876b.
Committed to a mental institution. A formal commitment of a person to a mental institution by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority. The term includes a commitment to a mental institution involuntarily. The term includes commitment for mental defectiveness or mental illness. It also includes commitments for other reasons, such as for drug use. The term does not include a person in a mental institutionfor observation or a voluntary admission to a mental institution.
Mine happened when I was under 18. Isn’t that exempted?
Unfortunately no. A mental health adjudication or commitment at less than 18 years of age is counted for 922(g)(4). I experienced this personally and had to restore my rights.
What about HIPAA?
The Obama administration amended the HIPAA privacy rule in 2016 to make it clear that reporting mental health commitments and adjudications to NICS does not violate HIPAA
Is there a way to restore my rights after being adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution?
If you were committed by a department or agency of the federal government, the agency is required to have a relief from disabilities program under the NICS improvements amendments act of 2007.
If you were adjudicated or committed in a state proceeding, whether you can obtain relief is dependent on whether your state has implemented a relief from disabilities program under the NICS improvements amendments act of 2007. The list of states that have can be found here:
https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/guide/nicsactlist7-7-210pdf/download
If you are in a state that does not have a relief from disabilities program, your only avenue of relief is writing a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and asking her to restore your rights under 18 USC § 925(c) now that she has withdrawn the delegation from ATF.
Between October 6th 1992 and March 20th 2025 in the states that did not have a relief program, there was no avenue of relief at all
With that out of the way.
I created this privacy act request form for a friend of mine who was legitimately unsure if his commitments landed in the FBI database or if they qualified as “committed to a mental institution” under 18 USC § 922(g)(4) and as defined at 27 CFR 478.11. I can report that it worked; as in, the FBI processed the request and reported that no such records were found in the NICS indices.
This form will allow you to request your own records directly from the FBI.
In this post I will not be addressing the subject of my own journey regarding rights restoration related to mental health (you can ask me that privately). Nor am I an attorney licensed to practice law. Finally, I am not a mental health professional and cannot make the decision as to whether firearms ownership is right for you.
Onto the form. Please follow the instructions sheet very carefully, fill out every applicable box, print the form, have the request notarized, and mail it to the address indicated on the form.
The first response you receive will indicate that the FBI central records system does not maintain those records and your request has been forwarded to the Criminal Justice Information Services division. CJIS will respond a few weeks later. In my friend's case it took eight weeks for a final response from the FBI CJIS NICS section.

Has anyone ever had this issue with EO Tech 552? I had it on my 9 mm and today I got about four rounds into shooting. I heard a small pop and I completely lost the radical and when I started looking at it, there’s a loose piece of glass inside of it. Is there something that EO tech will cover?

I shipped a long gun sold through Gunbroker with USPS ground and purchased 1000 insurance on the package. I double checked the excluded items for the insurance:

The gun was stolen (I am assuming) as it has not had a single scan in over two weeks. I have had items randomly pop back up and start moving again at random but I am well within my time frame to claim a loss. I submitted my insurance claim for theft and was denied as they "do not insure firearms". This will likely be a battle to get covered but just wanted to put this as a big FYI out to everyone... Do NOT use Pirateship for firearms. When purchasing insurance on Pirateship, you are not purchasing traditional USPS insurance but through another carrier called UPSCapital that does not cover firearms. Fortunately I have archived the web page with these terms and conditions.
EDIT: Ok I just found this article
Clearly the person processing my claim is clueless.

For anyone following the ATF’s NFA enforcement shift: Wisconsin statutes still tie suppressor and SBR legality to federal registration, so owners here face Class H felony risk until Madison updates the law.
On Friday, Oct 9, DOJ and ATF announced they will no longer require approval or registration under the NFA for suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs, nationwide. This follows the Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF / Jensen v. ATF ruling in August. (The $200 tax on these items was already cut to $0 on Jan 1, 2026.)
But there's a big catch for Wisconsin. ATF's change is an enforcement policy. It doesn't repeal the NFA, and ATF says it doesn't change state law. Under Wis. Stat. § 941.298 (suppressors) and § 941.28 (SBRs and SBSs), possession is a Class H felony (up to 6 years and $10,000) unless you've "complied with the licensing and registration requirements under 26 USC 5801 to 5872." No Wisconsin court has ruled on how that applies now.
Until Madison fixes this, don't assume an unregistered suppressor or SBR is legal in Wisconsin. ATF is still processing Form 1s and Form 4s voluntarily, "because many state laws require individuals to register NFA firearms." Don't deregister anything you already own, since ATF says those items can't be re-registered later. You still need a Form 20 to take an SBR or SBS across state lines.
What you can do today (2 minutes):
Email template
Subject: Please update Wis. Stat. §§ 941.298 and 941.28 after the ATF's NFA change
Dear Senator [Last Name] and Representative [Last Name],
I'm a law-abiding gun owner in your district. Please introduce, co-sponsor, or support legislation to amend Wis. Stat. § 941.298(3)(c) and § 941.28(4).
On October 9, 2026, ATF announced it will no longer require federal approval or registration under the National Firearms Act for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns. Wisconsin law makes the legality of these items depend on compliance with federal NFA registration under 26 U.S.C. §§ 5801–5872, so responsible Wisconsin residents are now stuck in legal uncertainty, facing possible Class H felony charges under a federal system that is no longer being enforced.
Please remove the federal registration condition from these statutes so Wisconsin law matches current federal policy and responsible gun owners aren't left facing felony risk.
Thank you. I'd appreciate hearing your position on this.
Sincerely, [Your Name] [Street Address] [City, WI ZIP]
Not legal advice. Talk to an attorney about your own situation.

Im sure this has been discussed in several online articles and even other reddit communities but I wanted to gauge the group's thoughts on how the community is evolving and what that means for roles. For all intents and purposes, please chime in on your philosophy for this topic or your strategy in how youve set up your collection.
Although the AR15 reigns supreme as the do it all platform, I am seeing more people around me turning to pistol caliber carbines and even lever guns and bolt action rifles. For example, I have a friend who only shoots 556 through a bolt gun and uses a 45 caliber carbine. I have another friend who shoots an AR in 9mm and has a 308 lever gun. Interestingly, both these guys love ARs but have shifted their set ups.
What do you guys think? Are you seeing more guys go traditional on rifles and pistol calibers for semi auto?

In light of recent (fake) news that Ruger is discontinuing this product line, I decided it was my time to shine. My Ruger SR1911 Commander, a dedicated BBQ gun for when I wanna impress someone. Swapped a couple parts; rounded mainspring housing, Ed Brown magwell, faux-pearl grip panels with gold screws, and an unseen full-length guide rod and extended slide release. All polished and fit to the pistol by your truly, and it shoots nice and controllably as a result. Hammer and trigger are fine, but I've considered that Nighthawk trigger kit for when I have some money to blow, along with an Ed Brown threaded barrel. Pairs quite well with my shoulder holster, and another of my pistols that are getting passed down

In "The Quick and the Dead", John Herod takes Cort to a gun store, ran by the Kid. When Cort reveals he has no money, Herod offers to spot Cort a pistol and requests the "cheapest piece of crap in the whole store."
The kid plops down a rusted POS in .38 Long Colt for five bucks.
What is the cheapest gun you own that you'd trust your life to?
I'll go first.
Ruger Max-9 with an O sight green dot, riding in a We The People IWB holster.
Gun- $250 at Academy.
O sight was $150 on Amazon.
Holster was $30 on sale.
All in for less than $500.
Pistols, shotguns, rifles - any are game. Let's see em!

Are there any metal printing services that will print designs and ship to ffls if required? As far as I'm aware thread adapters and non-suppressor muzzel devices don't require any special handling as long as they are US made, but if I wanted to have parts made professionally and by the book is there any easy way to do it?

I am about to make my first p365 build, and was planning to use the X-macro grip module with a Radian backstrap/magwell combo.
I live in Illinois so I have a 15rd capacity limit, and there is even legal grey area in getting capacity reduced 17rd mags. It seems that PMAG's 15rd mags do not fit very well at all (see second image).
On another post I saw someone recommend Tactical Development’s XM-15 basepad that can be attached to a P365/X/XL 15RD mag; however, it says directly on their site that "Tapered to fit in a magwell. (Does not fit Radian Arms Magwell)". Can anyone confirm whether this is true or untrue?
If anyone has any solutions that work well and are relatively flush, please let me know!

Dad’s birthday is coming up-I was thinking about getting him some things, but wanted to run it by people that might think more like him. I tried asking my mom, but she’s no help. And if she mentions anything to my dad and he likes it he buys it for himself so… can’t do that.
For some background he’s retired 20+yrs military, goes to the range every weekend with his friends. He has mainly pistols and some AR’s. Some hunting rifles but not as many since I moved out.
For a main big gift i wanted to grab him a new pistol carry case. I’m between 2, I’ll link the Amazon url so you guys can see.
A (up to) 6 pistol with a highly configurable foam insert for gear like his ear pro plus lots of mag slots depending on set up
Or this one from a more reputable brand BUT the foam isn’t configurable so it would be whatever he can fit in the top plus his pistols.
If you were getting one which would you prefer? I plan on stocking it with new electronic ear pro, a new cleaning kit and some ammo plus a new nine line tshirt. Thanks!

Does this thread adapter exist? I’ve tried looking online everywhere and I can’t seem to find it…. Don’t get this confused by your standard 5/8 x 24. I need the x 18 for an oil filter I bought at autozone today. Any help is appreciated and would also offer some money to anyone who can special make this for me. Thank you!

If you are laser bore sighting a rifle at 5 yards for a 36 yard zero using one of those targets you can print out to adjust for the short distance . Where do you put your laser mounted underneath? With the reticle or the point of impact bore sight laser

I have a 5.56 Ruger MPR with an 18in barrel and I really want to get a suppressor with the recent changes that have been made. I’m fairly ignorant to a lot of the mechanics inside the gun but I’ve been told that it runs very gassy stock. The can im looking at getting is the B&T PRINT-XH RBS 5.56 which from what I’ve seen online has nothing but great reviews. Should I get an adjustable gas block? What does that do? Overall im really just looking to see what all I need to do to be able to shoot my ar with this can. Do I need to buy any sort of adapter? Does it come with what I need? Any recommendations on other cans? No plan to shoot full auto but would like the capability to do so. Shopping on silencer shop. Please drop some knowledge 🙏

CVA Cascade .308
Rifle was punching horrible groups and very inconsistent. After a little while, I found 1 action screw very loose. Took everything apart and did a super thorough cleaning including scope, rings, base. Currently I’m getting 5” groups at 50 yards. Everything feels solid, torqued to specs. Is it possible the damage has been done to the action or stock? I’m looking into getting pillar sleeves. How do I find the correct size?
