First build post on here, how did I do?
Planning on adding a flashlight and sling next. Any other valuable upgrades y’all would recommend?

It’s such a simple device, but a real improvement in reload operation on the Mini.

Do I need a new bolt? The first picture looks like metal overlap, and the second picture is an edge that is sharp and protruding. Maybe came about from wear. Overall, I’m thinking of filing. Is this normal wear, or is it cause it’s old and I need a new bolt, or filing will do? Thanks for your time.

Hey everyone! New Mini-14 use here. I picked mine up brand new about a month ago, and I'm having a blast with it. It is a Mini-14 Ranch with a classic wood stock. As soon as I got it, I disassembled it, fully cleaned it, oiled and greased it up as per the Brownell's videos on YouTube, and hit the range.
Unfortunately, it sometimes has issues stripping the next round out of the magazine, and the bolt stays open. All I have to do is pull the charging handle back and let go and the round chambers every time, at least. It happens with my cheapo Promag 30-round magazines, as well as both the 5 and 10 round Ruger brand magazines I have.
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you go about fixing it? The ammo I'm using is PMC X-TAC 55gr. I have made no modifications to the rifle.
Thank you for your time!

I’m a law abiding Chicago citizen. There aren’t too many semi-autos available to us within current state rules, but the Mini-14 ranch works perfectly. In a non-ban state, would I be able to justify something that has the functionality of an AR, but is more expensive, slightly clunkier, but WAY cooler? No. But because of my circumstances i am a mini enjoyer. The garand style action is satisfying as fuck and the wood furniture is classy. the hunting rifle aesthetics are less threatening to my relatively anti-gun family and the average cop than a black rifle. I plan to beef it up with a Hannibal rail, optic, and light at some point.
I got mine used, had to get it worked on in the factory a bit, but customer service was great. just blasted some targets in the woods out in Wisconsin and no issues. I love this thing.

Added this to the arsenal today. 3rd mini 14. My 11th Ruger over all.
All that I see different is the “Ruger Retro Folding Stock™ manufactured in-house by Ruger using original tooling” in the lower description. That’s very generic on their other folder models. Stock still not available on their parts section but this is movement toward more folders.

My gas port bushing came out absolutely mangled after I put it back together and took it to the range (I didnt align it to the piston correctly) everything else is fine but I need a new bushing and it seems the online shops that sell it are out. I put in a service/parts req with Ruger's online customer service but when I call them it says "Our business office is closed due to unforseen circumstances." And hangs up. Any suggestions on how to get a new gas port bushing?

I see a lot of posts on here asking about failure to feed and failure to eject causes. Seems the large amount of answers are saying a magazine issue. This is a failure to eject. In the attached video there's no magazine inserted. I've tried this before with a magazine - both empty and with a round following (snap cap so it's safe) - and it still fails to kick the spent casing off. Looking at the ejector, it looks like it fills the groove on the bolt perfectly fine and I can't see any obvious reason why it's not catching the empty casing. I'll post pictures in the comments - it won't let me post pictures with the video. Thoughts?

I just added a Samson rail with a Holosun ARO. My mini is an older model with the flip up sights. The sights are now more useless than normal. Does anyone know if the tech sight can function as backup sights? Or if there is any other solution.

Soldier of Fortune magazine was a very dumb and very influential magazine for 20-30 years, selling fantasies of militarized violence to macho wannabes. You know, the kind of guys who sit around telling themselves that they're really secret badasses, and amass a collection of "tactical" mall ninja shit. You've probably met one of these guys, but if you haven't, just picture Frank "Superspy who won the world fighting championship but was so covert there's no record of any of this" Dux.
Naturally, they had a TON of ads for knives and karate manuals and (of fucking course) Nazi memorabilia. They also had a lot of ads for gun accessories. I was looking at an issue from 1982, and noticed a bunch of ads for Mini-14 accessories. This was back when they were in their initial surge of popularity, when they were cheaper than ARs, and considered more reliable. (There are plenty of stories in SoF about how the AR platform is crap, usually as part of some "We would've won Vietnam if not for..." nonsense.) So next time you turn up an absolutely bizarre Mini-14 build from back in the day, it might well have been sourced from one of these sketchy little ads.

I heard a rumor somewhere that access engineering labs was working on one but I can't find anything regarding status or updates.
Anyone know of any f r t by any company being made for the mini?
