Rule Change - Absolutely NO Sales

Hi everyone:

As you may have seen, moderators of some firearms related subs have recently been made aware of an upcoming change to the Reddit rules (these are the sitewide rules that all users agree to when creating an account, not just rules for our sub) that involves the personal sales of gun "parts and enhancements."

In the past, the Reddit rules - specifically Rule 7, which reads "Keep it legal, and avoid posting illegal content or soliciting or facilitating illegal or prohibited transactions" - had the following list of "illegal transactions":

You may not use Reddit to solicit or facilitate any transaction or gift involving certain goods and services, including

Firearms, ammunition, explosives, legally controlled firearms parts or accessories (e.g., bump stock-type devices, silencers/suppressors, etc.), or 3D printing files to produce any of the aforementioned;

That rule is being updated to read as follows, starting on October 9th:

Firearms, ammunition, explosives, firearms parts and enhancements (e.g. bolt, clips, trigger, scope, silencer / suppressor, muffler, bump stock, magazine, glock switch, conversion kit, etc) or specific instructions (e.g. 3D printing files) to produce any of the aforementioned.

Reddit does have a disclaimer that says:

With regard to Reddit's policy on transactions of certain goods:

External links to firearm vendors holding a Federal Firearms License are not in violation of this policy. However, links to vendors without an FFL are prohibited (this would include links to gun shows or other sales or listings, online or offline, where vendors do not hold an FFL). Direct user-to-user transactions arranged on Reddit for firearms or ammunition are also prohibited, regardless of whether either user holds an FFL.

This policy does not impact goods that do not meet the ATF definition of firearms or ammunition.

It is unclear if that disclaimer will be changed on or after October 9th, and or how that disclaimer affects things like linking to a company that sells magazines or scopes but does not have an FFL, as neither a magazine nor a scope meet the ATF definition of firearms or ammunition.

We used to allow the occasional personal for sale post for non-firearm items like optics or the like, but due to this rule change we will no longer be able to do that, and we have to warn folks that any links posted to any firearms items that are for sale by a non-FFL will be removed.

We don't want to be harsh about this, but it's quite clear that Reddit is cracking down hard on gun content and we really don't want to lose this community, which is already happening to a bunch of gun accessory for sale subs which were banned without any warning in advance of this rule change.

The "Big List" of Industry Vendors Friendly to Marylanders

This Thread will serve as a list of firearms industry vendors who are "friendly" to Marylanders. We have a lot of particular and peculiar laws here, and not all vendors want to (or to be fair, can afford to) take the time to understand those laws and help those of us who live here out.

This list isn't meant to be "vendors that we happen to like" or whatever, but instead a list of vendors who specifically do things to help Marylanders. Some examples of things that should be on this list:

  • Vendors who include standard capacity magazines so a local FFL can block them for us.
  • Maryland FFLs who offer magazine blocking services.
  • Vendors who offer magazine rebuild kits.
  • Vendors (external or Maryland FFL) who will remove muzzle devices or other features to make rifles compliant.

You get the idea. If a vendor does something specifically to help those of us in Maryland, then they belong on this list.

I'll start things off, but I'll add to and maintain this list based on submissions from the community in the form of posts in this thread. I won't always be able to add things immediately, but I will do so as regularly as I can.

Thanks, and thanks especially to the vendors who support those of us in Maryland!

Magazine Rebuild Kits:

  • u/Hunter_Wang who owns Ibex Armament will do magazine rebuild kits on request and has extremely fair pricing. I've bought from Ibex myself and they're great to deal with.
  • JoeBob Outfitters will do magazine rebuild kits on request, though I have no personal experience with them.
  • Magged Supply offers magazine rebuild kits, though their pricing is..... very high.

Dealers that ship standard capacity mags with a firearm:

  • To be added

Maryland FFLs who will block standard capacity magazines:

  • To be added

Vendors who offer Maryland specific discounts:

  • To be added

I will add categories to this list if / when we get requests and enough submissions for one.

Hypothetical question

One purchases a suppressor via 4473. 2 years from now the political winds change and the antis take all three branches of govt.

In this scenario many might want to form 4 their suppressor before the federal govt reenacts the tax stamp but instead of $200 its $2,000 or $20,000. How does one form 4 a suppressor already manufactured, purchased, and transferred to a FFL vis Form 3. I don’t think this has ever been done.

Shoot a match in MD and stay in MD?

Hello my fellow freedom deprived firearm owners!

I am interested in coming from Buffalo, NY to shoot a match in Maryland or Virginia with some family but I am looking for some guidance on the legality of it.

Looking at Md. Criminal Law Code Ann. § 4-203 I have gathered the following:

  • (4) the wearing, carrying, or transporting by a person of a handgun used in connection with an organized military activity, a target shoot, formal or informal target practice, sport shooting event, hunting, a Department of Natural Resources-sponsored firearms and hunter safety class, trapping, or a dog obedience training class or show, while the person is engaged in, on the way to, or returning from that activity if each handgun is unloaded and carried in an enclosed case or an enclosed holster;
    • So this should cover me for shooting a match in MD, but will it cover me if I am shooting a match in VA?
  • (3) the carrying of a handgun on the person or in a vehicle while the person is transporting the handgun to or from the place of legal purchase or sale, or to or from a bona fide repair shop, or between bona fide residences of the person, or between the bona fide residence and place of business of the person, if the business is operated and owned substantially by the person if each handgun is unloaded and carried in an enclosed case or an enclosed holster;
    • This is where I am hung up overall. Will I be able to stay in MD, and specifically with family? I have found random info on here saying that when you rent a hotel in MD it becomes your bona fide residence. Will staying with direct relatives be an issue here?

Thanks for any insight here. Hopefully I can get a good idea of what is legal before/in place of calling the MSP.

10.5 inches ar pistol with brace

I am still confused about this. Is a 10.5-inch barrel ar pistol (registered as pistol) that came with a brace considered an SBR? Update: I found this in VAgun sub. This was very unfortunate even in FL. https://thegunwriter.substack.com/p/special-report-when-florida-police

As an update to my previous post, here's the two guns I'm debating. Similar price cuz the M&P is used. I'm trying them out at the range soon, but in the meantime, what are y'all's thoughts on this?

Is buying a used gun a risk?

Saw a pretty sweet deal on a like-new used M&P 9 2.0 the other day. It was $200-$300 below MSRP. Gonna try it out at the range, but are there any risks related to its used status? I can only imagine someone would only return such a quality firearm if it was a lemon or something.

Building SBR in MD after new NFA enforcement ruling

Title basically says it. I have 2 lowers already, would like to buy a 11.5-12.5” upper to make myself an SBR. What steps do I need to take given the new guidance to keep myself out of potential trouble? Are there any of Maryland’s goofy ass barrel restrictions to worry about?

Everyone’s talking about sbrs and suppressors when I’m trying to know if it’s legal to introduce a saw to a barrel.

Can I put a VFG on a pistol in MD now?

What’s the consensus here? I don’t want to SBR anything under 29” but can I legally put a VFG on now?

1911 Gunsmith

I'll be getting a threaded barrel and suppressor for my 1911 in the next few days. I know I can hope the barrel drops in or watch YouTube videos for some minor adjustments myself.

Ideally I'd like find a gunsmith to fit the barrel for me... and not just any gunsmith, one who actually is good with a 1911, not some glockhead who says a gun is a gun and not only ruins my barrel, but possibly even my gun when they determine that's the problem, not their lack of experience with a 1911.

Any help pointing me in the right direction is appreciated.

Maybe this has been pointed out but I have been waiting for guidance before purchasing. SS shop connected dealers has a notation who is transferring via 4473 and who is still requiring Form 4.

ATF issues notice on NFA Injunctions.

TLDR; injunction applies to everyone regardless of plaintiffs.

Form 1/4s etc will remain in a voluntary basis and are not required for ownership, possession or transfer.

Considering MD still requires SBR/SBS to be registered with the ATF to be legal in Maryland, and also views them aa “pistols” instead of banned rifles for some models, this is probably the best win we could’ve seen on this.

We call it the Glock Ban, but what other guns are affected?

Since that law targets guns with cruciform triggers/readily convertible pistols. That makes me wonder what other guns that would include?
