I deal with this kind of stuff all the time. I'll take somebody into custody that's acting like a damn fool screaming yelling and disturbing the peace. As soon as somebody that outranks me shows up they are the most rational calm person ever. Then almost every time my supervisor says "well I got to go with what my officer says".

u/NukaClipse 11h ago
Go get a church and preach there if you feel the need to be some conduit to God. I'll never understand this obsessive need to be obnoxiously religious and make others uncomfortable.
44
u/chairmanhao3 11h ago
It's a part of the religion itself. Proselytizing to the lowly unsaved.
Usually a part of most religions. It's marketing and gives people the right to do horrible snarky shit and feel like they're saving the world
→ More replies (8)17
u/Witty-Objective3431 11h ago
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The bible says that the children of god will be persecuted for their faith because they have been set a part and chosen by god. The persecution, the "spiritual warfare", only reinforces how special they are supposed to be. It only deepens the hold of the religion. It is a cycle that only makes them louder and more obnoxious the more everyone else complains. There is nothing quite like the christian ego.

u/3BlindMice1 9h ago
It also isolates them further from society as a whole; they're actively taking part in their disenfranchisement from public discourse, increasing their reliance on the cult they're a member of. It's a stone that hits many birds

I’m a follower of Christ and I recognize this form of sharing the gospel as abusive and harmful. If you want to dismantle Christianity, send more people into the world that give others no choice but to hear their interpretation of what is actually a very profound subject and has the potential to create very fruitful discussions. I don’t know what preceded this moment, but if it was her standing up and making a PSA without the consent of the airline or their passengers, it’s straight up abusive.
I love talking about the Bible, but this is not the way to do it.
15
u/Future-Sky-5059 10h ago
I grew up in NYC and had a lifetime of preachers in the subway. It’s more than a public nuisance. You never know if someone is going to get agitated and react badly. Preaching in confined spaces with no warning puts everyone in harm’s way.

Now imagine if, say, a Muslim started praying loudly on the plane as it was in flight? Do you think this Christian woman in the video would have been understanding and accepting of that? I think we can all agree that she wouldn't, and most likely a majority of passengers would feel incredibly unsafe.
Now ask how that's any different than some obnoxious Christian proselytizing. It isn't.

u/A-Halfpound 8h ago
Let’s be clear, this is not “sharing” gospel or anything in this situation. Don’t be reductive in order to minimize what she is doing.
She is forcing the Gospel on everyone in that airplane. The passengers do not have a choice after boarding. They are trapped. And as such, that very distinctly goes against the Bible’s teachings.

Obnoxious religious beliefs have started many wars. If they feel taking over a country in the name of their god is ok, of course annoying people in a plane is fine in their books.

This is some mental health shit. Obviously religious, but social media makes it worse. Vast majority of these folks need medication or at least consistent therapy. She talks like the lady from the west coast that got into a death cult & killed her kids before trying to flee to Hawaii.

They're either guilty, or they're looking for/want something. I've had the pleasure of knowing some genuine Christians in my life. Beautiful people who took all the good and none of the bad out of theology. They never, ever had to talk about it or praise God every time they farted. The subject just never came up because they're real and secure in their beliefs and person.

A few things here. Airplanes aren't a democracy. The pilot is the dictator and the crew are his/her deputies. They don't eff around if people can't be chill while on the ground. Bec in the air having dipshits like this could be deadly for all involved. The pilot has full discretion on who he/she allows on his aircraft. That authority was granted by the government and administered by the FAA. If he/she doesn't follow the rules, the pilot gets in trouble, not the passenger. You can't even make idiodic jokes about bombs being on the plane. You will get arrested and charged and put on no fly list.
Secondly, this woman is a DUMBA#$! She doesn't read the very Bible that she is preaching about!
Romans 13: Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted,

Matthew 6:6 (NIV) states: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Matthew 6:5 (NIV) also applies here: "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."
People like the lady in the video LOVE to be seen praying. That's why they pull stunts like this. It's pure pride.

The amount of people silent during that was disappointing. Not even one "STFU and GTFO, lady!"
I like how she thinks she's the only cHriSiTiAn on the plane.
At the end, she totally turned the camera off and went full-Karen, didn't she?
I like that the FA was nudging her bag because the crybaby faux-Christian kept stopping to talk to her phone like a child.
28
u/Open_Boysenberry_363 9h ago
In defense of the other people.... it seems the matter was being handled by the airline employee, why antagonize the situation. Me, I am sure I would just want to be getting to where I am going without risking getting myself thrown off if maga christian karen decides to fly into a rage and start a fist fight because I tell her to just fuck off the flight. Now, if cops came and needed a witness to support the employee? Damn right I'd speak up.

Case in point, they make themselves look looney. The crew did her a solid by politely asking her to step off the plane with a reasonable reason. Thats it. Privately no embarrassment. She herself went off the rails trying to instigate a riot.
18
u/Xyldarrand 10h ago
Arguing with her is pointless. All it's going to do is make her turn and cluck at you at high volume.

Hey Americans, is that a big thing in the states? Do you have a lot of those people around or is it just random shorts and the rest of the world gets the wrong idea of your country?
Edit: Thank you for all the answers. And thanks that you took it as a real question and not some trolling bs. I know that every country has its fair share of problematic people but was just interested how common that is in the states. We for example have a picture book street preacher with cardboard signs and everything in my little town.
Would love to visit your country at some point in the future. Hope you have an awesome day. Cheers.
57
u/Basic-Record-4750 10h ago
There have always been a few people like this. What you’re seeing now is the opening shots of a religious war these evangelical nuttters are trying to create. They have an entire blueprint for taking over the country and turning it into a Christian theocracy. However they chose the Antichrist as their beloved leader and the takeover hasn’t been going as smoothly as they expected, primarily because the leader they chose is not Christian (still not sure how they missed that) and he’s more interested in enriching himself and renaming things than he is in their agenda. So, seeing their plan go down in flames they are turning to these theatrical public displays in an effort to show themselves as “persecuted”. What they’re hoping is to have another Charlie Kirk ending so they can build up more momentum for their cause

I've known some kinda like this, but in milder forms and everything, literally everything comes back to Jesus. "Thank you Jesus for these delicious Cheetos." u/Adventurous_Ad_6546 7h ago
I really appreciate you asking this.
Random shorts. There have always been pockets of the US that have a higher population of people like this and where you’re more likely to run into this particular brand of crazy, but IME this sort of thing is blessedly (ha!) rare.
Please don’t believe the stuff you see on social media, which amplifies the message spread by a very vocal minority. There are so many smart, decent people in states, and plenty of us are actively working to rectify the shameful political situation, which we never wanted in the first place.

Seeing so-called Christians behave this way, I can’t help but wonder if they’re actually hoping for the end times to come now.
If you genuinely believe the world is doomed anyway, why bother protecting the environment, fighting for a better future, or caring about what happens to humanity?
The irony is that, in waiting for the world to end, they might be helping bring about the very destruction they claim to believe is inevitable.

Note to evangelicals. No, it isn't the message that makes people feel unsafe. It is the unhinged person refusing to shut up and ranting to a captured audience that can't walk away that makes people feel unsafe.
Can you imagine her reaction if she were on a plane and someone started preaching about Mohammed or Satan or Odin and she couldn't leave it get away from it? My guess is she would feel very unsafe.
