Go get a church and preach there if you feel the need to be some conduit to God. I'll never understand this obsessive need to be obnoxiously religious and make others uncomfortable.

44

u/chairmanhao3 14h ago

It's a part of the religion itself. Proselytizing to the lowly unsaved.

Usually a part of most religions. It's marketing and gives people the right to do horrible snarky shit and feel like they're saving the world

20

u/Witty-Objective3431 13h ago

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. The bible says that the children of god will be persecuted for their faith because they have been set a part and chosen by god. The persecution, the "spiritual warfare", only reinforces how special they are supposed to be. It only deepens the hold of the religion. It is a cycle that only makes them louder and more obnoxious the more everyone else complains. There is nothing quite like the christian ego.

6

u/3BlindMice1 12h ago

It also isolates them further from society as a whole; they're actively taking part in their disenfranchisement from public discourse, increasing their reliance on the cult they're a member of. It's a stone that hits many birds

u/Faeruhn 9h ago

I mean, this is literally the entire reason that the 'door knocker' religions (Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses) send out specifically their young people and recent converts to do it, and only after they have told/taught them a specific way to go about it (a way that is guaranteed to make people annoyed with them).

It is entirely about deepening their hold on the young and/or converted and has nothing to do with trying to "spread the word" or even about looking for new converts.

"Oh you poor boy, look at how the world spurned you when you were just trying to do a 'good thing', but We love and accept you."

2

u/aledba 13h ago

Ew that reminds me of how much I hate evangelists

0

u/Born_Jicama_5988 13h ago

The endless proselytizing really seems Christian specific. The closest thing I can think of is Islam but they prefer spreading their faith with fantasies of world conquest, so it’s more dangerous but less annoying.

Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, folk religions most religions don’t do this bullshit.

1

u/chairmanhao3 13h ago

Please stop with the childish belief that Islam is that much different or somehow more susepticble to "world domination"

You are unaware of history and reality if you believe that.

Chrisinity has been used for world conquering for thousands of years and continues to be.

Colonization. Western imperialism. Crusades.

You're falling for propaganda from inside the eye of the storm. Christians are no better than Muslims.

1

u/Born_Jicama_5988 13h ago

Maybe I’m being misunderstood here because that’s not what I intended to say. All the abrahamic religions have the prophesy and goal of becoming the global religion everyone has to bow to. It’s not a feature of all religions.

2

u/chairmanhao3 13h ago

All good bro. Just sick of people thinking western/Christian countries aren't imperial when they are historically huge colonizers and imperialists.

1

u/Born_Jicama_5988 12h ago

Yeah get it, I see the problem with my phrasing. I just meant they got different style. Obviously Christian’s are on their conquest trip too

0

u/Born_Jicama_5988 13h ago

Look at the actually history tho. It’s interesting. And Mr.chairman do you not see the irony in your moral outrage and proselytizing at me in your comment?

21

u/MotormaidofJapan 13h ago

it's mental illness. That's why the crew doesn't feel safe. This kind of behavior is mental illness, full stop.

1

u/GenerationNerd 13h ago

Exactly, it's the manner and not necessarily the message. Same thing would happen if someone were loudly and aggressively expounding on the benefits of flossing to oral health.

28

u/imamajorscale 13h ago

I’m a follower of Christ and I recognize this form of sharing the gospel as abusive and harmful. If you want to dismantle Christianity, send more people into the world that give others no choice but to hear their interpretation of what is actually a very profound subject and has the potential to create very fruitful discussions. I don’t know what preceded this moment, but if it was her standing up and making a PSA without the consent of the airline or their passengers, it’s straight up abusive.

I love talking about the Bible, but this is not the way to do it.

15

u/Future-Sky-5059 13h ago

I grew up in NYC and had a lifetime of preachers in the subway. It’s more than a public nuisance. You never know if someone is going to get agitated and react badly. Preaching in confined spaces with no warning puts everyone in harm’s way.

9

u/Leberknodel 13h ago

Now imagine if, say, a Muslim started praying loudly on the plane as it was in flight? Do you think this Christian woman in the video would have been understanding and accepting of that? I think we can all agree that she wouldn't, and most likely a majority of passengers would feel incredibly unsafe.

Now ask how that's any different than some obnoxious Christian proselytizing. It isn't.

1

u/imamajorscale 10h ago

Having been around these types of people for a long time, it depends on the person. A woman would unlikely speak against a man practicing Islam, but a bold man who recently began blindly following contemporary religious tradition might start speaking against it.

1

u/FunWolverine5349 11h ago

lol that guy on the F train, wonder if he's still there. Every single day, preaching, attacking young men for some reason especially. It's a crowded rush hour train and this obviously unemployed man ranting and talking down to everyone.

5

u/A-Halfpound 11h ago

Let’s be clear, this is not “sharing” gospel or anything in this situation. Don’t be reductive in order to minimize what she is doing.

She is forcing the Gospel on  everyone in that airplane. The passengers do not have a choice after boarding. They are trapped. And as such, that very distinctly goes against the Bible’s teachings.

2

u/imamajorscale 11h ago edited 11h ago

The entire point I’m trying to make is this: I’m wholeheartedly not in support of this method of sharing the word of God and I agree with what you’re saying. The people speaking think it’s sharing but it’s forcing just like you said. I’m in a situation in life where this happens constantly and it’s like nails on a chalkboard. I try to lovingly correct their approach and they won’t listen so I disengage and continue my relationship with God in my own time.

1

u/Disastrous_Towel3729 8h ago

Your point is moot

1

u/imamajorscale 7h ago

Idk the whole world thinks the subject of this video is how all followers of Christ behave by default and I’m saying, as a follower of the Way, this is the worst way to behave. I think there’s some relevance there but you can think whatever you want my guy.

2

u/RealnessInMadness 13h ago

That’s exactly what
Happened and it’s a trend with your fellow followers.

She’s not the first or last to do this shit. Go look it up.

At its core, if you had permission from the airline? Cool.

But let’s be real, how often do those things get approved eh? There’s your real answer there.

3

u/imamajorscale 13h ago

The entire point I’m trying to make is this: I’m wholeheartedly not in support of this method of sharing the word of God.

1

u/Disastrous_Towel3729 8h ago

In the end times people will be prosecuted for talking about Jesus. Like it or not she is correct. If her preaching reached even one soul on that plane it was so worth her troubles

-2

u/yogiyogiyogi69 13h ago

Let's talk about the Bible. Let's talk about numbers 31 and genocide and the child trafficking of 32,000 virgins by Moses and the Israelites. Gods share of the virgin girls was 32, but he gave them to the priest. Release the Moses files!

And please don't tell me they deserved it and it was a good thing because God and we just don't understand gods genius

1

u/jlit72 13h ago

Not the time or the place. Just like the woman in the video. Sit down and learn something

1

u/stevieblunder7001 13h ago

Psst…they can’t process logic or reason when spoken to about their imaginary angry/loving sky daddy or his magic book. They always have some circular noodle logic when confronted with the absolute idiocy of their beliefs. “It’s a paradox!”

1

u/imamajorscale 13h ago

I always avoid people think they have it all figured out. There’s so much mystery contained in these books and it’s worth discussing. Anyone who claims to know it all is lying to themselves and everyone else. Disregard them.

1

u/imamajorscale 13h ago edited 13h ago

There are a lot of atrocities recorded in what we call the OT, and this one is undoubtedly a graphic account of what took place. I haven’t done an in depth study of this book yet so I can’t speak on it. Now that you’ve brought it to my attention, I’ll make a mental note to look into what led up to this point because it is certainly a heavy account of human relations. It’s also important to see how things unfolded afterwards. Often times, the people suffer for the atrocities that they commit. Just like any story, you can’t isolate one part and say that’s the whole story.

I see this as more of an account of what took place rather than a justification of it. Many people who haven’t taken the time to read the books in the Bible assume that others who do take every word as a justification to allow themselves to behave in the same way. Some people who read it at a glance do in fact treat it this way; I believe it’s reckless, irresponsible, and both academically and spiritually dishonest, but that doesn’t mean everyone does this.

What is recorded in Numbers might show us how things were done, but it doesn’t justify the actions that are recorded. This is what is so interesting about these stories, they aren’t all sunshine and rainbows like most of institutionalized religion would have you believe. This collection of books reads more like a journal entry of people who have been taken advantage of and oppressed and their reactions to it.

We can all relate to that because we all feel or have felt that at some point.

7

u/jimhabfan 13h ago

It’s like watching a mentally ill person in public blabbering about their invisible friend who everyone needs to believe in and if you don’t believe he’s real he’s going to set you on fire forever when you die, bla bla bla….

1

u/jljonsn 13h ago

"Like"? It us exactly that.

7

u/mmooney1 13h ago

Obnoxious religious beliefs have started many wars. If they feel taking over a country in the name of their god is ok, of course annoying people in a plane is fine in their books.

4

u/green49285 13h ago

This is some mental health shit. Obviously religious, but social media makes it worse. Vast majority of these folks need medication or at least consistent therapy. She talks like the lady from the west coast that got into a death cult & killed her kids before trying to flee to Hawaii.

Id kill to know what specific sect shes in.

2

u/FeelGoodNotBad 13h ago

Religious psychosis, she’s got it bad.

7

u/MojoRisin909 14h ago

They're either guilty, or they're looking for/want something. I've had the pleasure of knowing some genuine Christians in my life. Beautiful people who took all the good and none of the bad out of theology. They never, ever had to talk about it or praise God every time they farted. The subject just never came up because they're real and secure in their beliefs and person.

-6

u/definitelynotapastor 13h ago

On the other hand. They weren't fulling the commands of Christ to make disciples either.

3

u/imperialivan 13h ago

Well according to the bible godly women shouldn’t be preaching to men.

2

u/MojoRisin909 13h ago

Yeah, it's almost like rational decent people don't go splitting hairs and taking everything to its literal extreme. That's sounds more like something messed up/toxic people with mental health issues do. If there is a God, and he's just, I'm sure he won't make too big of a fuss over people with religious beliefs not preaching to people at Bee Dubs on game night or screeching in an airplane before takeoff.

2

u/PM_Pussys 13h ago

Except they absolutely were. Glowing reviews of Christianity based on glowing reviews of Christians following God's word absolutely makes disciples of Christ.

See also, it "not coming up" just means they weren't proselytizing. Mojo knew they were (are) devout Christians, so it came up sometime. And security of belief can be convincing on its own, even if the belief is in something crazy. It's the whole message in the Bible about "true believers".

2

u/foreverandadayalone 13h ago

Street corners are fair game. People are free to keep moving away from you. Passengers locking into an airplane seat...not so much.

1

u/Less-Celebration-182 13h ago

Of course you’re right. But also… that’s probably what got her into this mess. Guaranteed her parents sent her to Jesus camp, just like the thousands of kids currently living the same experience. Messes with peoples’ heads in a big way.

1

u/StevInPitt 13h ago

It's goal isn't to gain converts.
It's goal is to increase the "only we understand you and the world is EVIL stay with US!" gestalt eery cult requires to exist.

And that knowledge is also in the Bible. But yes there is a lot in fundamentalist religion that is meant to alienate you from others.

18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. (John 15:18-19 NIV)

1

u/FleaBottoms 12h ago

This is just Vanity and narcissistic behavior.

1

u/Claytonius_Homeytron 12h ago

The indoctrination starts early with these clowns.

I saw a documentary a few years back, think it was called Jesus Camp. I remember this one part where this evangelical family and their young daughter were at a bowling alley and instead of enjoying her time with her family, this poor indoctrinated little girl was anguishing herself to work up the courage to bother (AKA witness to) a couple bowling next to them. It was all she could fixate on, and I remember her father going, "Oh that's so sweet of you!". They fucked that kid up bigtime. This lady is the adult evolution of that.

1

u/Shigglyboo 12h ago

Many churches tell their followers to go out into the “evil world” and “witness” or “spread the good word”.
And you’re allowed to. But a private company has to make everyone feel welcome. And I don’t want anybody abusing the fact that I’m stuck there and trying to force me to hear their religion.

1

u/SnorkBorkGnork 11h ago

It says so in The Bible. They have to spread the gospel:

Mark 16:15 (ESV) And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV) Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

1 Corinthians 9:16 (ESV) For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

1

u/PiccoloAwkward465 11h ago

My company's CEO loves shoving his pro-Christianity nonsense in his company-wide emails. You know the spiel, everything good we have is thanks to God. Fucking weird, your religion is between yourself and your God. And it's seriously in every single newsletter he sends out.

Yup just checked the last one I barely read, contains a Bible verse. I guess we do faith-based electrical work.

u/AlabamaHotcakes 11h ago

Matthew 6:5-8

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

1

u/Thin_Bother8217 10h ago

People like her used to stand on the sidewalk ringing a bell with a cardboard sign preaching about how “the end is near” and to “repent”. We used to walk by them and shake our heads. The internet has just given them a larger platform. Just need to zone them out like we did before

1

u/Tepeshe 8h ago

It's an evangelical Karen who probably isn't even spiritual, wants to film for clout from followers much like the Maga kingpin. Also she is an attention _ _ _ _ _

0

u/StealthModeThoughts 13h ago

The ones who need to be converted aren’t at church so they kinda have to do this kinda thing to spread the word 😭😩

2

u/BarnabyJones20 13h ago

No they don't

1

u/StealthModeThoughts 13h ago

Ok so how are they spreading the word to those who aren’t already converted by preaching at a church with people who aren’t already converted?

I assumed they’d WANT to go where the regular people are to get them to come to church?

1

u/BarnabyJones20 13h ago

They don't have to do anything for their imaginary friend

They should keep that shit to themselves

0

u/Aggravating_Code2188 13h ago

Rights only matter when they upset others. Freedom of speech you know the same right you jsut used to express your opinions. You used the same right as her yet then bitch about her doing it.. lol
