Mod Post The future of this sub NSFW

After this sub was "accidentally" banned 2 days ago there's been a lot of discussion about the future of the sub.

Whether it was an accident to not, the possibility exists that this sub and others will be banned from reddit in the near future. In the event that happens what do we do?

I started as a mod here when the sub had only 3k members and my intention was to grow it to where it is today, and more. I last wrote about how the sub is moderated in 2022.

In principle, it would be better to have an trans resource site independent of reddit and corporate control. In practice its very difficult to achieve for a number of reasons

There's no point in moving to another site like Discord which is susceptible to the same risks as reddit. i.e. based in the USA. But what other sites are there, and where else is safe in the long run? Not just safe from hostile governments, but whoever runs the community losing interest, or data (susans.org lost years of it with a hard drive crash), selling out, etc.

Neither Discord and Facebook are indexed by search engines making it difficult for people to discover the resources in the first place, or finding information once you're there. It's like a black hole for knowledge; you put it in and it disappears. Personally, I'd never waste my time on building this kind of community on sites like that.

Reddit also provides, or did, legal protection. If a surgeon doesn't like what's posted here they can't easily censor it. And especially important, they can't attack me personally as its not my responsibility. Good luck going after reddit corporate.

As one of the largest social media sites in the world reddit makes it easy to build community, there's so many of us already here. People have mentioned sites like Lemmy as alternatives, but as far as I can tell they have tiny membership and few people have even heard of them.

A major advantage for me was reddit's wiki's. Few subs take advantage of them, but I believe its a great way to build and spread knowledge, and it has helped build this sub and raise the general level of knowledge. People have asked that it be copied off site, but if this sub disappears many of the links in the wiki will also disappear. Its not nearly so useful at that point. I don't think anyone else will build or maintain a wiki either, as it seems to interest very few people.

Regardless if reddit banning this sub or not, I'd like to see another site even better than this one, but I'm not sure its possible. Even more so while reddit hosts trans content as 99% of people will just come here anyway. Reddit basically killed old style forums years ago and nothing's changed since then.

It's even more difficult to build a trans surgery surgery community on another site while this sub exists because its so big and useful that almost no one would bother going there. And I'm not shutting the sub down to force everyone to move to another site. That would cause immediate harm to people who use the sub.

If this sub does get shut down I personally won't be trying to rebuild elsewhere. I'm burned out with this and don't have the energy.

If anyone wants to discuss how to build a successful trans surgery community I'm willing to offer my advice. I'd like to see it happen and it would be great if people had a place to go, and knew about it ahead of time. My main aim is to help people, and it doesn't matter to me where that comes from.

Edit

If you set up any external resources for surgery, hrt, etc please add them in the comments here. And I suggest people save the links in case this sub, or worse, all trans content on reddit disappears.

There’s a number of people talking about off site projects they are considering or actually doing. Persons you could get together and discuss if you could work together.

This looks interesting r/RedditAlternatives

There's some cisgender people wanting to comment here in support of Lemmy and other reddit alternatives. Rule 5 limits cis people on this sub, but I'll allow it on this post only and give them a flair "cisgender reddit alternatives". If you're one of them please don't comment elsewhere.

Lemmy Discussion

Lemmy keeps getting mentioned. I don't know much about it yet. Its pitched as Fediverse reddit replacement.

According to the statistics here Lemmy has 477,049 total users and 45,194 monthly active users. The trans instance https://lemmy.blahaj.zone has 8671 total users and 971 monthly active users.

This sub alone has 93,419 members, and in the last 30 days 4.6M views, an average of 20.2k daily unique visits, 4.0 subscribed, and 1.2k unsubscribed. The main FTM surgery subs in total have about that again, and the HRT subs are a bit larger in total.

This sub is then 10 times the size of the main trans Lemmy instance, and the total with the subs I mentioned is approaching the entire size of Lemmy. This doesn't include all the very main trans subs which are individually many times larger as I only included the important medical subs.

I have a few reservations about Lemmy, partly because I know so little at this point

  • Can Lemmy can scale to the size required if trans content was banned on reddit.

  • I couldn't find much information on Lemmy's moderation tools. Currently this sub attracts a lot of hate and chasers, which moderation easily takes care of. In the past the have been excessive amounts, but reddit has cracked down on it, and provides tools to limit it (not very good ones). Lemmy would be unusable without this.

  • Lemmy works by sharing data across multiple instances (computers) and it appears there seem to be privacy concerns about the amount of data on users that is shared.

  • What is to stop the owners of the instance shutting it down, or the data being lost for any other reason? Although not a corporate it makes no difference. There would be a massive loss of knowledge and history.

If anyone has expert knowledge on Lemmy I'd be interested in learning more.

The author of the Engadget article on the sub's ban made a YouTube video on the Fediverse

3 Days post-op (revision) SRS NSFW

Hey :)

A week ago, I made a post with photos taken 6 months after my first surgery. As I had mentioned, I had my revision earlier this week. Feel free to share your thoughts - do you think it was worth it, and do you believe the outcome will be an improvement over the previous result? I’m actually feeling quite confident.

What was changed is that the labia majora were reduced slightly further in size, and some fatty tissue was removed, as they appeared quite thick - especially when standing or sitting. In addition, the incisions were extended a bit higher up to eliminate "dog ears" at the top of the outer labia. Furthermore, some skin was excised near the vaginal opening, where a small area had grown together "internally" - something that simply didn't look very good. Also, at my request, my raphe was removed.

Had my surgery yesterday (UPDATE) NSFW

I had my PI vaginoplasty yesterday at 1 PM, took about 5 and something hours. The surgeon said it was tricky to make the canal, as I had no fascia to guide himself… no idea. Other than that (and a little blood loss) he said there weren’t any complications.

Coming out of anesthesia was the hardest part, I felt nausea and I had a slight fever. I went anemic and had to receive a blood transfusion today, I feel a little more alive now lol.

On the other hand, I guess the anesthesia is wearing off and I am beginning to feel a little pressure in the surgical area..

My feet are still a little numb from the bandages, but slowly regaining sensation!

My mom is here making me company, honestly couldn’t do this without her. I can’t wait for the days to pass so I’ll feel less woozy. Being stuck in bed sucks.

Currently binge watching Friends, one of my comfort shows, on Netflix. I will be in the hospital till Sunday 18th (surgery was Wednesday Oct 14th)

The IV on my arm just came out so they’re gonna have to find another line🤕

How are some of these girls getting these bodies?? NSFW

Now I know genetics play a big role even in surgical outcomes, but like from the results I see here most results from body contouring surgery (even with ribs done) look extremely natural, like its a cute body but not extremely curvaceous. But then I go on X or on instagram and I see these trans women with tiny waists, big round hips and butts and it gets me wondering what are these women getting done that the rest of us arent? Is it a combining of amazing bone structure and surgery? Is it multiple rounds of body contouring?

I say this because I had a bbl a year ago and even though my body has changed and looks way different than what it was, I guess I just had different expectations from seeing all these bodies online pre op, and that got me thinking about how my body doesnt even cooperate even when I pay for it.

Alopecia after SRS NSFW

• Upvotes

Hi! I’m 33 y/o and I’ve got SRS done a couple of months ago.

I’ve suffered androgenetic alopecia from when I was 16 and I’ve been using Minoxidil 4 years now.
The surgeon asked me to stop using it 2 weeks before the surgery and I haven’t used it since then.

One week after the surgery I’ve got a lot of hair loss and thinning hair and I know that is pretty common after big surgeries.

Now I still have some hair loss (not as much as before but still consistent).
My question is a bit different because I was wondering if I could stop using Minoxidil (considering that now I’ cut off the testosterone supply) and the hair loss is just temporary and caused by the surgery or if I still have to use it to mantain the hair stronger.

Why does orchiectomy make the remaining genitalia smaller? NSFW

Hi everyone! I have been debating with my self a lot since I began transition (2.5 yrs) about having vaginoplasty, with or without canal etc. But due to resons explained before I can't take the time for the recovery that a canal requires right now. I was leaning towards zero depth but got dissuaded because if I want depth in the future I would have to go with ppt or colon plus I would have to pay two major surgeries.

Recently I'm dabbling into modeling, in the school they ask for tight black leggings for practice. So taking this into consideration I feel like an orchiectomy is the option to go right now, I think is gonna be easier to get it done in my country (may be my city) and be paid by my insurance, and recovery time can be done during sumer break.

But the thing that I don't understand is why does orchi makes your bit smaller? I already had no T, so I don't understand if my genitals are gonna get smaller overtime or is just an ilusion performed by the fact of not having the testies anymore.

Thanks to anyone who read all of this!

TLDR; Why orchi makes you genitalia smaller if T was already nuked with antiandrogens?

Need Advice. Would Love to Hear From You Girlies NSFW

Hi loves,

I am a 32 year old transgender woman and I have been on hormones for 3 years and 1 month.

I started dating recently and we are having a hard time even doing sex. Sex is not my decision maker, but I just think my overall experience and self acceptance would be better with the surgery.

I have yet to start laser but I need to if I want to do this. I did laser on my face and that hurt a lot, but after 15 sessions it’s gone.

I wanted to ask about your experience? Your decision making? Also about my biggest fear.. can you still climax?

If I knew you could still climax it would be a no brainer. I also want to know if there are any recommendations on a surgeon because I will not settle for less on something that is my body. I will try to get the best surgeon possible.

I hope you all are happy with the decision, and some advice and general information would be super helpful! ❤️☺️

Everything’s ok so far and walking is waaaaaaaay easier.

I’ve lost depth after SRS, going from 5.5 to 4 inches. After having sex once, I developed granulation tissue and bumps around the entrance. I’m overwhelmed and starting to regret surgery. Has anyone experienced this? Did you need revision or manage to improve your depth? NSFW

Stopping hrt for bottom surgery? NSFW

hello everyone for bottom surgery my surgeon asked me to stop taking hormones one month before the operation and little bit after the surgery I was kind of scared of doing that so I asked my endocrinologist what he thinks of this and he told me I should not stop taking my hormones because it’s an obsolete thing to do for bottom surgery
Now I don’t know what to do about this situation do I stop taking them before the operation or do I keep taking them?
Thank you for the answers😚

Sharp pulling pain during orgasm & dull groin/pubic ache (~5–6 months post-op) – Has anyone experienced this? NSFW

Hey everyone,
I am almost 6 months post-op (PI vaginoplasty with scrotal graft & extended urethral flap; had my orchiectomy back in 2022). Recently, I developed a very specific pain issue and wanted to ask if anyone here has experienced something similar and how you managed to resolve it.

The symptoms:
1. Sharp pain during orgasm: Exactly at the moment of orgasm, I get an intense, sharp pulling/stabbing pain on the right side (around the vestibule / pubic bone area) shooting straight up into my lower right abdomen. My first 2–3 orgasms post-op were completely fine and pain-free, but then this suddenly started and now happens every single time, making orgasm very unpleasant.

  1. Dull ache throughout the day: Even without any sexual arousal, I often feel a dull, dragging ache in that exact same spot deep in my right groin. It feels eerily identical to the pre-orchi visceral pain of getting hit in the testicle, radiating up into the groin/flank.

Surgical context:
The erectile tissue stumps (corpora cavernosa) were anchored to the pubic bone (pecten ossis pubis), and a surgical Blake drain exited through my right groin post-op (close to where the old spermatic cord stump from my 2022 orchi sits). My guess is either scar tissue tension/suture reaction at the bone anchor, nerve entrapment/irritation (like the ilioinguinal or genitofemoral nerve), or a hypertonic pelvic floor muscle spasm pulling on those structures.

My questions for you:
Has anyone experienced this kind of pain during orgasm or a dull testicular-like ache in the groin months after vaginoplasty?

What ended up being the actual cause for you (nerve irritation, scar tissue/deep sutures, pelvic floor tension)?
What helped you resolve or treat it (pelvic floor physical therapy, trigger point/nerve block injections, massage, or a minor surgical revision)?

Thank you so much for sharing any insights or experiences!

Got my breast done, and cant wait to go bigger. NSFW

A month ago i 545cc implants done. This was after having a DDD or so naturally. But becasue of being a big lady. They looked like B cups on me physically. That's why I seeked out surgery. I wanted to look more even.

Now I get it give it time blah blah, and I also understand they always can't put bigger in. I while I got 545 according to me card. Im looking at them like this is not what I wanted. I told her a I would be happy between 600-700cc.

I can all ready tell I won't be happy with these. I had no say in the size. I woke up with them, and have been pissed since, and since i used my states insurance. There is no redo's unless I pay. So, yea while im "giving them time." Im all ready Looking at other options. So, knowing thay I'll have to pay any way. I feel like I wasted my time.

Any experience with Cedars-Sinai Dr. Maurice Garcia & Dr. Yosef Nasseri for right-ascending colon? Specifically curious about aesthetics and how it compares to Dr. Stiller or Littleton. NSFW

I think I've decided I would like to pursue some sort of colon based procedure. Littleton and Stiller sound good but I can get it in network in California at Cedars-Sinai with Dr. Garcia or Dr. Nasseri. Anyone know about their aesthetics, wait times, and bedside manner?

Min Jun is also in network, but the wait times seem terrible and I think with adhd I don't have to worry as much about dilating long term with a colon based approach. Am I crazy for just not going with him? I have people I could stay with in the bay area, and I live in Lisbon which is why I was thinking about littleton. Celtik is also one I was considering as an alternative to Jun.

Is Starbucks still a viable path to FFS in red states? NSFW

Hi everyone! I am finishing up my undergrad degree and am taking a gap year before starting graduate school in 2028. I need FFS but I live in Arkansas which means the state explicitly excludes FFS from gender affirming care and the vast majority of insurances do the same.

Starbucks, notably, still mentions coverage for gender affirming surgeries often considered cosmetic by other providers. There was some kind of change in 2022 which worsened this coverage, but as I understand the company still works alongside insurance to provide access.

I wanted to see if anyone who knows how providers/gender affirming care works for starbucks in the red states could give me some advice on whether or not this is realistic. Thanks for any help!
