KOA Reforged 1.4.0 released

Post image
72 Upvotes

New in v1.4.0

  • Outfits for Transmog: the clothes worn by Amalur's nobles, merchants and peasants (Almain, Varani, Dokkalfar, Ljosalfar and Gravehold, 26 outfits with head, chest, legs, feet and most with gloves) as looks for any crafted armor piece of the same slot, whatever its armor class. Plus Bare hands to hide your gloves. -Beta, not every piece tested
  • Bigger stacks: potions (Fatesworn's included), arena snacks, nuggets, merchant trinkets and repair kits stack up to 99.
  • Both come from the new data pack (optional, in the all-in-one zip): a one-click installer that adds our items to your game's own data file with the official pak tools that ship with the game, keeps your original and can undo it. Read the "Data pack" section of the README first, especially before uninstalling.
  • SetSeeker: only good loot rolls for bonus set drops (rare 20%, unique-quality and bosses 50%); ordinary enemies and plain chests no longer do. -This is not the final update to finetune setseeker drops but a temporary bandaid, the way the module determines which enemies count as boss, etc will change totally in 1.4.5
  • EliteEnemies: rewards are gold 80% of the time, a unique 20%; named characters, bosses and quest enemies never become elites.
  • Transmog: outfit and transmogged pieces never stay in a junk list, whichever junk mod you use. This update has been made to keep it compatible with "autojunk whites" by Hussi, report any issue

About companions: The module is proving harder to finetune than anticipated, rebuilding the dropped companion system leftover is tricky and time consuming, but is coming, for details you can read the DevDiary in Patreon, and once again, is free would like more people to follow so i can give updates there.

Get it on Nexus

IM AWARE OF NEXUS FLAG , IT HAPPENS, GONNA BE FIXED SOON (I hope, it was the only time it happened to me before, already doing what I did that time )

Just trying out some things, don't get too excited.. yet.

edit: Well.. I have a perfectly fine working mount.

edit2: Should a mount be a combat pet and follow you around when unmounted? Or should it just disappear and appear like in most games?

edit3: a quick video of testing https://youtu.be/lKQ5fkdjbWA

Discussion Would you play a Kingdoms of Amalur MMORPG? What if we could turn Reckoning into a shared online world?

I've been thinking about a project that I think could be really interesting, and before investing time into it, I'd like to hear what the community thinks.

Kingdoms of Amalur has an amazing foundation for an MMORPG: beautiful fantasy world, action combat, tons of abilities, loot, crafting, factions, dungeons, and a lot of existing content.

Imagine being able to explore that world with other players, form parties, fight world bosses, run dungeons, trade equipment, join guilds, and progress through a persistent online world.

Rather than building an entirely new game from scratch, the idea would be to investigate whether the existing PC game could be extended through a community modding project.

I know this would be a technically challenging project. Multiplayer movement is one thing, but synchronizing combat, enemies, loot, quests, and persistent character progression is a completely different challenge. I'm not claiming any of this is already working.

For some context, I'm the developer behind a project that rebuilt World of Warcraft 1.12.1 to run directly in the browser. Here's that project:

https://www.reddit.com/r/wowservers/comments/1vsimnk/i_rebuilt_world_of_warcraft_1121_to_run_directly/

Before committing to this idea, I'd like to know:

  • Would you genuinely play this? Would you prefer co-op, a small persistent MMO world, or something closer to a full MMORPG?
  • What would make it worth playing? New dungeons, raids, world bosses, guilds, crafting, PvP, or something else?
  • Would you play the original game with multiplayer added, or would you want new content and progression systems?
  • Would anyone here be interested in helping with the technical side, especially reverse engineering, game modding, networking, or multiplayer development?

I'm trying to gauge genuine interest and understand what people would want before committing to a project of this scale.

If enough people are interested, the next step would be investigating the game's technical feasibility and putting together a small proof of concept.

Curious to hear your thoughts!

Screenshot Slowly getting to 100 millions! (Original Game)

After I sold all the items in the game to Nanne in Gorhart and reaching 60 mil, I realized I had still TONS of components and shards I never used, so I started crafting one by one the most valuable armors and weapons I could and also making all my shards pristine to sagecraft (this took a while...) and then the strongest and most valuable gem (magic+magic, magic+protection, phisical+magic). I sold everything to her again and this is the result.

With a little bit more of farming and resetting in Teeth of Naros, and selling everything i found many times (as I already did), I guess I could get legally to 100 million Gold!

AMALUR IS ALIVE!

May anyone help/guide me on how to mod this game for the life of me i cant figure it out.

For reference all im trying to install is the framework one and the f2 console one so i can fix a broken quest without reloading a save. (reloading the save would make me lose 8 hours)

i saw online i need to use a .exe folder but the only .exe i see is the koa.exe and whenever i click on that it opes the game.

i followed a guide on nexus by creating a new mod folder and put both mods in there but they arent working

Game Mod Increased Draw Distance mod coming very soon!

3x draw distance is currently running, presumably stably, at around 200-400fps on a 9600X and 3080ti, my other mod 3x enemy spawn multiplier is also on. So there is basically zero hit to performance on a modern gpu. It will obviously vary depending on your setup, but I'm fairly certain it's going to be completely playable even with a 1060, likely steam deck too but not necessarily 3x.

The draw distance on LODs, vegetation, grass, terrain LOD, NPCs, interactables, static world objects, pretty much EVERYTHING is configurable between 1.5x, 2x and 3x. There is no option to change them individually.

I've spent a few days tackling on a few repeatable crashing bugs and they're now hopefully solved,
I'm starting a fresh run tomorrow and play for a bit, if there's no new issues I'll release the mod.

It's honestly game changing to play so you don't practically see ANY lod pop in.

edit:

edit2:
Made increased shadow draw distance too, the vanilla low range was blatantly obvious with the general draw distance increase. I haven't shown it yet.

Reforged small update, companions coming very soon

Mostly a Polishing/bug fixing update of v1.3 wirh a couple small stuff , v1.4 will probably introduce the companion system first iteration, once you complete a faction quest you can recruit certain characters via dialogue, give commands, dismiss., screenshot added, get it on Nexus progress diary will be on Patreon

  • SetSeeker: fewer bonus drops (50 / 20 / 5 / 2% by loot quality, pity timer off by default); fixed a bug that could give the same piece twice; each loot is graded only by its own items; the menu double-tap no longer fails at random (keyboard and controller); drop statistics on the menu's first page.
  • Item cards: set pieces show your progress on their set, Item Scaling says what level an item is really raised to, and transmogged pieces say so.
  • CooldownTuner (new module): ability cooldowns a quarter shorter (adjustable), with before → after shown on the abilities screen.
  • PortraitSpin (new module): your character faces you in the inventory screen instead of looking off to the side, and you can turn it with the mouse wheel or by dragging.
  • EliteEnemies: the gold notice shows the gold you actually got (difficulty mods that scale gold also scale elite gold); no gold at all means a unique instead.
  • Controllers / Steam Deck: double-click the right stick to open the KOA Reforged menu.

Just as suggested in the comments, I sold all my items to the alchemist merchant in Gorhart and reached this amount of gold. it‘s crazy to think I started playing in 2012 and still making new achievements for myself in the game.

Thanks!

Strange QA Test area

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A very strange little town and area that has a questline that involves a blue almain, alcohol, and cookies! No idea if you can get here in the 2020 re-release.

To get to this area in the original 2012 PC-release, download the console mod, and use this script in the console ingame: lua PORTAL.fast_travel(GOR_ID('tmp_qa_effectsinterior_ent'))

Anyone have access to the original game files or a link where i can buy the original game?

I don't want the remastered version, i'd like the original 2012 version. The graphics are better for my purpose. I'd be happy to pay for the original, i just cannot find it anywhere.

Game Mod Increased Draw Distance TEASER

A quick video I took as I was testing.

It crashes after fast travel, still some work to do but atleast (hopefully) all the memory addresses are found!

Working: Grass and vegetation, NPCs, Dynamic meshes, LODs.

To do: Figure out the enemy "activation" distance so they don't just float around until you run near them and the stability issues.

Discussion Correct Fix for Sprinting bug on controllers

Hello, there is a bug for KoA:Reckoning that prevents the player from keeping the sprint while deviating by 10 - 15 degrees.
So you're allowed to sprint only on 1 of the 4 axes (Up, down, Left, Right).
If you sprint forward and then you want to slightly go left or right, the sprinting will stop.

While searching the web most people seems to have fixed the issue by turning on V-Sync or changing some video settings.
The real fix is by changing your deadzone shape.
The game only supports the Square deadzone shape which is pretty neat for games that have sticky movement such as KoA.

I've created a Layout on steam that fixes this issue without changing anything.
You have to activate Steam Input for this game (By default it doesn't have steam input on)

This is the URL: steam://controllerconfig/1041720/3815702655
Or search for "Zuppiera's Sprint Fix" in the controller layouts.

I hope this helps.
It should also work on Steam Deck.
I have an XBOX controller so let me know if it also fixes for Dualshock and DualSense controllers.

Koa reforged v1.3 Release

Its a small update but since i needed to publish a bugfix for setseeker thought it was worth it to add some flavor with stuff that was ready

  • ResistView (new module): the enemy you target shows its notable resistances and weaknesses under its health bar, for example "Resists Phys Pierce Poison - Weak Fire". (as in screenshot)
  • Backpacks: one backpack at each general merchant, never duplicated, until your inventory reaches 250 slots; then they disappear from every shop.
  • SetSeeker no longer hands out uniques instead of set pieces when your bags are full or your class is complete. (Bugfix)
  • EliteEnemies reforged (new module):  Based on EliteEnemies by HussiCheezo, included with permission. Rebalanced for CDO, about 5% of enemies become elites, tougher and with a trait (Frenzied, Warded, Ironhide, Regenerating or Vampiric), announced when they come near you, and they drop a unique or a purse of gold (50% chances). see Changelog for details on changes from original, they are a few

Also, added Photmode, Transmog and Reforge as optional modules like the rest, but they all need Setseeker.

Created a free patreon to use as devlog and choose priority tasks , already made a post on where im standing with the companions feature, donations are welcome not needed for anything, nothing will ever be paywalled https://www.patreon.com/cw/hiperrealmods .

I will continue to post updates here when updates are worth it.

Game Mod Making a KoA overhaul, v1.2 available

Hi, I'm working in an overhaul of koarr , started with common desires since the announce of the remaster, transmog in gane, set collection and availability, re order of the stash and more , Version 1 3 is coming.

I'm working on a huge bug fixing update .

Companion system.

New textures , sets , and more.

I'd appreciate if people give it a go and track it, updates are coming fairly fast and my understanding not only if Lua but game files , hashes etc is ever growing.

Current and future versions available in nexus, read description and changelog

https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomsofamalurrereckoning/mods/89

Please make suggestions and help with the game bugs list , there's no really comprehensive list afaik.

Question What is the point of the remaster?

I feel like there are so many stuff they could have fixed with this remaster in terms of NPC AI, loot that cannot be removed like lerkaras journal etc and other bugs that were in the first game, its still super outdated according to me. I used to love it when it was a product of the old times and i could forgive it , but replaying with the remaster make me kinda hate the game now seeing that things were not really improved to meet today's standards.

And i have one big graphics problem i need your help with. At first i noticed that the beams of the houses and the doors would blink and turn black. then it was also the shadows on the cliffs or any heavy shaded area. sometimes even the branches of trees and the stone paths would disappear completely. and on rare occasion it affects the character . the game is playable but very very distracting. I didnt notice so much of a graphics update and there was no warning from the game so could it be the graphic card im using? I have checked it for integrity and steam says it all good.

Have to say, taking the worst part of Oblivion and putting into a old game is surelly a decision

First of all, I love KoA, I sure wish we have a sequel eventually. But what they were thinking about when they made Fatesword, like sure you can skip most of the portals, but doing that caps you on sweet numbers going up. If KOA combat wasn't good I would drop this DLC almost immediately.

Game Mod I MANAGED TO INCREASE GRASS DRAW DISTANCE, NEXT UP - LODS AND ENEMIES!

Thumbnail
gallery
179 Upvotes

Before and after.

The distance is tripled and seems stable. Increasing it further brings issues with the grass grids and draw capacity and I'm currently looking for ways to increase those too so we could have truly modern draw distances eventually. I've already found a few promising leads for LODs, and with the concentrated hunt for LOD distance, I'm sure I'll find the other draw distances too.

And yes, obviously I'm using AI for the reverse engineering. This kind of work wouldn't have been feasible before and only available to handful of people who know how to poke and hunt bytes and paths from memory. And no, it's not just "AI gib me mod".

The modification itself is just a simple byte change, quick and easy.

Edit: Slight update since posting a 20 minutes ago, the grid increase test WORKS. The grass distance is so far you don't see it being generated. Remains to be seen if it's stable or not, but so far so good.

Double edit: This has been over a week in the making alongside a few other mods, just now hit a proper breakthrough which might speed up the other work too.

Triple edit:
I've got LOD distance doubled now. Running some tests. Currently it's basically so far that you only occasionally see pop in if the zone is very large and unobstructed.

Game Mod 700 Enemies on screen without graphical issues or crashes! Mod update!

Thumbnail
gallery
58 Upvotes

My other project I've been working on, an enemy spawn rate multiplier!

I was stuck on a glitch that started skipping animations around 250 enemies and crashed if you reload a save from that. But that is fixed now. The game crashes before you reach the new limit of roughly 750. I'm still looking a little bit into it but considering a 3080ti is around 30fps at that point, I think it's a fairly ok limit to have.

No idea what a safe modifier for a playthrough is, but the little I played BEFORE fixing the cap was around 3x, so I'd say even 10x could be playable now if you so wish.

Also included:
XP multiplier to counter the amount of enemies for a real playthrough
Modification to enemy behaviour so the extra enemies don't just dance around you (some idling still included)

No / Increased durability patch coming soon to counter the weapon usage.

I'm starting a playthrough after I finish the Increased Draw Distance mod and this, so I won't be doing any QA before that and rely purely on your, the community's feedback on bugs that aren't immediately obvious.
