Discussion Alternate PvE Proposal: Temporary Ceasefire map condition (see caption for details and reasoning)

Post image

THE IDEA

Create a Temporary Ceasefire major map condition. Put it in the rotation with other major map events. Keep the loot super limited: no items beyond blue (rare) quality. Increase the arc presence. You can do your quests and hunt arc, but you can't gain a big power advantage.

THE REASONING

Why this, instead of an always-available PvE mode? Low-risk raiding should be a reprieve; a small treat. Not the standard.

If you remove most of the risk, you remove most of the reward. The danger is the whole point in a game like this.

Without danger, we lose lose the serendipity. You don't need to make friends or find out who people are and what they're up to. You don't have the little moments like accidentally shooting someone and then trying to make it up to them. Or the dilemma of deciding whether to defib a stranger who could be an adversary.

PvE also removes a lot of hard and soft gaming skills. I don't have to mind my aim in order to stay friendly. I don't have to say "Hey I'm friendly, what's up dude." There's no more flashlight friend-or-foe indicator. The sound of a powerful weapon no longer gets my hackles up. I don't need to listen for footsteps.

Lastly, open PvE could wreck the economy. You shouldn't be able to free-farm materials.

Adaptive matchmaking works. If you've earned your way deep into the friendly ranks, you can play all evening without getting shot at. This should suffice for most dads and uncles. But the risk is always there in the back of your mind.

And for those that need a boost now and then, we have a rotating Temporary Ceasefire map condition.

I agree. While I do think a PVE mode can exist in Arc Raiders, it needs to be limited or the core experience will suffer by becoming too binary (pure PVE or pure PVP). The lawless wasteland where there are no set rules and anyone can be a friend or foe makes this game great. If you take that away then it's just another run-of-the-mill, predictable shooter experience (and I personally did not fall in love with this game because it was just like all the other games out there).

I also think Embark would do well to test the chinese version defector mode to find a good middle ground. It sounds like it would enhance the core experience while ultimately catering more to PVE players.

The lawless wasteland where there are no set rules and anyone can be a friend or foe makes this game great

They literally removed that from the game like three weeks after launch when they silently introduced the aggression-based matchmaking, which they only came clean on a couple weeks later.

Remove aggression-based matchmaking instead of adding a PvE mode. But that ship has sailed, the game is way too deep with the stupid concept of aggression-based matchmaking already, the entire community doesn't even remember at this point how fun this game was in the first few weeks before aggression dictated who you match with.

There's no surprise left when you know for a fact that you're in a carebear lobby because you've been a good boy for a few days - only pure unadulterated frustration when once in a blue moon someone is aggro in a carebear lobby. And vice versa, if you play PvP you know for a fact 95% of people you meet are the same so there's ZERO NUANCE.

The game was infinitely better in the first few weeks just off of the matchmaking alone.

6

u/Corsavis 5h ago

I just got the game yesterday and yeah, I havent experienced that nuance. Either people shoot on sight in PvPvE or I can play PvE and not have to worry about it

Definitely seems counterintuitive to the entire point of the game

15

u/TartanZergling 5h ago

I think in a game with nearly infinite resources and very little 'gear scaling' the devs presumed people could take an L every now and then.

It's not surprising to me a vocal minority COULD NOT LOSE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES (people are very used to being spoonfed slop), what is surprising is that this subreddit became the rallying point for the 'no challenge' gang.

4

u/heartbroken_nerd 5h ago

Again, the aggression based matchmaking is to blame, at least that's my belief based on what I've observed.

Economy of the game was always a mess but there was this persistent tension mid-match. Not a "everyone wants to kill me" snoozefest, I'm talking real decision making. You yourself could've been bipolar if you wanted - one match kill on sight and another be the most helpful Santa Clause who drops items for strangers as a gift. Any given player could be bipolar if they wanted to be every match. Within a single game you could've been the friendliest raider to five people and the worst nightmare of two different people if you wanted to, and there was no need to consider your "Aggression Score" or plan ahead. Arc Raiders back then was truly FUN.

When Arc Raiders started rigging the matchmaking based on players' past behavior it completely altered how people - the community - engaged with the game. Slowly, over time it changed.

The game was REALLY fun in the first few weeks before aggression based matchmaking and was still fun after; but the slow erosion as more and more people 'catch on' to the concept of carebear lobbies or shoot on sight lobbies made everything binary and boring.

In the first few weeks when the game just launched, I absolutely did have lobbies where people shot me on sight. I also absolutely did have lobbies that one could describe as 'carebear'. But guess what? I didn't know what's going to happen. So the game was dynamic, it was frustrating in a good way, you always tried to make friends but had to always be careful. Sometimes after a simple "Don't Shoot" you grouped up with some folks and went to do some PvE, sometimes you had to watch your back because at any moment anyone could hurt you and take your stuff. But you never knew what's going to happen in the next 5 minutes, not for a fact at least. Maybe after meeting 5 friendly raiders you'll see a flare go off behind you where you just were; do you go back and play a Sheriff, or do you ignore it and keep going away from sure danger? Etc.

Nowadays it's just: did you earn enough "good boy" points? Into carebear lobby you go. Did you shoot some people recently? Into PvP lobby you go. Boring and predictable.

There should also be similar mode(s) that encourage PVP. I've always thought thats all that was really needed, to satisfy pvers and PvPers more. Give the PVPers a place to get their rocks off without (in SOME cases) having to essentially grief PVE players. The actual griefers are always gonna grief. But there should be map conditions that are clearly about teams fighting over an objective. Maybe map conditions/modes that are ACTUALLY team based and not 3v3v3v3v3v3v3v3v3v3. How fun would 10v10 capture the flag be in arc raiders? Come on. And now they've shown with PVE mode that they can code the no team damage aspect that would be needed for modes/conditions like that.

This would also essentially serve as an endgame for many players. Embark could make easy content around "clans" that results in players generating their own content through rivalries and competition and crap.

Stella, especially stella night raid, being an unofficial pvp map is similar. But way too limited. I'd love to see stats on player kills by map/mode - if stella and stella night didn't exist, pve players would've been whining/quitting all along alot more imo. Add some more pvp focused content and it'd get even better without having to undercut a core tenet of the game.

Much better concept in my opinion. Less drastic and has a pinch of story to back it.

40

u/IrrelevantTale 8h ago

Yes plus it can keep it off certain map conditions where PvE breaks it.

245

u/ColossalDeskEngine 9h ago

I think it depends on how frequently it rotates. This could screw busy people out of playing it like many other map conditions

85

u/MrPurple998 9h ago

Yeah, this is like the only downside, embark is terrible when it comes to map conditions.

This one feels like it should alternate every 30 mins

64

u/Natalia_Queen_o_Lean 8h ago

Surely it wouldn’t be that difficult to just have one map always be ceasfire and it rotates continuously.

It’s not like all maps always have a condition anyway, currently it’s only 70% of the maps at any time. Just add 1 more in the rotation bag with ceasefire.

27

u/External-Fun-8563 7h ago

Thats what I thought they were saying. Basically if you log on and want to do pve only you have to go with the current ceasefire map. Not a big deal.Ā

12

u/Owobowos-Mowbius 8h ago

I think it should be a permanent mode but only on one map at a time.

2

Until the duping is truly fixed with a silver bullet any talk about the Arc Raiders player economy is completely tone deaf.

16

u/Diligent_Exchange314 9h ago

Yeah i see people with a full inventory of the gold mri ducks and other shit that obviously was duped. Makes rare stuff not feel rare whatsoever

8

u/Kindle282 3h ago

Was the moment I rolled my eyes the hardest at this post. Friendly lobbies are already free farm central. I have probably survived 100+ raids back to back in deep friendly queue. If the "loot economy" wasn't already wrecked by how good the aggressive/friendly matchmaking works, it ain't gonna get wrecked by a PVE toggle with less high quality loot.

I kinda like the way the Division handled their PvPvE zone, in that if someone ends up engaging in PvP there is an announcement to the server that someone has gone rogue. Balance the incentive to go rogue (winning other players’ loot, gaining xp, finishing quests designed for PvP, etc) with the risk of being televised to the server that you’re not to be trusted. Might push the game more PvE, but with the threat of PvP always looming.

11

u/ronsterman 7h ago

I think this is the PvE system the Chinese version of Arc Raider uses.

3

u/Stalwart_Vanguard 6h ago

Yup, and it's cool

2

u/RegisterFit1252 45m ago

The Chinese version is so perfect. Embark needs to just implement it, now

5

u/Swimming_Lake_5036 7h ago

They could create a ranking list of the raiders most wanted for murder. These raiders would appear in red on the map whenever they enter your game session, and a notification—a sort of "Raider Alert"—would be sent to everyone, warning them that a potentially dangerous raider is in the area. This would let other raiders know that these individuals are nearby, prompting them to either hunt them down or perhaps team up with them. It would definitely dial up the adrenaline for everyone involved—both the hunter and the hunted. Also, at the end of each session, when you review the list of raiders you encountered, you could give a "positive vote" to anyone who helped you or treated you well; this would earn them points for being a "good-natured" raider or a great teammate. I don’t know—I’ve got plenty of ideas like this!

7

u/JazeyOne 6h ago

The Chinese version has a pve option with ā€œrogueā€

A player can choose to go rogue at a certain point in the raid which will give an alarm(? I think) and gives the player a red light on their backpack above their head. This player can down any other raider but also can be downed by other raiders.

u/Ryhsuo 5h ago

2

Copy it for the pve map condition, not for the entire game.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/Redebo 8h ago

My bet is that they have this mapped out based on what the numbers come back from the trial period.

I guarantee they have at least two options, likely more, based on the overall numbers of PvE players clicking that button.

4

u/Samwellikki 9h ago

This implies that leadership would have any sort of cohesion and just work toward PvE only anyway ā€œfor the greater good,ā€ and embark would have to research what leadership is.. so it’s a no either way

20

u/tayjjj 9h ago

I like this idea!

11

u/isItTakenAsWell 8h ago

If Speranza leadership had the power to enforce this, they would do it 100% of the time, so this temporary condition makes no sense.

From an in-universe perspective, any unprovoked raider-on-raider violence is bad. Self defense would probably be acceptable, but the Arc is an existential threat to what remains of humanity, and the human leadership is just trying to acquire enough resources to survive and maybe have a proper defense against Arc. Yes, there would still be selfish people willing to kill someone and take what they have, and the game already acknowledges that there's some kind of black market. But killing a fellow human when most of them are just trying to scrape by would certainly be frowned upon.

Given how much Embark cares about the lore for Arc raiders and is trying to develop it, a better implementation would be something that technically allows PvP but with some kind of "thematic discouragement". Maybe after doing X amount of damage to players in a raid, everyone gets a broadcast like "Attention raiders, we're getting reports of criminal raider activity in the northeast", and the more damage you do or more raiders you kill, the warnings narrow down on your position making you a target for others. Maybe you have to sell the loot you bring back at a discounted black market vendor because you acquired it through illegal means. I'm sure there are more examples.

u/Savage_Tyranis 6h ago

Wasn't the lore reasoning for PvP being that they have little control of what happens topside? That and even in the face of the apocalypse humanity will still be ready to fuck each other over

I’ve been saying that there should be a PvE map condition in rotation for months. Need to get materials or handle a trial? Give it a go at whatever the PvE map is in rotation. But also, my trios are always pure PvP and I like that but it would be nice to have a PvE trio option for map conditions that seem to be made with cooperation in mind like the Frigate, or anything with like a PvE boss, and maybe even some of the Close Scrutinies could be PvE.

46

u/EarthZebra 9h ago

I understand the idea but this just feels like it’s geared to only appease and placate people who participate in PvP instead of something actually fun for PvE players. Which is not the goal of a PvE mode they are obviously trying to capture a new audience because of how poorly the game has performed post launch.

30

u/thesaddestpanda 8h ago

Watching this sub lose it over a temporary pve option is becoming depressing. People just will fight it for misguided reasons. Its just a video game. Let people have fun.

14

u/marcio0 7h ago

Let people have fun.

they will, as long as you have fun on their way

4

u/jesusonice 7h ago

This sub has been shit from like week 1. First few days were hunky dory. Now it's just constant bitching. I'd leave but this sub is how I found out the pve mode is been wanting is actually here

12

u/F4NT4SYF00TB4LLF4N 9h ago

My take is that PVP isn't the reason the game has performed poorly since launch there are many other reasons unrelated to PVP

9

u/LetMeBeGay 8h ago

It’s 100% a lack of content. Or, maybe 95%. But still. we saw a massive spike of players with the new content drop. That’s what everyone was anticipating. I don’t even think many people knew about the PvE trial.

I think if they keep putting out stellar content like this, the player base will remain healthy. And it never really became ā€œunhealthyā€ anyway.

6

u/KidswasteALT 7h ago

Was it? Based on what? Because the tweet announcing the PvE toggle has nearly twice as many likes as the Frozen Trials announcement, and that pattern holds. That clearly shows more are anticipating a PvE-only mode. I’ll be very interested to see the numbers if/when they show them because I think a lot of people underestimate just how many solely PvE players there are.

Pretty much lack of support and content. People get bored. I did 2 or 3 (I forget) expeditions, I think I'm on my 3rd "character" and lost all motivation to play. Nothing to do. I'd amass a massive vault of millions and nothing to do. I wanted new maps, new modes, new weapons, new experiences... And also to fix cheaters. Then Embark came out and said they were putting out content too fast and were going to slow down. That's when they lost me.

64

u/travhimself 9h ago

Respectfully, I don't think that solves the problem. An always-on PvE mode floods the economy with freely obtained items and gear.

23

u/jeffchicken 8h ago

I don't understand how this is hurting you and others that feel this way though, there isn't an economy to flood. There are no auction houses or markets of any kind. The only thing it could possibly move a little faster with are the expedition material requirements, and the counterpoint to that is PVE is reduced loot value so it will still take longer to get that same amount than running pvpve.

It's 2 days into a beta of a mode that they don't even know if they're going to keep or not, give them a little time to play around with it. The first generation of any idea is never the best one.

No pve mode = pve player gets killed by rat and rat grabs loot to sell.

pve mode = pve player does not get killed and extracts selling their loot.

where does this extra loot come from? how can another gamemode actually flood a market?

14

u/Destithen 8h ago

where does this extra loot come from? how can another gamemode actually flood a market?

Lol, they can't answer this. This sub has a massive critical thinking problem. They're very firm in these beliefs, but struggle to articulate in any logical way why they think the way they do. It's "unfair"...even though they would have access to PvE lobbies at any time they wanted too. It would "flood the economy" despite the fact that there is no economy in the first place and nothing fundamentally changes from a carebear lobby to a PvE one in terms of people getting "free loot".

...and honestly, everyone being flush with cool gear sounds like it would just make PvP moments more exciting and dynamic to me. Maybe people will be encouraged to risk their cool shit when losing them is a softer blow and more easily recovered.

→ More replies (1)

20

u/Dvldog0352 9h ago

I understand the concern, but what economy is supposedly being flooded?

There isn’t a traditional player-driven marketplace where everyone is buying and selling gear. Players are already accumulating blueprints, weapons, and resources at vastly different rates depending on how much time they play.

And PvE doesn’t mean free loot.

You’re still fighting ARC, using ammunition, risking equipment, and spending time gathering resources. The only thing being removed is the threat of another player killing you.

If someone wants to use PvE to gear up for PvP, that’s their choice. Plenty of casual players have absolutely no intention of touching PvPvE again. I don’t see why their preferred way of enjoying the game needs to be restricted because of how someone else might choose to play.

9

u/jakethejewler22 9h ago

That care bare lobbies dont already offer? I like pve for duos and trios because its near impossible to just quest with my boys in trios its always a sweat fest.

10

u/DayDreamer2121 9h ago

It's impossible to do anything other than pvp in trios, you shoot a tick and half the server comes to hunt you down.

10

u/Dvldog0352 9h ago

As if carebear lobbies are full proof from another player killing you and stealing your loot.

PvE is full proof.

There isn’t a 100% guarantee you won’t run into aggressive players in carebear lobbies. There is a 100% guarantee you won’t get shot in the back by another player in PvE mode.

Nobody is out here selling gear. There is no economy. Pve players can get good gear then play pvp... who literally cares, if you pvp you should be better then the pve people and then once you kill them atleast you get more then a free kit. All this crying, go play something else or keep playing the mode thats been in the game and hasnt changed. Everyone crying and bitching about something thats added that they literally dont have to interact with, grow tf up and move on.

3

u/MasterAyy 9h ago

I remember there used to be lots of complaints from PVP players about having to fight free kit players since those players had no loot for them to obtain. Streamers would kill someone and then see they were a free kit and complain that they had nothing on them to loot and had no "goop". But now the complaint is that the opponents will have too much loot on them?

3

u/Ximena-WD 8h ago

Floods economy while duping has been a serious issue. I think the "economy" could never recover unless we have mandatory wipes.

16

u/Aaddaammnn 9h ago

This is literally an invented problem in your head, the mode has been out for a day. There’s no evidence to suggest this.

Embark said the test reduces the loot value in PvE, and personally I have noticed the difference.

I've also seen people claim that they are pulling all yellow drops in PvE, which I don't believe BUT who knows, maybe Embark is testing different levels on different servers to get more data. This is a test, after all.

As a supporter of a PvE-only mode, I think it needs to have a reduction in loot values. I would go so far as to say non-cosmetic loot (e.g., stencils) doesn't drop in PvE. And, I don't know, maybe even blueprints? Or yellow items?

In any event, Embark says they are looking at all of the data, and that's what you want something like this to be: data-driven. Not feelings-driven. Not PvE or PvP driven. Cold, hard data driven.

2

u/travhimself 9h ago

I agree with your position, overall. I'm also curious to see what numbers they share with us.

I did one Matriarch run, and the legs were not dropping cores. So that's good.

2

u/FreshmeatOW 6h ago

There's not reduced loot. I come out with more loot because there's 0 risk in PvE mode. Arc are easy to deal with when you don't have to consider enemy players. Resources spent against arc normally have to be carefully considered due to ther presence of enemy players, but no longer. Now your second weapon can be a hullcracker easily.

People will always choose the path of least resistance. I'm sure you understand what that means if you actually have critical thinking and are an unselfish person who understand how delicate this games economy and ecosystem is.

No, I like the current way - I played it some last night and it was AMAZING!! So peaceful!

Im fine with this, however i would like a little more "story" on how this ceasefire would be enforced. Like maybe Shani has some kind of expanded visibility like a hacked satellite or something that allows the security team to enforce this.

7

Modified snitch scanner’s that will rain hell upon anyone shot by another raider?

9

u/Vector_Mortis 9h ago

What if I want to play PvE when I want to? Theres some map conditions I genuinely see once a week because I have a full time job.

I just have the genuine question of - why are people so against a PvE Toggle? It'd bring some people back and probably some new people to it

→ More replies (13)

13

u/Kill_Kayt 8h ago

This is a much better idea.

I haven't played since the PvE toggle was added so I dunno how it is. Most of the fun comes from not knowing how any one Raider interaction is going to go. With this option I worry that all the possible friendly people are using it and that results in those who don't becoming a short on sight situation like Tarkov. I don't want guaranteed pvp. I want the threat of pvp.

4

u/LifeOfHi 7h ago

I’ve been in regular carebear pvpve lobbies since they released the PvE toggle and nothing seems changed in the carebear lobbies. Still friendly with a tiny bit of threat.

I think this post is getting a lot of unnecessary hate and being overly criticised. I think it's a better idea than the current test.

16

u/Red_Wizard_of_Redit 7h ago

I think the current system works well enough. If you want high end stuff from map conditions like night raids or hurricane the you have to be PvPvE.

The toggle lets people choose how they want to play and has no impact on others.

9

u/Alarmed-Lock7774 6h ago

Bull****. I hate PvE only and I jumped into a few games today and I got sh ton of loot. Didn’t even use any keys or anything and every raid I came out with 150k+. It’s pointless. Just go back to the roots. Remove ABMM, remove PvE and introduce this instead for all the PvE players.

What made this game fascinating in the beginning was the tension, the adrenaline, the fact that when you saw someone you didn’t know if they were friendly or not, the interactions etc. Now it’s either this or that. This is coming from someone who spent 1200 hours in this game

5

u/Void-kun 6h ago

Okay buddy but not everybody shares your opinion.

Not everybody finds the exact same things fun that you do, it's subjective.

If you hate PVE only, then don't play it. Simple.

7

u/Macro_Hard_On_Fire 6h ago

Then those people shouldn't be buying PvPvE-games: it's part of the DNA of these games.

There are enough other coop games that you can play instead, instead of whining to get this game ruined and catering to your own needs.

2

u/Desperate-Grab9869 2h ago

Ya, and now they added a PVE mode, temporarily at least.

People went to play something else. A player not playing Arc Raiders is a player who will never spend money on Arc Raiders. Embark didn't like that. So they're trying something to bring new players in and old players back.

The game was advertised as PVPVE. It still has PVPVE. Now it also has PVE. Not because redditors complained so hard it molded the game's code, but because Embark decided to. Do you want the players who joined the game now advertising a PVE mode (temporarily) to quit because they don't want to play the mode you originally bought thr game for?

I think this is the way to go. They just need to make sure it is always in rotation on at least one map, so people who only want to PvE have that option if they're ok with playing the map that has the condition at that time.

Should probably also make sure to shuffle at what time which map has the PvE event to make sure people who only have a few hours in the evening get to enjoy all maps.

8

u/kaic_87 9h ago

I like this idea, as long as it's used on ALL maps and ALL modes randomly. Like night raids cease fire, or frigate, or whatever.

10

u/Asoxus 8h ago

I disagree. Some modes SHOULD carry a higher raider risk - like frigate.

this looks like a way better thought out idea than most of the shitshow this subreddit has seen the past 2 days

8

u/leanthus 8h ago

I found the idea interesting; there was an event early on called "Shared Vigil" where players who didn't engage in PvP earned a bonus. I have a counter-proposal: make PvP more punitive. Let's look at it from a lore perspective. You have the ARC threat and the Raider threat. Some players focus purely on the competitive and aggressive side of the game. That’s fine, but the problem arises when they start harassing players who want to focus on the PvE aspects. I’m tired of dying in senseless ambushes or getting shot in the back—even when I clearly posed no threat, I’d just get slaughtered. Some players have learned to game the matchmaking system and LOVE entering PvE lobbies to do this. My idea would be to implement some form of punishment, like higher shop prices, or—expanding on that—a reputation system. The higher your threat level, the more suspicious NPCs become. You might get a radio alert at the start of the match: "Watch out, a dangerous individual has been spotted nearby"—you get the idea. There are possibilities. Another option would be a PURE PvP mode. You’d enter that mode knowing everyone there is a tough customer. That way, players who enjoy the purely competitive and aggressive side would be satisfied, while PvE players would have a lobby with higher risks but better chances for top-tier loot. Anyway... that’s my idea.

u/Impressive_Pin8761 7h ago

As an Elden Ring/DS3 invader I'm no stranger to forced PvP. Bought this game at launch and played for several weeks before I got tired of the shitty behavior I was constantly running into from one match to the next.

It's one thing to be forced to PvP when the only thing you're really at risk of losing is the in-game currency that you have an opportunity to run back and grab without needing to fight other players on the way back.

It's a completely different situation when literally everything on your person is at risk of being lost the moment you set foot onto the map. Couple that with peoples' capacity to act like assholes in a game that was originally created to be PvE with PvP shoehorned in after the fact and you're not going to have a successful game long term.

Giving players the option to choose was the right call. I hope this game mode stays. If it does I would certainly come back. May have to try it out again this weekend.

8

u/Kouropalates 7h ago

Agreed. Im actually invested in playing thanks to the new PvE mode.

2

u/Golden_Cultivation 6h ago

Yeah this is always weird in games unless done properly. For example, I really loved Mortal Onlines full loot system. There was no in game map, you just went by landmarks and had to hear word from mouth or from experience when to try to make your way to the next town. PvP guilds would harrier you when you got far from town, but the experience was really great overall.

3

u/heavysixer77 2h ago

ā€œPvP shoehorned in after the factā€ is a completely inaccurate representation of Arc Raiders development. They found PvE only was missing something and the switched gears to the current formula, years before release. This game as we know it was never PvE with PVP slapped on it, it’s always been PvPvE.

2

u/ColinMilk 7h ago

I’ll keep screaming this from the rooftops. Implement a seasonal raid. A raid for each new season that’s a puzzle/fight like destiny raids used to have. Have a minimum load oat requirement to queue into teams. This allows all sides of the player base to build towards something other than PvP. High risk, high reward, but all based on defeating Arc and puzzles. The games mechanics are so well built for navigating a raid style course with a final boss fight. Make it 3 or even 6 people teams.

2

u/Professional-Call-91 6h ago

2

u/BNASTIEMM 5h ago

I dont understand this big call for a PvE mode with abmm. I'm a friendly player prob damn close to that end of the spectrum. I get killed by other raiders very rarely. When it does happen, oh well. Kits don't cost that much to build.

4

u/Obrusnine 7h ago

I feel like the bigger issue with PVE is not even noted here in your post: it will make non-PVE lobbies more hostile. I rarely have PVP encounters in regular lobbies, if PVE siphons all of the friendly players into a separate mode, lobbies where PVP is enabled will almost immediately devolve into shoot on sight. This game will lose the very thing that makes it special, the spontaneous acts of cooperation and kindness which are only meaningful because we as a community police bad behavior in our games. What exactly separates ARC from other games if it just ends up being another game where you can turn your mic off and mind your own business while gathering materials?

3

u/SalamChetori 9h ago

Chinese version lore says something about communications being up and running so they know who’s a threat, that’s why the pvp is off

3

u/Lopsided-Advice3919 9h ago

ā€œWe have made murder illegal so you can’t do thatā€ the whole point is that topside is lawless, a ceasefire declared by leadership doesn’t really make any sense.Ā

3

u/darkCrescent13 9h ago

I pitched this idea to my friend group after hearing their issues with PvP but how much they want to keep playing. I think it could work really well as long as it's a pretty frequent map condition

3

u/Failing_at_death 9h ago

DayZ does this on modded servers, PvE zones for trading, PvP everywhere else.

2

u/VisceralComa 9h ago

Alternate idea. Make this a rotating sub-condition to existing maps and map events and conditions. Like things are truly dire in Speranza in terms of supplies and they need as many raiders to come back with loot as possible. So ceasefire (pve) is in place. But no change in loot tables or arc danger or anything. Just that the story is they really need every raider to come back.

And to add in, have there be another sub condition. Where Arc presence is significantly reduced (due to an arc frigate event just having passed that collected a lot of arc for repairs and maintenance, or matriarch or harvester event just ended) which would increase raider on raider fighting as there is less arc to fight.

That way we have two sub-conditions. One that is pve. And one that is clearly encouraging a more pvp mindset. While also keeping the normal conditions and maps still pvpve centered.

1

u/dowwild 8h ago

This is genius

5

u/No_Owl_4206 8h ago

It's not a bad idea but no loot beyond blue is crazy. You rarely get epic loot anyway. And considering it would be on rotation it wouldn't be up all the time, but a lot of chill players could hunt arc, do quests, research and challenges.

They should make a PVE mode a map condition event. It will change maps every 2 hours plus which ever map condition is currently in rotation.

u/aiwdj829 8h ago

13

u/MochaMothling 6h ago

so your basically saying some peoples enjoyment of the game should be limited to a map condition that happens once in a while instead of giving everyone the option to participate in PvE if they feel the PvPvE gamemode is too challenging or takes enjoyment out of the game. No one is forcing you to play the PvE mode, its a toggle for a reason

15

u/Babefly1 5h ago

nobody forced these people to buy a PvPvE game.
their enjoyment being "limited" is their own doing, there are hundreds of PvE games out there, go and play them

"Ā No one is forcing you to play the PvE mode, its a toggle for a reason"
ignoring the impact on the game a PvE mode has.

it being optional does not mean that it doesnt affect anything else

4

u/Emmanuell89 5h ago

Exactly, it's against the fabric and heart of of the game, and ABMM solves this for 98% if games depending how you swing it within 7-10 games or so

counterpoint: having rotating PVE zones would likely fragment the playerbase less. My main worry about having PVE and PVPVE toggles alongside solo duo and triple trio queue priority is as the popularity of the game wanes between updates it could be very difficult to find lobbies.

I just don't see the need for the compromise. There isn't a player econmy because there is no marketplace. Since there's no player driven marketplace, we don't need to worry an 'economy'. People's progress is solely determinded by their time invested.

If a pve lobby incetivises players who wouldn't normally put in progress, to play the game, literally everyone wins.

If a certain sector of the commited playbase, exploit a dangerless gamemode to blaze through progress, instead of playing the regular pvpve mode, that's literally the PLAYER'S choice choosing to rob themselves of the expearience -they- want.

4

You can turn rogue and get a red light antenna above your character, being rogue lets you shoot other raiders but you also become easy to notice.

It takes a while to turn rogue (like 3x times the speed of a shield recharger) and afaik you cant turn back.

3

u/Smasher1598 8h ago

I agree with this. I do not think a PvE only mode is the answer but map conditions like this are good calls that don’t disrupt the entire experience. I think some other things could be done like a bounty or reputation system, or just follow in the Chinese versions footsteps
