Discussion Alternate PvE Proposal: Temporary Ceasefire map condition (see caption for details and reasoning)

Post image

THE IDEA

Create a Temporary Ceasefire major map condition. Put it in the rotation with other major map events. Keep the loot super limited: no items beyond blue (rare) quality. Increase the arc presence. You can do your quests and hunt arc, but you can't gain a big power advantage.

THE REASONING

Why this, instead of an always-available PvE mode? Low-risk raiding should be a reprieve; a small treat. Not the standard.

If you remove most of the risk, you remove most of the reward. The danger is the whole point in a game like this.

Without danger, we lose lose the serendipity. You don't need to make friends or find out who people are and what they're up to. You don't have the little moments like accidentally shooting someone and then trying to make it up to them. Or the dilemma of deciding whether to defib a stranger who could be an adversary.

PvE also removes a lot of hard and soft gaming skills. I don't have to mind my aim in order to stay friendly. I don't have to say "Hey I'm friendly, what's up dude." There's no more flashlight friend-or-foe indicator. The sound of a powerful weapon no longer gets my hackles up. I don't need to listen for footsteps.

Lastly, open PvE could wreck the economy. You shouldn't be able to free-farm materials.

Adaptive matchmaking works. If you've earned your way deep into the friendly ranks, you can play all evening without getting shot at. This should suffice for most dads and uncles. But the risk is always there in the back of your mind.

And for those that need a boost now and then, we have a rotating Temporary Ceasefire map condition.

What if I want to play PvE when I want to? Theres some map conditions I genuinely see once a week because I have a full time job.

I just have the genuine question of - why are people so against a PvE Toggle? It'd bring some people back and probably some new people to it

Because there is a chance that mixed lobbies and potential rats and stuff, which some of us enjoy, might fully disappear. I personally like not knowing if another player is a threat or not, I think that is a lot of fun. I’m dully aware not everyone wants that but those lobbies will dwindle even more.

This exactly. When this was first announced it made me hope for something that would cure my Hunt addiction, and it did in the most wonderful ways until Embark starting changing the product I paid for (and they marketed as) into something I like much less.

Because it negatively impacts the experience of the entire game just to cater towards a select few individuals who are loudly against PvP

Would it be worse if those loud few just straight up left the game instead? Genuine question, I know there are people who left cause of rats, just being bad, RMTers, etc. If the other option is those people just quitting and not playing at all, is that preferable to the longevity and health of the game? Or is it better to have them still play and maybe every now and then they hop in a “real” lobby despite mostly being on PvE mode?

They shouldn’t have bought the game in the first place if they didn’t like it this much. Changing the game drastically to cater to the few who are upset 100% is good for the games longevity

I guess I just don’t agree that “changing the game drastically” is adding an OPTIONAL mode that people can opt into or not. How does it change the experience of the game for people who don’t play PvE?

It legitimately affects everybody.

PvP players have to either grind in PvE or just perma fight ppl that always have better loot than them bc they grinded out PvP players.

Mixed lobbies (which already were rare from the abysmal ABMM system) are now going to be non existent as the PvE players left the standard mode.

PvE lobbies will be stagnant and continue to have basically no communication while being plagued with loot stealers that you cannot fight back.

Not to mention how it splits an already small playerbase and makes Q times in certain regions abysmal.

Select few? Game died cuz of rats. Literally everyone was fed up taking 200k loadout to do a queen just to die to a rat.

Game didn’t die from rats game died from lack of content.

Dying with valuable stuff is part of an extraction shooter 🤯

Ahh live service game enjoyer. Why did I even know you'd say this. This ain't gta bruh there was plenty of content for a game like this. Game died cuz of hackers and rats and whatnot
