MEGATHREAD 2026/27 Semester 1 AUTUMN/WINTER: where are you going on Erasmus?

Every semester there will be a megathread for the people that are currently on Erasmus, internship or studying abroad in general. Spot someone in the same city as you? Maybe your very first friends can be met on this thread!

You can post whatever you like here, you can also post your comment like this:

• Where are you on Erasmus (Country + City)? Why did you choose this city/country?

• How is your experience so far? (If you are already there!)

• How you found accommodation?

• Advice for future students in your country + city

Are you a student going on your erasmus in Spring 2027? This thread might help you

Old thread: MEGATHREAD 2025/26 Semester 2 Spring: where are you going on Erasmus? : r/Erasmus

* This megathread is earlier than the usual ones. This is so that others can maybe find people who go to the same city as them and to already engage in conversation for that. But the thread stays up until January for sure!

Accommodation MEGATHREAD - Looking for your Erasmus room/studio?

Hey there! Are you about to go on exchange on your Erasmus but haven't found accommodation yet? No worries!

Below are some sites that can help you find accommodation in the country you are going to. So far, all the countries have been listed, so plenty of websites to pick from to get your accommodation ready. Some websites do not have an English version, keep that in mind. And remember:

NEVER PAY WITHOUT SEEING YOUR CONTRACT!

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

None of these websites have paid any sort of advertisement to be featured here nor am I as a moderator receiving any type of commission. I want r/Erasmus users to get their accommodation as cheap, clean and good as possible.

That being said, some websites do request money for you to have a subscription to them. It is your own responsibility if you choose to do this. Every country should have options for free room searching.

This list will stay pinned in the sub to help others. Remember: If you see an accommodation site that is not to be trusted, please let me know! If any site is deemed very untrustworthy, it will be removed instantly.

For (most) Erasmus countries:
Spotahome - https://www.spotahome.com/
Uniplaces - https://uniplaces.com
Housinganywhere - https://housinganywhere.com
Facebook groups
Airbnb - https://airbnb.com Erasmusu - https://erasmusu.com/

Most students find their accommodation through Facebook groups, so make sure to have an account ready and join as many housing groups for your city as you can. Remember that there are also a lot of scams on Facebook. You can recognize these by something being too good to be true (a 500 euro apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, for example, such a thing costs 2000 minimum) or if the person posting it immediately asks you to pay.

Extra tip for finding accommodation in most Erasmus countries:

- Join the ESN whatsapp groupchats of your city before you go (you can usually find this on links on their instagram page or on their facebook page). Around the end of the semester (december/january, may/june) people start leaving their places and put this inside the groupchat. Take your chance and grab a room from previous Erasmus goers!

Oh oh, HELP! I still have not found accommodation with any of these websites!

Try to go to the subreddit of the city you want to do your semester(s) in and see if you can find anything there. For example, you want to do your Erasmus+ in Rome, so go to r/Rome and search the searchbar for 'housing' 'accommodation' if you cannot find anything make your own post. If nothing there, go to r/Italy. Natives in their own country know the housing market best!

Have you been on Erasmus before (or you've lived in one of these countries and you know the housing market well), tell us which accommodation website is missing and I will add it (if the name is reputable, that is).

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad I went on exchange as a student with hidden disabilities. Here are some tips and tricks. Also AMA

Hello, my name is Georgia. I am from Czechia. I am 26. I have just been on a study abroad exchange in New Zealand (Erasmus, just outside Europe), and now I am on Erasmus in the Netherlands.I am also a person with hidden disabilities. More specifically, I have a mental health-related disability, special needs in education, and I am neurodiverse. I am also queer(not disability, but a difference). These things are challenging on their own in my country of origin, so going abroad is something that is bound to bring additional challenges. I've found a few things that work for me, and I would like to share them. You're also welcome to ask about anything you want to know.

Do research beforehand

This is very important. Unlike other Erasmus students, you will face extra difficulties. What support options does your home or host uni offer to those students? Can you arrange them beforehand? Is your host country good at handling people with disabilities at your school? Is your accommodation institution ready? These are all questions you should be ready to answer before you SELECT the destination.

Let your home and host university know. And do it outside of the official forms.

Ideally, before you arrive, contact the disability office directly and let them know your needs. If you need additional financial support, you can also ask your home university for extra funding (my disability doesn't require that, but many do). They do extra funding for this. You should also definitely let your host university know. Ideally, schedule a call with the staff. They will be happy you contacted them in advance, and you are more likely to get support if you flag it in advance. I had a positive experience with this in both New Zealand and the Netherlands; staff at both universities were very helpful and professional, and they did the best they could.

Pack enough meds if possible.

If you are not planning to return to your home country throughout the semester. Make sure you pack enough medications. It is almost impossible to get advanced medications in some countries without prior history. I have not had the unpleasant experience myself yet, but many of my friends did not because they could not get the right medication in time. Also, you should definitely register with the local health provider and get appropriate insurance. You don't want to have a health emergency without cover. In both cases, the registration was very handy.

Focus on finding the right people; it's not necessary to have a picturesque exchange experience.

Do not take into account what people tell you exchange is like. If you have a disability, especially one that affects your socialising abilities. If you don't vibe with some people. Do not think this is your fault. Just keep trying, join clubs that do certain activities, volunteer if possible, join a group. If you don't want to party, don't go. The worst that can happen is that you are going to be forced to do something you are not able to do, and you will feel bad, and everyone else will feel that too. In New Zealand, I was vibing a lot with a local school newspaper and people from my class; while here in the Netherlands, I am vibing with ESN. It's very different across contexts, but in large unis there will always be a group that's your vibe.

If a problem arises, do not be afraid to ask for help. Use the services before things get ugly.

Being alone in a faraway country can be hard, especially for people who do not fit into the conventional Erasmus bubble. If things go south, even a bit, do seek help. Trust me, some people and services can help you. If you communicate your needs honestly, you will be able to get help more easily.

And last but not least, be yourself.

Erasmus is 4everyone. Not just for kids who have perfect lives. Your disability shouldn't stop you from having this experience. I went twice, and I do not regret it at all. In fact, I can say it was very formative and changed me a bit. Your university, the people around you, and you need to be yourself because you belong to this world. Come on, Erasmus+: it might not look like it does on Instagram, but it can still be great despite the obstacles.

If anybody has any questions, let me know.

Dont forget every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top...

Erasmus+ Internship How to find a room in Barcelona

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I'm moving to Barcelona for an Erasmus internship from December until the end of June, and I'm struggling to find a room. I've been checking idealista, but many listings come with high agency fees on top of the deposit, and I'm worried about scams since I can't view places in person before arriving.
Where do you usually find rooms? Are there any Facebook groups, websites, or areas you'd recommend for someone on a student budget? I'd also appreciate any advice on avoiding scams or what a fair price looks like right now.
Thanks a lot!

Is it ok to apply for more than one program? Do they cross information? I wonder if applying for a second program will negatively impact my 1st application, which is still under review.

Help With UniAssist SPOT

Hi there! I have been trying to figure out the Uni-Assist website for my SPOT application. And while I did find an incredibly helpful reddit post on this from a year ago, I fear they never mentioned to question about “Festellungsprüfung“ exam.

As an American student, I put no, because I obviously have not taken that exam. When I did that and submitted, my application immediately disappeared with no place for me to upload my important documents, transcripts, etc.

What happened? What should I do?

here’s the link to the other post i’ve been following

[Casual] How do students prepare for job & internship interviews? (Students, 18+, Spain/Europe) — 2 min

Hi! I’m a first-year business student in Madrid. I’m researching how students prepare for internship and job interviews, and whether practising with a real recruiter would actually help.

It’s 12 quick questions, takes about 2 minutes, and it’s anonymous (email at the end is optional).

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdl_xkVqSE3U_gsUy3LfUOu4sOVQBFxTGgXg1LVQ3kRYyOThg/viewform

Honest answers help most: a “no” is just as useful as a “yes”. Happy to share the results here when I’m done. Thanks a lot! 🙏

Erasmus

Hello everyone! 😊

I’m preparing my Erasmus application for next semester, but I’m still really torn about which destination to choose. I meet the academic requirements for both universities, but I’m not sure which one would be the better fit for me.

I’m choosing between the University of Vienna in Austria and the University of Turin (UniTo) in Italy.

I’d love to experience an international environment, meet lots of different people from different countries and, hopefully, stay in touch with them even after Erasmus. I want to step out of my comfort zone, have fun, travel and learn new things. At the same time, I hope university won’t take up all of my time and that I’ll have the opportunity to make the most of the whole experience.

What attracts me to Vienna: The university has a good academic reputation, and from what I’ve researched, the city offers plenty of opportunities, an excellent public transport system and easy access to other countries. I also know there’s a Bulgarian community there and that getting by with English is relatively easy. However, I’m worried that the academic workload might limit my time for socialising and travelling.

What attracts me to Turin: Italian culture feels somewhat closer to my own, and the atmosphere seems more relaxed and welcoming. There’s also a chance that I might go with a fellow student from my course, which could make adapting to a new environment easier. On the other hand, I’m wondering whether there will be enough opportunities to meet a diverse range of people and travel, as well as how difficult it might be to find accommodation.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has done Erasmus in either of these cities or knows the universities and student life there well.

I hope you’ve managed to get the general idea despite this little essay, haha! Thank you in advance to everyone who takes the time to share their experiences and advice! ❤️

Is a gap year worth it before eramus mundus?

I'm currently preparing for my masters degree abroad under erasmus mundus. However, considering all the paperwork it requires, it made me consider to take a gap year (sep2027 -june/july2028) and apply for the program in december 2027 so that I will join the program in September 2028. The gap year will take place after my graduation, and during it I will work a part-time job in an airport, complete my language certificates in Italian and Japanese (beginner level) and potentially join internships which I of course will add to my CV when I apply. I am worried if things will not go the way that I expected or that the universities will consider the gap year as a weakness. If anyone has gone through this situation pls share your opinion and advice I will be eternally grateful. 🙏🏻 🥲

Everyone talks about traveling, parties and making friends, but I'm curious about the other side too.

What is something you wish you'd known before going on Erasmus? Good or bad, I'd love to hear it!

Erasmus in Italy (Palermo/Cagliari)

Hello everyone! I´m deciding between Palermo and Cagliari for my autumn semester next year. As an Art and Aesthetics student Im really excited about Italy´s rich artistic heritage and vibrant culture. I love meeting new people, local traditions and of course the sea! 🌊 Also Im planning on learning Italian before I go (if I go :D), but I´m not sure if a basic level will be enough, or if locals generally speak english. For anyone who has lived or studied in Palermo/Cagliari, I´d love to know -

How´s the vibe in the city? Is it easy to connect with locals and make friends? :)

What´s the weather like in autumn/spring semester? Is swimming ok? xp

What´s the cultural and artistic scene like for an Art student?

Also Is the average student budget manageable for rent, food and going out?

Any insights, personal experiences, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Grazie mille! :)))))))))))

Erasmus Mundus Reading Recommendations for GLOBED

Hello, I'm preparing to apply for certain programs for my Master's and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some reading recommendations regarding Education Policies. I'm a TEFL grad and I used to follow my lectures closely so I have some experience with my own country but I'm looking for more comprehensive textbooks, especially the classics in the field or ones that cover the topic in a more international manner.

Any other advice is highly appreciated and thank you in advance!!!

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad How does one find meaningful friendship on Erasmus

I’m a non-EU student doing a semester in Wrocław, Poland. I’ve been here for about a week and a half and I have genuinely made zero friends. My classes happen on an even/odd week schedule so it’s hard to even make friends with people from class. The most I’ve managed to do is have some random chats with people at my dorm, but it seems like most people already have their established friend groups so no real luck in that either. Also, as a bit of an aside—for anyone who’s done/is doing Erasmus in Wrocław or Poland at large, did/have you experienced any form of prejudice?
