MEGATHREAD 2026/27 Semester 1 AUTUMN/WINTER: where are you going on Erasmus?

Every semester there will be a megathread for the people that are currently on Erasmus, internship or studying abroad in general. Spot someone in the same city as you? Maybe your very first friends can be met on this thread!

You can post whatever you like here, you can also post your comment like this:

• Where are you on Erasmus (Country + City)? Why did you choose this city/country?

• How is your experience so far? (If you are already there!)

• How you found accommodation?

• Advice for future students in your country + city

Are you a student going on your erasmus in Spring 2027? This thread might help you

Old thread: MEGATHREAD 2025/26 Semester 2 Spring: where are you going on Erasmus? : r/Erasmus

* This megathread is earlier than the usual ones. This is so that others can maybe find people who go to the same city as them and to already engage in conversation for that. But the thread stays up until January for sure!

Accommodation MEGATHREAD - Looking for your Erasmus room/studio?

Hey there! Are you about to go on exchange on your Erasmus but haven't found accommodation yet? No worries!

Below are some sites that can help you find accommodation in the country you are going to. So far, all the countries have been listed, so plenty of websites to pick from to get your accommodation ready. Some websites do not have an English version, keep that in mind. And remember:

NEVER PAY WITHOUT SEEING YOUR CONTRACT!

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

None of these websites have paid any sort of advertisement to be featured here nor am I as a moderator receiving any type of commission. I want r/Erasmus users to get their accommodation as cheap, clean and good as possible.

That being said, some websites do request money for you to have a subscription to them. It is your own responsibility if you choose to do this. Every country should have options for free room searching.

This list will stay pinned in the sub to help others. Remember: If you see an accommodation site that is not to be trusted, please let me know! If any site is deemed very untrustworthy, it will be removed instantly.

For (most) Erasmus countries:
Spotahome - https://www.spotahome.com/
Uniplaces - https://uniplaces.com
Housinganywhere - https://housinganywhere.com
Facebook groups
Airbnb - https://airbnb.com Erasmusu - https://erasmusu.com/

Most students find their accommodation through Facebook groups, so make sure to have an account ready and join as many housing groups for your city as you can. Remember that there are also a lot of scams on Facebook. You can recognize these by something being too good to be true (a 500 euro apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, for example, such a thing costs 2000 minimum) or if the person posting it immediately asks you to pay.

Extra tip for finding accommodation in most Erasmus countries:

- Join the ESN whatsapp groupchats of your city before you go (you can usually find this on links on their instagram page or on their facebook page). Around the end of the semester (december/january, may/june) people start leaving their places and put this inside the groupchat. Take your chance and grab a room from previous Erasmus goers!

Oh oh, HELP! I still have not found accommodation with any of these websites!

Try to go to the subreddit of the city you want to do your semester(s) in and see if you can find anything there. For example, you want to do your Erasmus+ in Rome, so go to r/Rome and search the searchbar for 'housing' 'accommodation' if you cannot find anything make your own post. If nothing there, go to r/Italy. Natives in their own country know the housing market best!

Have you been on Erasmus before (or you've lived in one of these countries and you know the housing market well), tell us which accommodation website is missing and I will add it (if the name is reputable, that is).

Erasmus

Hello everyone! 😊

I’m preparing my Erasmus application for next semester, but I’m still really torn about which destination to choose. I meet the academic requirements for both universities, but I’m not sure which one would be the better fit for me.

I’m choosing between the University of Vienna in Austria and the University of Turin (UniTo) in Italy.

I’d love to experience an international environment, meet lots of different people from different countries and, hopefully, stay in touch with them even after Erasmus. I want to step out of my comfort zone, have fun, travel and learn new things. At the same time, I hope university won’t take up all of my time and that I’ll have the opportunity to make the most of the whole experience.

What attracts me to Vienna: The university has a good academic reputation, and from what I’ve researched, the city offers plenty of opportunities, an excellent public transport system and easy access to other countries. I also know there’s a Bulgarian community there and that getting by with English is relatively easy. However, I’m worried that the academic workload might limit my time for socialising and travelling.

What attracts me to Turin: Italian culture feels somewhat closer to my own, and the atmosphere seems more relaxed and welcoming. There’s also a chance that I might go with a fellow student from my course, which could make adapting to a new environment easier. On the other hand, I’m wondering whether there will be enough opportunities to meet a diverse range of people and travel, as well as how difficult it might be to find accommodation.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has done Erasmus in either of these cities or knows the universities and student life there well.

I hope you’ve managed to get the general idea despite this little essay, haha! Thank you in advance to everyone who takes the time to share their experiences and advice! ❤️

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad What is one thing nobody tells you about Erasmus?

Everyone talks about traveling, parties and making friends, but I'm curious about the other side too.

What is something you wish you'd known before going on Erasmus? Good or bad, I'd love to hear it!

Erasmus in Italy (Palermo/Cagliari)

Hello everyone! I´m deciding between Palermo and Cagliari for my autumn semester next year. As an Art and Aesthetics student Im really excited about Italy´s rich artistic heritage and vibrant culture. I love meeting new people, local traditions and of course the sea! 🌊 Also Im planning on learning Italian before I go (if I go :D), but I´m not sure if a basic level will be enough, or if locals generally speak english. For anyone who has lived or studied in Palermo/Cagliari, I´d love to know -

How´s the vibe in the city? Is it easy to connect with locals and make friends? :)

What´s the weather like in autumn/spring semester? Is swimming ok? xp

What´s the cultural and artistic scene like for an Art student?

Also Is the average student budget manageable for rent, food and going out?

Any insights, personal experiences, or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Grazie mille! :)))))))))))

Erasmus Mundus Reading Recommendations for GLOBED

Hello, I'm preparing to apply for certain programs for my Master's and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share some reading recommendations regarding Education Policies. I'm a TEFL grad and I used to follow my lectures closely so I have some experience with my own country but I'm looking for more comprehensive textbooks, especially the classics in the field or ones that cover the topic in a more international manner.

Any other advice is highly appreciated and thank you in advance!!!

Erasmus+ semester(s) abroad How does one find meaningful friendship on Erasmus

I’m a non-EU student doing a semester in Wrocław, Poland. I’ve been here for about a week and a half and I have genuinely made zero friends. My classes happen on an even/odd week schedule so it’s hard to even make friends with people from class. The most I’ve managed to do is have some random chats with people at my dorm, but it seems like most people already have their established friend groups so no real luck in that either. Also, as a bit of an aside—for anyone who’s done/is doing Erasmus in Wrocław or Poland at large, did/have you experienced any form of prejudice?

Erasmus Mundus Title: Realistic chances of getting an Erasmus Mundus scholarship for MSc Physics with an 8.78 CGPA?

Hi everyone! I'm an Indian BSc Physics graduate planning to apply for Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's programmes in Physics and would appreciate some honest feedback on my chances of getting a scholarship.

My CGPA is 8.78/10, and I have a gap year in my academic timeline. During this time, I've gained practical experience at a drone startup, working in manufacturing and assembly and learning flight simulation for different aircraft and drones. I also worked on the aeromodelling of an aircraft later used for defence purposes.

Additionally, I was selected for NIUS Physics Camp 21.1, presented research on nanosensors for water pollution at a research scholar meet, and have experience with ANSYS and structural simulations. I'm currently working on a research project under an aerospace professor with experience in joint NASA–ISRO missions. I've also been exploring Prof. Hari Hablani's work in spacecraft dynamics and control.

My long-term interests are in applied physics, instrumentation, and space technology.

I'd love to know:

- How competitive is my profile for Erasmus Mundus Physics scholarships?

- Can practical aerospace experience and ongoing research strengthen my application despite limited publications?

- Which programmes would suit my background, and what should I prioritise to improve my chances?

I'd appreciate realistic feedback, especially from Indian students who have received the scholarship or applied with a similar profile. Thank you!

Erasmus+ Internship Finding it impossible to make friends and I feel like I'm wasting my Erasmus

First of all, I know that doing Erasmus is a privilege and I'm incredibly lucky to get that opportunity. However, I'm a month into my 3-month internship in a small city (won't reveal location for anonymity reasons), and still socializing feels like pulling out a tooth. I tried joining ESN events but they're very exclusive, often you need to pay for them, & they have a super limited number of participants. Also most people there are 19-20 years old, where my 25 year old self feels like an auntie, they enjoy drinking and partying which is just super draining for me.

I also got kinda unlucky with my internship since there's not a lot of work, I mostly work from home and barely meet other interns. The international people I did meet, however, tend to already have established groups and don't seem to like socialising out of them (e.g. the French people tend to stick together, Spanish people together etc). I live alone in a flat and have no one else from my country so I feel like a hermit. Even in a group chat they seem to only reply to each other and when someone who's not in their circle asks a question, it just gets ignored. Honestly it sometimes feels like a cult you cannot even join. To clarify, I did take initiative multiple times and 80% of the time got rejected (which tbh is totally fine), but then I see the same people going to same places that I offered with a new friend group. It just makes you feel if they really just dislike you.

Normally I'm very introverted and enjoy being alone, I went to many places alone since coming here but it just hurts a little when I see other international people posting pics together and having fun. I'm not the kind of person to push myself into groups (tried doing that before and it just backfires and makes you seem annoying), but I can't help but feel like crying at times. I was bullied all through my school days and barely had any friends so this is just all bringing back those feelings that I tried so hard to get over. And still I have to put on a show for family and friends at home because I'm supposed to be having the time of my life and I don't want them to worry about me. It just feels like I'll never get this socialising thing right no matter what I do...

Sorry for the rant, I know Erasmus is what you make it but idk where to even start. I'm only here for 2 more months so it doesn't make sense to volunteer or do something long term, and it's really hard to find meaningful connections when other Erasmus people seem to hate socialising out of their groups.

Erasmus+ Green Travel: Student Survey for a University Project

Hi everyone!

I’m a Computer Science student working on my qualification project, which involves developing a web app related to Erasmus+ Green Travel.

I’m currently conducting user research to understand students’ experiences with green travel, travel planning, and the documentation required for Erasmus+ mobility.

If you’ve participated in Erasmus+ or are planning to, I’d really appreciate it if you could fill out my survey! It takes around 5–10 minute, and your responses will help me design the application around students’ actual needs.

Survey: https://forms.gle/GN2FWporEwSoAVrH8

Thank you so much for your time and help! ❤️

I am an18 years old, from Lebanon. I'll be moving to Debrecen in February 2027 to study the Intensive Foundation Semester at the University of Debrecen.

I'm looking for a male student who's also moving to Debrecen around February and would be interested in sharing an apartment.

I haven't found an apartment yet, so we can look for a suitable place together.

If anyone is interested or in a similar situation, feel free to DM me!

Housing for Erasmus students in Bulgaria

Going to be doing Erasmus in Bulgaria. Is it safe to rent a flat/room from abroad online without having seen the flat in person?
Is there a lot of fraud with housing going on? Had a bad experience with that in france so was wondering whats your experience.
