A comprehensive guide for EU foreigners moving to Poland - START HERE.
Hello, I have seen many folks coming to Poland from the EU and being completely lost on what kind of legal procedures they have to do in order to start their residence in Poland. Be that you come here to study, work or live with your spouse there are several things I hope this guide will be able to cover.
!PLEASE NOTE!
This guide is meant only for citizens of the European Union and citizens of countries that are members of the European Economic Area. Some of the parts of this guide will be similar for non-EU foreigners but some will not. In general, the info posted here is only fully up to date if you are a citizen of the EU/EEA
!PLEASE NOTE!
0. Introduction and general info
Poland is divided into 16 voivodeships which are further subdivided into powiats, which means something like 'county' and these are further made out of municipalities - pol. gmina, or cities - pol. miasto. Large cities however are both powiat and miasto so in case of Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków etc. city office (pol. urząd miasta) will also perform duties of powiat office (pol. starostwo powiatowe). In case of Warsaw - urząd dzielnicy meaning district office will serve as city office.
All of the below information covers only EU/EEA citizens. If you are non-EU, majority of the below information will not be correct for your case.
I strongly recommend reading all of the parts linked below apart from car and pets stuff, if those do not concern your case.
I. Registering your residence and making your stay in Poland legal.
II. Obtaining health insurance
III. Using healthcare
IV. Taxes
V. Digital log-in and services
VI. Cars and licenses
VII. Banks and mobile phones
VIII. What to do when I leave Poland?
IX. Pets
If you have any additional questions or remarks, please do not hesitate to comment, I will be happy to help for as long as I'm going to visit this platform and expand this post. I hope you all have a great day and life in general. Thanks for reading, stay safe.

I'm worried
I left my home town about 20 years ago. I’ve stayed in touch ever since. I keep an eye on the community.
Today I learnt that a lad I knew had passed away. When I wanted to share this news with a friend, I found out that two more had died over the last two weeks. All aged between 38 and 40. One was struck down by illness, another by alcohol, and the third took his own life. I’d known them all since childhood.
Look after yourselves, look after your health; don’t dwell on the past, and don’t think too much about the future. Focus on the here and now, on what matters.

Grandfathers pocket knife lost in Poland, how to get it back?
In August i mailed my grandfathers pocket knife from Madeira, Portugal, to my home in Denmark. I put an Airtag in the parcel, and i can see that after arriving at a postage terminal in Denmark, it has somehow ended up in Poland. More precisely in Drawno. I have attached a screenshot. Does anyone have an idea of how i can get it back?
Thanks in advance!

I am the first in my bloodline to cook kielbasa in a wok
That’s the funny part. The unfunny part is how badly I butchered the recipe. my father won’t stop yelling and and my mother is sobbing. Dziadek won’t look at me and my Babcia fainted.
For context this is the recipe and this is the adjustments I made:
Replaced the sausage with kielbasa, Except I cubed it (badly) to all hell. Apparently I’m supposed to slice it
Didn’t have a cutting board for that step so I used a paper towel, got paper towel particles in the dish most definitely
Cooked (and burned) everything in a wok because the only pan we have in our new apartment is teeny tiny
That did not stop me from trying to use the cheap tiny pan at first
Some of the kielbasa spilled onto the stove
Disaster
Scooped some of it back up
Started heating the Walmart wok (first time using it btw)
Used olive oil instead of avocado oil like an idiot
Olive oil has a lower smoke point so I set off the smoke detector (Tbf it goes off at everything, and is certainly definitely not a testament to my cooking)
Nearly spilled hot oil on myself
Completely forgot to get the spinach at the store so I just made it without
Added WAY too much Parmesan cheese
Tried to scrape some of the parm back into the container (???)
Made a cheese disaster
And finally, disappointed my ancestors.
It was delicious.

Jagiellonian University - thoughts on my area of study and adaptation?
Hello! I am an American girl looking to apply to Jagiellonian for my first cycle for the 2027/2028 school year. I want to major in Eastern European Language and Cultures - specifically studying Russian and Polish. To the people who have taken courses at this university learning either Russian or polish: I was wondering the intensity of the classes?
Also, I dont know much about Polish people in general, so I was wondering how different Poles are from Americans? What will be the general attitude be when I’m attempting to speak Polish?
Many people say my major is useless, which isn’t necessarily wrong, but I hope to become a foreign language teacher someday. Whether it be in Poland, America, or even in another country.
Please give me all the advice you have!! Thank you!!

Japanese Name in Poland
Hello everyone!
I am from Japan, and I want to study in Warszawa for a year, starting next summer. My name is very common in Japan, butp one of my upperclassmen told me I might run into problems because of it if I was outside Warszawa. My name is Yui, pronounced as it is written, (Ju-i) and I was told that it would immediately remind Polish people of a swear word. I want to avoid this, of course!
Please be honest with me and give me feedback if you speak Polish natively, if there are bad associations, I will think of a solution!
Thank you in advance.

Polish Friends taught me to say Zdzisław Beksiński properly for my video.
These past few weeks, I've been working on a video game review for the horror game SCORN; Zdzisław Beksiński was one of the artists who inspired its world alongside H.R. Giger. I'd like to hear from you Poles if I was taught well on saying this artist's name. I practiced for a few days during the video's production to ensure I could get it right during my voice-over work! :D

Question on documents: Polish/American living in USA
Hello Everyone,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post.
I am a Polish American citizen living in the USA. I got married a little while back and sent in documentation to the Polish embassy to have it registered, only to have it sent back to me requesting more information. I also recently gave birth and want to make sure my daughter (3 months) also gets a Polish passport.
How important is it that I register my marriage with the Polish embassy? Should I focus more on getting myself a new passport and applying for my daughter instead? Do you have any good resources for me, preferably with translations (my Polish has deteriorated over my time in the States, and legal language is hard for me to comprehend)?
Any and all advice is deeply appreciated!
