Various games - Iraqi Reload: A few games have this reload, including Call of Duty and The Finals. I would've put The Finals version here but I couldn't find a gif of it.
Battlefield Hardline - Various reloads: Various guns have a chance for a unique reload, these are two of my favorites.
Battlefield 1 - Double Barrel: The sawed off has a chance to mimic the reload from the Classic Doom double barel reload
This movie is absolute fucking dogshit but I absolutely love the reloads. They almost make the movie worth the watch on their own. If only there were more than like four or five.
I’m so glad I watched this movie and then read the books later without any recollection of it, think I watched it on an airplane and thought it was fine. Having read the books I don’t know if I want to rewatch it to see for myself how awful it is or avoid it and let the movie stay in its essentially unrelated to the books part of my memory where it’s harmless
It’s a pretty bad movie, but it does kind of work in the context of being a new game plus playthrough from the book story, if you wanna look at it that way.
I love and hate this. The reload is absolutely incredible looking, Idris looks badass, and the Remington 1858 is my favorite revolver. I hate that I would have to spend a fortune on the modification for the cylinder to swing out like that.
The story and villains were so fucking dumb, but the gunplay is the tightest it's ever been. Borderlands 2 was fun, but the weapons just didn't feel... punchy
BL3 is the best in the franchise in everything except story. BL4 was cool too, and had some nice additions, but I didn't really care for the open world and the new gun manufacturers were awful so less usable guns IMO.
The best part is it’s the intentional design of the Tediore manufacturer. Every single one of their guns, pistols to rocket launchers, has some variation of it.
bigger boom with more round left in the mag. I had a gun that had all kinds of bonuses to the explosion, and I had all kinds of bonuses to explosions, so the highest DPS I could manage was to fire a single round, then throw the gun at the enemy. rinse and repeat until I ran out of SMG rounds.
maybe I’m weird but did anyone else ever think this looked so normal? I feel like when I wear a button-up shirt like that it feels so restrictive and like if I needed to do something strenuous I would try to shift the shirt around like this so the seams aren’t getting like stuck on my shoulders? just me???
I don't think anyone questions why he did it. He swings his arms once to shift his shirt to fit him looser, allowing for better range of motion for the fight. It's also a small warm up, and also pumps him up for the fight.
It isn't a meme cause it is "weird", it's a meme cause it's fucking badass.
If I remember correctly the reason he did this is because they did so many takes that he was getting tired and just needed to shake his muscles out, but the director thought it looked cool and used this take.
Same as Doorman in Deadlock, he’s an eldritch god so he just tosses his gun away through a dimensional door and a new one pops out. Wish I had a gif of it, he’s a really well-designed character.
Honestly, most of the deadlock cast has amazing reloads.
Billy the goat either eating the charger and placing a new one with his mouth or somehow getting bullets in by bashing skulls with his baseball bat will never not be funny
My headcanon is that the Johnny part of V’s brain is making him reload like that. Like the first time V reloads it he spins it all flashy-like and then just stops and goes “…Why did I do that?”
And Johnny’s like “Cuz it looks freakin’ awesome, that’s why.”
Many of the characters in Deadlock have the most unique character design and reload animations I have ever seen.
In the gif, Solomon, uses a chessboard and chess pieces as his ammo. He flips it over a reloads it into a game that matches the amount of ammo he carries.
The character Rem carries a little candle as his weapon and shake out the candle that will later relight itself. Paige uses a book as her "gun" and when it runs out of ammo, she will close the book and flip to another page. The Doorman drops his gun into a portal and another portal will drop a new gun for him to use.
My favorite newest reload aside from Solomon has to be Baba's too, who shoots out magic bolts from her hands and when she reloads she takes a sip from her teapot.
Yes 100% I posted above about deadlock in another comment chain and then saw this post. Deadlock is pure reload porn, if anyone wants to see amazing reload animations just download the game and cycle through all the characters in the training area.
He's carrying a Djinn's lamp while she's inside it, acting as her bodyguard. So his other hand is always full and he has a pistol in his main. He flicks it up, smoke comes out of the lamp, and fills up the gun for him.
It's not as awesome as a lot of them (like Solomon's above), but the simplicity in it is so great.
Considering Billy has the goat head but still has a human body, that probably means he still has a human stomach. Can his body even handle all that lead and brass?
IIRC there’s another scene in Equilibrium where the mags have weighted hemisphere bottoms that keep them stood upright on a flat surface such as the ground. The MC reloads by lowering his guns’ mag wells down into them.
The anime sells itself on the fanservice, but I personally come back to it every so often because it's weirdly wholesome.
Due to some quirks in the way it was adapted from the source manga (which is shameless trash), it inadvertently stumbled into what I think is one of the strongest relationship dynamics I've ever seen between its leads in all of anime.
It's not bad, but not really good either. Distinctly a "meh" shonen fanservice anime. Has a decent storyline and a couple character arcs. As SirFluffyBottom said above, it's distinctly "acceptable" territory all around. No real weak points, but also nothing overly good or interesting beyond that reload. For it's era the fight choreography is mildly impressive.
Absolute best thing to do was to fire 40 on first one, pick up 2nd, then you are always reloading one when other is still firing. That is, until you're fully out of ammo because that shit burned through the rounds.
It can convert a single barrel break action shotgun into a 5 round repeating shotgun though the amount of mechanics and bulk probably mean it would be smarter to just manually load a shell or get a lever action or pump
Tediore wepons from Borderlands series, you yeet the gun, it works like a grenade and another copy just appears in your hands, some have special effects, the rocket launcher works like another rocket for example
Nero does this little flourish in Devil May Cry 4, and it returns as a taunt in 5.
Nero and Dante don't actually need to do this, their power allows them to generate bullets, but Nero is a show off and in 5 he can use special explosive bullets that do need to be manually added... though he doesn't seem to run out of them either.
Because it's tangentially related, if anyone gets to play resident evil 4 vr (oculus) it's the closest you'll get to playing Nero/Dante, you can pull out the anmo, toss it in air and as long as it hits the gun it counts as a reload
So you can dual wield, toss your second gun up, toss the ammo, reload your first gun while catching the second and going to town.
And given that DMC was birthed from re4s struggles it just feels apt
John Wick (2 I think?): after reloading, John checks that the pistol is correctly loaded with one hand. This has since gotten really popular and now appears in games like Resident Evil.
I wish Zenyatta's kit was canon dude, you're telling me they allow turning light solid, giant glowing dragons, whatever the fuck Moira is doing to absorb health with thrown balls, everything Mei does with a jerry rigged hair dryer, and Reaper pulling guns out of nowhere, but Zenyatta doing his bullshit is too crazy apparently? What the fuck
Also give us lore for him Blizzard you fucking pussies >:(
Percy de Rolo (Legend of Vox Machina) reloads his gun The List, a muzzle-loaded black powder weapon, with a special device that he inserts into the barrels. The process is very quick and efficient.
Not really? Functions the same as one but looks very different because he's using a pepperbox that typically doesn't take cartridges so you have to put powder, then the wad, then the bullet down the barrel. So he, assumedly, has a contraption that reaches tubes down the barrel to fill them with those components.
The bullet reservoir upgrade for the pistol in Half-Life: Alyx.
Reloading when it's empty transfers all of that magazine's ammo to the hopper, which then feeds the gun on an empty magazine, letting you double your loaded ammo by reloading twice.
Fun fact: the animators who made all of the funny reloads for the battlefields you mentioned now work on the finals. Oscar Wetterbrandt is the lead animator and has amazing showcase videos on YouTube
Not really, it's been a competition technique for a while to ensure the magazine exits quickly and completely. John Wick just popularized it.
The franchise as a whole takes a lot of competition shooting bits and incorporates them into a film. Watch how they move, how they handle their weapons, how they load, then watch how a competition shooter moves, handles, and loads.
Man, I don't want to come off like some Monty traditionalist or "fix" asshole, but it's really a bummer that the story doesn't really have room for dope as fuck sequences like that any more.
I remember that! Someone asked "Wait... How does she reload with both her hands full?" so they invented this "ammo tree" that drops out of her backpack, and she just shoves her guns back there.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has a bunch of these. My favorite is he reloads the shotgun by flicking the shells into the air and letting them fall perfectly into the open breech.
weapons slapped together from scrap, trash and engine parts, made by a cult of lunatics. True to form, they don't have a magazine but an overheat gauge and when they overheat it triggers the "reload" animation that varies from the weapon bursting into flames and being put out with a water bottle or super soaker to the entire barrel just exploding and being replaced mid-fight.
As you kill multiple enemies in a short amount of time, your Bullet Time effect gets stronger (enemies and time get slower, Max moves at the same speed). Once it reaches almost-full power, Max does this dope reload/dodge move instead of reloading nornally.
Once you reach max power, every reload will make time will slow down even more for a moment as the camera pans around Max when he's reloading (gif is sped up like 2x)
Tediore is a company that produces cheap weapons and equipment. They stand out thanks to their incredibly fast reloads. Just toss them away and an exact replica using your stored ammo will immediately appear.
As for the tossed, empty guns, they turn into either grenades or missiles, turrets, or they'll grow legs and seek enemies to shoot.
How nobody has mentioned the reloads from Devil May Cry 3 and 4, I have no idea.
Lady, my favorite character from the franchise, uses the earthquake generated from her rocket launcher to launch all of her empty guns into the air, and as they fall she takes magazines from her belt and loads the firearms.
Nero in 4 throws a speed loader into the air, and as he's spinning and the rounds fall out of the loader, whips the cylinder out, lines all of them up, and slams the cylinder home... All with one hand entirely disabled.
I always enjoy seeing the ye olde speedloading method for revolvers where you just carry spare cylinders and quickly swap them, its really a thing you only saw alot of in the percussion cap era and had some play in the early cartridge era but it always looks sick even if objectively most of the time it would be easier to just reload by hand
Mista from JoJo Vento Aureo sometimes reloads his revolver by chucking bullets from his hat into the chambers by simply lower his head down and let gravity do the thing
IRL AK pattern rifle tactical reload. Ak's have a flush lower receiver magazine well, and magazines have a catch lip that has to be levered into place. The magazine release is in front of the trigger.
This leads to the fastest way to reload an AK is in one motion, with the left hand, trigger the magazine release and knock the empty mag out of the way, and levering the new mag into position. You then reach around (over or under) and charge the rifle with your left hand, leaving the right hand on the pistol grip the whole time. With practice you can do this in under a second and return o firing.
Important to note this is different than the "Iraqi Reload" that OP posted because with that, you have to pull back and hold the charging handle/bolt with the right hand, which is less stable and more prone to being dropped. You're also slower getting back into shooting position because you're strong hand is off the pistol grip. Last, if you aren't empty, pulling back the handle will eject and waste a live round.
