Characters Unique Reloads

Just characters with unique reloads. That's it.

Equilibrium: Clerics wrist mags

Various games - Iraqi Reload: A few games have this reload, including Call of Duty and The Finals. I would've put The Finals version here but I couldn't find a gif of it.

Battlefield Hardline - Various reloads: Various guns have a chance for a unique reload, these are two of my favorites.

Battlefield 1 - Double Barrel: The sawed off has a chance to mimic the reload from the Classic Doom double barel reload

Roland from The Dark Tower.

The books describe his ability to reload as a kind of meditative technique that he does automatically. It's a good read.

That's an understatement.

I didn't really liked the last three books, amd I absolutely hated the ending, but the first four was a masterpiece!

u/hay_guysss 7h ago

I will defend the ending till the day I die, it is actually perfect

53

u/Myducks_Touch 7h ago

Same. I loved the ending. Book 4 was my favourite but I appreciate how he went all in on the batshit crazy meta stuff in the last 3 books lol

14

u/spencerasteroid 6h ago

It's certainly a wild departure, but he commits fully which helps it go down smoother.

u/H377Spawn 7h ago

I didn’t love it on my first reading. 3 trips around Kah’s wheel and I love that shit.

3

u/BonanoPeppos 4h ago

I can't imagine disliking a 7 book series and having the commitment to try again.

7

u/Jihelu 6h ago

The ending is fine/good.

The lead up to the ending I was just hate reading the book.

Im stuck at book 7 for a year or so.

Really weird because i flew through books 1-4.

The wind through the keyhole was good too, but I also found the ending to be trash

I couldn't get past the point that Stephen King the author showed up as a character

18

u/X_Ender_X 8h ago

I agree, but King is far from the Author for Everyone. He writes good reads, but that's it. It's important to remember how divisive some of his opinions are, and for good reason.

28

u/MattPillard 7h ago

Who asked about his opinions?

7

u/lrrrkrrrr 5h ago

That scene in the first book with him in the town square fighting his way out and the way it was described is what made me fall in love with the character

5

u/Kamikazeguy7 6h ago

An excellent read. Too bad they never made a movie out of it.

6

u/X_Ender_X 6h ago

I saw Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey and I got so fucking excited.  :(

2

u/Background-Air-7963 4h ago

I saw Idris and thought there would definitely need to be some creative liberties taken with Detta

2

u/X_Ender_X 4h ago

Of course, but we would have to pray that it even got that far first. And normally since you brought it up I would be upset that they tried to change his race, but honestly if any actor could have pulled off Roland Idris was the guy. I can't think of a Caucasian actor that I would approve.

Daniel Day Lewis, Clint Eastwood 20 years ago, Timothy Olyphant in 10 years. Roland is old and grizzled from wandering the wastes

2

u/X_Ender_X 4h ago

Clint Eastwood, despite being the obvious inspiration for the character, never impressed me. Personal preference. I don't know who Daniel Lewis is, but Timothy Olyphant would get my vote a 1000 times

1

u/Background-Air-7963 4h ago

Daniel Day Lewis is considered amongst one of the best actors ever. Starred in the last of the Mohicans, there will be blood, gangs of New York, and many more. You definitely have some awesome movies to watch from his filmography

2

u/X_Ender_X 4h ago

No probably not. I just looked him up and I haven't seen him because I have never seen a single thing he was in, because I wasn't interested in any of it. To each their own.

Absolutely. Listened to all of the audio books. Love The Dark Tower series.

68

u/Evolution1738 7h ago

This movie is absolute fucking dogshit but I absolutely love the reloads. They almost make the movie worth the watch on their own. If only there were more than like four or five.

u/Weary_Position_9591 8h ago

God what a disappointment that they screwed up this adaptation. It was all there for the taking

37

u/JayPlays40k 7h ago

As far as I'm concerned, it was a very expensive costume test for Idris Elba

48

u/theinternetisnice 7h ago

I liked when Roland said “it’s gunslingin’ time” at the end

2

u/Escalotes 5h ago

And when his new buddy simply erased the big bad guy from existence with an eraser so Roland could climb the dark tower :)

74

u/Emperor_Atlas 7h ago

90% of adaptations tbh

People always trying to reinvent the story

55

u/Begone-My-Thong 7h ago

And then 10% of the time you get The Mist with that legendary ending

22

u/Rocinante88119 7h ago

Damn, why didn't I think of that?

Paraphrasing Stephen King

4

u/CJ_the_Zero 6h ago

The Shining too, it's so much better than the source material and it makes King so mad hahaha

2

u/badgerandaccessories 6h ago

A good adaptation would stop every now and then and say “intermission go watch the stand / Salems lot then resume”

5

u/Background-Air-7963 7h ago

Definitely can’t call Idris Elba a honkey ass mofo

2

u/Drmarcher42 6h ago

Wait a sec? I haven't (and have no plans on ever) seen the Dark Tower film. Are Eddie or Susannah even in it?

1

u/jojak_sana 5h ago

I imagine if they had continued this adaptation they would have made Susannah a racist white lady

2

u/Background-Air-7963 4h ago

They’d have to race swap the whole ka-tet and a redo Detta’s whole backstory to make it work. Idris Elba is a great actor, but choosing him for Roland was just attaching the biggest leading name they could get to a cheap cash grab of a film. There is no way there was any plan to continue the story with him as the lead. They’d also have to get Tarantino to direct with all the N-bombs Detta’d be doling out

2

u/KumaD-Oso 6h ago

I feel like there’s too much to tell for a span of an hr and something to 3 hours. The source is too great.

1

u/mdfgames 7h ago

Supposedly Mike Flannigan wants to take another go at adapting it.

1

u/jojak_sana 5h ago

It's just one poor attempt of Rolland going through the tower. Someday he'll find his way out

1

u/Pegussu 35m ago

Just scrolled past a post confirming Flanagan is doing a series.

26

u/West-Pirate-5480 7h ago

I’m so glad I watched this movie and then read the books later without any recollection of it, think I watched it on an airplane and thought it was fine. Having read the books I don’t know if I want to rewatch it to see for myself how awful it is or avoid it and let the movie stay in its essentially unrelated to the books part of my memory where it’s harmless

17

u/Drebinomics 7h ago

It’s a pretty bad movie, but it does kind of work in the context of being a new game plus playthrough from the book story, if you wanna look at it that way.

13

u/Stunning_Fox_7431 7h ago

In support of that, Roland does the Horn of Eld on his belt in the movie

4

u/Consistent-Spell2203 5h ago

It's like if they tried to make Game of Thrones a 90 minute movie.

43

u/FromTheJohn 8h ago

Damn that is pretty sick

21

u/KnotaisRaven 6h ago

I love and hate this. The reload is absolutely incredible looking, Idris looks badass, and the Remington 1858 is my favorite revolver. I hate that I would have to spend a fortune on the modification for the cylinder to swing out like that.

20

u/ConsciousStretch1028 8h ago

One of the few things the movie did right

15

u/Pardybro911 5h ago

Vash the Stampede from Trigun does it the same way multiple times. Always sick.

One of the greatest shows of all time. Love and peace. 🤞🏼

1

u/Pardybro911 4h ago

Stampede was a fun little reimagining if you haven’t caught it.

2

u/OmegaLolrus 3h ago

I will concur with this. I went into Stampede/Stargaze really skeptical. I thought the original was absolutely perfect (and I mean... It is) and this wa completely useless. But after watching Stampede/Stargaze, I realized I can love two things. They're both amazing.

17

u/lemonylol 7h ago

Disappointing as hell movie, but that's just straight up Roland from the books, regardless of how King imagined him.

7

u/Background-Air-7963 7h ago

Curious how Detta would react to a black Roland

6

u/lemonylol 6h ago

Would probably just consider him an Uncle Tom or something

7

u/KumaD-Oso 6h ago

I feel like Timothy Olyphant would’ve made a great Roland.

1

u/Background-Air-7963 4h ago

Timothy Olyphant in 10-15 years channeling Clint Eastwood would be perfect

6

u/Jihelu 6h ago

IIRC Roland had a way of reloading with just one hand? I completely forget though.

4

u/nxcrosis 6h ago

Yeah he would toss the bullets in the air and catch it in one sweep of his gun.

2

u/Jihelu 6h ago

Guy could literally hypnotize people with bullets, the goat

1

u/DeepLock8808 4h ago

Does it specify? I only read the first book, but it was extremely vague, always referring to it as “his trick” or something similar.

1

u/nxcrosis 4h ago

I don't vividly recall from the book but I seem to remember a similar scene in the movie.

4

u/ConvincingVoice 5h ago

I liked it a lot, but then my read it was a go then, there are other worlds than these. Like yup, that’s Roland, that’s the gunslinger, that’s canon - and it also isn’t the Roland in the book, kind of thing.

7

u/MeLlamoDave 4h ago

Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey did a solid job with what they were given, but the Dark Tower works best as a miniseries.

4

u/fatkidking 4h ago

The only good thing about the movie is Roland's cool reloading.

9

u/Relative-Gap-4442 7h ago

Long days and pleasant nights to you, just for the peak reference

3

u/KumaD-Oso 6h ago

Thankee-sai, seems you have not forgotten the face of your father.

2

u/AutomaticMistake 6h ago

Still liked it (I'm yet to read the books, and yes I know I'll likely hate the adaptation after reading)
