We invite everyone to help other users in our Community Support Threads and on our Discord server.
A well-structured and good-looking comment with all necessary information goes a long way in getting someone to help you and makes your question a lot easier to understand.
People find questions & solutions in these threads by searching for the same issue.
If you find an answer or solution to your question or issue please edit your comment to include the answer or solution.
Some questions will not be answered or replied to. As an example: "my game crashes" or "my download speed is slow" is not something you should even really expect an answer to. Troubleshooting and finding the solution to these issues requires a lot more information than simply stating "game doesn't launch", such as detailed information on when the issue started and how you perceive it, screenshots of any errors or the problem itself, crash logs, system specs, etc.
Consider using other things like the Steam Community Forums, an internet search engine, or a different support forum like /r/SteamSupport if no one here can offer any help. Additionally, every game on Steam has its own dedicated Community Forum, and you can also contact Steam Support regarding a specific product. Consider asking your game-specific questions there. Most games also have a dedicated subreddit.
...such as payment & purchasing issues or password & login issues. We can only give advice on how to get in contact with Steam Support.
No one, including Steam Support, can assist with item/trade scams.
/r/Steam is not affiliated with Valve in any way whatsoever.

Welcome to the Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread!
This monthly mega-thread is meant to contain advice, questions, suggestions & generic discussion on what to play or buy in terms of Games & Hardware.
Do you not know what to play? Want a Steam Deck or Steam Machine but unsure which model is best for you? Did you find a niche game that everyone should try? Wondering what GPU you should upgrade to or unsure about the specs of a computer? Do you want to share your unique experiences and learning curves with a piece of hardware? Can't find the perfect survival sim or unsure which 1 RPG out of the thousands available you should buy? Well this is the thread for you.
Now to make this work best and not just be spammed with generic & useless questions such as "What should I play?" or "What should I buy?", please be in-depth in what types of games/hardware you are looking for and why, and when giving advice it would be appreciated if you're more detailed than "I think X is good".
There are too many games to be able to properly suggest something with no background information, also simply commenting a game title and saying you like the game offers no actual value. The same goes for hardware: Saying you're thinking about buying X or you think Y is good with no other information, context as to why, your unique experiences, etc. offers no actual value or information to base a reply on.
Feel free to ask and discuss freely in the comments regarding games and hardware, whether you want advice on what to play, want to give advice to others on what to play, share a hidden gem you found, experiences you have with Steam hardware, or your review of a piece of Steam hardware. Generic discussions & questions about discounts, sales, events, specs is allowed as well. This is not meant to be a restrictive thread within the designated topics that this thread is for, however it is not a support thread nor is it the place to promote any blogs or curator pages or anything else, subreddit rules still apply.

Ordered a left index controller for a partial kit I bought off of Facebook Marketplace, and was genuinely not expecting support to actually do this. Now if only Valve's anti-cheat was anywhere near as good their support...

i have 100$ i want to add but paypal is asking me to add in a card which i don't have (my family helped make the account)
i did research and say people using the "paypal" option and leave the box unchecked for options to pay 4 later (i am paying for full cause i don't want to loan)
before i could do that, should i also cancel automatic payment of paypal first? if not, should i use it for other game sites for steam keys?

So back in 2024 I gifted Atlyss to my girlfriend because we wanted to play it together, and I distinctly remember playing it with her briefly, but awhile back I noticed that in our steam family library, there was only one copy of the game, she should have it in her library but she says she doesn't. Is there anything that could've caused the game to be removed from her library?

Been thinking about challenging myself to play every single game I own on Steam. Not finish them (dear lord), but at the very least give each one a fair shot. Maybe a couple of hours.
I assume that like most of you, I bought way too many games during every Steam sales that I’ve never even launched. 😬
Figured it might be fun to finally see what I’ve been collecting all these years. 😂
I’m expecting (hoping) a few gems, some questionable purchases, and probably a reminder that Past Me had, and still may have 😂, terrible impulse control during Steam sales.
Wish me luck!

I'm the developer of HoloMapper, a projection mapping application on Steam. Users operate the software from one display while projecting to another. Steam Remote Play currently streams both displays, making remote operation difficult. A monitor selection option in Remote Play would greatly improve support for professional multi-monitor workflows.
For clarification, HoloMapper is a Unity application that uses two displays:
- Display 1: Main editor and controls.
- Display 2: Fullscreen projector output.
The actual problem:
Steam Remote Play initially streams Display 1 correctly. However, as soon as the projector output is activated on Display 2, Remote Play switches to capturing both displays side-by-side in a single stream.
This causes the editor to occupy only half of the Steam Link/Steam Deck screen, with the other half wasted on the projector output.
What we need is the ability to stream Display 1 only, while Display 2 continues operating normally on the host computer.
The newer "Primary Display While Streaming" setting doesn't resolve this behavior. We need an explicit option to select which display Remote Play captures, even when an application uses multiple displays simultaneously.

I own several games on steam and today they've all uninstalled themselves without seemingly any reason. I checked the steam/steamapps/common file and didn't find any games located there. Tried downloading a game again and it ended up there so it's not an issue of where the games are being sent. Checked all other steam related files and I can't find the games in there either.
The main issue is all these games are taking up a large portion of space, which cuts my remaining storage in half. The games are classified as "Non-steam games", which shouldn't be the case since Steam is where I'd gotten all of these games from. I have also tried going into Settings>Storage>three dots>Repair Library, only for nothing to happen.
As shown in the images, the games are considered as installed when I check through the windows settings app, but don't exist in Steam. I also cannot uninstall them from the Settings app because of how Steam works, which requires you to do it through the Steam client itself.
Is there nothing else I can do except hope a Steam support agent knows the particular issue I'm having, or will I just have to buy new storage for my pc entirely?
I don't play muchshooters and don't like how there is so much travel on the trigger buttons. Is it possible to make it so that it acts like the shoulder button with minimum travel within steam controller setting?
Think there is some games that harden the triggers for some scene/guns.

I've recently bought a second monitor and made it my main one. now I'm launching nier automata but it's going to my older monitor, which I don't want. is there a setting that I must change so it launches on my main monitor? it's already set as my main video on windows.

I’m a chef, and I’d love to customize my Steam profile to reflect what I do for a living and what I’m passionate about: cooking.
What profile backgrounds, animated backgrounds, or other profile items would you recommend for a cooking or food-related theme? I’d especially love to find something that shows someone preparing food, working in a kitchen, or anything along those lines.
Also, what are some of your personal favorite Steam profile backgrounds, regardless of the theme? I’m curious to see what you guys are using!
