Discussion Can Always Count on Steam Support, lol

Post image

Ordered a left index controller for a partial kit I bought off of Facebook Marketplace, and was genuinely not expecting support to actually do this. Now if only Valve's anti-cheat was anywhere near as good their support...

Steam's support is pretty awesome, but it's also how you asked. I've worked customer support for various companies before and if someone came in with kindness, I'd 100% stretch the rules or find a way to help them. The ones with a shit attitude, sorry bud, 14 day returns means 14 days, and it's been 15 ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So many people don't realize this. I occasionally deal with customers and their quality of service can absolutely change based on attitude.

All we get is constant W’s from Steam. Very cool to see this.

I assune it's an US only thing? The only two times I asked for refunds was when a game was literally unplayable and when a game couldnt launch on my computer. Didnt get refunds.

You’d need to open a ticket and ask Steam support why you didn’t get a refund, they deny based on their 14 day purchase timeframe and 2 hours of playtime but they can deny for other reasons as well. I’d ask them yourself, Steam refunds are certainly not a U.S. only thing. Friends overseas get refunds all the time.

I tried my luck on getting the bundle discount on the L+R controllers for the index but got a 'no'.

Had to purchase them separately for some reason while both are in stock.

I think it's because of individual packaging. I don't believe they have the actual box bundles with both knuckles left and are only selling the individual replacement controllers. Though it would be cool if they applied an additional discount for buying both, since they're out of stock but idk...

You got what you wanted, which is far better than nearly any other company would even think about doing, and you still find a way to bitch about them...

The hell? The company has great aspects and others that aren't the best... VAC is certainly one of those. I just found it to be awesome, and I'm grateful, but I was simply making a comment that I wish that Valve put more effort into supporting/updating VAC to do something about rampant cheating in games like CS2.

To be fair nowadays cheating kits are extremely heinous and the "best" ones basically get into the deepest end of your pc to avoid anticheats. The only way an anticheat can catch those is by working at the same level, ie, invading your computer with the same disgusting level of invasiveness. Most cheaters are dumb as fuck so they don't really care or understand why installing a cheat kit that runs at ring 1 or even kernel level would be a bad idea. So...is already a lost war in a sense. The best thing the could do is rely on reports and footage but...yeah

That's certainly a fair point. I just wish more was evidently done, I suppose. Just over the past couple weeks it's just been a nightmare playing casual on CS. Genuinely had to take a break from it given how bad it was.

I get you. Technically there's hope in AI for developing anti-cheat technology that isn't invasive at the cost of some performance. But we're still a little far from that. First the AI needs to get better at recognizing and filtering anomalies and second it needs to be tweaked so it can run smoothly without causing a hard hit on fps. Oh and it would need to be run by an enterprise not interested in collecting and selling data( Dreaming is free I guess)

If anything AI is going to make anti-Cheat more difficult to maintain.

That's the most likely outcome but I wanted to be optimistic

i just really hope that this generosity from the support never ends. I've never seen such a vhugc company having so many great and helpful people in the background.

Yeah, my steam account got scammed and support doesn't want to help, I'll be going to my bank tomorrow to reverse the fraudulent charges.

Always seeing other people have positive encounters with steam support, but when I tried to refund battlefield 2042 outside their 2 hour policy I got denied.

Ended up going back to PayPal and they forced the refund. Steam support didn’t like that, they disabled PayPal as a payment option and warned me.

That's insane, and kinda sucks. Sorry to hear about that.

I like steam as much as the next guy but also remember that they had to dragged kicking and screaming by a court in Australia to update their refund policy which at the time was 'fuck you'. Haven't always been the good guys and being a virtual monopoly that facade will only last so long.
