Everything Else What’s the coolest or most memorable thing you’ve experienced at a wedding?

I’m curious, what’s something you’ve experienced at a wedding that made you think, “Wow, this is one of the best weddings I’ve ever been to”?

Whether it was live music, a saxophonist, a DJ, unique entertainment, the food, the atmosphere, how the evening flowed, or something completely unexpected!

We’re currently planning our wedding and would love to hear what actually stood out to guests and made the night memorable.

Bonus points if it was something a little different! 😊

Relationships/Family Both my bridesmaids can’t attend, and I’m losing excitement for my wedding.

Just need to vent and maybe get some advice because I’m feeling really defeated about my wedding.

My MOH is pregnant and can’t attend, and now another bridesmaid is pregnant and won’t be able to make it either. Of course I’m happy for them, but I’m honestly heartbroken.

Our guest list is already heavily skewed toward my fiancé’s friends and family. He’s lived in the same city for years, while I’ve moved three times in the past six years. I have a small family and a smaller circle of friends, most of whom would have to fly to Charleston, where flights are around $1,000. Meanwhile, most of his guests can drive. I’m starting to worry that barely anyone from my side will even be there.

To make it harder, the wedding is turning into a $90–100k event. My parents generously contributed $30k, and I’ve personally already put down about $20k in deposits. Most of the financial burden is falling on me.

I feel like I’m spending an insane amount of money on a wedding where I might barely have anyone there for me. It’s making me question whether I even want the wedding anymore, which is heartbreaking because I was so excited about it.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Did you downsize, cancel, or just push through? I’m genuinely at a loss and would love some perspective 😞

Also would smaller weddings be okay? I invited 138 but looking like 80

Everything Else Planning a reception, no ceremony - help?

Basically, we just want a big party to celebrate us getting married but we want the actually getting married part to be just us. I will still be in a wedding dress and he will still be in a suit and I’m hoping guests will arrive dressed appropriately as the event will be in a cute little venue but as far as things like save the dates, do I even need them?

I was thinking of just sending out invites when the time came but I didn’t want people confused as to what they’re walking into or expecting a ceremony when really it’s more of a party? I was thinking of the invites saying something like “Join us for our wedding celebration” and include a details card but I’m not sure if that will be confusing

Relationships/Family Am i wrong for wanting my wedding to be to my fiance and Is liking?

for context, my fiancé and i will be getting married after 3 years of dating and 2 years of living together. As a hispanic woman it’s normally not traditional to live with a man if you’re not married so you can see why my parents were not happy. after constant pressure and long conversations about marriage ny family finally stepped back from trying to pressure us into marriage…now my fiancé and i feel ready to tie the knot but no here’s where the issues start, my fiance and i conversed to christianity after leaving the Catholic Church, my mom was NOT happy about that but that brings one of the wedding issues up, she wants us to have a catholic ceremony, we do not as that is not our faith

she kept saying that my family wouldn’t want to participate if our ceremony is christian, and saying that we probably wouldn’t receive a lot of help financially from any family members since it won’t be a catholic wedding…after a lot of mental manipulation we folded and started looking into the catholic wedding process we began it but now realized this is not want we wanted at all not to mention they literally made you jump thru hoops to have a catholic wedding

another issue is we wanted a smaller wedding 200 guest max, yes i know 200 seems like a lot but for a mexican wedding it’s not much… but my mom decided to take the reigns and start to plan a 400 person wedding at some fancy ranch venue…first of all she’s expecting us to pay for the venue…the venue is close to 10K and that not something we were planning to do let alone spend, like i said small but nice wedding. how do i even begin to tell her she killed all my excitement for this wedding that turned huge. this is not what we wanted at all and now feel obligated to invite everyone to our wedding and spend more then we expected. and these are not the only issues arising :/

sorry if this was all over the place but I just feel since it’s gonna be our wedding we should be the ones being catered to and not us catering to everyone else. does anything by think i’m maybe not being considerate, my family will be helping us pay for the wedding but they are a lot more financially stable then we are and have a bigger budget and we do not hence why we were opting for a smaller wedding. any advice is welcome and appreciated:) and please delete is this is the wrong forum for this story

Everything Else Wedding this Sat, Outdoor Letdown

Wedding is saturday. Its an outdoor ceremony (with tent now) and outdoor reception.

Reception area will have a fire pit, heaters, a covered pavilion with optional sides that come down, a covered bar also with optional sides and a partially minimally covered dance floor surrounded by a rock wall.

The weather every single day around (before and after) the wedding day is beautiful. Low to Mid 70s to highest low 80s. My day is a high of 58 and low of 38. Im in the south.

Ive bought blankets for folks, a week ago I texted people to tell them the weather could go cold or wet and its outdoor. Im asking the venue if there is anyway for us to serve hot drinks to folks, but not expecting a yes this late.

I know this is super not logical.....but ive planned this entire wedding and it all feels like a failure because I grabbed an outdoor only venue. It is a themed place that we really wanted and is special, but boy do I feel like a fuckin failure host and planner. The guilt im feeling is immense and im so concerned my guests will get sick or leave early or resent me for this decision.

Does anyone have the magic words to help me stop feeling like this? My therapy appt isnt until post wedding for a couple weeks >.< anyone had this happen with no inside alternative?

Edit: 3:30pm ceremony, 3:45-9pm cocktail hour and reception.

Tough Times Family dynamics and seats

Feeling really frustrated looking at our seating chart thinking, who is going to get along with who. We are doing a small 50 people ceremony and then having a dinner/drinks reception, nothing crazy just dinner and drinks with our loved ones. You’d think that’d be super simple and chill. But I have essentially 6 parents (steps and non steps), my future family does not speak the same language as my family, and then our friends. Our friends are super easy and chill and I have no doubt they can all get along. It’s our family that I can’t figure out.

I thought this would be easy because it’s not a “real” wedding, but now i’m worried someone is going to draw conclusions based on their seating. I know none of this REALLY matters but i’m about two weeks out and I feel stuck. Maybe everyone can just sit wherever and figure it out.

Thanks for listening to my rant!

Dress/Attire Is this dress too close to white for the MOB? (am i being dramatic)

hopefully a link is okay, i have been struggling with this for awhile now and not sure if its too white. My sister is saying its more of a butter yellow but my partner and MOH say its too close to white. My initial response was kinda a sad “what the heck” moment but also my mom seemed so excited about it. A little time has passed, when she showed it to me she said she hadnt ordered it yet, but with time passing i am wondering if i am being dramatic. a lot of people around me say its too close but im so unsure (and of unsure what to do)

edit: just for reference she told me at first she wanted to get a dress that matched the colours of the wedding (purple out of the purple and green colours we are doing) i thought thats what was going on until we facetimed last week after my first wedding planning app for her to be so excited about the dress she found.

i dont really know how to address it, i have already asked about why she switched up and she said that this colour just matches her skin tone and hair much better. she is really sensitive and sometimes i feel like i cant be honest with her because i dont want to hurt her feelings lol.

Vendors/Venue What's the actual process for booking all the suppliers / venue etc? Do we provisionally book dates and then confirm? In what order?

Question as per title.

Do we book a venue first, then call around photographers until we find one that's available? Do we call every supplier with a selection of possible dates and tally them all up?

So many guides go hard on the nebulous "set a budget, choose a photography style you really vibe with, set your budget" shitck, but what's the actual process of booking everything?

Everything Else Is it too early to ask a friend to be groomsman?

We have our venue secured and we know that there is accommodation for those in the wedding party if they want it. It won’t be till June 2029.

My friend who I would like to ask has been mates with me for 10+ years - although we don’t get to see each other much we are still in touch a lot and I consider him a very close friend. He moved abroad a year ago but I now know he is going to be in my city in a couple of weeks, with no plans to be back next year, and has messaged to meet for a few drinks .

I know it’s still pretty early but I am considering asking him to be a groomsman when he is here so I can do it face to face which I think will be nicer. Because he also lives abroad I know this would give him ample time to plan and save up for the travel costs/ accommodation if he wants to.

But is it still too early/ too much pressure to put on him to ask this soon?

Hair/Makeup Feeling like I picked the wrong hair style. Help?

So I’m torn on how to wear my hair. Intuitively it seems like a low chignon with a couple pieces in front would be the best looks, but my mom and stylist didn’t love that idea because you won’t see the pretty styling of the bun at all from the front. I do agree that it might be nice to look more feminine with my hair flowing a bit in the front, but I also think it might mess with the look of this dress, covering the high neck detail.

What do you think? We ended up trialing out my hair pinned to the side, and I like it…but I don’t know if I love it

Tough Times Pregnant on my wedding day

Just found out I’m pregnant and I’ll be 29 weeks pregnant for my wedding.
I have such conflicting feelings because yes, I’m so excited that our family will start sooner, but I’m also a bit sad because of the vision I had for my wedding.
I had expectations of losing weight and looking a certain way for the day, having an extravagant first dance (I’m a former dancer), and just partying and having the energy to celebrate with my family.
Now all that is kinda taken away-I will most likely have a noticeable bump that even my ball gown won’t be able to cover; we may have to replace the lifts in our dance and maybe make the moves simpler bc of how pregnant I’ll be; and I might not even have the energy and kinda worried that I’ll just be miserable the whole day because I would be so tired.
I’m not wishing for things to be any other way because I would absolutely be devastated if anything happened-so for the brides that were pregnant on their day, how did you feel? Am I alone in feeling this way? How did you cope with these conflicting feelings? Did it even make a difference?

Tough Times Bach overwhelm

Hi just have to vent and see if anyone else felt the same way on their own bach. I was very overwhelmed at times - everyone wants to talk to you at the same time, there's a lot going on, people are telling you what to do, expectations are high for you to have fun. I hit some low points of frustration, and I'm worried it came across to my friends. Overall, I had a really great time and it all went as planned. But I can't get past feeling like I ruined some moments with this feeling of overwhelm. Did anyone else feel this way?

Budget Question Blowing budget already??

So going into wedding planning I had no idea what I was doing. I’ve never gotten married before (lol) and none of my friends are married so I went in pretty blind. Ended up choosing a venue that I thought was in my budget and now that I’m checking other things off the list it feels like I blew a lotttt of money there. The venue fee is fine but they do all catering and bar which are pretty pricey per head. I’ve gone below budget in some areas, like photographer and my dress, but some quotes that I’m getting back are a few hundred above budget. What really pushed me over was hiring my coordinator. I guess when budgeting that just wasn’t an expense I thought of so I didn’t budget it at all, but now I have an extra $3,000 tacked onto my budget. My parents are paying for everything which is so generous, but I just feel awful that I’m going above what they set. My fiancé and I have means to pay for things ourselves, but 1) don’t want that to get out of hand 2) my dad said he doesn’t want me contributing

Any advice here?

Relationships/Family MoB & MoB rant

I’m getting a little tired of wedding planning. my feelings on it ebb and flow.

im so excited to marry my fiancee and continue to build our life together, but the expectations of others and the outside opinions weigh me down.

for reference: both my FMiL and my mom are very strong independent women with lots of opinions. they love to share these whether we ask for them or not.

my fiancée and I are doing a major remodel to our house and currently sleeping in our living room, I’m also taking licensing exams for work so we’re a little busy and spending money like it’s water. So what we want for our wedding is a fun party, nothing too crazy.

my FMiL wants a very fancy party and fancy isn’t really my style and my mom is backing her up. They’re both saying they’re helping but all they do is stress me the heck out. My invites were called too campy, my flowers too hippy, my lack of hor d’oevres would leave guests starving, my idea for the farewell brunch too casual, my 1 tier cutting cake too small (we have sheet cakes in addition to this), and my mountain formal dress code too cowboy, nevermind our venue is in the mountains where it gets to 30 degrees at night all year round. The one thing she did like was my dress and eventually she swallows her pride on these other items.

it’s just a lot more confrontation than I’d like and I’m concerned this is not going to go well in the future. My fiancee stands up for me to her but most of these comments I just bite my tongue on and dont tell my fiancée because he has a tendency to get mad at her and I don’t want more trouble.

the cherry on top was our venue main options which she hated and threw a stink about before backtracking after realizing she was the headache. the worst part is my fiancées dads family owns our venue so she can throw a stink about it. Plus our potential caterer for the farewell brunch is her client. so it’s been a super fun week.

I’ve been trying to involve her because she doesn’t have a daughter but keep feeling like I’m wrestling control for my own wedding from my mother in law and my own mom who just agrees with her most of the time because she never had a big wedding and wants me to have one.

at this point we’re talking about eloping 😂

Vendors/Venue Don’t use WithJoy registry

It’s a scam. Withjoy allows guests to purchase gifts that are out of stock without notifying them and then gives you a credit that can only be used at their shop. So you can’t get the item you want and also can’t withdraw the cash value or make gift card purchases. This happened 5 times before I caught on to what was happening and immediately removed everything from WithJoy and linked to an external registry, which was much better.

Everything is marked up 30+% higher than what you’d pay for the same item elsewhere so you aren’t able to get the true value of the store credit. Very frustrating.

Relationships/Family Nobody will throw me a bachelorette, I'm so sad

I just got so down recently because I realised nobody will throw me a bachelorette, nobody will even think of it or ask. I have a MOH, bridesmaid and bridesman but they don't know eachother. My MOH is my cousin and the other two are a couple and my housemates. They are all extremely busy and besides wearing an outfit I buy for them and standing up the front with me I won't be getting them to do anything else.

It's 4 months until my wedding and I overheard my fiancee talking to his best man and his best man is talking about a bachelor party and getting all the guys together and I just felt this gross jealousy. I wish i had friends like that but I don't I barely even managed to put a bridal party together at all. I feel so sad.

This isn't the first thing to go wrong, my immediate family refuse to attend my wedding so my mum, siblings and nana, my dad wants to but can't without ruining his marriage. So I will be walking down the isle alone, and the people I was once closer to than anyone else in the world won't be there with me. I always wanted my brothers in my bridal party but i will never get to have that now.

I know my negativity is rubbing off on my fiance and it's really affecting him and I feel really bad about that but I don't have anyone else to talk to about it and I don't know how to keep all of these feelings to myself. I just feel so sad.

Why can't I have what others do, why does my situation have to feel so bleak

Decor/DIY Sola Wood flowers

Sola Wood Flowers: Where are the values you advertise to brides when we actually need your help?

I wanted to share my disappointing experience with Sola Wood Flowers, especially for other brides considering ordering from them.

I purchased flowers for my October 3 wedding. Unfortunately, I overlooked the 22-business-day production timeframe, and I fully acknowledge that this was my mistake.

However, what has been incredibly disappointing is how the company has handled everything since.

Sola Wood Flowers markets itself as a company that understands the challenges brides face. They emphasize affordability, taking the stress out of wedding planning, and being dedicated to customer satisfaction.

But what happens when a bride actually needs that understanding?

Planning a wedding is already stressful and expensive. Brides are juggling countless details, deadlines, vendors, and financial decisions. Companies like Sola Wood Flowers specifically appeal to brides by promising to make this process easier and more affordable.

Instead, I found myself spending additional money on replacement flowers, repeatedly emailing customer service, and trying to find any reasonable compromise while preparing for one of the biggest days of my life.

I offered to pay for expedited production. When that wasn't possible, I requested cancellation. When that was declined, I offered to pay for any work already completed.

I even suggested they resell or repurpose the arrangements. I didn't request custom colors. I selected Silver Sage, one of their standard color options. If the arrangements haven't shipped yet, why couldn't they potentially be held for another customer who selects the same design and color?

I understand that there may be operational limitations, but I would have appreciated a genuine effort to explore alternatives rather than repeatedly being told what their policy doesn't allow.

I work in Customer Success myself. I understand policies, production timelines, and the importance of managing customer expectations. I also understand that customer satisfaction isn't just about enforcing policies when everything goes according to plan. It's about how you treat customers when something goes wrong.

I have taken responsibility for my mistake from the beginning. I wasn't asking Sola to take that responsibility away from me. I was asking them to consider a one-time exception and meet me halfway.

My wedding has now passed. My flowers still haven't shipped, and despite multiple requests for management escalation, I have yet to receive confirmation that someone with the authority to make an exception has personally reviewed my situation.

What makes this particularly disappointing is that the very things Sola Wood Flowers advertises—less stress, affordability, understanding brides, and customer satisfaction—are the things I feel were missing from my experience.

Instead of saving money, I spent more. Instead of reducing stress, this added to it. Instead of feeling supported as a bride, I felt like I was talking to a policy rather than a person.

I recognize that I made the original ordering mistake. But I also believe companies have opportunities to demonstrate their values through the way they respond to situations like this.

I wish Sola Wood Flowers had chosen to approach mine differently.

For any brides considering ordering, please pay very close attention to their production timelines and cancellation policies. I genuinely hope your experience is better than mine.

Dress/Attire Recommendations for bridal ateliers (I’m based in Europe)

Hi all, I’m considering having my bridal dress custom made but I have no idea where and what to look for, and also what to avoid. I have asked for a quote at Lovine Bridal for a fair price but the shipping to Europe from Vietnam is a very expensive (200-300€). I found some other ateliers in Ukraine on Etsy, but one of them has really fancy reference images while the review pictures show an inferior level of craftsmanship.

Do you have any recommendations? Or which ones to avoid?

For reference, my dream dress is a mix between this dress https://evalendel.com/de/produkt/illume/ and this dress https://damacouture.de/products/brautkleid-thetis keeping the colour of the second one (not so white as the first one)

I really appreciate your help! 🥰

Local print shops are usually way cheaper than ordering signs online. Foam board at 18×24 looks great and you don't need an expensive frame.

Relationships/Family I feel greatfull

So I have no contact with half my family, the only two I talk to is my sister and brother. My mom was hoping I was never getting married and my father is in prison. Because my siblings had work I don't have them at my wedding today, witch I was fine with they told me in advance they wouldn't make it and I understood completely. Now because I was never aloud to leave much around my mom ( she was stealing my disability money and was afraid if I was gone to long id never come back) so I don't have any friends other then one. I met her because she was dating my mom's friend at the time and she saw through her bs fast. Well I told her I was getting married and since I wasn't expecting anyone to come for my side I told her it wasn't a worry I was just letting her know. She is a struggling single mom, and she scrapped up enough money to drive 12 hours and come to my wedding. I told her she didn't have to and she said " ik but I ain't having u get married without someone there for u".
