I will send more later but I feel so disappointed, There are creases in the fabrics etc, she said it's because I asked for simple... but this looks sloppy to me. She also charged me 6k for the dance floor canopy and the description says "cascading greenery, disco balls and fabric" but it just has fabric. Let me know what you think

thanks

Dress/Attire need help finding my dream green wedding shoes on a time crunch!!

I have a very specific vision for my wedding shoes. I just love green, and I fell in love with the idea of having fun bright olive shoes. Almost everything else I have purchased for the wedding is more budget focused rather than dream-wedding/aesthetic focused, so this has become my one thing I really wanted to make special and feel like a personal touch.

My problem, however, is that I can't find any shoes I like that are still being made, so I am here looking for help. I am not a heels girl, so I need to find a somewhat shorter heel. I have looked non-stop for the last two months. Every time I find something that I like, it is either no longer in production, or the heel is far too high for me to walk down the aisle at my outdoor wedding without falling flat on my face.

Now my first alteration appointment is in just a couple of weeks, and I need my shoes ASAP (or at least I need to know the height of my future shoes so that I can wear the right sized heel to my alteration appointment).

Any shoe brands, listings, or recommendations of any kind would be so appreciated!! Reference photos are some of the shoes that I love and saved as inspiration, all either have too-high heels or are not in production anymore. If anyone reads this and has any type of recommendation for me I would be so grateful! Hopefully this is the right subreddit to post this in, I am not really a reddit user.

Recap/Budget Columbus Ohio, 140 people, ~25k

Just got married this last Saturday, 10/10! (The date and the experience). It really was such a magical day. Our priorities while planning were for everyone to have a good time, for it to look elegant, and to do things the way that we wanted to experience it! It was planned remotely because we live in Georgia, but the groom’s very large family was all still in Ohio. My family all flew in from California. We did DIY a lot of things mostly because I was excited to do that. I did also bake my own wedding cake and a cake for every table (17 tables) because I really wanted to have everyone cut their own cake and try other flavors around the room to mingle and get them out of their seats. It was insanely time consuming but so worth it! Also saved thousands doing it myself 😅
The budget broke down into roughly this: with some things missing I’m sure 😂

Venue: $5,000
Photographer: $2250
Bbq food truck: $2951
Florals: $1700
Drinks: $1900
Linens: $600
Guitarist: $500
Coordinator: $600
Dress: $700
Suit: $800
Rings: $600
Alterations: $900
Cocktail hour food: $700
Photo Booth: $400
Marriage license: $45
Decor etc. $1000

We had his best friend be our officiant so that didn’t cost us anything. We had a bbq food truck for dinner which tasted great and was more affordable, also a fun little touch. We bought all the cocktail hour food and my cousin who is a chef put it all together. His mom and sister put together a large charcuterie grazing table as well. We paid for $1500 in beer, wine, seltzers and had a cash bar for liquor which was great. I made the signage and decor we used for the ceremony. The florist I found offered an option where they provided the flowers and we showed up to assemble the bouquets with the help of an instructor. That was super fun and saved a ton of money.

The little things at the end are what added up and cost a lot, like pressing and dry cleaning things since we traveled with our outfits. Or last minute grocery runs. If we would have planned a little better we could have saved a little more I’m sure.
We did plan to pay for everything but got about $2500 worth of help between our moms.

Things we didn’t do:
-bouquet toss (I did a dedication to my mom instead)
-garter toss
-anniversary dance (we planned to but ended up scrapping it right before because we wanted to start the partayyyy)
-super long ceremony (kept it pretty short, we aren’t religious)
-dollar dance
-shoe game
-tons of decor

What we DID do:
-a first look (1000% recommend, without it we wouldn’t have gotten any good pictures due to rain and time)
-a hand fasting during the ceremony to “tie the knot”
-first dances
-speeches
-Photo Booth for guest book and favors
-a group line dance with the wedding party
-did our grand entrance to my dad playing a sick guitar riff
-changed into cute matching comfy outfits at the end of the night to keep dancing

With our grand entrance, I wanted to enter first before the bridal party. Everyone told us that was different and the DJ said in his 36 years he had never had anyone want to do that. I am SO glad we did though. We were able to see our bridal party’s entrance and celebrate with them as they came in. I would have hated to miss out on all of that. We had a very large wedding party with 9 on each side plus the officiant. They all did something cute as they came in and it was so much fun to be there for that.

Overall everything went really well. The biggest issue was that the coordinator didn’t find our microphone for the ceremony so we didn’t have that or get to use the expensive speakers my husband bought for that. The ceremony seating also got super uneven since no one guided them to sit (a pet peeve of mine that I should have clarified).

So my advice:
-Do what YOU want to do. If there are formalities that you aren’t excited for, don’t do them!! The day truly does go by so fast, don’t waste it on stuff you don’t care about.
-Don’t spend money on extra things that seem cute unless they truly enhance guest experience or your experience.
-Pick a venue that doesn’t need a lot of decor. We didn’t need much cause the venue was already gorgeous.
-pick a venue that in case of rain, you will still be in love with it even if you don’t get to use the outdoor parts of it. I might have chosen a different venue if I thought of it that way. It was still great but I would have wanted a little more space since everyone was stuck inside.
-Pick a photographer that you love! 100000% worth the investment. Our photographer not only took beautiful pictures, but captured the emotions of the day so perfectly. It feels like we are reliving it just by looking at pictures.
-If you do a lot of DIY then make a checklist for what needs to be delegated morning of and where things are and everything that needs to be set up. I really wish I would have done that, probably would have fixed the mic issue.
-If you have a coordinator, make sure they know your pet peeves and preferences. If you want them to ask you questions, tell them that. So many people “didn’t want to bother the bride” and I REALLY wish they would have so things went the way I wanted lol. Or on the flip side, let them know if you don’t want to be bothered. They aren’t mind readers so letting them know what is important to you is crucial.

Something will go wrong, don’t stress. Let the day be what it is and soak in all the love from your partner and the people who show up for you! Money will come and go but those memories will be there forever 🩵

Dress/Attire One tip nobody told me/thought of

Brides-if your dress has a lot of beading or detail around your armpit areas and you’re a stress sweater like me…BODY GLIDE ON YOUR UNDERARMS!!!! take it from me-after a night of dancing and sweating the night away, the CHAFING when I finally took the dress off and went to shower was an awful way to be dragged back into reality!! Trust me, your skin will thank you later for it!!!

Everything Else What’s the purpose of an invitation suite?

Historically, I get it. But with the internet, QR codes, cell phones, wedding websites… why are we paying so much for things guests are going to throw out?

The last three wedding invites I got this year I literally RSVPed on the QR code and threw the rest of the pile of papers away immediately. Save the dates I keep on my fridge like a Christmas card. But the rest isn’t necessary in my brain. What am I missing?

Everything Else Would it be cringey to use a high school musical song for a first dance?

My name is Gabrielle and my fiances name is Troy and high school musical was my favorite movie as a kid. I feel like we need a high school musical reference at our wedding and I was thinking of using “can I have this dance“ from high school musical 3 as our first dance song and using some of the choreography from the movie.
Would this be a cute moment that people that understand the reference would get or would it be cringey? I feel like it’s a less recognizable song since it is from the 3rd movie, and I’ve seen it becoming a popular first dance song in general

Everything Else Wedding is in 10 days. My job has me roped into planning an event that is also in 10 days. I want to scream at these people.

The fact that I won't be present for this (extremely last minute requested) event doesn't really matter to them since I'm still being roped into leading the planning. There are other people whose job it is to carry this out as well. This is all in the midst of other events that keep being thrown my way, in a manner that is so utterly last minute it's impossible to finish.

I have a cranky old coworker who keeps throwing these ideas up, not realizing how long it takes to put on an event and how time constrained we are. She's had attitude every time people remind her A) we don't have the time to execute her fanciful ideas and B) I'm getting married so she needs to stop asking me if I'll be there.

I'm looking for a delicate way to say "I've done what I can, now leave me the FAWK alone". Everything at work is irritating me and I now wish I was taking off the entire week and not just two days before the wedding.

Insert that clip from Nightcrawler where Lou Bloom says "I feel like grabbing you by your ears right now and screaming in your face I'm not fcking interested"

Tough Times Is this wedding set up ok or rude to guests?

We were thinking of just having our wedding ceremony at a chapel (around 40-50 guests,) and inviting everyone to a restaurant after to eat and cut the cake.

We are unfortunately skipping all the traditional wedding things like an engagement party, bachelorette party, honeymoon, first dances, etc due to budget. :(

We would be skipping a traditional reception, and obviously would pay for everyone’s meal. I just feel guilty because almost all of our guests would be from out of town since we don’t live near a lot of family and we don’t have many friends at all.

Should I just skip inviting anyone for away altogether? I’d really love to have everyone there and I’m sad I can’t afford to give them more.

If I did invite them, how would I even word this on the invitation?

Dress/Attire Wedding Dress Shops/ Designer suggestions for the whimsical bride (please help)

LOCATION: DMV area (DC, MD, VA) but open to PA and NY because I am desperate.

I have been having the worst time finding anyone that carries a dress I am looking for remotely.
I have been relentlessly searching places I can go try dresses on I am looking for. I am a non traditional bride. All white/ off white is a no go and I am really looking for colorful floral type dresses.
Every place I’ve called, does not have anything I am looking for and only have all white dresses and maybe 1 or 2 colored options but again, not the vibe that they have (most places have all black, red, etc)

For context in our wedding, we are getting married 5-16- 2027. Our wedding is outdoor/ woods/ nature type of feel, and we are going for a “whimsical, forest fairy, mushroomy type vibe). My fiancé and I got engaged in the middle of a mosh pit in the woods and met 10 yrs ago when we were 18-19 right next to the place we are getting married.

I am aware of the designers flora lane, Claire pettibone, rue de stein (had my dream dress but no where has it). All I want is to be able to try on dresses that fit my ascetic within a 4-5 hour radius and I’m in tears trying to find anywhere that has anything that fits what I want.

Ik I might seem picky, but I have had this dress vision forever, and I just truly want to find a place that even has options to as close to the boho/colorful, whimsical feel I am looking for.

If anyone has any suggestions of stores within a 4-5 hour radius of Washington DC that might carry anything that resembles this aesthetic, please let me know!

Our wedding colors are sage green and lavender, and basically I just want something not poofy, slimmer fit, with colorful floral embellishment. I appreciate anyone’s input/suggestions ❤️ photos below for inspo!

Everything Else Thoughts on no bridal party entrance or bridal party tables?

My fiance and I have a large bridal party. We are sitting at a sweetheart table and agreed that we will seat our bridal party with everyone else. I despise bridal party entrances. I’ve had to do one 3 times and I feel awkward and nervous every time. I think a lot of my friends would feel the same way. My fiancé thinks we should do a bridal party entrance because he feels like if we don’t have them sit together then we’re not honoring them at all. We’re having a Catholic Church ceremony so they’ll be in that. I personally would love to enjoy the wedding after the ceremony and not have to worry about anything. Thoughts?

Tough Times I (35m) and my (31f) fiancee have a wedding coming up but I've been the only one doing the planning and decorating.is this normal?

Like the title says. We got engaged this time last year and planned on getting married early 2027. So far I have been the one who has picked the photographer, venue, church,DJ, photobooth, wedding day and food. All I have asked is for the color theme and decorations and we are only 3 months out and she hasn't locked anything down with style or florists. When I ask all she says is that she has work to deal with and can't find the time. I work too but have been able to do everything else. Growing up I always heard that girls dream of their wedding and I guess I expected her to own and be more involved in it but so far nothing seems to get done unless I ask. She has made the invitations but I had to decided the style. Is this normal? At times it feels like she's not interested? I just want to know if it's normal for the bride to be to be so removed from planning a wedding.

Hair/Makeup I don’t want a makeup artist.

I don’t wear much makeup. I really hate wearing base makeup and I feel like everyone around me is forcing me to have a MUA for my wedding. I know I want to look nice for photos and such, but I literally feel like I want to cry looking at peoples portfolios. It just feels like too much makeup for me and I feel overwhelmed.

Is there anyone else who has sensory issues with makeup or who doesn’t like wearing makeup? How did you deal with makeup on your wedding day?

Vendors/Venue Title: Warning to NH/New England couples: Our experience with Greenhouse on the River in New Boston, NH

My wife and I got married at Greenhouse on the River on October 11th, and I genuinely wish someone had warned us about the management and day-of coordination before we booked.

First, I want to say the venue itself is absolutely gorgeous. We fell in love with it, spent months making nearly all of our wedding decor ourselves, and put an unbelievable amount of time into planning every little detail. Our wedding was still beautiful because of our friends, family, and other vendors, but the experience with Molly and her coordination team was honestly awful.

We paid for setup, breakdown, and day-of coordination. Months AFTER booking, we were told that the setup included in our package would actually take place during our contracted rental hours. We had already planned our 2pm ceremony and sent invitations, so we were told we'd need to pay another $750 ($375/hour for two additional hours) to have everything ready in time.

We questioned why we were paying for setup AND losing rental time to accommodate it. Molly sent multiple lengthy emails defending the charge, explaining how much staffing was required and how much work went into preparing our wedding. We eventually paid it.

And then the actual setup was nowhere near what we'd been promised.

We spent months creating a detailed coordination binder with photos, diagrams, quantities, and instructions for practically everything. We emailed it ahead of time AND delivered a physical copy. The finalization questionnaire we received after our coordination meeting was almost completely blank and literally had our WEDDING DATE WRONG.

Despite having everything written out, they left an entire box of prepared bud vases untouched. We specifically requested ten per table, and approximately four were placed. We'd purchased two additional buckets of flowers from their required florist and had family and friends staying up late preparing arrangements, only for so much of that work and money to go to waste.

The stars weren't hung in the greenhouse, the sweetheart table letters were arranged incorrectly, half our itinerary cards weren't placed, ceremony decorations were incorrectly positioned, candles weren't set up and turned on, and extra lamps weren't even taken out of their boxes.

And after all of Molly's emails about the additional staff needed for setup, when we stopped by during setup, the only people we saw working were Molly and Tammi. I don't know who may have worked at other times, but that certainly raised questions for us.

Honestly, though, the decor is not even what I'm most upset about.

The actual day-of coordination was HORRIBLE.

After cueing us to walk down the aisle, Molly and Tammi seemed to stop coordinating the reception. Our DJ wasn't told dinner was ready so he could call tables, wasn't cued to open the dance floor, and nobody made sure the lights were turned off for dancing. Our PHOTOGRAPHER had to step in.

Nobody told us when it was time to cut the cake. Again, our photographer handled it.

Our cannolis weren't brought out when they should have been because nobody coordinated their preparation and service.

At one point, I actually had to find Tammi and ask why WE, THE BRIDES, kept having to track down the coordinators to get things done.

My mom and maid of honor repeatedly couldn't find either of them throughout the reception. Other people noticed, too. Our photographer and other vendors ended up taking on responsibilities that should have been handled by our coordinators.

I genuinely cannot explain how frustrating it is to spend months planning your wedding, pay professionals to manage the day, and then find yourself doing their jobs during your own reception.

The problems didn't stop there. Our decorations were packed haphazardly with literal trash mixed in, our two approximately $80 bathroom baskets weren't returned, and we had to contact Molly afterward to ask about them.

We'd also been told that because of the heavy rain, their team would load our packed decorations into our rental truck overnight so we could return it by 9am. The NEXT MORNING, they emailed to say everything was still inside the greenhouse and we'd need to load it ourselves. We also received conflicting instructions about where the truck keys were.

And I really need to mention Molly's demeanor, because that was a problem from the beginning. Both people we brought to our coordination meeting independently commented afterward about how unpleasant and unwelcoming she was. She didn't introduce herself or even smile. Throughout planning, we found her communication defensive and dismissive.

You don't have to be bubbly or overly friendly to coordinate weddings, but I don't think expecting basic kindness, professionalism, and actually being available during the event is unreasonable.

What really pushed me over the edge was what happened after the wedding.

I emailed Molly a detailed complaint explaining everything that went wrong. Then I saw the venue post on Instagram about how much attention to detail they put into setting up weddings. I commented that I couldn't disagree more after our experience that weekend.

Shortly afterward, BOTH my wife and I discovered we'd been blocked on Instagram. As of October 15th, we still haven't received a response to the complaint.

We're genuinely considering small claims court over the additional charges and the coordination services we paid for but don't believe were adequately performed. We have photos, emails, and our coordination binder documenting the issues, and I'm including some of the photos here.

I'm sharing this because I would have wanted to know before booking. The greenhouse is beautiful, but that doesn't make up for the stress of having to manage your own wedding when you've paid someone else to do it.

If you're planning a wedding in New Hampshire or New England, please get EVERYTHING about setup hours, staffing, rental time, and coordination responsibilities clarified in writing.

We only get one wedding day. I'm grateful ours was still full of love and wonderful people, but I'm incredibly disappointed that we spent parts of it doing jobs we'd already paid professionals to handle.

Vendors/Venue PSA to brides re The Knot and Zola merger

PSA to American Brides
Please be aware of Private Equity harming the U.S. wedding industry and its impact on your wedding. Today, wedding giant, The Knot, announced its plans to buy its largest competitor, Zola.
The Knot has been facing allegations of fraudulent and deceptive business practices and a monopolistic position in the US Weddings services industry. It has driven up rates on the wedding industry drastically since 2019 under private equity ownership. If this deal with Zola goes through, the consequences may be further pricing pressures on already struggling small businesses and weddings as a whole.
If you would like to support these amazing mom and pop creatives that care passionately about giving you the wedding of your dreams, would you consider signing the industry petition calling on Congress to hold a hearing into the allegations against these massive private equity firms that own and control these wedding platforms? Link to the petition here and you can find out more about the allegations and the class action lawsuit that vendors have brought against the company claiming they were defrauded. The private equity firms are trying to have the class action tossed out, denying these small businesses their constitutional right to their day in court. You can read reports on our website, The Knot Whistleblowers, about the matter as published in outlets such as The New York Post, The New Yorker, Forbes, Newsweek and others and quotes from the company’s own employees detailing what they are doing to harm these small business owners can be found on our website.

Relationships/Family Planning a vow renewal with no family or friends?

Hi, all. My husband and I celebrated our 10 year marriage anniversary last month! We got married quite young (19 and 18) and never had a wedding. I would have loved to have had one, but I have a unique set of circumstances. I do not have any family and I really don’t have any friends either. Just one friend who is also my husband’s friend. I was so afraid of having a wedding and being embarrassed with all the guests being for my husband. I am embarrassed of not having a family, so we just got married at the courthouse.

I have been really sad about never having had a wedding. My husband suggested we do a wedding now, but for a vow renewal since we are obviously married. I still feel very embarrassed by it. I want to have one so bad, but I don’t know how to navigate this honestly. He said we could have a small one with just his parents and siblings or even without them, but that doesn’t feel right either. My husband has a large extended family and I really like them and I wouldn’t want to exclude them. But I don’t know what to do.

Do you think it would be weird? How can I get over the embarrassment of having no guests in attendance for me?

Vendors/Venue Artful, architectural wedding venues? (US + Europe)

• Upvotes

Beginning the hunt for a wedding venue targeting mid 2028! I love artful, design-y spaces, the look of oak wood, glass, cement.. would love a space that feels architecturally interesting. Views of sea/ocean and full buyout possibility for accommodations are a plus. We are based in Northern California and majority of our guests will be traveling from the US (California & NYC). Estimating 100-120 guests, with 150K budget for ideally a 3 day celebration (welcome dinner, wedding day, farewell lunch). Planning to visit a few venues in Portgual this December and maybe a trip to Mallorca next year. Some of the venues at the top of our list are herdade de freixo, aethos ericeira (portugal), neuendorf house (mallorca). Would love any recommendations!

Everything Else Anyone know where to get decent suits for under $100? Need 15 for my groomsmen

I’m getting married in April 2027 and have 15 groomsmen, so I’m trying to find somewhere to get affordable suits without everyone having to spend a ton.
We’re looking for light beige/tan suits, just the jacket and pants, ideally under $100 each. I’ve looked into rentals, but at this point it seems like buying would be cheaper lol.
I’ve come across Alan Dupetit, but wanted to see if anyone has ordered from other websites or knows of any good places.
I’m even open to ordering from overseas if it means getting a better deal.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any recommendations? Just looking for something that looks nice, fits well, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Appreciate any suggestions!

Everything Else Anyone not do a Engagement, Bridal Shower, Bachelorette?

Some context: I grew up in the military and am at minimum 6 hours from any of my friends. I've lived in my current city for 3 years, tried to make a couple of friends locally but man they just ended up being super catty. I have 4 best friends (2 of which are like my big sister and the other two are closer to my age). One of the friends closer to my age can't come to my wedding, the other one is tentative because she had a baby two months ago. So I have 2 gals and am so super grateful they are coming because they are incredibly busy people. My fiance is from the area we are getting married in so even though he also doesn't have a large friend group, there are still alot of people coming from his side.

Sorry for the long backstory but I am realizing as I am 2 and half months out from my wedding that I am really bummed about not being able to have an sort of pre-wedding activity with my friends. I am not a party girl and never ever would expect a whole trip for a bachelorette but I wish I could have maybe a spa day with one of them. I love two-stepping so that is also something I would love to do. Even the bridal shower I never really thought I cared about but now that I am so close to the wedding, I am kinda like "Dang, that would be nice." This might be a comparison that I need to avoid. I think all of my friends that are married had bridal showers and bachelorette trips so I guess I feel like the oddball out a bit but they also are in the town they grew up in so from a logistics perspective, I can't really expect anyone to do anything for me. I guess I am wondering if anyone else found themselves in a similar situation and if so, did you do something on your own maybe with your mom to kinda celebrate a little?

Vendors/Venue Which day of Coordinator would you choose?

Edit: Thanks all!! Moving forward with option B. Appreciate the reassurance.

I’m very conflicted. Which day of coordination option would you choose for a 4-11pm ceremony to reception end?

Wedding is about 75-80 people. Ceremony and reception are at the same venue, ceremony outside reception inside. Decor would need to be set up, communication with some vendors / venue, and coordinate photos during cocktail hours.

Option A: $1580. One person, 8hrs. Option to add additional hours at $200/hr. Smaller family owned business. Most of their reviews are for their photography or dj services, not coordination. Planning and communication starts 90 days out. Recommended by venue, kind of business vibe on initial call but seemed okay.

Option B: $2500. Two people, full day, no time restrictions. Owner operated, been in the business for many years under other companies before starting their own. 30+ reviews, all 5 stars and raving. Planning and communication starts 30 days out. Recommended by photographer, very personable on initial call and proactive in reaching out.

Both include setup and timeline creation, just one is full day and two people with incredible knowledge while the other is a set time and one person with less reviews and would leave cleanup to me. BUT there is a significant saving with one that can be put towards something else.

Just so conflicted. Which would you do?

Hair/Makeup Makeup trial- not sure what to ask for

I’m 51 and wear minimal makeup on the daily (just eyeliner and mascara). When I go out I do more of a full face but still very basic (no real contouring). I want to look like me at my wedding, but prettier. I also do not want to look like geriatric. I’ve tried looking for bridal makeup style pictures for my age since I figure the young and dewey look is out but everything just seems a little too extreme. Any advice on what to tell my MUA when I go?

Everything Else Band, DJ or both?

Looking for other people opinions and experiences!

I want a DJ and he wants a live band.

I was starting to about both? If that’s possible? Start the night with a band and end with a DJ? I just want to make sure we both have fun in the ways we love to dance and listen to music!
