Fantasy Pirate Crew of Ogor Mawtribes
A small crew of 3 slightly converted new Ogors! Might paint more in the future

Hi, everybody! AI slop is unfortunately creeping into this hobby and this community. This is a quick rules update to clarify that AI is not allowed in any form here on r/minipainting.
This includes, but is not limited to:
If AI was used to make it, it's not allowed on r/minipainting.
While the mod team has been able to remove most AI posts shortly after they are made, on the few occasions AI posts were up for a few hours before removal, the comments on those posts from the community have been overwhelmingly unanimous in being anti-AI, so this isn't just the mod team making this ruling without considering the community.
Please see the pinned comment below for an FAQ on this new rule, and if you have a question that is not answered there, please ask and we will do our best to answer! That being said, this is not an invitation to defend or argue for specific use cases of AI within this hobby.
Edit: Please read the stickied FAQ comment before commenting. There are many people asking things that are covered in that comment.
The comment section has grown quite large, but also please take a moment to scroll through it and read the comments before repeating something that may have already been discussed, or at least join in as a reply to an existing comment rather than make a new top level comment with a similar or identical question.

Theme of comp was eldritch horror, found this mini of nylarthotep and thought it would be perfect. Spent probably 20-30 hours on it, speedpaints, regular, airbrushing, every technique i know and some I experimented with for the first time. Winning mini was more of a diorama than a singular mini (allowed in the rules of the competition, that's another topic entirely though), so looking for any ways I can improve for the next one!
EDIT: Thanks everyone for the feedback! It's been great to get great constructive criticism. Unfortunately I've got to get actual work done (gotta pay the bills after all) so I've got to wait to reply to any one else!

My friend commissioned me to paint the heroes and Lich King from his boardgame 🙂 I'm really happy with how they came out!

Painted up a Bioshock themed Callidus Proxy for my Imperial Knight House. Am pretty happy with the results.

Hello! I used to play Warhammer several years ago, but I wasn't much into painting. Now I'm trying to become a better painter. I'm painting Necron Lychguards with a blue color scheme. I am trying to paint the recessed lines on the shields with a bright blue color. I used Vallejo white ink first, then Vallejo fluo blue. But it's a mess every time (see first picture), and I spent a lot of time fixing it for mixed results... (second picture).
I tried it with different levels of dilution and different paintbrushes. Am I doing it the wrong way, or am I just not good enough with my brush yet.

Iron Brat and the Butcher for Gangs of New Orc 🎩🔪🏁 As soon as I saw these miniatures I just knew I had to paint them, so I reached out directly to Gabriele Cardosi who is an absolute legend and sent them all the way to Australia ❤️ Incredibly hand sculpted by Alessio Cisbani 💪🏼

Lots of first for me on this one. First time magnetizing, first time doing sub-assembly, first time using a shade that isn't agrax earthshade.
I've only been painting for about 4 months, and this is probably the most amount of effort I'm putting into a single mini yet. I love the way it's turning out and very hyped to put this beautiful bastard on the DnD table.
If anybody has any tricks or tips to take this to the next level I'd love to hear 'em!
(For those wondering, I'm playing a venge pally goliath)

Wanted a base for a xenos character, so no better choice than a deceased Deathwatch marine. Poor lad

Tried to add a soft tone wash over it, was a bit patchy so i re-applied a base.. should I apply a black wash JUST in the recessed areas instead? Any other tips/recommendations?

My latest completed hero from the cursed city set, I can't wait to finish all the heroes and go full speedpaint on the npc

Not everyone’s favourite sculpt I know, but a great excuse to use the new Vallejo metallics.

I normally paint my Space Marines as Blood Angels but I have had a go at an Ultra Marine for a painting competition at my local gaming store. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out.

I've been kind of stuck in a rut recently, painting sub-par model after model. I think what frustrates me most is the money I pour into it to get results I find subpar. For example, I'm tackling a diorama with these smaller 28mm animals, and they look like someone just squirted paint on them and they have little to no depth; they are fairly flat-surfaced as well, with some detail but not a lot. I've reprimed and tried again, just to still be annoyed. What things do y'all do to try and break outta the funk or come up with new tactics?

Finished my first blight hauler for my Skaven Deathguard.
So happy with how the skin came out on it. Very happy with the armour too. Tried a heat affect on the melta which looks okay.
Still struggling with make the verdigris look right. Does any one have any tips for this?
Some sections look okay but then others just seem to be a pale green blob.
Using the army painter verdigris affect paint heavily thinned with water.

Honestly for push fit minis they weren’t bad to assemble or paint. Had a lot of fun with these guys over several weeks.
Tried out a lot of new stuff and I feel like by the time I got to the last one I had a much better understanding on how to paint power swords. Also my first minis really doing an oil wash and i must say it is just leagues better than acrylic washes.
Any C&C is always welcome!

Finally finished this feathered serpent. It's been sitting on my desk for a while, so it feels good to call it done.
Main challenge was the feathers: keeping the colour transitions smooth without losing the scale texture on the body. Mostly layering and glazes, with a bit of drybrushing on the scales to bring the texture out.
I'd love honest feedback, especially on:
- the feather blends: smooth enough, or too soft?
- contrast: does the head stand out enough as the focal point?
Thanks for looking!

I recently got my Deck of Many Colors and wanted to try using only the colors on the card. I struggle with using other paints beyond my “crutch” paints and recipes. I feel like some of my blends could be improved and that I could punch up the highlights especially on the cape.
