Completed After the grand total of 212 hours, I present to you… Hawaii (II) Mars.

Spread over the course of a month, 212 hours were spent in creating this beautiful aircraft. The Hawaii (II As the first was destroyed) Mars was and still is the most awe worthy piece of engineering. I wanted to convey this in my own ways as well as giving my original Martin mars being the Philippine Mars a sister.

The Martin JRM Mars was a massive, four-engined cargo transport and firefighting flying boat built by the Glenn L. Martin Company during World War II. Only seven units were ever completed, making it one of the largest and rarest Allied flying boats ever operated.

In 1959, the surviving aircraft were slated for demolition, but a consortium of British Columbia timber companies called Forest Industries Flying Tankers (FIFT) bought them.

Forest industries was later bought by Coulson aviation and the Hawaii was refitted with cutting edge avionics flying until 2016 and once more in 2024.

This plane is personally my greatest ever creation and hits home as well having seen it once in action on the field.

So enough of that here’s some stats if anyone is crazy enough to make a 3.5 foot wide plane.

Wood used for the main aircraft: pine so shaping would be easy.

Wing: oak

Tail was cedar and MDF

Floats are oak

Stand is black walnut.

The cost was about 250$ total (not bad!)

And the time spent was summed up by around 100 hours of shaping and sanding and 60 putting it together. The rest was on finishing which took several all nighters.

I hope looking at her brings the same weird feeling of looking at a hunk of wood in the shape of one of the most gorgeous flying boats ever built.

Cheers guys.

It’s time to wrap up before my retirement from making planes.

Your flying boat maker maker,
-nasty

I think this is my fifth finished kit overall and by far the worst fitting. good decals though! i hate clear parts but i love painting figures- calling it done for now but I might eventually add a few passengers on the benches- it’s just been a source of frustration long enough that I want to move on!!

Built fully OOB only modification is the antenna made from stretched sprue. The distressing technique is very fun and easy to get interesting results without spending hours post shading.

Completed 1/350 IJN Nagato built in a clean, museum-style aesthetic

Hi all! Here is my 1/350 IJN Battleship Nagato, completed in about a month and a half.

Unlike heavy-weathering builds, my goal was to reproduce her in a pristine, museum-display quality that highlights the structural beauty of the ship.

The photo-etched details were kept to a essential minimum, using basic handrails and spare generic PE parts from my workshop. I focused heavily on crisp painting and subtle shading to emphasize her presence.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for stopping by.

Completed F-16i Sufa Nozzle

Hi everyone!

I decided to make a separate post to show how the aircraft exhaust nozzle in the ground turned out, and share the final result.

The nozzle itself was bought separately — it's 3D-printed from resin. I can definitely say it was worth every penny; the level of detail is top-notch!

As for the aircraft itself, it will be ready soon, and I’ll be sure to show you. To be honest, I’m getting a bit tired of this build, and my eyes are getting blurry from looking at it. I just want to finish this project as soon as possible.

Thanks for the support, everyone!

Help - General Model recommendation as a gift

Hi, I wondered what some good models (if possible sets that include paint etc.) are that I can gift someone.

He is an absolute beginner (never really built before) and likes German WW2 planes (Messerschmitt, Stuka,..), it should not be more than 30-40 €/$.

So far, I found these but unfortunately I don't have a clue about models, so I thought I ask the experts on this subreddit :)
Thank you!

finished!! took a long time, but I’m happy with it. first german armor, first attempt at airbrushed camo, and first attempt at the hull penetration and heavy battle damage (last pic). right side tracks have been left off, this is going to be a diorama where the shell impact also threw the track and knocked it out. definitely need to improve my rust effects and sponge chipping.

Im looking for a nice model of a modern soyuz spaceship. Im not tremendously picky about the scale, ideally 1:72 or 1:48, im mostly just looking for reasonably high fidelity, but I cant find much. Do any of you have any recomendations?

Completed Airbush Booth Finished

Hello, everyone.

This is the Mk.38 6/1 single barrel forward mount version of an airbrush booth! This was a fun build for me. In the past, I have worn an N95 and have not been concerned about the limited exposure to Vallejo paints. However, more recently I am using more Ammo, Tamiya, and Mr. Color paints as well as various clear coats and wood varnishes.  Also I am using Mr Finisher rattle cans from time to time as well. Definitely needed vapor and gas evacuation.

Materials!

¼ plywood
1 inch pine
6 inch fan
6 inch duct
4 inch duct
White, black, and grey rattle cans
Clear coat spray
LED lights
Silicone sealant and wood filler
Various knobs, clips, and wood decoration

Here are some photos of the assembly. Of course, every modeler knows that a realistic finish involves preshading your subject.

Photos of the booth in situ are there as well. A 1/72 Tomcat my son made is there for scale. Essentially this is a 24x24x18 inch booth with a 358 cfm fan. I do need to put a flap on the right side to cover the filter insert slot, as I was noticing some draw from the side.

Let me know what you think!

Here's a little brick house I made for a 1/72 scale diorama.

It's mainly made of XPS foam, with the windows and door built from plastic sheets and profiles, and the roof tiles made from kraft paper.

Hope you enjoy! The finished diorama is coming soon.

Significant other wanted more art for the house and less models sitting on shelves. Really happy with how this turned out! Recommend Michael’s shadow box frames. Pop the glass out and a great canvas to plop models on!

Help -Technique What's the best way to attach these PE parts for turret railings?

Thumbnail

These are from the Infinimodel PE kit for the Tamiya 1/350 IJN Kagero destroyer.

What's the best way to attach the long and thin railings to the curved surface of the turret? Should I start with them fresh off the sheet, and bend as I glue the attachment points one by one? What's the technique you use?

Thank you!

(The second picture is my progress on the bridge. These PE parts are incredibly difficult but rewarding!)

I need a few tanks for a project, so this afternoon I have bought, built and painted this. It's not perfect, but good enough for the model railway to be fitted to a flat wagon.
