Rules and Pricing guidelines/rules (Updated)

Hello there, fine folks of the Brushforhire community!

For what has been over a year, the model of guidelines and regulations that we have in place has served its purpose. However, its tenure has highlighted in abundance that it requires updating so as to address rising costs, and some areas where the original model failed to address. In addition to the pricing adjustments, there will be several general points pertinent to the amendments as well as some community conduct going forward.

Below we have detailed explanations for the changes moving forward, here is a quick summary of those changes but please continue reading this entire post;

-Pricing guidelines have changed. Please refer to GW pricing for minimum thresholds for quoting GW projects.

.Tabletop Standard=3x RSP.
.Parade Standard=4x RSP.
.Display Standard=5x RSP.
.Recommendations/base minimum for Hourly rates.

-Do not message clients underneath their adverts and encourage them to DM you in the event that they can't be DM'ed. Leave a message simply saying they can't be DM, and message a mod to let us know you cannot send a DM to a client so that we can also reach out via Modmail.

-Be you a newcomer or a longtime community member, please read and adhere to the rules.

-No undercutting.

General updates:

.It has come to our attention that in certain cases flagged for undercutting, the painter(s) have cited that they had done so under the notion that since they charged similar prices onto their friends, there was nothing wrong with that being extended here. Obviously, this cannot and shall not be tolerated here. We are all doing our utmost to be paid fairly and by amount which reflects the wondrous work we do as well as the cost of time that we cannot get back. When you come here and seek to set up in our community, please observe our rules and also understand that the rules/guidelines are there for your benefit and that of your fellow painters.

.Over time, repeat instances transpired where we have had to talk to community members as to numerous manner of infractions, and we would be met with "We didn't know the rules". In the vast majority of cases, these are persons whom have been in the community for several months and have had frequent activity. Ignorance, particularly when the rules are both accessible and visible, makes for hollow justification. kindly read up on those very rules and adhere to them. It saves both you and ourselves much time and effort.

.For painters, if you find yourself unable to get in contact with clients in relation to their posted adverts, please refrain from writing or prompting the clients to contact you under their adverts. It violates the 'DM Sent' only rule. Instead, leave a message simply telling them that they can't be DM'ed (desirably, if one person has already highlighted this, that should be enough. Also contact the Mods and allow us to reach out and let the client know. Please and thank you. .We Mods are volunteers. We take time out of our day as fellow painters to help bring and maintain some semblance of cohesion, standards, and fair play here. I think that both community members and Mods alike have done a tremendous job of just that for the last two years. That said, whilst we fully acknowledge that no one likes to be corrected or told not do something, it does not warrant being belligerent, combative, nor insulting when we come to you and attempt to address any infractions. That kind of behaviour benefits none here, and will only escalate matters to where we have to take appropriate action. Please keep this in mind.

.When it comes to composing quotes for jobs that contain combat patrol boxes and the like, please price the units they contain as though they were sold separately and not as a bundle. Through both lengthy observation and the kind help of community members, we've noticed that this hiccup has caused no small amount of issues with prices not meeting our standards.

Pricing Guidelines:

Below you will find a foundation that we advise you to use for pricing your work. What we aim for is that your quoted prices do not fall below what is to serve as a threshold, and that you then adjust the amount in relation to your quality type, fees, conversation rates, and so on. Again, it is not that they must be exactly at the rates cited, but that they don't fall below it. Feel free to use hourly rates as well, if charging by unit is not how you operate, but must still be at a reasonable livable wage, at the very least.

.Tabletop Standard: Your bog standard paintjob for the purpose of getting models on the table at an expedient pace and low cost. What constitutes this can vary between painters, such as only a few base colours and a shade, but we still recommend that you price/pay 3xRSP as a minimum cost for painting.

.Parade ready/High Quality: A higher quality paintjob that pays more attention to detail, effort, and techniques. Again, this can vary between painters, but it typically encompasses multiple layers, highlighting and edge highlighting, more advance techniques to achieve results, and so on. We recommend that you price/pay 4xRSP as a minimum cost for painting.

.Display Painting: Crown Jewel tier, pride piece, the quality for high end competitions etc. This brand of quality is the most intensive with labour, the most time consuming, and the most demanding of a painter, and should be priced accordingly. We recommend that you price/pay 5xRSP as a minimum cost for painting.

.3D Printed models. Whilst the cost is substantially reduced as a procurement method, it still must be charged as though it were bought at RSP for the purpose of fairly pricing a paintjob.

.Whilst we are aware that GW aren't the only tabletop miniature company in town, they are indisputably the biggest, and their prices should be used when attempting to find some point of parity for pricing units.

.Hourly rates. Much like with charging by units, charging by hourly rates must be set at fair and livable threshold, ideally at a livable wage. As a bar for a minimum, we recommend 18 to 20 USD per hour, with required adjustment for parity with your own currency. Example, 180 to 200kr or 18 to 20 GBP.

.GK and Historical tabletop game jobs are more tricky to price via quantity of units and RSP. It can be achieved in certain cases but is tricky to fit in a uniformed way. Therefore, we advise that these jobs be priced with hourly rates in mind.

Finally, we will be updating/amending the above if and when needed, as well as based on community feedback. We want to do our best to find the best model to protect both clients and painters. Thank for both your time and continued support in making this community what it is.

Take care!

Verified Artist and Rising Artist flair application.

Greetings to you all!

As many of you are aware, /uHoltb80 (Absolute legend, but don't tell him I said that) made a post detailing our plans to introduce a further step of protection in the form of flairs. The response to which has floored us, and far exceeded our expectations in both feedback and support. Thank you. With that aside, the purpose of this post will be to serve as the official date of flair introduction across the board, to inform yourselves and prospective clients of what the flairs denote as well as their prerequisites, and as the medium through which you'll put in your applications.

Firstly, what the flairs indicate;

. Verified Artist: A painter whom possesses this flair has met all of the criteria when evaluated, has a healthy pattern of consistent activity as well as tenure inside and outside of the subreddit (which take into account their external socials), and ultimately has established that they are legitimate.

. Rising Artist: A painter whom possesses this flair has met a decent portion of our requires, and has our backing to be regarded as on the level. However, they are denied fully verified status owing to lacking some parts of the desired criteria. This could be something as innocent and mundane as not having the minimum of one year of Reddit membership, or no socials pertinent to the craft etc. Many newer and or smaller painters may typically fall under this, but that is not be held against them when considering painters for jobs. These persons have been reviewed by Moderators, and therefore provided the aforementioned flair as a sign of trust.

Every few months, at least three, we will come back to those whom were assigned the Rising Artist flair and, determine whether or not they can then be awarded the Verified Artist flair.

Nonetheless, we must still advise potential clients to do their due diligence when considering which painter to hire. Whilst we will happily help you in the event of some transgression, the onus is on you as a client to guard yourself in your financial decisions. We are doing what we can to assist in making an informed choice, keep you as safe as possible, and help this community.

The criteria for Verified Artist will be as follows;

- Reddit Verified email.

-Online portfolio.

-At least one online social (outside of Reddit). The more there are, and the more active they are, the better.

-A duration of Reddit activity (1 year minimum, this is easy to check as you get a "1 year club" achievement )

-No major infractions (Whilst this will not automatically disqualify applicants, the severity of any infractions will be taken into account when evaluating your application.)

In addition, whilst it is not required for your application, one or two reviews from clients can certainly help. Should any applicants not meet the above criteria, but at least a reasonable portion, they will be contacted by us to get a bearing on their situation. After which, they will be provided with the Rising Artist flair. As a further mark of good faith, voice interviews can be arranged to further plead your case (which are to be handled by myself), as we want a healthy measure of accessibility and openness with this great community. Lastly, we come to how the Painters apply for their flair! All you simply have to do is comment under this post with 'Review Me'. We will go through each and every painter that provides that, and evaluate them (Please keep in mind that that will take time). If we require any additional information and or clarification, we will reach out and ask. Anyone whom previously requested review and were denied Verification, and was over three months ago, should resubmit a request.

Thank you for your time and your continued support of the community!

In addendum; we will be look into links on your Reddit account that pertain to your socials and any material to help substantiate your status as a legitimate painter for here. Please be sure to have these on your account and are visible.

USA Would I be able to request a custom piece from someone that can actually paint?

I like warhammer, but not enough to wanna spend $80-100 and a couple small figurines, that I have to do all the work. So I came here wondering if I could “commission” a single fully custom astartes. And when I say fully custom I mean a 3d printed 5ish inch tall figure.
Edit: I have found an artist to make this project, thanks to everyone that showed interest in helping realize this project.

USA [Bay Area, CA] OO Scale Model Train Commission

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello, I am looking for someone with access to a Resin 3D Printer and Painting skills to help me with a project. The model would be a custom Lady model from Thomas and the Magic Railroad, with no face but a smokebox door shell, placed on top of a Hornby Smokey Joe DCC locomotive chassis. I will also pay for the Hornby Smokey Joe DCC locomotive chassis so the shell can be made to fit the locomotive before it is painted. The model comes in pieces in the STL, but unfortunately the smokebox door isn't a separate piece; you'll need to cut it out of the full STL version.

UK Blood bowl team commission

Edit: - I've found an artist for this project, thank you everyone for the interest.

---

I’m looking at commisioning an Underworld Denizens team, (a mix of skaven, goblins and snotlings) for Blood Bowl but rather than using the old goblin models, I thought the new (coming out at some point this autumn) night goblin models look amazing.

The lineup would be:

1x Rat Ogre (https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/shop/blood-bowl-rat-ogre-2026)

6x Skaven (1 gutter runner, 1 thrower, 1 blitzer and 3 linerats) (https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/shop/Blood-Bowl-Skaven-Team-2020)

6x Night Goblin Linemen (https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/3zbmjzgp/the-big-autumn-preview-night-goblins-hit-the-gridiron/)

6x Snotlings (https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/shop/Blood-Bowl-Crud-Creek-Nosepickers-Team-2020)

Obviously some of these models aren’t out yet, so it’s early days, I’m still having a think about colour schemes, as with the mixed team of rats and gobbos, getting the paint scheme right to tie them together is key.

I’m uk based, and my budget is around £200-£250, I’m looking for assembly + painting + basing, and varnishing (as these will be played with).

Canada Looking to hire for prep, assembly & painting of Astolfo garage kit - Canada preferred, not required

Edit: I have found an artist. A big thank you to those that responded!

Hi! I'd like to commission someone to prep, assemble, and paint a garage kit of Astolfo from e2046. This is my first kit, so I'm new to the process and happy to answer questions.

Kit: https://www.e2046.com/p/30820, https://myfigurecollection.net/item/783314
Status: I have it in hand. Unprepped, unpainted, unassembled.
Quantity: 1
Location: BC, Canada. Canadian artists preferred (easier shipping), but I'm open to anyone

Color scheme: pink and white, like the reference images from links.

My most important request: the skirt should be removable, ideally with magnets or another clean method. The other parts can be removable, but that's less important.

Budget: open to quotes. Please include a breakdown if possible (prep/assembly, paint, magnets, shipping).

Timeline: flexible, quality over speed.

Optionally include:

- Examples of past kit work (ideally painted resin)

- Your approach for the removable skirt

- Estimated turnaround

- Payment method and how you handle shipping/insurance

USA Commission for car model!

Hi! I don’t know much about modeling- but I am wanting to gift my boyfriend something for Christmas that I need help with. His favorite car that he had for a long time (before she tragically died) was a silver 2004 Oldsmobile Alero. That old sh*t box was driven til the wheels literally were falling off. I would love to get him a model of this car- but obviously I can’t find one “out of the box”. Does anyone have a recommendation for going about finding someone who could make this for me? Thanks!

USA Cathay Old World

Hey looking for a quote to build and paint a warhammer the old world Cathay battalion box. Gatemasters box and shugengan on great spirit longma.

Everything needs assembled and I’m looking for a base coat as a painting quality level.

Really not sure on price since I’ve never had even one mini commission painted before let alone built and paint an army. So I’m also unsure of the process.

Hey everyone I appreciate the level of support but I am going to keep this to US only, was not expecting this level of engagement.

This is closed

USA looking for printing + painting of a 1/4 scale figure

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

commissioned this and was quoted a little out of my budget so putting some feelers out there - I have the full disassembled model ready, the base is understandably large (1/4 is large as it is); I also have a broken down model for that. This model has two torso's; the idea is to have it be interchangeable, so that is an extra set of pieces that needs to be painted :)

colors are not accurate to what I want; I have further references for that. No timeframe, budget is $650+shipping (and I am open to a higher budget) , I am in NY though and willing to drive within to NJ/PA/CT/what have you surrounding states for pickup (and will give preference to a local artist)

modeler is angel.e.luna

[Looking for Quotes]

Hi! I thought I'd try my hand at miniature painting. I got all the supplies, got the paints, ordered a bunch of mini's...and found that I offiically do not have a steady enough hand to do fine work. To make matters worse, now I've got a backlog of mixed pre-primered wizkids minis and resin prints that are just kinda sitting here. I'm in Phoenix, AZ, and would prefer someone local that I can regularly hand off mini's to and we can avoid shipping. Let me know if I've piqued your interest, shoot me a DM and we can talk details. At the very least, I would appreciate any feedback on how to approach something like this in the future. Im also planning on hitting up some of the LGS's and seeing if I can entice someone in the local space.

USA Looking For Spearhead Commission Painting

Hello everyone! I am looking for someone to commission 1 or 2 spearheads (the ones in the pictures)! I will be providing the models and would like to stay within the USA for shipping purposes. Aside from that, I would want all of the models to be built, primed, painted, based, and varnished well. I have no hard timeline aside from within reason and I have no hard set scheme in mind, so let your creativity run wild! Send me a dm with some examples of your work and we can work together to figure something out! Thanks for listening to me and have a wonderful day!

EDIT: Thank you everyone who offered your services to me! However I will be going with someone in my local area. Thank you all for your time!
