Accidentally dropped my MacBook

I accidentally dropped my MacBook Pro. Luckily the drop wasn’t from high up I guess it was only a few centimeters from the ground. Other than some small dents on the edges, there doesn’t seem to be any other damage and it works fine right now.

I apologize if the pictures aren’t super clear.

Is there anything I should be worried about? Dents are bound to happen at some point right? And I guess this isn’t super major.

Is anybody using skins on their macbook ?

Hi everyone.
I was just wondering if I should get a skin for my MacBook Air M4 15-inch.
Currently I am not using any case or screen lamination/ keyboard protector. Just normal laptop bag. So I was thinking do I need to apply lamination skins on all side from dbrand or somewhere for better protection?

How do I stop my new MacBook charger cable from twisting and forming loops?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have a new Mac, and the braided charger cable keeps twisting and turning into weird loops like in the picture😭

I have tried straightening it out, but it keeps folding back on itself. I am worried the cable might start to break around the folded areas. Is this problematic in the long run? How do I stop the cable from tearing or breaking?

Would appreciate any tips! Thanks!

Will Apple MacBook Pro 14" M5 Pro 1TB/24GB last for 4-5years?

I am starting my university this month in computer science, will Apple MacBook Pro 14" M5 Pro 1TB 24GB 16C GPU 2026 be enough for the next 4-5 years? I know it is not something that you can't tell for sure, but at least if compared for something similar 5 years ago?

It was super hard to get this photo at all so sorry for the poor quality, but all over my screen there’s tiny horizontal lines. My kitten always walks on my keyboard and messes stuff up so i’m wondering if maybe she turned on something in settings idk?? Lmk if you have any clue what this might be. There’s no physical damage i can see on my macbook screen or the outside.

Downgrade MacOS using App Store?

Hi everyone! I am just wondering wether or not I can downgrade my MacOS version using the App Store, because on the App Store it says 'Get MacOS Sequoia' and I would like to downgrade to Sequoia instead of macOS Golden Gate. I don't mind loosing some data, but is it possible with just a click of 'Get'?

Need advice for choosing the size for MacBook air M5

I’m planning to buy MacBook Air M5 but not exactly sure which size to go for.

I prefer it to be more portable and easier to carry and to use outside of the house. Being able to put it on your lap in the car, on a train, wherever.
I need it for work, spreadsheets, outlook, shopify, claude, Canva, etc. and a little bit for my college.
I wouldn’t use it that much when at home. I have a pc with 3 monitors so I’m good.

On the other hand, having a bigger screen is nice. When splitting screen to have 2 different windows, it would be better to have them slightly larger, right?
I also feel like the bigger palm resting area is an advantage as well.
But I’m honestly thinking that the 15” would be a better choice if I didn’t have a pc at home and it would be my only device to work on.

The other difference besides size would be a storage size.
I’m going for the 10-Core GPU option either way but there would be a storage difference.
13” - 1TB storage
15” - 512GB storage
I’m not sure if I would be ever able to fully fill up 512GB but it’s always nice to not worry about freeing up space.

I would appreciate any input, thanks!

Mbp 14’’ va MbA 15’’

I was about to buy a m5 mba 15’’ 24Gb 1Tb. Then I found an offer for a new m5 mbp 14’’ (same configuration, 24Gb/1Tb) for the SAME price.

My biggest concern is portability during work travels (especially in terms of size: 🚆 / ✈️/ small desks). I’ll use it a LOT on bed/couch too both for work and for movies. 1,51kg vs 1,55kg seems like a minimal difference nominally. But the mbp is smaller, so i’d like to get more feedbacks from actual users.

The display is another dilemma. Better quality in the pro, bigger than the 13’’ but here too the difference is not substantial vs the Air 15’’…

I would’ve 100% gone for the air at regular price, but now i’m confused 😵‍💫

MacBook for software development

I am a software engineer and considering to buy a macbook. I don't have previous personal experience for proper specs comparison.

The question is would a macbook pro with:

M5 10core,

24GB ram

1TB

be enough or do I need to look at m5 pro with more cores and/or possibly 32 GB ram?

The max workload would be:

Docker 12-16 containers

K8s 20-30 pods

Thank you for your time in advance.

I am going to attempt to replace my own MacBook screen (I’m aware of the risks).

I would love some advice, based on the picture attached, does this require a full display replacement?

I hear success stories from the Aliexpress replacement screens - would they be practical as a low cost option?

Any help much appreciated

laptop model: Macbook Pro M1 a2338 space grey

MacBook Air M5 giving a much stronger "vibration/humming" sensation when charging than before? Is my charger blown or is it the outlet?

Hey everyone, looking for some expert opinions on a weird charging situation with my 4-month-old MacBook Air.

I know that MacBooks can have that faint, normal "tingle" or surface vibration when you charge them with the default two-prong wall adapter. I've felt it before and it used to be really mild. But today, something completely different happened.

I plugged my Mac into the exact wall socket I always use, and it completely refused to charge. The light on the cable didn't even turn on. I panicked a bit and moved it to a different room.

In the new room, it started charging again and the light came on, but the humming/vibrating sensation under my fingers is way more prominent and intense than it ever was before. Also, if I lightly touch the surface near the keyboard, it makes this very subtle, millisecond-long "zzz" static sound right at the moment of contact. I'm currently using it on a wooden desk.

What's worth thinking about is that this exact setup worked perfectly in my usual wall socket until yesterday. Why would it suddenly refuse to work in that outlet today, and why is the leaking current sensation suddenly feeling way stronger in this new room?

Did a power surge degrade my charger brick internally? Is the wall socket acting up? Or is this still considered "normal" behavior?

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Advice for buying used Macbook Air vs Macbook Pro in 2026

I am a frugal lass who buys used devices and relies on them until they are not-so-useable anymore. My current Macbook Air from early 2015n with 8GB RAM and 128 GB storage has officially moved from being "kind-of-annoying" to "quite frustrating", so finally I concede that it's time for an upgrade!

In trying to figure out the sweet spot for my limited budget and planning for as many years as possible before needing to upgrade again, I'm currently considering a Macbook Air M2 (2022 or 2023?) or Macbook Pro M1 (2021), both at least 16GB/512GB. So...

MY QUESTIONS!

- Would I get as many years out of either machine? The Air is a year (or 2?) newer - will that necessarily translate to another year of life? Is there any difference in terms of longevity between an Air vs Pro model, or is longevity just down to M1 vs M2 and age of the machine??

- Is there a difference between Macbook Air M2 models from 2022 and 2023?

- I saw that Apple might release the next Pro model this fall -- is that likely to have an impact on the price of used Macbooks on the market? (i.e. if I wait just a little longer is there a chance the price of a used Pro M2 or even Air M2 would come down at all?)

The extra power of a Pro isn't necessary, it honestly just comes down to price. This expense is already stressful for me, so if I were to spend an additional $100-$150 for a newer machine it reeeeeeally needs to be worth it.

I mostly use my computer for typical internet/browser stuff - email, browsing, Netflix, etc. - and tend to leave a lot of tabs open at once. Music, photos and videos for me are a mix of local storage, streaming, and cloud storage. No gaming, virtually no photo/video editing (though maybe I'd to a TINY bit of that if I had the ability to), very occasional audio editing. Phone is an Android. I don't want AI built into everything I do so will disable as many of those features as possible. While I don't beat up my laptop, I admittedly don't take the greatest care of it either.

Any input is much appreciated!

Should I replace my MacBook?

I’m absolutely no Mac/Tech expert so please bear with me!!
So I have a 2020 MacBook Air with an Intel i7 and I’ve had it since it was released so around 6.5 years.
I’ve recently started university after a gap year so I haven’t used it much the past year.
The laptop still works absolutely fine but there’s some things that bother me a lot. The battery usually dies within 3-3.5 hours of doing mostly light work (Anki, GoodNotes, Google, etc.) it also gets hot very quickly, gets slow/laggy and blows very loudly or crashes (but that happens rarely)
There’s some programs that don’t work anymore as it isn’t supported by newer MacOS but so far I’ve found ways around it.
I’m thinking about replacing it with the new M5 MacBook Air but honestly still want to stretch it a bit.
Do you guys have any tips to improve the lifespan or can you give me advice whether I should buy a new one?
