Discussion HomeView will only allow CarPlay apps that are specifically for streaming audio or video

Apple quietly updated their CarPlay developer documentation to reference the new HomeView device. It will only support apps focused on streaming audio (e.g., Spotify) or streaming video (e.g., Netflix). It will not support apps for communications (e.g., WhatsApp), food ordering (e.g., DoorDash), or conversational AI (e.g., ChatGPT). Apple is enforcing this by requiring specific CarPlay entitlements for an app to run on the HomeView.

Maybe these restrictions will change down the road—I sure hope so—but flagging it now since folks are considering whether to preorder.

Apple is deliberately blocking the Precision Finding feature through software to push users toward buying the iPhone 17 or newer models.
iPhone 15 and newer feature same U2 chip.
Edit:
The reason they did this and I just learned this from an Apple developer, is that it’s used specifically for Bluetooth 6.0, not UWB.
