Meta I've been banned, why?
Good day everyone!
The mod team has noticed a drastic uptick in insult bot behavior in the sub. I understand reading can be difficult, but of our few rules in place the one that sees the most action is the no personal insults aka Rule 2.
We've been exceedingly lenient with reminders and a dash of warnings. However, the issue persists and pops up in site wide posts that draw in non regular users. Since this is kind of harshing the vibe we're temporarily pausing reminders and warnings and going into straight 7 day bans.
What does personal insult mean?
Any sort of insult directed at the user themselves in response to a comment.
What isn't a personal insult?
Insulting public figures, people not directly related to the conversation thread, etc.
For instance, you can say dems/republicans/breatharianism are idiots. If you're talking to a dem/republican/breatharianism you cannot call them an idiot.
Debate the position or policy, do not disparage the user.

Politics We need this guy in Seattle. San Francisco’s mayor tells CNN’s Dana Bash the city “lost its way” because it “got so entrapped in our progressive values”
Was just in SF for a week and it was so much cleaner and safer than Seattle outside Tenderloin. Even SOMA cleaned up. Didn’t see any tents or addicts for miles and miles of walking downtown SF. The city was vibrant too and retail seemed thriving. I have never felt so carefree as I was in SF last week, meanwhile I’m now constantly on guard walking around downtown Seattle and Belltown. Even in the daytime. It used to be the reverse between SF and Seattle.
Since when did progressivism in Seattle meant being so averse to pragmatic results and maintaining nice public spaces? Shootings daily now, even in Kerry Park this past weekend. Tents now about as bad as peak Covid after years of improving under Harrell. Do progressives not understand their policies are hurting the lower and lower middle class the most? Rich people have the means to leave and live in isolated enclaves like Madison Park and Olympic Manor. The poor have to deal with meth crazed addicts on the bus, in our parks and streets. Mom and pop businesses with razor thin margins have to deal with another broken window and rising insurance premiums. Somehow none of these people count in the progressive worldview. It’s actually cruel at this point.
The Seattle city council and our mayor need to go take a field trip to SF and learn from them. Put the ideology aside and actually deliver for the public.

Government Security check at SeaTac
Went to SeaTac to drop off someone. The lines for security check at all checkpoints were insane. Has it been like this for sometime? Or is it just today?

Business Columbia Bank moving top executives to Arizona, citing Washington taxes
Edit: I would like to extend a warm welcome to today's visitors from r/Seattle! Your thoughtful comments always add so much value to the conversation and are sure to win many hearts and minds.
The exodus of Columbia Bank executives began with CEO Clint Stein, who sold his Auburn home (for $2.45 million in September) to relocate to Arizona permanently. According to The Puget Sound Business Journal, the company said new Washington taxes are costing it approximately $8 million a year, prompting the decision to move most executive roles to Arizona.

Bicycle Is this your stolen bike?
I found this bike ran into the ground near my apartment. It was in rough shape and was left to rot. Im in the process of cleaning it up. As you can see I have a way to go, but it is at least functional now. There is a u-lock locked to the back which makes me wonder if this was stolen. If you have the key to the u-lock it is obviously your bike. Message me! :)

Education ICE arrests man near Seattle elementary school during morning drop-off
Federal immigration agents arrested a man Tuesday morning at a parking lot across the street from an elementary school near Woodland Park where parents were dropping off their children.
Lisa Norris, head of school at KapKa Cooperative Elementary School, said staff members and families were shocked and “horrified” by the arrest — apparently by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement — which occurred in a quiet residential area.
“We all have a lot of awareness that this is happening all over the country, but being faced with it in person, and seeing something so inhumane and the injustice unfolding before our eyes, we felt very helpless,” Norris said.
At around 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, just as school drop-off began, a car pursued by three vehicles pulled into the parking lot at Phinney Avenue North and North 49th Street, just south of Woodland Park. Two of the three cars were unmarked with no license plates, Norris said.
Four agents, all masked but with at least one wearing a vest reading “POLICE ICE,” emerged from the cars, Norris said. They began pounding on the windows of the man’s car, shouting in English and Spanish for the man to show a visa and identification.
Agents eventually smashed the driver-side window, unlocked the door and forcefully removed the man from his car, Norris said. They handcuffed the man against his car and then drove him away in an unmarked vehicle.

Environment Two million invasive green crabs captured along Washington state shorelines - more were trapped in those 12 months than in all previous years combined since 1998
More than 2 million invasive green crabs were captured in Washington state from July 2025 to June 2026, smashing previous records. More European green crabs were trapped in those 12 months than in all previous years combined since the pinchy invaders were first documented in Washington state in 1998.
State and federal agencies spent at least $8 million fighting the European green crab in Washington in the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Between professionals and volunteers, some 500 people in Washington set and check traps targeting the green crabs.
~ A record catch sounds like progress until you notice it doubled. 500 trappers, $8 million, and the warm El Niño winter is still ahead of us.

Meetup A listening ear and company for anyone feeling lonely
I’m deeply saddened by RJ Mitte’s death. If I can make a difference for even one person who’s struggling, I want to.
If you’re feeling lonely, having a hard time mentally, or struggling socially, you’re welcome to reach out. We can talk, you can vent, or we can grab coffee, take a walk, or do something you enjoy. No pressure to be outgoing or pretend you’re okay.
Your age, gender, race, or appearance don’t matter to me. How you’re doing matters. Sometimes having someone listen and
spend time with you can help you feel seen.
I’m in West Seattle and prefer meeting here or around downtown, somewhere public. Feel free to message, even if it’s just “I could use some company.”

Question Best free/cheap Halloween stuff in Seattle?
The Georgetown Morgue costs $42, Halloween themed Candlelight concert is $54 even sitting in the last row.
What are the best things I can do with $25 or less? Even a drink at a super decked out bar.
I would be going by myself, so preferably things that are fine solo. (Last year I went to the Capitol Hill DAR Rainier Chapter House Halloween thing by myself and it was pretty awkward, just groups of people standing around talking - I left after 5 minutes.)
I do know of the free haunted house Comet Lodge, might check that out although could be more geared toward kids.
