Education Where do single straight males go out in public? My milkshake isn’t bringing them to my yard…

Hi! if you can’t tell from the title, I’m a single woman in my 30’s looking for a place that draws straight single men out of their abodes.

A little context. I have done ALL the things. Shuffle dating, online dating, blind dates, trivia single nights, chaotic single nights, underdog sports, bowling and most recently the Pitch Perfect in Eastlake. The Pitch Perfect was wonderfully organized but the men did not show up. One of the organizers shared they invited some of their single male friends and they said “they didn’t need help finding someone”...

I‘ve tried going to the same bar at the same time/day weekly but that has yet to yield results. I just would like to find a place that people go to and speak to more people than the ones they came with. Yes, I know us Seattleites are known for their freeze but there has got to be somewhere.

Where are the straight single men in Seattle?

PLEASE DO NOT SHARE CLICHE ADVICE. I am looking for actionable places/venues/bars. “Not do what you love and love will find you.” or “Your time will come”. All that helps is the person commenting.

*Edit* Wow! The majority of the comments so far have been helpful and solution focused. I wanted to keep the post general because I know I’m not the only woman exhausted by dating apps and looking to make a genuine connection. Thank you for the humor, ideas and camaraderie.

Submerged ancient forests blew my mind.

> Three ancient forests rest on the lake floor, created by massive landslides during a magnitude 7+ earthquake around 900 CE on the Seattle Fault. The trees are preserved in the anoxic deep water and appear to still be standing.

Education The Decade of Decline in Seattle Public Schools

TL;DR: The article argues that Seattle Public Schools spent roughly the last decade prioritizing an equity-focused philosophy that often lowered standards or eliminated advanced opportunities rather than raising struggling students up, and that the results have been declining enrollment, widening racial achievement gaps, and weakened public confidence.

Washington just dropped to No. 31 in education rankings. About a decade ago, we were sitting at No. 20 — nothing special, middle of the road, fine. Now we’re in the bottom half of the country.

...board directors cited concerns that the program does not align with district systems that support all students.

In other words, the SRO was a problem for the kids who wanted to commit crime at the school. We must also consider their needs!

Education Nation’s Report Card reveals 71% of Washington eighth graders were not proficient in math and 69% not proficient in reading

As a resident of WA state, this is extremely concerning. We had one of the best engineering colleges in the country (UW) in our state, and some of the biggest technology companies in the world as well. Yet, our state's educational systems seem to be failing us.

I'm not a parent, but I'd be seething if I was. 3 billion dollars was deployed in 2020/21 for schools in WA, and the average spending went up 2x per student. Yet we have no results!?

From the article:

"In 2020 and 2021, Congress deployed $190 billion to states to aid in school pandemic recovery, with about $3 billion sent to Washington"

and:

"...found that during this same decade of decline, education spending in Washington state essentially doubled to about $20,300 per pupil."

There should be a large scale investigation for what happened with that budget, where the money was spent, and what the desired outcomes vs actual outcomes were. If these questions cannot be answered, administrators and others need to be fired!

Education Best High School Experience in Seattle?

Hi! I’m an international student planning to study in Seattle, and my family and I are currently trying to decide which high school would be the best fit for me. The public schools we’re most interested in are Roosevelt High School and Ballard High School, but we’re also considering private schools such as The Northwest School, and we’re definitely open to other suggestions as well. We’re also hoping for a school that offers a really good overall American high school experience, not just strong academics. We’d really appreciate any opinions or experiences you’d be willing to share, since we’re hoping to understand what each school is actually like from the perspective of people who know them well before making a final decision, literally any type of opinion on the matter would be much appreciated. Thank you so much for any help!

There is a lot wrong with this. It is factually true that males commit most violence in the US. It's not true that white males commit a disproportionate amount of the sins listed here compared to males of different racial groups.

I am no fan of Charlie Kirk and the like. But I have a hard time sympathizing with people offended by that crowd when progressives chose to platform racist, ignorant, maniacs like this.

For the record, he's the 2nd virulent racist openly flaunting this on social media associated with that park project. This woman is one of the key decision makers in that project.
