Delivery drivers in Seattle:
How much can Amazon/Doordash/Instacart drivers make a day in the Seattle area?
I was thinking of working a few days a week.
Is it worth it?
My son is getting married in 1.5 years and I'd like to save some $ money for the rehearsal dinner. 💒
Based on a few negative comments I thought I would update info:
I probably should have just left it at how much $ you can make vs telling everyone why I wanted to $$.
My son hasn’t asked for a thing toward the wedding, and I don’t expect he will. He’s never been one to ask us for anything.
My husband and I are both retired. We could pull money from savings or investments to help, but honestly, I’d rather not dip into what we’ve set aside for retirement.
Thanks in advance!!!

Seattle is super saturated with delivery and uber drivers (I’m guessing because of the high minimum wage). I did it for fun and I would get one or two deliveries in about 4 hours. If he’s going to do delivery or rides, he will be much busier in the suburbs (Burien, auburn, Kent, Bellevue Redmond, etc).

So I did amazon when I first moved up here to make ends meet while looking for work. The pay is whatever, can't support a family on it, and their benefits are laughable. There was a 2,500 dollar sign on bonus if you stayed through the holidays (not sure if it's changed), but I did have fun kind of being an independent contractor and working by myself because I hate people. That said tho as soon as I got that 2,500 dollars I was OUTTA there. If you do go that route just look at it as a temp gig. I was the fastest delivery driver they had and begged me to stay on lol

If I decide to do it, I'll have to find a signing bonus!

Read the contract very carefully, there's usually a minimum employment period to keep that bonus, and if you leave even one day short (whether by quitting or being fired, which they sometimes do specifically to not let you keep the bonus), you have to pay that bonus back. With interest. And legal fees for violation of contract.

I've done amazon flex for 10 years and its ok. Depends where you live and what kind of blocks you get. If its your full-time job you could make $200 a day maybe more. With 3 or 4 hours dedicated you could make an easy $120 per day.

The delivery wage law really screwed up delivery in Seattle. Part time people don't make as much money as before the law. You have to work harder to make the same money and only full time folks really have the time to do that.
You can probably make $10-30/hour depending on when you work. $30 at peak times $10 more likely.

I have no idea but I’m guessing it’s pretty depressingly low when you do the math and figure out your take home pay per day.
Can’t be much over $200, if that, for an 8 hour day.
Do they pay by the package or hourly? Drivers?

100%. Short term cash in your pocket? It’ll do. But to make money you’re driving during peak traffic which is miserable, or overnight which is dangerous. And the toll on your vehicle adds up quick in regard to wear and tear.

Instacart in Seattle is competitive A F (all one has to do is see the peeps parked outside of Costco waiting for a ping).
DoorDash & UberEats is tough to make solid money if you are around apartments.
Straight Uber Driver is give or take $25 (gross) an hour (after you find your way)
The peeps who work the Jimmy John’s next to my job make decent money during lunch as do the domino’s delivery drivers. Sometimes I think it’s better doing the dedicate restaurant delivery so you are doing these random three stop pickups only to do three different addresses with competing food.

depends on where you work. i used to make up to $300 a day doing certain Amazon routes. mainly Amazon Fresh routes. but i don't live in Seattle anymore and Amazon has changed their pay structure so i don't know if thats even possible anymore.
whatever you do it's best that you work within Seattle city limits bc Seattle mandates a minimum wage for gig workers. Also Amazon is forced to pay separate per minute and per mile rates within Seattle city limits only.

I was making $1500-$2000 per week from 2017-2022. I only do Amazon flex once in a while and its not nearly as profitable.

Thank you!
My son did DoorDash during college for spending $ and only did it for a few months. He said the further away a house was the lower the tip (if he got one) at all. I always tip well for deliveries and appreciate the convenience and time savings.

If your son is getting married, and wants some fancy pants shit, then make him doordash and earn it. No reason for you to destroy your car so they can have a money bonfire.

Um. Your son can work for it then.
Usually the type of parent who helps pay for a wedding isnt working a second job to provide the money. If your son was a good child, he wouldnt want his parents breaking their backs to finance a single day event, where the money instantly vanishes.
You can get married in a back yard, or a park, for almost nothing.

In what universe is it ok to just start pointedly criticizing a random person’s family financial decisions about their child’s wedding?
This type of behavior would get you slapped in real life. It’s crazy that people turn into absolute cunts once they become anonymous online.

On the internet it's ok. But I do agree with the sentiment, waste of money. To each their own.

Nah, a lot of people need a wakeup call regarding wedding costs. This is a family who cant afford to help their son. They need to be realistic.

It's actually money for the rehearsal dinner (huge family both sides).
He doesn't know anything about it and hasn't asked for any money and don't expect that he will. 😉0

Rehearsal dinners are typically only for the wedding party not extended family.

just please for the love of all things good in the world, do NOT just block a lane of traffic by putting your flashers on and just stopping. the number of complete idiot delivery drivers I see doing this on a daily basis is gross.
