Vent- SoCal Edison, you can turn the power on now. šŸ˜‰

We’ve had WAY worse Santa Ana’s than this over the years, and did they turn the power off? Nope. Should they have? Maybe.

All I know is there is barely a breeze outside and the food in my fridge/freezer is getting warmer by the hour.

How about we apply some common sense and turn the power OFF when there are 80+mph winds in Altadena, and leave it ON when we have a minor wind event. This feels like a lot to ask.

Obviously I’d rather have no power than no house, just asking for a little balance.

Job search lasting forever…advice or tips?

I was laid off middle of last year and have been looking for work since then. I slowed down a bit while I finished my MBA earlier this year. I never had trouble getting a job before I lost my previous job (small tech startup). Now, I get constant no’s. I’m exhausted. I run every single thing through AI to make sure it will all pass ATS, that there aren’t any mistakes, etc. I tailor each resume and cover letter to the job I’m applying for. I’ve created work samples and a portfolio site. I will put tiny little details from the deepest depths of their websites or socials to show I’ve done research.

I’m going insane! I need a job so bad. I need health insurance. My husband is a vet and I need to help support him too and he’s getting tired of hearing ā€œI’m still lookingā€¦ā€

I KNOW I’m not alone in this but it’s making me stressed as hell and not sure what to do?? I started with jobs I obviously would want to further my career, but I have been applying to literally anything now. I got turned down by a GM job and a part-time admin job…that I don’t even want but I’m desperate!

I guess can anyone give tips or advice, something I’m missing? Better place to find jobs? I have an agent scan every morning for jobs that are good fits and then I search myself on BuiltIn, Handshake (from when I was in graduate school), LinkedIn, Indeed, general google searches and just going to companies sites that I’m interested in.

Concerns about current SSFL demolition.

Hi there. Does anyone have any information on the current demolition and clean up that Boeing is currently doing at the SSFL site? I’m hearing that they are demolishing radioactive buildings during Santa Ana winds with little to no oversight. There is a lot of information circulating and I’m just trying to get the facts. Here is a link to the video that got me curious. I’m trying to understand why they are doing this project now and who is overseeing the radiation contamination.

My partner and I will be in from out of town and are hoping to go out somewhere to watch the Angel City/Summit NWSL match.

Are there any bars that consistently have women's soccer on when theybare playing?

Thank you!

Networking Meetup Groups for People in Their 20s & 30s

(25F) Hi everyone! Just trying to gauge interest if I started a meetup group for people in their 20s and 30s who are trying to expand their network.

The economy is changing so much because of AI, the job market is hard, and it’s difficult to make friends as a young-ish person in Thousand Oaks. So thought I’d ask :) personally, I am currently in marketing and would love to connect with others from different professional areas to learn more about what is out there.

People who complain about Thousand Oaks being boring

Quite frankly as someone who used to live there as a kid, I could care less if college students are bored living there. I'm at the age where I could care less about night life (not that I ever did when I was younger) and appreciate some peace and quiet.

Any job leads?

Hello! I’m disabled and working part-time as a preschool teacher. It is very physically and emotionally taxing and I can’t work any more than I am now. I would love to transition into a different role. My dream job would be doing data entry or something similar and I believe I could do that full time or close to it. I have had a little side gig (only 3-4x per year) doing data entry/bookkeeping for 5+ years so I definitely have experience. Despite my [invisible] disabilities, I am extremely reliable and actually hate ever missing work, which is only when I’m very sick and contagious. I feel kind of vulnerable asking, but my mom always says ā€œIf you don’t ask, you don’t get.ā€ If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. I appreciate it.

Looking for entry level frontdesk job/going for CPA.

Hello. For brief context I was a software engineer for a while, lost work, have been unable to find work for a couple years and I am now pivoting to getting my Masters in Accounting (starting fall 2027; online). Following that my CPA.

I have very little experience with accounting; But a lot with basic front-desk work (Microsoft office suite; Had to use that a lot when I was new at my old job).

I'm 24 (Just turned 24 yesterday), I'm really struggling to find any work. I'm a very hard worker and I am willing to do whatever it takes to be successful. Currently thats consisting of the online coursework I'm taking to familiarize myself with accounting in general.

Does anyone know of any local offices that have front desk positions that would be good for accounting? (Ideally an accounting firm; Somewhere I can get that early work experience that will help me get a full-time position once I have my CPA). Thank you.

Los Angeles County reports first suspected rabid raccoon case since 1973

"The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health says it is investigating the discovery of a rabies-positive raccoon in the backyard of a home in the Westlake Village area.

The last known confirmed rabid raccoon in Los Angeles County was detected in 1973, health officials said, when the skunk strain of rabies was still present in the county. That strain has not been detected in L.A. County since 1979, health officials say.

The raccoon found in Westlake Village reportedly appeared sick but was not aggressive towards people.

One dog that was up to date on its rabies vaccine may have been exposed to the raccoon, health officials say. The dog is under quarantine and is 'doing well.'

Four people at a worksite may have also been exposed to the raccoon and are receiving recommended follow-up for rabies post-exposure preventative care.

The rabies variant the raccoon was infected with has not yet been determined. Public Health is awaiting variant testing, which can take several weeks.

'Based on current knowledge of rabies occurrence in Los Angeles County, it is likely this raccoon was infected with rabies from a bat,' health officials said.

Rabies remains a public health concern world wide. While it’s preventable, it causes tens of thousands of human deaths globally each year, with most cases linked to exposure to dogs in counties where the dog strain of the variant is still present.

The dog strain of rabies was eradicated in the United States through routine vaccination of pets. However, other strains of rabies continue to circulate in wildlife, including bats.

All strains can infect any mammal and cause disease, health officials warn.

Rabies is a nearly 100% fatal viral disease in people and animals caused by the rabies virus. It’s most commonly transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected animal, or when saliva from a rabid animal comes into contact with an open wound or mucous membranes such as the eyes, nose or mouth.

Symptoms include, in people, initially fever, weakness, and headache. It progresses to a tingling sensation, anxiety, agitation, abnormal behavior, hallucinations, difficulty swallowing, coma, then death.

In animals, symptoms include vomiting, respiratory distress before progressing into neurologic signs – circling, difficulties walking, behavior change, aggression, paralysis, hydrophobia (fear of water), death." - KTLA 5 News
