Was out walking my dog when I found a literal bag of free weed. Hundreds of dollars of weed just out on the sidewalk...

Obvs I didn't take it, because I'm too scared of fenty, but still, crazy.

Blessings on your sobriety friend. 🙏

Edit: for everyone asking, that shit is long gone. lol

Fire Fire risk tomorrow and Friday

Post image
149 Upvotes

Per Meteorologist Chris Nunley

“DANGEROUS FIRE RISK THURSDAY AND FRIDAY🚨🔥across Southern California, Santa Ana winds will strengthen rapidly Thursday morning into the early afternoon as high pressure builds across the Intermountain West. Widespread east to northeast winds of 15-25 mph are expected, with humidity levels dropping as low as 10%. The greatest concern is across southeastern Ventura County and western Los Angeles County, where sustained winds of 20-30 mph and gusts of 40-50 mph could combine with extremely dry vegetation to produce extreme fire weather conditions. High fire weather conditions will also extend into parts of San Luis Obispo County.

Farther north, central and northern California will also see weather concerns across the Sierra Nevada foothills, Sacramento Valley, Napa Valley, and nearby coastal ranges. Gusty offshore winds, above-normal temperatures, and extremely low humidity will increase the potential for rapid wildfire growth. Winds of 10-15 mph, locally 20-25 mph in favored corridors, are expected, while afternoon humidity could fall to 10-15%. Some locations may experience poor overnight humidity recovery, allowing vegetation to remain exceptionally dry.

Any wildfire that develops under these conditions could spread quickly, particularly in wind-prone valleys, foothills, and mountain communities. Recent rainfall in parts of Southern California does not eliminate the fire danger, especially as strengthening offshore winds accelerate drying.

Residents across California should remain alert for Red Flag Warnings, prepare for possible power shutoffs, avoid outdoor activities that could produce sparks, and have an evacuation plan ready🚨🔥”

Discussion USPS and Ballot Non-Delivery

I wanted to share my experience, in case it helps anyone else. I’m a permanent vote-by-mail voter, at the same address for 10 years, and I get ballot status text alerts. I got a text saying my ballot was mailed to me October 1. Two other household members have the same profile and received their ballots. I did not. I called LA County Registrar to ask about options and learned a few important things:

  1. USPS marked my ballot as undeliverable and returned it to the county. This has never happened

    to me

  2. before and there have been zero changes to my registration or address. Everything in my LA Registrar records are correct as listed. Two other voters at this address received their ballots. So this is a USPS issue. I already distrust how the current Administration is trying to use USPS to subvert voting so I have a LOT of side eye about this.

  3. Registrar gave me my voter ID and confirmed that I can view my ballot online and either print it off (with a special affidavit page and signature) and put it in a drop box OR vote in person at any LA County voting center, starting Oct 24. It will not be a provisional ballot. I won’t have issues voting in person.

  4. The registrar actually had a real person answer my questions with less than a minute of hold time. It’s a great resource for anyone experiencing voting, um, quirks this year. (800) 815-2666 - Option 2, Then Speak with Representative. Easy and fast, if you can’t find what you need on lavote.gov

Make sure you can vote! You can register until October 19! You can do early voting starting October 24! Sign up for text message ballot tracking to confirm your ballot was mailed to you and then actually counted! Use a ballot drop box and not USPS! Ask for help early if you need it to sort out issues, ID a drop box, or get a ride to a voting location!

Question Driver cancelled our ride from LAX - options for pickup with car seat?

Title says it all. Anyone been through this or know a service that isn't $400?

Edit; Our driver pulled through and arranged a ride. Lucky to have him. 😊

Edit2: thank you all - such a helpful community. I had a few valid options for backups.

Any LA County librarians in this sub? Did any of your branches get a restock of the hello kitty library cards? Not sure if the restocks were a rumor or if I’m being hopeful. TIA!

Here's some photos from the new terminal at BUR. Overall a great improvement over the old terminal. Beware that there's little to no food options at the moment but I'm sure anyone that frequents BUR is used to not buying the overpriced food as it is. None of the restaurants are open yet. Starbucks was still setting up their kiosk.

The road grid layout of La Cresenta

Maybe belongs in r/crappydesign too. Diagonal E-W streets and straight N-S streets. Looks weird on a map, like someone cropped an image out of proportion. Why was it designed that way? Then in pic 2 if you zoom in, the housing layout is all willy-nilly, some houses built at a slant to the road, others not. Edit in title spelling: la cresCenta
