News American citizen children illegally detained by ICE on the Avenue in Ventura

It was later confirmed by community defense organizers that the parents and children were not taken into custody as they were found to be American citizens after they had been detained. A likely traumatizing event for all the children involved and the family.

HSI is currently conducting a huge surge in California until the midterms if you would like to get involved or learn your rights I would recommend checking out and getting in contact with organizations like VC Defensa or 805 Undocufund or better yet talk to your neighbors get and organized.

Need help with mistaken identity initiated by Ventura Court

I will be visiting Ventura courthouse for the 2nd time regarding this issue very soon. I got a letter from FTB initiated by Ventura superior for debt that belongs to an individual with my name except we have a different middle name , same middle initial. It’s regarding a dui case that is 10 years old when I was a minor at the time and was not me. The person I spoke to at the courthouse told me to contact FTB who is garnishing my wages. The FTB told me that the court needs to correct the issue on their end and that they only send the letters.

Does anyone know who I can escalate this to at the court house or how to get this resolved asap? Everyone keeps pointing the finger at each other and I’m at a loss

Urgent: Looking for Temporary Foster/Home for My Two Bonded Cats in Oxnard/ Surrounding Area (3–4 Months)

Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out because I’m in a really difficult situation and hoping someone here might be able to help or point me in the right direction.
My partner and I have recently separated, and unfortunately, I have to leave the Netherlands and return to the United States sooner than I anticipated. Because of the circumstances, I’m unable to bring my two cats with me to my brothers house in Oxnard because he is highly allergic, and I’m desperately trying to find a safe, loving temporary home for them while I get back on my feet and secure housing of my own.
My cats are bonded, so I really need to find someone who can keep them together. They’re incredibly important to me, and giving them up permanently is not what I want. My goal is to reunite with them as soon as I’m in a position to bring them home.
I know this is a big ask, and I completely understand that taking in two cats is a commitment. I’m not expecting anyone to do this for free, and I’m happy to discuss reasonable arrangements and provide information about their personalities, routines, and care needs.
If you know of a reputable temporary fostering program, a rescue organization that helps people experiencing housing transitions, or someone who might be willing to help, I would be incredibly grateful for any leads.
I’m working against a pretty tight timeline and am hoping to find a safe arrangement within the next week or two.
This has been an incredibly stressful and emotional situation, and I’m just trying to make sure my cats are safe and cared for while I navigate everything else. Any advice, contacts, or leads would genuinely meann a lot to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Politics Steve Bennett owns up to $1 Million in Nvidia Stock while we residents fight off data centers and deal with increasingly higher cost of living

With all the controversy surrounding AI data centers, rising electricity bills, and water consumption in Ventura County, I think more people need to look at Assemblymember Steve Bennett’s financial disclosures.
According to his publicly filed 2025 Form 700, Bennett reported:
$100,001–$1 million in Nvidia stock.
Additional investments in Astera Labs, Oracle, Snowflake, Apple, and Google.
Over $10,000 in sponsored travel to Norway, paid for by the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy.
Nearly $1,900 in travel payments from a technology advocacy foundation.
These are publicly disclosed financial interests, not allegations of illegal activity. But they raise legitimate questions about potential conflicts of interest.
Bennett helps make decisions on policies affecting energy, technology, and environmental regulation. Should someone in that position hold significant personal investments in companies connected to those industries?
I think Bennett needs to publicly address these conflicts and divest from individual AI and technology stocks, or explain what safeguards prevent his financial interests from influencing his decisions.
I’ve attached his actual Form 700. See pages 2–3 for investments and 8–9 for sponsored travel.
What do you think? Should elected officials be required to divest from industries they help regulate, or is financial disclosure enough?

Sewcial Time at Tigerowl for people who like to sew!

Are you a sewist, seamstress, sewer, or crafty person? I have a group on Meetup with 33 members: Ventura Sewists, and we have THREE more spots available for our Sewcial Time! hangout this Wed Oct 14 6-8:30pm at Tigerowl on Main in Ventura. Free, machines provided at the space, just bring your own fabric/materials. If you're interested, join me over on Meetup! It's the best place to RSVP, but you can comment or DM here instead if needed. Note there's only space for 10 people.

ALSO NOTE that if you have a sewing machine that needs service, you can drop it there during the event and Tom Jenson will be there Friday to repair or maintain machines!

More info: Ventura Sewists is for people who like to sew: clothing, home decor, and fun stuff -- and want to sew together! This group can provide support, but we do not have a sewing teacher at the helm, so help with sewing or sewing machines will be ad hoc, and other group members may share their knowledge. Meeting places will shift and change based on members’ needs.

Sewing groups often seem to be made for women. Here, though, EVERYONE is welcome no matter your gender identity, background, disability, etc. Age is the only factor: Ages 18-108 are welcome. Teens under 18 are welcome with a parent, caregiver, or adult companion. And we will aim to meet at ADA-compliant and accessible places.

Candidate for Ventura County Superintendent of Schools Maggie Marschner is supported by Move The Needle PAC, a far-right PAC promoting extreme MAGA ideology. This MAGA agenda does NOT serve the community and far-right ideology doesn’t belong in our County schools. The filings on Netfile let you FOLLOW THE MONEY…
