Seeking gay, bi, and queer+ men who use GLP-1s for weight loss for an interview study
Hi everyone! I'm a PhD candidate at UNC-Chapel Hill. I'm studying why gay, bi, and queer+ men use, or want to use, GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound to lose weight for appearance or body image reasons. I’m looking for people willing to take part in a confidential, one-on-one virtual interview about their motivations, decisions, and experiences using a GLP-1 medication to lose weight, at least partly for cosmetic reasons.
You may be eligible if you:
• Are 18 or older
• Identify as a cisgender man who is gay, bisexual, queer, or otherwise attracted to men
• Live in the United States and speak English
• Currently use a prescription GLP-1 medication for weight loss, OR are not using one yet but are considering starting within the next month
• Are motivated, at least in part, by wanting to change, improve, or maintain your appearance (i.e. cosmetic reasons)
What you'll do: First, complete a short online screening survey (about 3 to 5 minutes). If eligible, you'll schedule and complete one private, one-on-one interview lasting about 75 to 90 minutes. We'll talk about body image, weight loss behaviors, and your thoughts and experiences with GLP-1 medications. You can skip any question, go off the record, or stop at any time. Interviews are audio recorded, and you'll choose a pseudonym so your name is not connected to what you share.
Where: The study takes place entirely online. The interview is conducted over Zoom, so you can participate from any private location you choose.
Compensation: You will receive $30 for completing the interview.
Participation is completely voluntary. To see if you're eligible, complete the screening survey here: go.unc.edu/glp1use
