Advice Received My fiance frequently "messes up" but it's not cute and funny anymore

1.6k Upvotes

I suggested couples counseling but I worry this is just something I have to learn to accept, or accept it could be a deal breaker. Below is how our day went today. But it's like this all the time, with so many tasks. I thought it was cute and funny at first. Oh, he's so frazzled, he just needs a little help! But now it's gotten to the point where I feel like it's affecting trust. I feel like I cannot trust him or comfortably offload tasks to him. I think that's a crucial disconnect in a relationship and I'm stressed...

Today, we're getting home from work where we got $400 from coworkers for a wedding gift (important for next paragraph). I had our lunches with me in a plastic bag. He offers to carry it, so I hand it to him. He doesn't grab it by the loops or in a secure way - he just grabs the part closest to him which is a single strap of the plastic bag. I know if I let go, it'll fall, and he has cloth seats so I really don't wanna clean that up. I hold on and ask him to grab both straps. He does so. This happens EVERY TIME he grabs a plastic bag. It's become routine. I can't stand it. I go to ask him why and he interrupted me and said "I know I know I grabbed it wrong I realized." No... You didn't realize... I had to tell you to grab it right.

I tell myself, it's small. It's just a bag. Move on. He gets out of the car. He starts mumbling to himself. I close my door but it doesn't close all the way. I realize it's locked. I say hey, unlock the door, I didn't close it hard enough. He says one second. He's saying things I can't hear. I say what?. No response. I slam my door with my hip and say "it's all good I closed the door". He says "I locked the keys in the car what do I do?". Like c'mon... You seriously couldn't have told me that when I had the door partially open!?!? He had to pay $375 for a locksmith. There goes the wedding money from coworkers.

We finally get inside. But our dog is out of his crate and has eaten the half eaten breakfast my fiance left out on the table. For context, he does the AM dog chores and I do the PM ones. I don't blame my fiance for leaving the crate door open, we have started taking our dog to day care in the AM so he may have just fallen out of the routine. But the food on the table and the combination of it all was frustrating.

I walk the dog to decompress. I come back, feed him (and us) dinner, and the dog starts having some acid reflux. I ask my fiance to give the dog his meds. He opens the container and spills all the pills onto the floor. Then realizes the floor is wet from ice cubes that fell out of the freezer. So the pills are a total loss and we'll have to get a refill. It's only $20 but it's still frustrating. Again compounded with everything else.

We start working on a wedding DIY. He wants to print out our wedding crossword on this nice paper he bought (with his new cricut machine, he's a crafting fan). He prints all 32 copies in one go. But the printer settings were wrong, so they're all misaligned and blurry. Well he ruined so much paper that he doesn't have enough left to re do it, and has to get regular cardstock from staples. More wasted money.

I just don't know what to do. I've never had someone mess up this much. I never thought it would matter. What do I do?

Edit: we're not having kids fyi

Should I let my dad use my inheritance to pay for the medical stuff my half sibling needs?

My mom died when I was 7. She left me a large inheritance that she inherited from her grandmother who died a few weeks before I was born. My grandparents are the people who protect my inheritance even though my mom and dad were married and my dad expected he would be the one to take care of everything. He was hurt and my mom left him a letter explaining why she chose that and it hurt him even more. I don't know what the letter said though.

I was 10 when my dad remarried and I was 11 and 12 when my two half siblings were born. One of my half siblings has a lot of medical stuff. They have to be fed through a tube because their stomach is paralyzed and they have issues with other organs. Their "food" is expensive as hell and my dad and their mom have struggled to afford that because insurance does not cover it. They also have other medical expenses and they get a lot of help there because of Medicaid but it's been hard. Since March they have struggled to come up with a way to pay for the food each week. My dad knows how much I inherited from mom and he wanted to use the money to help pay for at least a while of the food so that they could figure stuff out. I'd never get the money back. But even still I freaked when he mentioned it and I told him no way. He got mad and yelled that I am talking about my half sibling's life here and how they need this food and everything won't be so good if I keep it all.

My grandparents refused to let him access the inheritance because it wasn't being spent on saving my life. He asked attorneys all over our state if he could fight it and he can't. He raged at mom while reading the letter she wrote to him when she made her decision and he raged at me for being unwilling. Then his wife tried to guilt me into it by going into detail about all the medical stuff. She tried to say my mom would want me to do it and I told her my mom would only want it to be used for me which she didn't like to hear.

Things got really intense over the summer and my dad agreed I should move in with my grandparents because the daily fights were bad and my half siblings were hearing everything we were saying. He also said he couldn't stand to look at me when I could do something so good for everyone and I refuse to because I want to be selfish like my mom was.

The last time we talked was last week and he broke down over the phone about everything. He told me how disappointed he was in me and how he didn't understand my refusal to do this when I have so much money to offer. He said even half would be a huge help for a few months.

It left me wondering if I should even though I don't want to.

I saw my 9yr old sister's search history.

I was trying to log out of my email on her iPad, and I accidentally opened the google tabs section. I saw "Man kissing, girl butt" as an open tab and "Man touching girl boobs". I know these are her because it is obvious that it was told using the voice to text thing since she's a bit dyslexic, and after a lot of interrogation she also admitted to searching it up. I don't know what to do. I know it is canon, as even I have had a terrible porn addiction (which started like this and went much worse) and I don't want her to experience that because the guilt and disgust I felt was unfathomable. I don't know if I should tell my parents about it, and I don't know whether I should impose restrictions on her iPad. Can somebody please help me out? I don't want her to end up having an addiction that could ruin her childhood the way it did mine.

Advice Received Meeting with HORRIBLE smelling person tomorrow

I’m not going to give specific details on my job because they’re not relevant, but tomorrow I have an appointment with someone who smells absolutely horrible. I am not trying to be mean or judgmental, they seem like a kind person.

But it’s not just like some armpit/sweat/etc. Like something is WRONG and it filled up every room they were in last time they were in our place of business and it lingered too. I had to quickly excuse myself from one room so as to not gag after a couple of minutes. We used multiple cans of cleaning product afterward.

Tomorrow, our meeting will be in a much smaller room than last time. It may take up to two hours. I’m genuinely concerned on what I can do to handle it.

Any ideas on what I can do to mitigate the smell or steel my resolve?

Update: Thank you everyone who gave advice! The meeting is over so no more advice needed.

I’m going to keep it brief because honestly the point of the post genuinely was to learn ways to get through it without disrespecting/shaming this person and I was worried of my involuntary sensory reaction.

The smell was not AS bad today. I used a combination of helpful tips posted here, and the Vicks was especially helpful. No gagging and everything went smoothly, so thank you all again.

Dad is 8 months sober, doesn’t know his favorite “non-alcoholic” beer isn’t actually 0.0%

My dad quit drinking 8 months ago and is really proud of it. His go-to now is a non-alcoholic lager he drinks every night with dinner. I was grabbing a six-pack for him and, out of boredom, read the fine print on the back: it’s labeled “non-alcoholic” but contains up to 0.5% ABV. It’s a tiny amount, but he’s very strict about this and I know he thinks it’s completely alcohol-free. Should I tell him? Or let him keep enjoying something that’s become part of his routine? I don’t want to ruin something that’s been working for him, but it feels weird to know and say nothing. What should I do??

A guy at my church I barely know won't take 'no' for an answer—he's talking about marriage/kids. How do I handle this?"

Hi everyone, I’m a massive overthinker and I really need some outside perspective and advice on a situation at my church.

I (27F) have been praying for a husband, but I recently ran into a really uncomfortable situation. There is a guy at my church who is in an LPN nursing program, similar to what I did. Out of courtesy and being a supportive church member, I offered to help him with his study materials. I barely know this man outside of this.

Almost immediately, he took my kindness as an opening. He started sending me texts talking about wanting to date me, marry me, and have children with me. He was even making comments like "it's time for you to have children." So I blocked him and he thinks I changed my number. Because we barely know each other and this made me deeply uncomfortable, I told him "no" explicitly on multiple occasions over text. He completely ignored my boundary and kept pushing.

Yesterday at church, he approached me and tried to get me to go with him to his car and drive somewhere. When I refused, he got upset and said why are you acting like this, and started talking about how he "loves" me. I stood my ground and told him a firm NO directly to his face and left. I've talked to the church leader(s) about this and they dont want to get involved.

Has anyone dealt with someone skipping all relationship stages and fixating on marriage/kids like this? This to me is insane. How did you handle it?

My Best friend wants me to makeout with his Fiancé

I (23M) have known my best friend (23M) since we were little kids. He literally lives two houses down from me, we grew up together doing pretty much everything. I consider him as close to me as a brother as I will ever get.

He’s been dating his fiancée (23F) since high school, and they had a daughter about four years ago.

Over this time, I’ve hung out with my friend regularly, and occasionally, we’d all hang out together with his fiancée and their daughter. It was completely normal, we’re just friends hanging out.

However, yesterday, completely out of nowhere, my buddy asked me if I’d be comfortable making
out with his fiancée and potentially doing more.

He specified that nothing below the waist would be involved on her.

I need to explain how much this caught me off guard. There have never been any hints of attraction toward me from his fiancée, or them being polygamous, so this came as a complete surprise.

I also got the impression that my friend might not be entirely comfortable with the idea himself. After he told me he was acting unusually positive and overenthusiastic while we talked over playing pc that night. He assured me though he’s down to try it and if it doesn’t work, we can still be all cool afterwards

Personally, I am down, I do find her physically attractive, I just worry greatly for my friendship with my bro. I feel like my relationship will be made a bit weird no matter what I choose.

I don’t know what to make of the whole situation. I desperately need advice.

Advice Received Boyfriend asked me and my twin sister for a threesome, debated on breaking up with him but I’m scared I may be overreacting. NSFW

For context we were all home after a night out of drinking, the three of us were hanging out when he threw that question out there. I’ve asked some close family for advice and all they can tell me is “that’s how all men think” which I really don’t want to believe, i don’t know if it’s just me being insecure but I don’t feel comfortable with the thought he wanted to have sex with my sister

My(31f) husband (37m) basically told me I need to get my shit together three weeks postpartum

I had a super rough pregnancy, I was sick pretty much the entire time and had to work through exhaustion and nausea. Pretty much until the week before I gave birth because we just couldn’t afford for me not to work. I wanna preface all this by saying that my husband is a really sweet and kind person most of the time. He gets overwhelmed and overstimulated and does not deal with it in a healthy way though… And that’s what I think this is…

The first two weeks of my pregnancy he was so amazing and helpful and compassionate, and wanted me to rest and be OK… But then after that he got tired of the house not being clean, and there not being food like they used to be, and generally me not being as helpful of a partner as I was when we first got married… when I went into labor and had my baby he was the most amazing partner so amazing that the nurses were obsessed with him. When she was born, it was like we fell in love with each other all over again.

It was just like my pregnancy, the first couple weeks were amazing and he was so sweet and so kind and so understanding and helpful… But this week he’s been frustrated with me and frustrated with the house. I haven’t been able to cook, dinners or clean the kitchen or fold laundry… At first she was sleeping so much more and I had a little time so I was able to do a few things… But now every time I put her down, she gets really really fussy and unfortunately, she’s one of those babies who choked and hold their breath when they’re crying… So even letting her lay there and cry for even a little bit is not really good…

I’m barely 3 weeks postpartum… I can’t even leave the house by myself right now because she hates her car seat so much… I feel like it’s super unreasonable for him to expect me to get more done around the house at three weeks postpartum. Am I being unreasonable or is he being unreasonable? I don’t know what to think at this point, needed some objective advice.

My sweet bf suddenly humiliated me and I’m losing my ever loving mind

Hi!

I 23f recently broke up with my bf 25m. Together 1yr. He has been such a sweet guy. He always bought the flowers, candies, baskets, planned dates, the whole nine yards. He would bend over backward for me to make life easy for me. I never saw much of a temper from him, especially toward me. He was my gentle sweet man!….until he wasn’t.

Before agreeing to being in a relationship, I told him I do not like my partner consuming porn. It personally really hurts me. He agreed, he was disgusted by porn & told me he overcame his porn problem prior. BOY OH BOY.

We lived together for about two months until I moved out last week.

Meat and potatoes: I could tell something was off with him. Our sex life was different, disconnected on his end. He wasn’t spending time with me anymore, seemed distracted. I would ask & he would say “oh I’m tired.” I would ask if he was unhappy in the relationship, he would say “oh I’m very happy.” And I couldn’t shake this feeling that something was off.

I did look through his phone, CLEAN! Until I looked in the Instagram link history. He was obsessing over this OnlyFans girl, clicking on her link multiple times a day. Needless to say I was hurt. He hid this on purpose for weeks (proof of link history, it has dates)

I confronted him kindly, “baby what’s this? What’s wrong?” That’s when I met a completely different man…his look on his face changed, he looked like he despised me and shouted at me, “YOU DON’T WEAR LINGERIE. YOURE NOT SLUTTY. SHE DRESSES UP, SHE LIKES POKÉMON, SHE SPEAKS SPANISH. SHE IS MY FANTASY.” he described everything I wasn’t.

As you can imagine, that BURNED.

I was crushed. I went to work, I didn’t argue with him.

Any time I would try and talk about it or get emotional he would become extremely angry by yelling at me, blaming me, belittling me. Our disagreements eventually became physical and I moved out. It was too much.

I can see why he was unhappy, he had valid reasons. He said I didn’t dress up in the bedroom. He was also deeply resentful because I hadn’t shown interest in things he likes. He felt like I quit the relationship. In a way I did because IN MY OPINION, he wasn’t growing…I’d try to encourage him to get out of debt, I’d sit down and do a budget with him. No implementation. He has ADHD, I made him a treatment plan with coping skills to keep him him on schedule, no implementation (I am licensed and have professional experience in this arena.) He said he wanted growth in these areas (and others) but had no drive to help himself or to implement the help that was given to him. I stopped trying to help him, hence the “lack of interest”.

I wasn’t perfect, I made mistakes, but I couldn’t fix something he REFUSED to talk about. I asked and asked to no avail.I didn’t know how much lingerie mattered to him. I was also raised in purity culture, it was deeply ingrained into my skull to NEVER be “slutty” I honestly lack sexual experience. I wasn’t opposed…I just needed to be shown how. And he knew this, but he said that I should “show some initiative.”

Now he’s a different man that I don’t know…he ignores my calls and texts whenever I do or say something that bothers him.

The advice I need isn’t how to fix the relationship. It’s dead. The advice I need is how to get my head on straight after this night and day behavior and rebuild my self esteem lol.

For context: obviously this is missing A LOT of detail. I just gave the important parts.

No he isn’t on medication. He blames this behavior on his ADHD.

I just want advice & encouragement on rebuilding my self esteem.

Help me come up with a “lie” for my kid

My daughter (9) has giggle incontinence and needs to go to physical therapy. She’ll miss a bit of school for these appointments once a week, and she is nervous friends will ask why she isn’t in school. What would be a reasonable white lie she can use that wouldn’t be embarrassing, and wouldn’t get further questions?

Advice Received I ended my marriage just a few days ago. And now he’s asking me out to dinner.

We were together for 8 years. 2 years dating/engaged and 6 years married. Now I am separated, and I’ll soon be starting the divorce process. It was a difficult decision, but a necessary one!! I was deeply disrespected in my marriage, and I reached a point where my emotional health completely collapsed. I identified (with the help of therapy and the support of my family) that my husband's dynamics fit perfectly into a pattern of vulnerable narcissism. That soft, seductive kind of manipulation that makes you question your own sanity and lures you back in through "affection" and good memories from the beginning.

Well… Today he made a gesture that was equal parts romantic and desperation. He took advantage of the holiday in the city where we used to live, drove hundreds of kilometers by surprise to our hometown where our families live, and texted me asking me out to dinner. It was actually a creative message. He sent me a picture of a little invitation card he drew, bringing back inside jokes, things from back when we were dating... clearly trying to bypass my decision to get a divorce and win me over.

But I know exactly what this is. The classic "siren song." If I give in, it’s only a matter of time before the cycle starts all over again. A cycle that involves betrayal, lies, hiding things, gaslighting and manipulation. And keep in mind, I realized this was the dynamic of my relationship (and who he truly was) less than a month ago. It was honestly terrifying to realize who he really was. Anyway… about dinner with him, I know I can't and shouldn't give in! My parents warned me, my rational mind knows it. I’ve already made up my mind and taken my steps.

But, fuck... it HURTS so much!!
It hurts because he is my husband, also because everything is so fresh. I’m in a new apartment, rebuilding my life from scratch, alone, afraid of the future, and crushing under the overwhelming longing for the "good part" of him. Saying no to him and sending a cold message declining doesn't bring me any peace; just thinking about it gives me a tearing sensation in my chest and a bizarre feeling of grief and loneliness. At times, I even wonder if I’m judging things wrong, if maybe there wasn't a chance for everything to change… But deep down, I know it’s just the desperation of wanting to stop the pain all at once.

I just really needed to vent. For anyone who has gone through this… man, how did you deal with this absolute shit of a pain, having to choose yourself when all your heart wanted was to run into that person's arms? How do you survive the grief of these first few days?
Thank you to anyone who reads this.

Advice Received Mom railroaded me into taking cakes to work for my birthday when I didn’t want the attention

I live with my mom. I’d spent a night away from home, and came back on the evening before my birthday.

My mom kept telling me how I have to take cakes into work , I have to do it and it’s rude not to. She said let me take you the shop to get something you can take in. She was being so pushy and I felt I had no option at the time.

I went in and put them on the desk for everyone to grab. Of course I received a lot of attention, coworkers even bought me a gift. But I hated the attention and I didn’t want the gifts. They kept asking me about what I’ll be doing etc, in truth I’ll be sat at home relaxing.

My mom can be very overbearing and in the past I’ve been working on making my own choices. But this morning she was being so pushy when I didn’t want the attention.

I guess next time I need to use my mind more to make my own decisions right?

Advice Received Constantly wanting to break up with my partner every few weeks despite loving her?

Me (19F) and my partner (18F) have been together for around a year and a half, maybe a little longer. She is genuinely one of the most loving and caring people in the world. She’s amazing when it comes to supporting me through my anxiety, depression and emotions, and I honestly couldn’t ask for someone more understanding.

However, for some reason, every few weeks I get this intense gut feeling that I need to break up with her. It turns into this horrible cycle of anxiety and guilt that I experience for a few hours every day for around three days before it eventually passes. I’ve spoken to her about these feelings multiple times, and we always end up deciding to stay together. What’s really confusing is that after I’ve almost broken up with her and we decide to work things out, I suddenly feel giddy, happy and amazing again. It’s such a strange emotional switch, and I don’t understand why it happens.

My girlfriend thinks I might have BPD because my emotions fluctuate so much, and I can be extremely emotionally impulsive. I’m not diagnosed, though, so I don’t want to jump to conclusions.

When I try to understand why I feel the need to break up, I think a lot of it comes down to being young and wanting to experience other people and explore different things before settling down. I love my girlfriend, but I also feel like I’m missing out on experiences I might want to have at this age. She isn’t comfortable with an open relationship, which I completely understand and respect, so that isn’t something I’m expecting her to agree to.

I guess what I’m really looking for advice on is whether anyone else has experienced this kind of recurring urge to break up with someone they genuinely love, especially when the feeling comes with so much anxiety and guilt. Why does it keep happening, and is there a way to manage these feelings without ending the relationship?

I don’t want to keep putting either of us through this cycle, but I also don’t want to make a decision I might regret when these feelings eventually pass. Has anyone been through something similar, and if so, how did you work through it?

How to deal with GF with very, very low self esteem

So my (21m) girlfriend (19) has way too low self esteem. I thought I was bad at some point but compared to her im nowhere near.

  1. She always thinks she's chubby, wants to be like those models who snort coke and eat an apple for a living. I always tell her that to me she is smoking hot not to mention she is literally normal weight for her size and not even an ounce chubby, she sometimes even thinks I'm lying as I'm complimenting her.

  2. She thinks she is too dumb because she is academically not good, she never had good grades and thinks she's stupid for that. Me, I tell her that it doesnt matter and some people struggle with that kind of stuff, its not that deep, also most the time she was just too lazy to study which I admit. However grades don't defy a person's worth, she doesnt get this tho.

  3. This one's a weird one but she can't even play single player games I suggest on easy mode because she thinks if she dies in game it will make her feel worthless. I have no words for this one, I mean I sort of understand the past two reasons as she could have an underlying issue.

Not even wanting to try some mildly challenging story mode games because you might die, which is a core part of gaming is so weird to me.

Now, I always try to reassure her but as some point it gets tiring and I do not want to be her therapist. I know the most easy way would be to send her to one but it costs like a 100 Euros per session here.

How can I make our relationship last while this slowly grinds me?

Infidelity in Marriage – Husband (33M) and Wife (31F) – Need Advice

My husband (33M) and I (31F) have been together for 10 years, married for one, and have a child together. I recently found out he cheated on me for months after I gave birth, and he lied repeatedly about the details. I also found a receipt showing he bought condoms halfway through our marriage, but he claims he never used them and that the purchase was connected to gambling and wanting a rush. Since everything came out, he has also been questioning his sexuality and has come out as bisexual. I’m struggling to process everything at once, especially because I sometimes feel like the focus has shifted to his emotions rather than the hurt he caused me. I still crave affection sometimes, but other times I feel detached or uncomfortable after intimacy. I’m full of resentment and questioning whether I even want to save this marriage. I feel guilty considering leaving after 10 years together and with a child involved, but I’m also afraid of being judged if I stay. For those who’ve experienced infidelity in a long-term relationship, how did you know whether to stay and rebuild or walk away?

Update: I have been tested, everything has been negative (THANKFULLY). Any moment we have a conversation he is so quick to say “I’m a bad person, you should leave me”. Always so quick to deflect and move the focus on him. I’ll say, I am scared to leave because we just bought our house 2 years ago and I’m afraid of how my daughter will respond to the separation.

I also believe that he is wanting to explore his bi side, he has been watching more corn on it. Im not sure exactly how to feel about it either, I can’t change who he is attracted to. But since coming to terms with that he has been projecting his insecurities onto me and the type of guys I’m physically attracted to. I don’t know why he’s doing this when all I have ever done is support him.

My daughter is also 9 years old. We had her early on in our relationship. He claims he slept with the woman “only” 4 times from 2016-2018. This chick knew about us, liked our family photos and pictures of my daughter. And he kept her on fb until 2023 when we got engaged.

Update: I am also very self sufficient. I am not reliant on him financially, I have a degree, a great career. I am worried about doing it all on my own and what finances would look like and selling my house that we bought in 2024.

Advice please

I’m 24. I spent about five years of my life with a 45-year-old man and left him roughly a year ago. Living with him meant living under his control m he was extremely emotionally, mentally, and financially abusive and wanted me with him 24/7. I wasn’t working and had no real way out, but I finally decided I didn’t want to waste the rest of my twenties like that. So I packed my bags and left. For the next six months I lived in my car while I tried to scrape together enough money for a place of my own. Job interview after job interview went nowhere. The area I was in was rough and everyone was competing for the same low-paying jobs. There were stretches when I couldn’t even afford food or a shower. I was just trying to survive. Eventually I started working at a strip club. I quickly realized that sex work was bringing in more money in a short time than anything else I’d tried. I began finding clients through the club, saved hard, and was finally able to get my own apartment. Once I moved in, things started looking up.

I also have a background, and I’m covered head to toe in tattoos including face tattoos. (That’s another story I was young and dumb, so please don’t judge that part.) Because of all that, I knew getting a regular job would be hard. I decided I wanted to keep doing sex work. Sex work is what got me out of being homeless. It got me a car, paid off my court fines, and put food on the table. Even when I was working 12-hour shifts at a factory, I still couldn’t afford rent. So I knew this was what I wanted to continue. Most of the men I’ve met for sex work have been weird encounters, but a lot of them have also been completely normal. At the time I didn’t know about escort sites or that you could post your own ads, so I was finding clients however I could. Most of them came from dating sites. I made it very clear in my bio: “NOT LOOKING FOR A RELATIONSHIP. PAY FOR PLAY ONLY.” That’s how I met one particular man at a hotel. He paid for my services. I don’t think he fully understood what sex work even was he was just lonely. He basically became obsessed with me.

I told myself after leaving abuse that I wouldn’t talk to or date any clients. Period. Then this 22-year-old started texting me nonstop. He was obsessed, always wanting to buy me food and stuff, and I like feeling worshipped… so I let it happen. I’m 24. We’ve been dating about 6–7 months now and I still don’t fully understand how I ended up here. I just didn’t know how to say no.

He told me if I ever touch another man he’s done with me. Cool. But I choose money over love. Love doesn’t pay my bills. Now that I finally have my own apartment I feel free… and also really hurt. He knows I’m struggling financially. He met me doing sex work. And now he wants me to give all of it up for him. It feels fucked up. It would be different if we met normally and then he wanted me to stop. But that’s not what happened. I lost my 9-5 that paid my rent. I’m thinking about going back to sex work and stripping. When I told him that he got extremely mad almost like he’d rather I lose my place so I have to move in with him. He’s said multiple times, “I won’t let you lose your apartment, if anything you’ll live with me.” That makes me extremely uncomfortable.
If he really wanted me to stop providing, why didn’t he just give me enough money so I could? (Not that I even would’ve wanted that.) I just wanted him to shut up and let me do the career he met me in. Looking back, I don’t think he wanted to “save” me. I think he wanted to save his money by getting me for free. He never should’ve gotten to tell me I shouldn’t be doing this. He complains about it all the time and I just want to say… you’re the one who funded it.

I'm so sorry if this comes off as a vent, I'm just trying to describe my situation I promise 💔

Ever since preschool, I was a laughing stock for everyone. That followed me into elementary, then to middle school (where it was arguably the worst so far), and now I'm in highschool, and it hasn't ever stopped. Every time I feel like I establish any connection with another person, it turns out that they were just making fun of me behind my back, or just acting on some weird sense of mercy. I'm genuinely lost on why it is happening, and I think that if there was a singular reason, I'd already realised it by now.

Recently I've been subjected to a ton of those "my friend likes me" "hey did you know that I like you" (romantic I like you, not platonic) jokes. Every day, every time I see that group. I'm on an international school trip with them, so I cannot even just stay at home or anything. The people that I share my room with are friends with them.

Today I lashed out on that group, and there is genuinely nothing that I can say, that can make me be taken seriously. Every comeback was laughed at by a whole fucking crowd. (I'm not even joking, we were standing inside of a crowd and genuinely everyone was fucking laughing. Or at least the most of them). The people I considered friends at that point were just fucking grinning from ear to ear, looking at me as if I'm crazy.

I'm so tired. I genuinely cannot take this shit anymore. It happens constantly. Every day that I'm outside or anywhere at school. What the fuck am I doing wrong. What can I do to fix it. I'm tired please

Advice Received Should I report this to HR?

I have this issue where I have these imaginary friends that I talk to. It’s been something ever since I was a kid. Even as an adult, I haven’t had the ability to stop, and I have been diagnosed with autism. I don’t doubt that I have something more, but I can’t really spend money to get any other diagnostics done. This one operations manager where I work has brought up the fact that I talk to myself twice. The first time was when I talked to my equipment because it was giving me issues because sometimes people talk to inanimate objects when they’re frustrated with the object and the second time was earlier today, where I just had to ramble on and on to myself. I know it’s a bizarre behavior, but I have tried to deal with it, and it’s just caused more stress than it’s worth. I work in manufacturing. I don’t work with customers.

I feel like I got cucked and I have no idea what’s to do.

My (18F) boyfriend (22M) has found another girl. She lives in the same city as him. And I got really disappointed because of that, but he said that I can be his “platonic love”.

Did I really got cucked or is that something different?

Advice Received Sold item to someone who reached back out a week later

I’m having an issue with someone who bought jewelry from me through Facebook, and I need some advice.

Two (very small) pieces of jewelry were purchased on 10/4 and shipped on 10/6. They were shipped in the same package, wrapped in tissue paper. This is the same way I have shipped all of my jewelry since I started selling part of my collection, and I haven’t had an issue.

(I mention the size because I saw somewhere that shipping weights might help prove that I sent both, but the pieces are so small that I think it might be immaterial to go off of weight.)

The jewelry pieces were marked as delivered through USPS on 10/8.

Yesterday (10/14) I got a message through Facebook from the person who bought them, saying that one of the two pieces was missing from the package. They claimed to have waited to reach out because they thought another package might be on the way (they paid for shipping once). I said that I could open an investigation through USPS, but they might need the packaging to rule out tampering. They said the packaging was thrown away as soon as they got the jewelry.

I am now getting multiple messages a day regarding this issue. Any idea how I should handle it?

How do I tell my struggling department that I’m leaving them?

I’ve been working for my company for almost 4 years, since I graduated university. I love my job, the projects are fun and the company is pretty small so we all know each other and working together is always a good time.

My first year I was paid 10 grand less than all my colleagues. They also told me they brought all graduates in as ‘Juniors’ which wasn’t true. I believe this did that so they could underpay me and on paper it wouldn’t look bad because technically I had a different title than the rest so my role is different therefore I don’t need to be compensated as much.

They also made it clear to me that the only way for the engineers to get career progression is time. If you stay long enough you become a senior. Financially we get a 3% increase annually and a 2 grand Christmas bonus (which they’re now reducing).

The more I write the better I feel about leaving them to be honest.

The issue I have is that my department is now down to 7 people because we keep losing engineers. We’re drowning with work and my colleague just announced he’s leaving at the end of this month. They’ve been trying to get more engineers but they’re based in bumfuck nowhere England and they can’t seem to find anyone.

It’s probably arrogant but if I leave they’re truly fucked. Everyone here has a niche but I love doing random projects so I’m good at everything. I’ve pretty much hit the glass ceiling, the job is fun but mentally it isn’t that demanding and I’m worried that if I limit myself to this place, next time I want to switch roles I won’t have the skills I need.

My colleagues are nice and they don’t have any control over how the company is run but I feel like they’re the ones I’m fucking over. I still have to do it though.

"Who will run the family business?" I am the oldest sibling, but I am a woman.

Hello! I will try to keep this brief, but I really need advice. Hopefully from someone who has been in my position.

I (25F) have been working (legally) for our family farm for almost a decade now. We are a sod farm who also sells sod and other bulk materials to the public. I am currently the main equipment operator and office manager for our yard. I have been working to try and bring our company into the 21st century (We still do EVERYTHING on paper) and grow our business. I have been successful for the most part and am making big strides forward. We have the reputation and connections to be very successful, and this feels like an opportunity I would be stupid to pass up. Especially with the amount of work and time I have already put in.

BUT

I cannot help but feel like I will never be the "owner" of this business. I get shot down and criticized regularly about wanting to expand my skill level and or implement new systems for the office. For example, I would like to get my Class A CDL because I already know how to run the delivery trucks. But my father's response to this request is "you do not react fast enough to drive on the roads". I have not wrecked anything on any piece of equipment I have operated since working here. (skid steers, excavators, forklifts, regular farming tractors, semis around the yard and farm etc) I also already drive our work trucks and haul equipment on long trailers all around Missouri. But he will hire literally ANYONE that walks in off the street with a CDL without knowing how they drive at all. THEY HAVE ACCIDENTS ALL THE TIME. But I supposedly "can't". I do not understand this line of thinking at all. I also would like to have an actual POS system for the front for orders but apparently that would "create too much paperwork". I talk about trying to pull all of our finances together to see what our actual bottom line is but that is "not important office stuff". I try to have company meetings to discuss goals and issues, but I get brushed off or ignored almost every time. There are a million other things, but I am trying to keep this short.

Here is the real kick in the pants. I have an 8y brother. Almost every time the question of who is going to eventually run the family business my dad's immediate answer is always my brother. It truly feels like it is just because he is the first boy. Even though he is 8 and I have been pouring all of my time into building this place up.

Like I said in the beginning it feels silly to walk away and work somewhere else when there is so much opportunity here, but I also do not want to play second fiddle my whole life when I can be appreciated somewhere else. Especially since I am still young enough that I could pick any career path.

I am really struggling with this decision. So what do you all think? Should I stay or should I leave?

Need advice! My kids will be with their dad this Thanksgiving and the friends I usually will spend the holiday with will be out of town. In fact, I will be pup-sitting for them so I can’t go back “home” for the holiday. What should I do?
