[Quality!] Best pancakes with crispy edges in DC?

I know the “Best Pancakes in DC” thread exists, but I’m looking specifically for a DC restaurant that serves pancakes with crispy edges, like Helen’s in Richmond (which were perfect). NoVA or MD recs also OK. (And yes, I know I can make my own, but that’s not what I’m asking … and I don’t want to.) Please and thank you 🥞

[Discussion] Where to get boneless lamb?

Where can I get boneless lamb shoulder and/ or boneless lamb chops? I've already tried the following stores:

  • Whole Foods (on P St)
  • Giant (Columbia Heights)
  • Harris Teeter (Kalorama)
  • Safeway (Columbia Rd)
  • Lidl (DC USA)

[Discussion] Does anyone know a good, authentic Morrocan restaurant in the area?

Have been asked by some folks at the office to scope out a Moroccan place. It does not need to be remotely fancy, a hole in the wall will do just fine. Metro accessible is the only necessary point, and preferably not in, like, Ashburn. The more authentic the better. Also fusion places, like Maydan, aren't exactly what we are after.

Thanks in advance, folks!

[Discussion] Dentist Recommendations (for dental anxiety)

I saw a post recently asking for a dentist that handles high anxiety patients and I’m in search of the same but I have a different insurance plan than what that post mentioned. So I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for dentists within delta dental (ppo) network, that are competent and non-judgmental.

I haven’t been to the dentist in years and I know it’s a common story but I am very anxious about it and already in general have high anxiety. I don’t want to be judged or it to be made any harder than it already is for me.

I’m around georgetown area but can drive farther if it’s worth it so any place (reasonably) within driving distance is okay. Please anyone who has a recommendation let me know!

[Rant] Petty Post about reckless Drivers

I hope this post reaches the absolute buffoon that was street racing their white dodge hellcat southbound with 3 other dimwits on Balt/Wash Pkwy and 95 South last week at night.

Last week, my partner and I were heading towards NoVA from BMore and took the parkway at night (around 10-11PM). 4 cars, 1 BMW, 1 Hellcat and 2 hoopties were street racing down the parkway, almost hitting us and others on 3 separate occasions:
- 1 time in MD on the parkway
- 1 time in Anacostia
- 1 time in NoVA

Thankfully we saw the hellcat pulled over by an officer when we reached Lorton and felt blissful since karma found its way.

Needed to vent. Be careful yall. if yall know the dipshits driving these vehicles, please report them. They’re going to kill themselves or someone around them.

[Discussion] Alley repair along fence - what to do with the dirt strip

Post image
2 Upvotes

Our alley was repaved recently, but along our fence they left it as dirt (about a 1 foot strip). We have serious rodent pressure in this alley so trying to figure out next steps - ask the city to return and pave up to the fence? Pay for gravel to fill the strip?

[Rant] An Open letter to the owners of H&Chicken

First, the 10 piece chicken special and wings specials... are awesome, as is your chicken and that Arnold Palmer might be the best I've ever tasted.

Now for the down side... While I know your bags are very nice, made from premium materials and are gorgeous, they are awfully bulky for those of us who don't have a car to throw our order into. Having to stuff that big bag into my bike trunk can make things messy. Please consider adding plastic bags for take out orders.

PS Keep up the great work!

[Rant] Is it just me or are way more people smoking now?

It seems like so many more people are smoking in the city than in recent years. I know I read a report that a lot of people are taking up smoking in order to quit vaping. Is that what yall are doing? If so, you’re an idiot and you should know that. That’s like shooting up heroin to quit an oxy addiction

[Discussion] Rec league hockey recommendations?

Haven’t play organized ice hockey in over a dozen years but I‘m still a solid skater and I’ve got an itch to play again. Does anyone have any suggestions of low-level/beginner leagues/orgs I could join in the DMV this winter?

[Discussion] It goes both ways with three scooters.

Was downtown and just watched a car repeatedly honk at a scooter in the street. The scooter was totally within its rights and instead of getting over one lane, the driver just continued to honk at the scooter. I just see so many people in the sub complaining about scooters on the sidewalk and thought it was a good example of how it works the other way in the street.

[Sports] Tennis Lessons Post-RCTC?

Now that Rock Creek Tennis Center has closed does anyone have recommendations for tennis lessons in DC? I would love a facility that has indoor options for the winter, preferably in DC proper (close to NW). I saw the East Potomac Racquet Club is opening but no word on when. I have also taken DCPR lessons and don’t love them.
Thanks!

[Discussion] Experience with BZA “Party Status Request”? Home will be affected

Hello fellow Washingtonians. There is a zoning relief request from a developer that is going to affect my home because of the proximity.

I received a notice from the Board of Zoning Adjustment indicating that there will be a hearing and that I have a right to request “party status” (https://dcoz.dc.gov/page/party-status-request). I don’t have the money to hire an attorney but I do think that I should request party status so that I can ask questions and, if needed, gain standing to submit a motion for reconsideration or rehearing.

Has anybody gone through this process pro se (representing yourself)? Do you have any advice? Did you ask the developer questions during the hearing? I would be very grateful for any advice you have.

For years we have loved going to the "Masters of Suspense" series The Miracle Theater Capitol Hill does in October with a bunch of Hitchcock films. It's a great fall tradition for the District. This year, nothing seems planned. Does anyone know why not?

[Discussion] Man masturbating at bar

I was at Residents in DuPont for HH, and the guy on the next barstool exposed himself and was masturbating. After coming to terms with what I was seeing (he was trying to be discrete), I reported him to the host stand. While I was gone he paid his tab and left. He definitely knew what was going on and left before he could be held accountable. No one had any idea what he was doing, except for the two women on the other side of him who later corroborated what I saw.

He was a late 20s-mid 30s Black man with longer hair. He wore workout tights with shorts over them, and definitely cut a hole in the tights with his shorts as a cover. Before engaging in this behavior, he made normal small talk with me and the bartender. Nothing in his behavior or appearance was weird or abnormal. And he didn’t hit on me, make me feel uncomfortable, or say anything inappropriate. Him literally jacking off at the bar seemingly came out of no where.

I’m making this post so that if others see this man doing this, PLEASE believe your eyes and say something. Don’t gaslight yourself (yes, it is crazy, but your eyes saw what they saw). Trust yourself to make a report when you see something that makes you uncomfortable. And don’t wait for others to say something, because the guy might cause harm to others (and we should report fuxkin weirdos).

[Discussion] Thanksgiving Dinner

Does anyone have recommendations for take-out Thanksgiving dinners in the city?

I have to host family (5-6 people), but I won’t be able to cook everything by myself this year. (Heating up is fine - just can’t be cooking anything from scratch).

TIA!!!
