This is a follow up to the og map:
Most of the changes come from your comments on that post!
New on the map:
- Purple Line: arc from Bethesda to New Carrollton, with all 21 stations
- Water Taxi: Georgetown, The Wharf, Old Town, and National Harbor
- Four airports now: DCA, IAD, BWI, and HEF (Manassas)
- MARC/Amtrak line from Union Station to BWI, and VRE from Old Town to HEF
- Thinner lines and smaller markers, so the core is easier to read
- Various minor changes: larger National Mall, added Great Falls, etc
The map is still generated from one JSON spec by a Python script (SVG + PDF + PNG).

I am not surprised to find the same people ignoring traffic laws are also the same people shooting up the neighborhood. This woman was averaging over a ticket a week, and she’s not even from here! She’s from Maryland! I will never understand why we allow out of state drivers to run rampant through the district.
It’ll be interesting to see if this plate gets more tickets coming up. My guess is she switches to a fake plate.

New column: The Trump administration's savage destruction of hundreds of trees on D.C.'s East Potomac golf course is in keeping with its belief that the public good consists of bulldozing the beautiful and keeping out the riffraff. https://dc.citycast.fm/opinion/the-senseless-destruction-of-east-potomac-park

I thought the app was down for maintenance, but this is serious. These cyber criminals better not have stolen my shopping history for unhealthy snacks!

I’m looking for a relaxing place in Northwest to sit down and read. Library hours are limited and I like to be in a more vibrant place though not too loud. (for context, Tryst doesn’t work without earplugs). Home is tiny, so it’s nice to get out and about. Thank you neighbors

Hello! In desperate search for one of the WMATA wands from the latest metro pop-up. Would love to use it for my Halloween costume and would be happy to buy it off you or if you’re so inclined, borrow it for Halloween night and return it after!
Hoping a fellow transit lover can come through on this silly request 🫶

Can't say for sure that means they're marked to be torn down, but it sure seems that way. Many of the trees marked are the largest and most beautiful trees out there.

Hi all! Looking for some guidance from pregnant mamas and moms who work in DC specifically. I’m due in March of 2027 and I plan on using DC paid family leave bonding benefits which covers up to 12 weeks of bonding time and is also paid. I just also enrolled in short term disability through my employer which I believe covers up to 13 weeks for eligible conditions. Pregnancy is listed as one of the covered conditions.
My question is can I use my short term disability right after giving birth for recovery( they’ll likely approve 6-8 weeks) then use my DC parental bonding time or do I just have to pick one of the benefits??
For context i haven’t been at my job for a full year so i wont be eligible for FMLA benefits. However i did speak to my manager and they agreed to hold my position since this job requires clearance, which we all know takes a long time to obtain so they also don’t want to train anyone else.

I live in a 200 unit apartment building in Columbia Heights. Me and my neighbors have a lot of problems with pests and I don’t know how it compares to other places, or how the pest control regiment.
Since moving in less than a year ago:
-I’ve caught 35 fruit flies over the course of 3 days
-Caught 2 mice and saw another running around
-have seen 4 baby roaches over the course of a week
-caught two adult roaches
-neighbor saw one roach crawl out of his clothes into the lint filter in the communal laundry area
-saw one dead bedbug on top of one of the washing machines
Additionally I’ve asked a bunch of neighbors and 40% of them have also reported rodents, one saying that they’ll even come out and chase each other around in the living room when the family goes to the kitchen to eat dinner.
We have an exterminator come in once every week. Most everybody in this building is working class families, elderly and disabled people, and immigrants. I know the building is old, it was built in the 1940s, but I can’t help but wonder if the other older buildings with richer tenants on the other side of Rock Creek Park or closer to downtown have to deal with the same level of pests and problems. Like there’s a lot of children and elderly people here who have to live around rodent droppings, roaches, and mold.

I was at Residents in DuPont for HH, and the guy on the next barstool exposed himself and was masturbating. After coming to terms with what I was seeing (he was trying to be discrete), I reported him to the host stand. While I was gone he paid his tab and left. He definitely knew what was going on and left before he could be held accountable. No one had any idea what he was doing, except for the two women on the other side of him who later corroborated what I saw.
He was a late 20s-mid 30s Black man with longer hair. He wore workout tights with shorts over them, and definitely cut a hole in the tights with his shorts as a cover. Before engaging in this behavior, he made normal small talk with me and the bartender. Nothing in his behavior or appearance was weird or abnormal. And he didn’t hit on me, make me feel uncomfortable, or say anything inappropriate. Him literally jacking off at the bar seemingly came out of no where.
I’m making this post so that if others see this man doing this, PLEASE believe your eyes and say something. Don’t gaslight yourself (yes, it is crazy, but your eyes saw what they saw). Trust yourself to make a report when you see something that makes you uncomfortable. And don’t wait for others to say something, because the guy might cause harm to others (and we should report fuxkin weirdos).

Hi all! I live near the Taft bridge/rock creek park between Woodley Park and AdMo and was wondering what was going on with the construction the past few nights (beeping, lots of machinery banging around). It’s been keeping me up and I haven’t been able to find any information on what’s causing it on SCOUT or the DOB/DDOT websites - are they doing the work in the barriers on the bridge at night now? So far it’s seemed like it’s kept to daytime mainly, so wasn’t sure if it was something else.
Just curious if anyone had any information! Fingers crossed it wraps up soon and greatly appreciate any info anyone can provide.

Has anyone else had this issue? I need to drive into different parts of VA a lot during the week, usually around 5:30pm, and lately google maps directing me to Rock Creek Parkway despite it being closed to southbound traffic between 3:30pm and 6:30pm. It won't give me any alternative routes and I don't know what to do. I don't know if it's something with just my app, or if others are experiencing this as well.

Ticketmaster isn't the biggest problem facing the Kennedy Center. But the decision to hand its ticketing operations to Ticketmaster/Live Nation is a particularly troubling example of what's happening under the current leadership.
Today's Washington Post reports that newly appointed artistic director Rick Canny helped negotiate the Ticketmaster agreement, shaping many of its terms.
Why would the Kennedy Center voluntarily put its audiences in the hands of a company notorious for excessive fees and predatory business practices? It is also wildly unpopular with the ticket-buying public. (Judging by the enthusiastic reactions to my sign on the Kennedy Center Plaza today, from passers-by, cyclists, and drivers, that unpopularity is alive and well.)
The Kennedy Center is a nonprofit performing arts institution. Its existing ticketing system, Tessitura, was designed for nonprofits and integrates ticket sales with subscriptions, fundraising, and donor relationships.

If you drive this vehicle or know the person who does you should be ashamed of yourself. Running a stop sign and almost tboning another vehicle, then running a red light and almost hitting a FIRE TRUCK Then to subsequently stop your car and block the road just to get out and scream at everyone is absolutely insane.
Someone needs to lock you up in a mental institution

Dear DoorDash,
I’d be happy to resume using your service if you fire your dc lobbyists and disavow their dumbass plan to fight home rule. It’s that simple!

It seems like so many more people are smoking in the city than in recent years. I know I read a report that a lot of people are taking up smoking in order to quit vaping. Is that what yall are doing? If so, you’re an idiot and you should know that. That’s like shooting up heroin to quit an oxy addiction
