Recommendations Needed OC Halloween Decorations Map
maps.app.goo.glIt is officially October now, which means we are back with the Halloween decorations map. This map is carefully curated and kept up to date.
As I say each year this is a community project, and every little bit of help helps! If you visit a place on this map and there is no decorations please let us know, that is how we keep this up to date each year. If you see somewhere that is worthy of being on the map (usually an incredible individual house or a cluster of really good houses, we do not include haunts as those have specific dates and times) please let us know so it can be added. This is a living breathing map that changes from year to year. If your city has a contest on their social media share that here so we can update the map. I try every year to get to all the places on the map but it is not possible for any one person to do it, so the map is only as good as the community support that has created and helped keep it going each year. Thank you to all of you who have participated!

News Orange County hair stylist accused of sexually assaulting boys
An Orange County hair stylist is behind bars for allegedly sexually assaulting multiple victims, including juvenile boys, over a 10-year period, police said Wednesday.
Costa Mesa police began their investigation into 61-year-old Ricardo Garcia of Fullerton after receiving several reports that he inappropriately touched victims, behavior that allegedly escalated to sexual assault, the department posted on Facebook.
Garcia, who owns Hair by Ricardo at 2200 Harbor Blvd. in Costa Mesa, is suspected of using his position as a hair stylist to sexually assault his victims. Those victims, whom he had contact with as clients, were mostly male and range in ages from 13 years old to adults when the assaults occurred,” police said.
Garcia was arrested Tuesday, and investigators have released his photo, believing that there may be additional victims because of his position and regular access to the public.

Recommendations Needed Where to go on 10/31/206
This year, we've decided to put a table full of Halloween candy goody bags at the end of our path, then go somewhere on Halloween.
We're looking for a fun bar that would be having pub crawls, or some other fun date night activity. Bonus points if there is a scary activity.
Any ideas?

News Police chase in Orange??
Does anybody know what happened tonight around 10:30 pm? Was at Hart Park, south side 22 fwy side, when I heard multiple sirens coming from the 22 westbound. At the same time saw a chopper with its spotlight also flying westbound. Was able to see the police lights speeding down the 22, saw about 4. About 5 minutes later I saw the chopper north of the park as if it were flying above Chapman, then from the Hart Park parking lot was able to see sirens speeding northbound on Glassell.

Recommendations Needed Air conditioned places I can go in OC where I can bring my dog inside?
My dog (chihuahua mix) and I have to be out of the house for a couple hours tomorrow. I have a heat intolerance/sensitivity so I can’t be outside for 2 hours in the heat. I’m wondering where I could go where I can take her inside for a couple hours. I’m open to malls, coffee shops, cafes, restaurants, etc. I’m looking for air conditioned places because of the heat.

Question CoveredCA Blue Shield of CA HMO with Hoag in Irvine?
We live in Irvine with 2 kids. Our current plan is Blue Shield of CA PPO but it's getting very expensive now. We are healthy with no chronic health issue. We also rarely venture outside of the Hoag ecosystem. So switching to HMO saves us a lot of money ($1k/month to be exact). Based on my research, I have 2 areas of concern:
- How difficult is it to get referrals (from a Hoag Irvine PCP) to specialists?
- Our kids are with Costal Kids now. Can we use Hoag urgent care or Rady in Oak Creek? It seems like urgent care don't require authorization but the places I can go is limited. Do they need to be in the same medical group?
How is your experience if you are using CoveredCA BSC HMO in OC?

Recommendations Needed Is the OC County Fair a good experience for a youngish adult and a tween?
I haven't been to OC in many decades but I'll be visiting next summer for a friend's wedding and want to take my niece out for a nice day with her tween daughter. She lives in Tustin and, as a single mom, doesn't get out a lot to do fun things and doesn't have a lot of funds. I don't think her daughter gets a lot of experiences, either (other than home, school, etc.). I'll be taking them both out and paying for everything but she'd have a heart attack if it cost too much (like Disney or the Pageant of the Masters or something—is that still going on?).
So, is the OC Fair something you think they would enjoy (and why)? If you go, what are the best things to do there in your opinion and what do you like? Or, is there somewhere better to take them (and what are your suggestions)? Is there somewhere else that is unique to OC? In fact, what would be the most OC experience in the Summer, say or night?
Thank you so much!

Recommendations Needed Long Shot - looking for a salsa dance teacher, Newport Coast area
This is a long shot, but I figured I'd try! Looking for a salsa dance teacher who taught at Newport Coast Community Center in 2011. She was a Japanese-American woman, maybe in her 30s at the time, and she was the best salsa dance teacher I've ever had. Now my partner wants to take a salsa class, and I'm wondering if this instructor is still teaching in the area. Again, I know it's a long shot, but if you know of this teacher, please let me know!
Or, if you know of any great salsa classes in the north Orange County area that would be good for a total beginner, I'd love to hear about those, too.

Recommendations Needed Korean Story Time for Kids/Babies
I'm currently in the Bay Area visiting family, and I took my son to a Cantonese story time at a local library.
Since we plan to raise our son trilingual (English, Cantonese, Korean), I was wondering if any library in orange county or nearby offer a Korean story time?

Nature Found an injured warbler. Should I take it to Wetlands & Wildlife Care? A better option?
UPDATE: The bird died in the night. 😔
I've learned a few things: 1) It is difficult to repair broken wings compared to other injuries; 2) migratory birds who rely heavily on flight are often euthanized if they have a broken wing; 3) small birds easily suffer from shock and can die after being handled or distressed; 4) birds often seem "okay" after hitting something, like a window, but they could be suffering from concussions or internal injuries.
Knowing all this, I probably should have relocated him to a safe, calm place nearby instead of taking him home to try to save him. He would have died anyway (from predation or starvation or unseen injuries). Maybe me taking him sent him into shock. But maybe that's better than him fluttering on the ground in pain for several days?
Anyway, sad times. 😔
This place seemed like a no-brainer, but I read a few bad reviews and I want to make sure it is the best choice.
I found this little yellow-rumped warbler at OCC. It couldnt fly and was distressed. It was in the street and a car came close to hitting it, so I scooped it up in my hoodie gently and took it home. I wonder if it flew into a window or something. He seems okay and is hopping around, but something is definitely wrong with its wing.
I don't want to take it somewhere that will euthanize it immediately without giving it a chance, and that is my (maybe unfounded, maybe unrealistic and overly emotional) fear.
Thanks for your help!

Recommendations Needed Looking for a Place for My Elderly Mother to Live
I'm looking for a place for my retired mother (69 years old) to live. She's on a fixed income but has enough for like $1200/month tops. I understand this is just enough for a room without outside assistance in OC. So my questions are these, does anyone know anyone renting a room where that may be a good fit? Second, is anyone familiar with the public services (if any) available in OC to seniors? I plan to make some calls tomorrow to social services but it's been extremely stressful trying to find her a place that's a good fit. Rooms move quick here and they're often younger people eetc.Any advice is welcome, thank you! It's genuinely stressing me TF out.
Edit: sorry, by "elderly" I just meant senior citizen and I can't edit the title now
