Mod Post Report all app developers

We've been banning around five people a week for advertising their AI vibe coded apps that put a OBD2 code in and spits out generic or dangerously misleading results. Many claim to be free or claim they just want help testing them. Many are based out of countries you probably don't want your personal information getting sent to, like VIN numbers, etc. REPORT THESE POSTS FOR BREAKING SUBREDDIT RULES and the report them again as SPAM so Reddit Admins are notified.

The only issue I had in my truck prior to cleaning this was when I got to a stop sign. Sometimes my car would rev up at RPMs and then drop almost like it wanted to stall. But it did not stall. It’s Been a few weeks since that happened although, when you stop at a stop sign, it still wants to jump forward a little bit. It just doesn’t feel like it wanted to stall though ..
Now, yesterday after cleaning this and putting k&n filter oil on it. My truck was about to stall at a red light after the RPMs jumped. I got to a parking space put it in park. Car stalled. Turned it off. Back on left it for two minutes and then stalled again after RPM jumped. Any ideas what it could be? .

How do I do it? Keep a lithium jump pack under the seat or store it inside on a charger?

My older SUV sometimes sits for several weeks, so I keep a wolfbox available instead of assuming another driver will be nearby when the battery is weak. The part I am unsure about is storage: leaving it in the vehicle means it is available away from home, but bringing it inside makes regular charge checks easier and avoids long periods in extreme temperatures. How do you store and check a lithium jump pack for a vehicle that is not driven often?

Weird Noise Weirdly noisome smell has now gone!

I have a UK-spec Lexus LS430 (2004) which is comes as standard with a factory-fitted rear aircon evaporator. It had the common issue with this model that the the rear refrigerant lines corrode. I finally found an a/c guy who knows these cars, and he wasn't able to fix the rear lines without dropping the fuel tank and a whole bunch of other work at the back, so he capped off the rear, as many people do. It's working great now (in the front only, obvs). It was a pretty slow leak - the car was losing around 500g of charge every 6 months or so.

However, since I bought the car around a year ago, there's been an unpleasant smell, mainly in the boot (trunk), but also partially in the rear of the passenger compartment. It's a pungent chemical smell, almost fishy. Since I've had the a/c fixed, the smell has reduced noticeably.

I'm wondering if it was connected with the leak. Does PAG oil have an unpleasant smell?

Note: I've interpreted the tag "weird noise" to include "weirdly noisome".

Stock audio Underseat Subwoofer Recommendations?JBL BassPro SL2 / Nano?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to add an underseat sub to my 2014 Hyundai i30. Budget is roughly £300. Keeping my boot space clear is a non-negotiable, so it absolutely has to be an underseat unit.

I've upgraded my head unit so I have dedicated RCA subwoofer outputs, so I'll be running a low-level RCA signal to this Sub.

I'm not expecting chest-rattling bass from a underseat subwoofer but I just want the absolute closest I can possibly get to this.

Between the SL2 and the Nano, which one would be best?

Are there any other options under or around £300 that outperform the JBLs?

Thanks in advance!

Tire question Are jump starter and tire inflator combos useful, or worse than two separate tools?

I keep a small emergency bag in the car, and the wolfbox caught my eye because it combines a jump starter and an air pump in one unit. The space-saving part is nice, but I am not sure if combo tools are a bad idea when you really need them. If the pump drains the battery or one function fails, you are kind of stuck. Has anyone used a combined unit long enough to trust it, or do you still prefer a separate jump pack and separate inflator?

So I've always worked on beaters and just tightened till I can't anymore, I started working on cars when I was young so I would def not bend metal but still knew when it'd be tight enough, silly ol me forgot that once I get older and naturally stronger sometimes u can't do that, was on what I told myself would be the last turn to tighten my sway bar link and felt a slip, told myself it was probably nothing and took it one a test drive and heard a snap and clunk followed by ABS light.. atleast the new struts and spring transfers are working fine ig 🥹

Safety Question What should you check on your car before Dubai’s summer heat affects it?

Dubai’s heat can put extra demands on a vehicle, especially its cooling system, battery and air conditioning. I think these three areas are worth paying attention to before a small symptom becomes a bigger problem.

1. Cooling system
Watch for repeated coolant loss, visible leaks or a temperature gauge rising above its normal range. If the engine overheats, stop safely and switch it off. Never open a hot, pressurised cooling system.

2. Battery and starting
High temperatures can accelerate battery deterioration. Slow cranking or inconsistent starting can be a reason to test the battery and charging system rather than replacing parts based on guesswork.

3. Air conditioning
If the cabin takes longer to cool or airflow feels weaker than usual, the cause should be investigated. Weak cooling does not automatically mean the vehicle needs more refrigerant.

One important point: Symptoms are clues, not confirmed diagnoses. A proper inspection helps identify the cause before deciding what needs repair.

For Dubai drivers, what has been the most common heat-related issue you have experienced: battery trouble, weak A/C or engine-temperature problems? What helped you identify the actual cause?

Safety Question Would an all-in-one jump starter and inflator make sense for a car that sits for weeks?

My second car sometimes sits for three or four weeks, so I have been rethinking what to keep in its small trunk. A wolfbox jump starter and inflator combo caught my attention because it covers both a weak battery and a low tire, but I am wondering whether combining the two creates more maintenance than it saves. So, a vehicle that is not driven often, would you keep a combo unit or separate tools?

I need help fixing something Enterprise UK: booked C-Class or similar, got an A3 hatchback, is it reasonable to ask for a swap?

Hi all. I rented a car for my birthday weekend. My own car isn’t anything fancy, so I wanted to treat myself to something nice with unlimited mileage for a few trips.

I booked the Premium category advertised as “Mercedes C-Class or similar” and used Enterprise Plus points for some extra rental days. Before collection, I also called to ask whether I could use my membership benefits to upgrade to Large Premium. A BMW would have been a lovely birthday treat, but I wasn’t set on a particular brand.

At collection, I was given an Audi A3 hatchback. I questioned whether it was in the category I’d booked, and the staff member said it was Small Premium. I didn’t want to argue, so I accepted it, although I’d expected something closer in size to a C-Class saloon.

The car itself is lovely, and I drove to Cornwall on my own yesterday. However, I’m also planning a birthday trip from the Bristol area to St Austell with four friends, five of us altogether, and I’m now concerned about fitting everyone and their luggage comfortably.

Looking at the space, I think we’d struggle with the bags, and I’d need to move my driving seat further forward to give the passengers enough legroom. I don’t want to spend a long journey cramped against the steering wheel. I hadn’t fully appreciated the practical space issue at collection.

Would it be reasonable to ring tomorrow and ask whether they can arrange a larger replacement, possibly at another branch? I’m happy to drive somewhere to swap it.

I’m a bit embarrassed about calling in case I’m being overly fussy, especially because I’ve already accepted and used the car. But I booked it for this trip, and I’m worried we’ll have to cancel if we can’t fit comfortably.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Would you call now, or accept it and raise the concern after the rental?

Electrical Will my Alternator survive?

For context I’ve started a project on my car to make it safer to drive at night. I do very long road trips to visit my girlfriend and since seasons exist, doing a 21 hour drive in the winter requires 60% of my drive to be in the Dark.

My question is, for my 2012 Nissan Sentra Spec-V (yes I’m modifying my Sentra, don’t judge me) will the alternator be able to handle the extra electrical load? The sticker on the alternator says it’s rated for 14V 110A which is roughly a maximum of 1500W (though I heard you should never exceed a continuous 80% power draw as that can strain it) so closer to 1200W continuous.

The lights I have installed, combined, draw a total of 210W. I have no idea how much the vehicle itself draws or how much the accessories draw, but will my alternator be able to keep up? Or should I consider upgrading?

Safety Question Inherited my grandpa’s winter beater and I’m already worried about the carpet

My grandpa passed recently and left me his old car which was incrediblly helpful because i needed a daily driver but now im stresing about ruining it. I live in the Rust Belt and the roads are covered in brine and slush. The original tan carpet is already getting that white salt crustt in the fibers and i feel awful watching it happen just from driving to work every day. I want to deal with it before moisture starts sitting against the floorboards and causing rust. I’ve been looking at heavyduty winter liners that can hold slush and road salt but a lot of what I see online looks like generic plastic.

Should i buy thick universal rubber mats from an auto parts store and trim them ?? I’m not much of a car guy. I just want to keep this car going for him.

Body What should I buy for washing my car as a beginner?

W have a 2 year old Škoda Kamiq and a 5-year old black Mercedes A180 (I don’t think it has a matte finish). I need to wash them, so I’ll need some stuffs. I already have a Black & Decker PW1300C pressure washer. I’d like to achieve the best possible results, for starters, I’m looking at using an active foam specifically, Bilt Hamber Active Foam. I’ve read that the foam lances designed for pressure washers aren’t always very precise should I get a manual (pump-action) foamer instead? Would this one be suitable? https://www.nonpaints.com/en/kwazar-venus-super-foamer-pro-2-liter

What else should I pick up? I’d like to apply a wax—or some similar form of protection—after washing. Also, what do I need for removing things like bug splatters and bird droppings?

Safety Question Need help on starting my 2003 e46 after a year

Alright so I have a 2003 e46 and I want to get it started but am a bit nervous about damaging anything, as this car holds sacramental value to me. I already siphoned the gas from the tank after hearing stale gas could occur from the sitting. Should I also get an oil change before I start (like drain old) or start with the old oil and then change? I also have Mobil1 oil that sat in my trunk for a couple years that looks like it is in good condition. Also what should I do after a start, and look out for? I just want help so I can minimize damage and do what is less risky. Help me out.

I need help fixing something Swirl marks (I guess)

Hi, I inherited a car from my grandfather and noticed some minor swirl marks on the hood (photo 1). I have no idea what might have caused them.

They’re only visible when the sunlight hits the paint at a certain angle. You can’t really see them when looking at the hood straight on (photo 2).

Is there any way to remove them?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Not really sure what's going on, it was running fine last night sometimes I had to reset the security because it would lock out the car and not let it start but I was heading to work this morning and this is what's happening now
