I originally started vibe coding a lens designer for my website, but figured it might be useful for Blender users too.
It includes currently 382 historical lens designs (oldest lens is from 1840, newest is from 1982) based on published optical data, patents, and some estimates. You can modify any of them or design your own lens from scratch, then export a Python script that creates a custom camera in Blender (Cycles 5.2+).
I've included some test renders I made myself. I'm no Blender expert, and there might still be bugs or limitations, particularly with fog and volumetric lighting. If you decide to test it, I'd love some feedback on what I can improve. In the future I also want realistic simulated lens flares and chromatic aberration, which is currently lacking, I think it might be a limitation of the technique? Someone mentioned LuxCoreRender might be a good plugin to make an extra realistic simulation?
Thought it might be useful for anyone looking for more unusual lens characteristics and bokeh in their renders.
If you click the "Browse gallery" button and switch to sample view you can see samples of most of these lenses, so it's easier to navigate for non-lens nerds to find a camera profile you like.
It's completely free and will stay that way:
