Its new and updated upon first connection

but no matter what i do i cannot get it to pair to anything i the L1+A slot. The "default" R1+A slot is able to pair to both the machine and the puck. The L1+A plays the sound and the white light, but ignores all connection attempts completely before switching back to the R1+A.

The controller also sometimes just turns itself back on immediately after being turned off.

anyone encountered this? is there a way to factory reset the controller?

Updated controller through steam deck and said it was completed, but now my controller shows this orange light and won't respond to any input I make. I already put in an inquiry with Valve but don't know how long that's going to take. Is there anything that I can do on my end?

Maybe someone can explain this properly to me. I use my steam controller on both my beefy gaming PC and on my power saving Steam Machine.

For some reason I seem to be unable to set it up in a way that the controller works fine with both devices without having to pair it first, basically losing the connection with the first device again, having to redo it the next time around.

I know I can use the puck for PC and the SM has its own internal puck. But how to make it so the right device is targeted. I've read about the Steam button + L1 + A and Steam button + R1 + A, but that does not seem to work properly.

Can somebody explain the setup step by step, who has the same use case and made it work?

I don’t have a video unfortunately, but I randomly tried throwing my controller and it made a MEEOOOWW noise instead of the wilhelm scream! Must’ve been a new update :) I think I’m the first to document this?? Pretty cool either way.

So I joined the reservation queue and waited. Five months went by, and I'd honestly completely forgotten about it.

Then, literally ONE DAY after my birthday, I got the email saying I could finally complete my purchase!

I couldn't believe the timing. What are the odds?! It's like Steam decided to send me the perfect birthday present! 🎁

And to make things even better, just 3 days later, the package was already at my door!

So i was using steam controller, and i changed language from english to russian. By using the language change button(Globe or earth shape), and it vanished, and i cant change it back. Is there any hotkey in virtual keyboard to change language? Help please

Does anyone know if they are still shipping controllers out for this September batch? I’ve been in que since may and nothing. Joined the 512 steam machine que with the controller and same week got the reservation notice to buy. So I left and rejoined the controller and still nothing.

Im not sure if anyone else is having this problem but when I boot the rockstar launcher from steam my controller will only use default desktop settings even though its been fine for months. I also tried changing my desktop keybinds to normal game binds but it still goes back to default in game. I cant add gta itself through steam for some reason, its having conflicts with Rockstar launcher. Anyone know any solutions?

So I haven't used mine in a few weeks and just went to play the new Final Fantasy demo. The Steam button won't bring up Big Picture, but it does focus Steam. When I'm in Big Picture, the Steam button won't bring up the menu either, though I pressed it a few times and the menu did appear (it still didn't open Big Picture, though).
When FF loaded up, I went into the menu and it's just constantly scrolling through the options.
I've tried it in Bluetooth, and wiped and repaired it in both Bluetooth and puck mode. I've read a few threads about the Steam button not working and all my settings seem fine.
I was going to try the new feature where you can set a second Bluetooth pairing with LB+B+Steam button but that just turned thr controller on and didn’t go into pairing mode which makes me thing something bad went wrong when it was updating.

Anyone have any ideas, google didn’t show anyway to factory reset it or anything.

So why is it that when the first Steam Controller came out so many people insisted it was the lack of a d-pad and second Joystick somehow made the controller useless?

Why is it accepted to own any of the above in addition to a traditional gamepad but the Steam Controller didn't got that courtesy?

Why are other controllers allowed to have niches and yet trackpad game controllers are expected to do absolutely everything with no downsides

I joined the reservation queue for the steam controller back in May and my original plan was to get the controller as well as a dock for my deck and then play on my tv that way. But then when the steam machine was announced I joined the waitlist for the version that comes with a controller and kinda just forgot that I even made a reservation for the controller by itself. I just got the email today that my controller is ready for purchase. Should I still get it even though I don’t have a dock or should I just wait on the machine? Keeping in mind that I’m on the waitlist so we don’t currently know when the next batch of steam machines will be available.

Ever since i got the Steam Machine I’ve been obsessed with Deadlock. I bought all these games to play and I’ve only played Deadlock lol I’ve put in like 500 hours. But as some of you may know, for best movement in Deadlock you need to not hold W and hold A or D and angle your camera in that direction. What’s the best way to configure my joystick so that the game doesn’t recognize me as pushing W even if im not perfectly pushing the joystick left or right?

Internet was out so I can't play Arc Raiders, decided to pick up the controller and play Control Resonant. It worked, for like a few minutes, then the game said the Steam Controller disconnected. All buttons didn't do anything. The Home and the 3 Dot button when clicked made the menu sound, but didn't pull up the menu. Restarting the game, same thing happened. Had to use Steamless Controller to actually play the game.

As you can see I'm holding the controller completely still but it drifts a little to the left. Any way I could fix this? Or will I have to RMA it?

Edit for more info: Day one controller, recieved three days after purchase, firt time I'm noticing the issue being this bad though. The firmware is up to date. Issue persists over the puck on my PC and over Bluetooth on my Steamdeck.

Edit edit: Going into Controller Settings, Calibration & Advanced settings, then in Gyro Calibration I enabled 'Enable Software Calibration for Steam Controller' and calibrated again. This fixed the issue for me, it seems that the hardware is in fact faulty but the software can adjust for it. This does mean I have to do this manually for every device I use it on, but I'll take it over a non-functioning gyro sensor.

I just did an update and I now have rumble feedback and I didnt even realise it wasnt doing it 🙃

I was lucky enough to receive a steam controller with my steam machine recently. I love the steam controller! It's the first premium controller I've ever owned: beforehand I was using old Stadia controllers and 8BitDo controllers (which to be fair are really great for the price). I was a huge fan of the steam decks track pads and am loving them on the steam controller. I'm surprised how light the controller is, which is if course great.

However, after only a short amount of time gaming, my hands feel quite sweaty in a way they don't with other controllers. Is this just me?
