I'm a college student and my midterm paper is to just connect some sort of media to a sociology concept we've learned about, and my favorite form of media is movies. I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for a movie that represents racism well. I don't think movies like zootopia or elementals really represents racism well because humans at our core are the same, while in zootopia the predators have a known history of actually hurting prey and in elementals the elementals actually have the capability of hurting each other just by existing together. I might be asking for a movie that doesn't exist, but I was just curious! I love to watch new movies :)

So, I’m meeting my bestfriend after a while now. We wanna smoke up, chill and watch a movie while/after getting high. I want some good interesting movie suggestions that keep us hooked and also don’t require too much of brain power and at the same time isn’t slow and makes us wanna sleep. Preferably movies shorter than 2hrs.
Here are some of the movies I thought of:
Mid90s
Hardcore Henry
Cocaine Bear

hi all.

late-ish gen z here who grew up on tv shows. there is so much discussion online about cinema and film across history, and i would really love to get into it as somebody who does work in the media / entertainment industry and want to do more as well as going to school for it.

ive always preferred shows over movies as ive basically always held the belief that shows (if done correctly) have much more time and space to fully flesh out characters and allow audiences to connect with them and be invested in the plot. however, i recognize that i dont really watch films so this belief of mine is almost certainly very flawed. this view was furthered especially after i stumbled upon "fire of love" (2022) and it completely rocked my world. ever since ive wanted to start to get into film but its so overwhelming and i have zero idea where to start.

i guess ill drop a few of my favourite shows to help?

- person of interst
- normal people
- station eleven
- andor
- forever (2014)
- 86
- blue eye samurai
- 12 monkeys
- violet evergarden
- mindhunter
- dark
- fringe

thanks

yesterday i watched the movie: the evil within and i LOVED IT. i’ve been reading that apparently it belongs in the subgenre of “outsider horror movies” and (even though i know this is such a unique film) i would like to watch something similar. any recommendations?

I’m looking for more movies that are very action heavy and primarily focus on the samurai, I just think they’re so cool. I’ve already watched: Ran, Lady Snowblood, 13 Assassins, Seven Samurai, and Harakiri.

I would prefer if the movies were live action. Whether or not it’s in colour doesn’t matter. Just lots of sword fighting. I don’t mean nonstop action, just very heavy action- but if there is one with nonstop action I’d be interested:)

Just looking for a movie like the Secret Life of Water Mitty but it's not American, I'm from a country that gets a lot of American tourists and the movie just feels really geared towards Americans and them bumbling around my country. It's like About Time, where the character is from an extremely wealthy English family and so the message of the story kind of gets diluted.

Any movie with that same sort of vibe of exploring and discovering yourself and being changed after would do it for me. I'm big into 'Man v Nature' movies, I think I went through a LetterBox playlist of them and had watched all bar one.

1. male protagonist is sucidal, female protagonist saves him

2. female protagonist obsessed with male protagonist.

3. lot of lesbian sex just like in the handmaiden but romance should be main thing

I've been on a Korean kick lately, watching most of the top dogs and a few older ones. I love the style compared to American made movies.

I just watched Hope and I'm ready for more. I'm hoping some really good stuff is coming out soon.

hiii all!! looking for movie recs about relationships where something sinister is going on lol, I just watched I love you forever and I’m in the mood for more dark dramas like that!

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for movie recommendations with this kind of story:

• The main character starts out as a low-energy loser - poor, not good-looking, bad at study or gets rejected by a girl.

By the end, he turns his life around and becomes successful, rich, better-looking, or just wins overall.

Basically the classic underdog-to-success story. ( Will be great if love angle included)

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I’m looking for movies with plots that are completely different from your usual mainstream stuff. The kind of weird movies that somehow manage to be interesting. You know, movies that are way outside the mainstream. Bonus points if they’re B-movies!

Movies with scenes that feel claustrophobic? Bonus for horror, thriller or sci-fi, but the genre can be any.

Any decade or language is fine with me, just need English Subtitles.

Bonus for female main character, not necessary, but would be nice to see.

The Lighthouse or Devil to give you an idea.

disabled but feeling extra sick, nauseous, and in pain from a flare up and zapped of energy and distracted by all that, but always reserved night time for the more "spectacular" seeming looking movies instead of yk any low stakes rom com i can watch in the daytime with glare all over the tv etc

so not nighttime movies as in horrors or movies literally at night, but sometimes yea if its hard to see with glare half the time

but also not something too hard to follow, so something in english, something not too elaborate, can be totally mid and just turn my brain off to, yk, idk
would be nice if it was slightly well known or older so i can mark it off the big bucket list of iconic movies

it doesn't have to be necessarily about a family, but i'm looking for movies where a group of people gather for a normal get together, and then things get worse and worse and everything goes to shit. it can be any genre and language.

examples: you're next, the invitation, coherence, silent night, game night

thanks.

Recently I've been into movies that have just sat with me for a while if that makes sense. Stuff like midsommar, pearl, obsession, horror pyschological movies. Or just movies with so much action I can't get the fight scenes out of my head like the twilight movies or the marvel movies. I'll reply with my reviews!

I’m looking for movies that are as campy and fun as rocky horror picture show. I fell in love with that movie and I’m desperately wanting more. Any recs?

Movies like Shutter Island, Fight Club, Cube, Resident Evil, The Shining, Se7en, The Others etc.. movies with suspense depth and plot twists.
Will actually love to hear about all kinds of movie recommendations but these are the main ones since reddit requires being specific.

I am not even a fan of heart-pulling movies, some I have not even finished. My 19 month old saw a doggy, as we were searching Netflix a few days ago. I read what it was about. Then I read if it is suitable for children. It was, and, Based on a true story!!

We didn't make it to the end of the movie the first sitting, and, I found myself wanting to finish it!

It has a lot of perservance, and accepting differences, wonderful for those that love animals--and, the heart-warming story--that actually happened.

I think I may be changing my view on the heart-pulling movies, thanks to this one. I finished it today and already want to watch it again soon.

I hope that if you check it out, you will enjoy it too 😊

I love nfe films and generally just disturbing movies, also id like to stay away from nudity seeing as i live with my siblings. some I've already seen and liked, Martyrs (2008), high tension (2003), them (2006), and when evil lurks (2023).

hi!

i recently watched Kurosawa's 2001 film Pulse/Kairo and was wondering if anyone could suggest any other movies that touch on themes of social isolation, especially due to the advent of the internet. it does not have to be horror or specifically a japanese movie, but i would prefer something atmospheric/moody

thanks!

Hosting a film discussion group and our December film theme is "Last Chapter" - it is intentionally vague to get a wide variety of films (think: end of the year, an actor or director's last film, the end of a series, or book themed- a movie about books, or authors, or writing).

I am trying to get a variety of movies in the vote list and am trying to fill these categories (Good Documentaries are the hardest to find):

• Pre 1970
• 1970-2010
• Post 2010
• Non-English
• Documentary
• Indie/ Low Budget

I'd love to hear the movie (and year if the name is similar)- and if it is not a spoiler, how the movie fits the theme (but I can do the research if needed).

This is weirdly niche and specific question, but I'm going to ask anyway. There is a novella by Prosper Merimee called Carmen from, I think 1845 or 46. I have seen that there are a number of movie, opera, and musical adaptations. If anyone has by some chance read the original novella and has watched any of the non-musical movie adaptations, which one in your opinion is closest to the source material? It could be anything from an old silent film to something released this past year, just not a musical please.

recently i watched a bunch of movies some were really good few were boring. fanboying on memento since i watched and after i followed some other recommendations like predestination and prestige they were good but not like that. some great thrillers also like weapons and prisoners. the least liked films were tenet and zodiac(watched it in 2 days)

the whole context of above is that while all of that i watched coherence and it was like truly something different and also like not stretched . i am not asking for anything like that but wanna see something that i just don't regret. maybe something is there which i must be missing out on

PS: ik this post will be taken down but this is the only subreddit where i get genuine recommendations and fast too.

A have a school assignment where I have to watch a movie with a plot summary that demonstrates an ethical dilemma for an organization. It can be a documentary as well. Just hoping to find something good that really fits the topic so I can write about it!
Thanks
