Recommendations Jimmy McGovern - Broken

Here from the Time series 3 thread. If you haven't seen it already, Broken is definitely a drama I don't think I could recommend any higher. I have the DVD, I've seen it several times since buying it and amongst all the great one off and serial dramas by Jimmy McGovern - this is easily the best in my opinion.

There are so many interwoven stories and the acting by the entire cast is just incredible - Sean Bean is simply mesmerising as Father Michael. Each story becomes intertwined as the series progresses and whilst some of it is a difficult watch - the production, the acting and the storytelling simply take you to another place.

For those of you like me who may have found S3 of Time slightly underwhelming, please if you can set an evening aside to watch Broken. You won't be disappointed!

Question/Discussion Switching Channels

Just watching Mock The Week, which used to be on BBC2 and is now on TLC and I started thinking about other programmes which moved from one broadcaster to another. I know Men Behaving Badly transferred from Thames to BBC2 and The Morecambe & Wise Show went the other way with, shall we say, mixed results. Not including channels like Dave, which basically just shows reruns, are there any other examples of shows switching channels?

Edit : I just remembered Neighbours, which moved from BBC1 to Channel 5 in the UK and, interestingly, from Network 7 to Network 10 in Australia.

Also apologies to Dave, for the unnecessary disparagement!

Question/Discussion Most unlikeable TV couple?

Binge watching Ann Droid today and I really love every part of this show that doesn't include these two. They've got to be the most unlikeable couple I've ever seen on TV.

New Show Break clause

Another one I haven't seen anyone else discuss, what did you think?

It reminded me of Lovesick and Starstruck, not quite as polished but good for an early career writer, with a great side cast.

Question/Discussion Are there any current TV ads that you actually like?

There’s plenty of justifiable hatred towards many ads on at the moment, but there must be some good and/or funny ones that you like?

Question/Discussion Is Blue Lights policing accurate?

I live in the states and have a question about the police in Northern Ireland. I've seen on the show multiple occasions of police officers being attacked, their requests being completely ignored and riots where officers get attacked and they seem to just let these people leave right after the situation is contained. Is this normal practice for law enforcement in the area, or just embellishments for the sake of story?

Question/Discussion Who is (or looks like) this uncredited actor in Shakespeare and Hathaway

In Shakespeare and Hathaway S05E06 at 36:14 there is a police man that seems incredibly familiar to me. Looks like an actor I've seen in roles in action movies, possible American. No credits, Google Lens has no idea and Googling didn't help. Maybe he just looks like someone, maybe it's a cameo? Please help!

Blue Planet 2 led to a lot of laws combating plastic use in the UK. Do you think this one will have a similar impact?

Question/Discussion Does anyone ever renemner these two guys at all?

Does anyone out there ever remember like John Clarke and Bryan Dawe and there weeklybsegment where they made like a satire version of like an interviewer sitting down with a politician with John Clarke acting like the polly and Bryan Dawe the interviewer with John full on taking the piss out of things that were said by the politicians that week pretty much as to me that was purely Aussie humour gold in the best way possible no matter what.

I’m so disappointed by this. I started watching it mainly because it was filmed in my home city. However, it’s really poor. On episode 3 of 6 but I don’t think I can bring myself to finish it.

Question/Discussion After season 27... (Midsomer Murders)

There isn't news that Neil and/or Nick are leaving, so I expect them to stay on for season 27 at the end of 2027 also.

That will mean that Neill had 13 seasons as the lead character, and Nick 9 seasons as the DS.

That's a lot. Tom had the "pilot" episode and the first 13 seasons until he left.

It would be cool, if they revitalize the show after that. We need a big change because the show became something else around seasons 17 and 18. It's fun to watch while you're iron your clothes, but that's it.

I hope an old DS or Sgt. comes back to pick up the mantle as the new lead for the show, like a Ben Jones or even Troy... if not someone completely new and not a Barnaby. And a female DS/sgt. would also be interesting for once.

Or do you think the show should end with Neill?

Question/Discussion Help - does anyone remember this 2000s documentary?

Hi,

I've recently remembered a TV documentary from late 2000s/early 2010s about a male dominatrix who wants to quit his line of work to become a boxer again. It was quite bleak, fly on the wall style documentary about this bloke's BDSM work and his boxing ambitions. He ultimately ends up losing his last boxing match.

I seem to remember it being sex in a Northern seaside town, his sex dungeon is in the basement of his terrace house. There's one scene where the camera crew sit in his living room while screams of a client can be heard from the muffled basement.

I cannot find any evidence of it online and it's driving me mad. Think it was probably Channel 4... Any ideas?
