Milton's municipal election is Monday, October 26, 2026. This megathread will address the many opinionated election postings, so that they can be expressed in one condensed posting. This thread is the place for general election discussion on r/Milton. Comment default sort has been set to "New".
Use this thread for: discussing candidates and their platforms, sharing who you're voting for and why, and asking how voting works. Disagree with the idea, not the person.
Standalone posts are still allowed for news articles, candidate debate announcements, new developments with a link to a source, and sourced posts about a specific local issue (use the Election flair). Other election posts will be removed and redirected here.
How to vote
Advance voting: Oct. 12 to 15, at any advance location
Election Day: Mon, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at any polling station in your ward
Vote by mail: mail your kit by Oct. 15, or drop it off at Town Hall by 8 p.m. on Oct. 26
Who can vote: Canadian citizens 18+ who live in Milton, or who (or whose spouse) own or rent property here.
Bring: one document showing your name and Milton address. A driver's licence is the most common, but it doesn't need a photo, so a utility bill, bank statement, or lease also works. Health cards usually don't show your address, so bring something that does. See Accepted ID.
Not on the voters' list, or want to check? You can be added at the polls with that same ID. Check the list
What's on the ballot
Mayor
Regional Councillor and Town Councillor for your ward
School board trustee for the school system you support
Soon, candidates for the upcoming Milton election will be hosting AMAs on r/Milton. This is a chance to learn about the many candidates and better understand their political platforms. We're hoping this fosters in-depth, educational discussion and helps cut through the campaign noise.
This is open to any certified candidate in the 2026 election, no matter what office you're running for, whether that's Mayor, Regional or Town Council, or school board trustee. You can check the Town's full list of certified candidates to confirm who's officially in the race.
How to host an AMA as a candidate
An AMA (Ask Me Anything) is a constructive way for a community to ask questions to the host. AMAs will be hosted through the built-in Reddit feature. See the full guide on how to host a Reddit AMA here.
First, message the r/Milton mods through modmail. Let us know who you are and that you're planning to do an AMA.
As part of that message, include a photo of yourself holding up something with your Reddit username on it, so we can confirm you're actually who you say you are. You're welcome to also include that photo in your AMA post itself, but that’s optional.
After being given the go-ahead, use Reddit's AMA post feature to create and schedule your AMA, typically a couple days out to let questions build. Your post description should include a short intro (who you are, what office you're running for), plus a link to your campaign website or platform.
Once you're live, we'd suggest keeping the AMA open and checking back over a day or two so people who comment later on can still be answered.
Normal subreddit rules apply for the whole thread, so keep questions and answers civil.
This guy's motive is just engagement farming and get famous through his sickening campaign. All of his campaign material and all comments/replies on his Facebook are autogenerated by AI. I would urge everyone not to engage, even a disqualification will give him the opportunity of stating that they disqualified me because they knew that I am going to win.
He needs a psychiatric treatment. He has always proven himself "skunk at the garden party"
Moving into the indoor season, I've been trying to find local people to play badminton with regularly here in Milton.
A few of us have been organizing casual drop-in sessions and court times at local spots like the Milton Sports Centre and Leisure Centre, but we’re always looking to meet more local players of different skill levels.
If anyone is trying to find regular hitting partners or wants to join a local group chat for weekend/evening games, drop a comment or shoot me a DM!
Would love to connect with other players in the area. 🏸
Thank you admin for approving the post and help.
I'm honestly in shock. My wife is in excruciating pain and is only 7 days postpartum. I took her to Milton Hospital's Emergency Room and I checked that it said it is roughly 3 hours to see a doctor. We've been here for 3 hours waiting on a preliminary blood work. At this rate I expect we'd only see the doctor 6-7 hours later. The online wait times are broken and it's sad to feel that the system is pretty broken.
I hope you all enjoy this picture I took this afternoon, I’m messing around with exposure bracketing. We’re very lucky to have such close access to so many of the Halton Conservation sites :)
Zainab Azim's flyer is a masterclass in promising things a Milton mayor cannot deliver. I read it as a voter, not a researcher. Here's my view:
She has never held elected office, and this flyer reads like she doesn't know what the job is. Almost everything on here — transit, GO trains, policing, universities — needs a council majority plus the Region, the province, or Metrolinx to agree. A mayor proposes and lobbies. She doesn't get to announce these as deliverables. The flyer is written for applause lines, not for how the job actually works. That should worry you.
"Buses every 20 minutes." Current frequency is 35 minutes on weekdays — that's the town's own number from its September 2025 announcement. Going to 20 means roughly 75% more buses on the frequent routes. The town's net transit cost is $46.76 per resident (2024), and the transit plan already budgets $1.1M in 2026 and $1.5M in 2027 for modest expansions. Town-wide 20-minute service would cost several million more per year, every year — my estimate, but the order of magnitude is right. That's higher taxes or cuts elsewhere. And for what? The town's own 2023 survey found transit satisfaction at 42%, and residents said multiple cars have become a necessity. Milton is a bedroom community — people leave town to work because the jobs aren't here. Nobody is abandoning a financed car because the bus comes more often. This is a massive recurring bill for a service most households won't use.
"All-day GO." Fantasy. Two-way all-day GO on the Milton line needs dedicated tracks or a freight bypass — roughly a $6 billion provincial project with no funding, no timeline, and no construction started. Mayors have lobbied for this for 25 years and nothing has been delivered. A mayor can ask Queen's Park nicely. That's it. Putting it on a flyer as a mayoral promise is misleading, full stop.
"Careers close to home." Noble idea. But businesses locate where the market tells them to, not where a flyer tells them to. What is she actually proposing to create market demand? Milton businesses are dealing with US-Canada trade tensions and cost pressure — they're cutting costs, not opening satellite offices because a mayor asked nicely. And Ontario's Municipal Act (s.106) generally bars towns from handing cash or sweetheart deals to private businesses. So what's the mechanism? The flyer doesn't say, because there isn't one.
"Education Village: Innovation Hub." The Education Village already exists. Laurier opened its Milton academic centre in September 2024. Conestoga opened Milton campuses in 2024. Done — by the province and the town, before she filed to run. What does adding the word "hub" change? And universities are provincial jurisdiction, not municipal. This is taking credit for someone else's finished work and rebranding it.
Entertainment square, faster snow clearing, more policing. All good ideas. All cost money. Who pays? The family living paycheck to paycheck. The parents saving for their kids while supporting family. The people working two jobs to survive this economy, watching most of their paycheque go to a mortgage, a couple of missed payments from disaster. Anyone can write "brilliant" ideas on a flyer. Governing means saying what it costs and who pays. She doesn't.
"Alive After Five." The silliest item on the flyer. An entertainment square and more parks and community space are already in the town's own downtown plans — she's rebranding existing work as her vision. The rest is a vibe, not a policy: no price tag, no timeline, no specifics. And "Alive After Five" implies the town is dead before 5 — tell that to everyone whose day ends well after 5 because they're working, commuting, or raising kids.
The credentials. The flyer lists Harvard Teaching Fellow, Minister of Finance's office, UN Ambassador, Mamdani campaign. Some of it checks out — her Mamdani campaign role is confirmed by an independent organizing network. But let's be clear about what a field organizer is: it's entry-level campaign infantry — knocking doors, managing volunteers, working 80-hour weeks. No credential required; thousands of 22-year-olds do it every cycle. It's a skill for winning elections, not for running a city. Nothing about it teaches you to read a municipal budget, chair a council, or navigate the Municipal Act. And the government claims are self-reported; I couldn't find any independent record of the Finance Minister's office role. Impressive titles on a flyer aren't verification. Voters deserve to know the difference between a claim and a confirmed record — and between campaigning and governing.
Bottom line: read the flyer again and count the price tags. There are none. Every one of these promises either needs council + the province + millions of dollars, or it's already underway from previous councils. She's selling a vision she can't deliver, at a cost she won't name, to voters she assumes won't check. Don't be that voter.
After researching, I realized that these are the best candidates. But I am torn between Gord and George. What convinced you of either of them? I would like to know your opinion.
Edit: seems to be a major outage and not just limited to Milton 😭
Update: DNS issue, widespread on Cogeco side. You can update DNS setting to manual on your mesh or router to 8.8.8.8 and this should fix it 🥳
Please use Gemini or ChatGPT for the exact steps for your router mesh model.
I use a deco mesh & here are the steps -
More -> internet connection -> internet settings -> ipv4 -> “DnS address” select manual and enter 8.8.8.8 for primary dns and 1.1.1.1 for secondary
I had family visiting from abroad and planned the scenic route to show off how clean and quiet our town is.
The moment we exited the highway, that illusion died under a mountain of corrugated plastic.
Every boulevard, median, and intersection looks like an outdoor stationery warehouse exploded. Four candidates crammed onto a three-foot curb, blocking sightlines for right turns, their laminated faces glaring at each other. My cousin looked out the window and deadpan asked:
“Is this a protest, or did someone drop a shipment of billboards?”
No undecided voter in human history has ever sat at a red light, looked at a crooked plastic sign skewered into the mud, and whispered: “Dave’s sans-serif font really speaks to me. He gets my vote.”
It’s visual pollution, a traffic hazard, and guaranteed landfill the morning after election day. Can we finally ban these things on public property?
Hi! I’m planning to visit rattlesnake point the next week. I would like to book or to buy the parking spot in advance but I can’t find any information. Can I just go and pay it there? Thank you!
Due to some requests to show a few more of the hazards removed from playgrounds, here is post #3 for this year. Depending on how much I get done before winter, I will probably have one more post before the season ends.
The knife i found was in the playground behind St. Peter's elementary school. I contacted the police about it because it was close to swings and obviously deliberately placed there.
PSA: Today, around 6:20 am, I spotted a pack of at least 5 coyotes walking and howling loudly near the Clark neighborhood pond (Laurier and Tupper). Be careful if you have kids that roam around that area alone.
This cute guy has been roaming by backyard for a few days. He has an orange spot at the front that looks as if it has been coloured on as an indicator it’s a pet. So I thought I’d ask if this guy is anyones.
Hi everyone. I've started collecting vhs and was wondering if anyone has any shelves that they're giving away? I'm also looking for a 8 head vcr which I've been told is better quality compared to a 4 head machine.
This feels quite intrusive to me.. I have never received a text asking me to vote ever while I’ve lived in Milton— it strikes me as slightly odd. I wonder how they obtained my number. Are they simply broadcasting this to anyone with a Milton area code?
I have been metal detecting our city's playgrounds for hazards while my little one plays and I have pulled out about 80 sharp objects over the last year! I have been to about 22 parks.
I have also found many rings and I would LOVE to return them to their rightful owners. SO, if you of someone you know lost any rings, or anything metal and valubal to you in the woodchips at a playgound in Milton, that you would like returned to you, please DM ME a description of the object and approximately where you lost it.
I have logged everything I found and the date/location of them so I will be able to verify.
For the past few years i’ve been vehemently trying to combat the dumb racist you people who blame indian’s for the decline of jobs and food quality at tim Hortons but my god am I so tired. I don’t drink coffee due to me just hating how it tasted, so I usually drink lemonade, the refreshers, or hot chocolate and probably around 85%-90% of the drinks that are made are wrong, watered down or taste like shit. the literal only time I had one that tasted good was when my friends made it while on shift. I feel like this decline is really spreading this racist wave and it’s so disappointing. I remember the first time I ever tried the grilled cheese, it was like literally magic in 2014. now? my friend literally refused to sell it to me because she knew I wouldn’t like it/get disappointed. It honestly feels like the costumer service is also terrible. obviously there are special workers who make amazing drinks and make you laugh, but they are very rare. I get how tiring working is, but sometimes the behaviour is borderline rude. I don’t know if i’m just an entitled gen z, but i’d honestly rather someone make a fire drink and call me an idiot than be eh and make a horrible drink. anyways this was my rant. Honestly I don’t even care about the costumer service, but if you work at tim hortons, just please make good food.
