Election I have a glamorous plan (who cares about the pricetag ?)
Zainab Azim's flyer is a masterclass in promising things a Milton mayor cannot deliver. I read it as a voter, not a researcher. Here's my view:
She has never held elected office, and this flyer reads like she doesn't know what the job is. Almost everything on here — transit, GO trains, policing, universities — needs a council majority plus the Region, the province, or Metrolinx to agree. A mayor proposes and lobbies. She doesn't get to announce these as deliverables. The flyer is written for applause lines, not for how the job actually works. That should worry you.
"Buses every 20 minutes." Current frequency is 35 minutes on weekdays — that's the town's own number from its September 2025 announcement. Going to 20 means roughly 75% more buses on the frequent routes. The town's net transit cost is $46.76 per resident (2024), and the transit plan already budgets $1.1M in 2026 and $1.5M in 2027 for modest expansions. Town-wide 20-minute service would cost several million more per year, every year — my estimate, but the order of magnitude is right. That's higher taxes or cuts elsewhere. And for what? The town's own 2023 survey found transit satisfaction at 42%, and residents said multiple cars have become a necessity. Milton is a bedroom community — people leave town to work because the jobs aren't here. Nobody is abandoning a financed car because the bus comes more often. This is a massive recurring bill for a service most households won't use.
"All-day GO." Fantasy. Two-way all-day GO on the Milton line needs dedicated tracks or a freight bypass — roughly a $6 billion provincial project with no funding, no timeline, and no construction started. Mayors have lobbied for this for 25 years and nothing has been delivered. A mayor can ask Queen's Park nicely. That's it. Putting it on a flyer as a mayoral promise is misleading, full stop.
"Careers close to home." Noble idea. But businesses locate where the market tells them to, not where a flyer tells them to. What is she actually proposing to create market demand? Milton businesses are dealing with US-Canada trade tensions and cost pressure — they're cutting costs, not opening satellite offices because a mayor asked nicely. And Ontario's Municipal Act (s.106) generally bars towns from handing cash or sweetheart deals to private businesses. So what's the mechanism? The flyer doesn't say, because there isn't one.
"Education Village: Innovation Hub." The Education Village already exists. Laurier opened its Milton academic centre in September 2024. Conestoga opened Milton campuses in 2024. Done — by the province and the town, before she filed to run. What does adding the word "hub" change? And universities are provincial jurisdiction, not municipal. This is taking credit for someone else's finished work and rebranding it.
Entertainment square, faster snow clearing, more policing. All good ideas. All cost money. Who pays? The family living paycheck to paycheck. The parents saving for their kids while supporting family. The people working two jobs to survive this economy, watching most of their paycheque go to a mortgage, a couple of missed payments from disaster. Anyone can write "brilliant" ideas on a flyer. Governing means saying what it costs and who pays. She doesn't.
"Alive After Five." The silliest item on the flyer. An entertainment square and more parks and community space are already in the town's own downtown plans — she's rebranding existing work as her vision. The rest is a vibe, not a policy: no price tag, no timeline, no specifics. And "Alive After Five" implies the town is dead before 5 — tell that to everyone whose day ends well after 5 because they're working, commuting, or raising kids.
The credentials. The flyer lists Harvard Teaching Fellow, Minister of Finance's office, UN Ambassador, Mamdani campaign. Some of it checks out — her Mamdani campaign role is confirmed by an independent organizing network. But let's be clear about what a field organizer is: it's entry-level campaign infantry — knocking doors, managing volunteers, working 80-hour weeks. No credential required; thousands of 22-year-olds do it every cycle. It's a skill for winning elections, not for running a city. Nothing about it teaches you to read a municipal budget, chair a council, or navigate the Municipal Act. And the government claims are self-reported; I couldn't find any independent record of the Finance Minister's office role. Impressive titles on a flyer aren't verification. Voters deserve to know the difference between a claim and a confirmed record — and between campaigning and governing.
Bottom line: read the flyer again and count the price tags. There are none. Every one of these promises either needs council + the province + millions of dollars, or it's already underway from previous councils. She's selling a vision she can't deliver, at a cost she won't name, to voters she assumes won't check. Don't be that voter.

I think logically a 23 year old’s first job shouldn’t be a Mayor even if the town is small.
If I was her, I would work in public offices, gain experience and then work my way up. She has not managed a household, a team etc. Theoretically, most plans sound good and look good on paper. Practically, it’s very different and it can test your nerves.
Regardless, I appreciate and acknowledge her efforts. I don’t think many people have the confidence or energy (including myself) to run an election campaign let alone a 23 year old.
15
u/littlepino34 2d ago
It should've be an 89 year olds job either
13
u/Charming_Party_2052 2d ago
never said it was..cognitive decline is real and there should be an upper age limit as well.

The counter argument is that it’s precisely because of her relative inexperience that she’s daring to think ambitiously, if unrealistically. Spending years in civil service before running for office could make her just like everyone else. Jaded, complacent, “realistic”. Seriously, who wants that anymore?
I don’t live in Milton but man I just want my civil leaders to have a little more naive optimism and bigger dreams sometimes.
21
u/Bobcaygeon23 2d ago
Yeah she’s exactly who I want sitting across the table from a team of CN lawyers….
8
u/Charming_Party_2052 2d ago
Okay fair point to some extent but imagine, you start your career at 23 year and the first job you get is a Director or a VP. What would happen? Even though you have a vision but you need alot of experience to influence or change things.
Even when we get a manager or a supervisor who’s new or less experienced, team doesnt respect them.

“I don’t live in Milton” is crazy work.
FYI because of the higher stakes (CN) for residents of Milton- it’s not wise to blindly dream big. Rather we need someone with experience AND optimism. Blind optimism isn’t what im willing to bet on. I’m 32 now so I’m not far from remembering my mid- 20s & starting my career, when you’re young and just starting out you have many blind spots/ weaknesses and you’ll make mistakes and learn and grow which is expected. However, is that a wise choice for mayor? Heck no - people with family and children that live here, own property, can’t take a risk just for her career milestone→ More replies (5)1

Even Mamdani and El Sayed have run for office multiple times and held positions. El Sayed is a Doctor.
So even if you are the socialist DSA folk, they have experience too. Generally, these folk are in their mid 30s or older. Not 23 or 24 year olds.

u/Arcade1980 2d ago
For me across Milton, Oakville, Georgetown, Brampton all candidates remind me of real estate agents, it seems this is their career progression, has nothing to do with the city's and the quality of life for its citizens. They are just sales people with empty promises and nothing to deliver.
1
u/Sad_Times654 7h ago
Bang on! We need less salespeople. I will vote for anyone who will kill the professions of: car salesmen and RE agents.

u/chipdanger168 2d ago
I'm more concerned with what she will do for her dad if she wins. Tons of conflict of interest.
4
u/Admirable-Orchid-345 2d ago
I hear you but I'm sticking to what's on the flyer. Guessing about future favors is a different conversation and I don't have anything solid there.
11
u/chipdanger168 2d ago
Look at her financials and where she is running her campaign out of. Her dad is bank rolling a lot for her
2
u/Sad_Times654 7h ago
Her Dad has bankrolled her entire life: from her private schooling, the space tickets, her harvard degree. She will have a very different PoV from somone who had to struggle here.

Although I like Mamdani for NY, I don’t like her using her volunteer experience helping with his campaign as any relevant qualification. It feels like she is trying to say “I met Obama once!” And then using Mamdani aesthetic is just way too tacky. Why would anyone want a copycat? 😔.. also she was a space4women un mentor not a UN Ambassador like either a goodwill ambassador like Angelina Jolie or an official diplomatic ambassador to the UN. Like she is intentionally conflating it. That’s not cool, just run as yourself with your own qualifications, aesthetic and ideas. It’s cool that you were a space4women mentor. Don’t say ambassador, you aren’t a UN ambassador.

u/Quirky-Cat2860 2d ago
Yeah the "all day GO" is just fantasy. It's a provincial issue, and our current MPP is just as useless as the last one. Zee has been nothing more than a disappointment. Just a clapping seal who'll support Doug as long as it means he gets a nice minister portfolio.

u/DayOfTheDeb 1d ago
If Mississauga hasn't been able to fight for all day GO, I doubt Milton will...

Genuinely curious as to why a Canadian was volunteering in an American Mayoral campaign and is now listing that as one of their credentials while running for office in Canada.
24
u/shepherdgirl4shep 2d ago
This whole thing makes me very uncomfortable.
Reads like a carefully orchestrated plan for power by someone .. daddy?, others? … with mayor or mayoral candidate as just one more stepping stone to her (or her handlers’) ultimate power grab. Un Ambassador (really?, she applied as a teen to a UN “equality for women in stem” program by calling herself a “future astronaut” - and the position is not called an “Ambassador”). Harvard Educator (really? she’s a glorified teaching assistant … that’s good for her, and impressive, but the hyperbole is jarring and it’s not a qualification for mayor of one of canada‘s top-50 sized communities). Experienced Campaign Expert (Mamdani New York campaign … cringe). And so many more hyperbolic claims.
And the completely ridiculous overkill of signs. Smacks of trying to buy an election, it’s just so over the top.
6
u/Zealousideal-Hour-54 1d ago
Its such a gross misrepresentation of who she is. I’m surprised Dr. Marshall Ganz endorsed a nepo baby for mayor of Milton. Not exactly the grassroots organizing Ganz writes books about. This is embarrassing.

Shes 23 years old. Is this a joke or is she being serious? There should be an age limit like atleast 28 or 30. I dont know 1 person that actually has a grip on reality at 23

Yes. And bragging about her American education. Like, read the room.

Harvard is an elite school in the world. Many people from around the globe study there. Why wouldn't someone be proud of that?
I understand but Canadian sentiment, but are we suppose to scrub our resumes and stop all association with the US

Paying your way into Harvard is a time-honored tradition.

Lol! Next time let's just round up the grads from bishop Redding... Btw Isn't there a local college grad also running?
1
u/SteakOk9383 1d ago
In Azim's case her scummy father literally paid to get her admitted.
1
u/Winter-Squirrel-6744 1d ago
Forgive my ignorance... I haven't been following her this much. What's the deal with the father?? When you say he paid to get her admitted do you mean the fees to run as a mayor, as opposed to fundraising?
-9
u/Winter-Squirrel-6744 2d ago
Well, he did win. I think it shows that she was part of a winning campaign and has experience.
Wouldn't you want to add your successes to your resume?
8
u/oryxii 2d ago
I don’t think a 20 something volunteer contributed anything that caused Mamdani to win lmao. Good experience in terms of getting involved with politics but she did not contribute to campaign strategies or policies besides knocking on doors probably.
Why I know this to be true? Because if she did anything of measurable or of an impactful value, she’d be shouting it from the roof tops rather than vaguely saying she worked on his campaign.
1
7
u/ShredsGuitar 2d ago
Well, will you support someone who worked on Trump reelection campaign? Trump did win too ?
If you want to volunteer, then why not volunteer in Canadian politics?
1
u/Winter-Squirrel-6744 2d ago
I don't know..I'm just stating the logic of her including that on her flyer.
11
u/OkRB2977 2d ago
Idk, maybe it's just me, but I find it a little strange for a Canadian citizen to have been volunteering in a foreign country's mayoral campaign and using that to boost her credentials. Especially since Zainab is not a dual citizen and was in the US in her capacity as a student, plus we need to stop viewing American politics as a benchmark for anything. Our political culture, system, and needs are entirely different.
8
u/UsernameChecksOut909 2d ago
100%. What’s she going to do for Milton and how would she do it if elected? More questions than answers but helping a mayor in a foreign country win an election is nothing but filler for a resume that’s sorely lacking.
0
u/Winter-Squirrel-6744 2d ago
Would you feel more confident in someone that has been part of a winning campaign from New York city or, iqaluit? This example illuatrates that even Canadian cities are not comparable to Milton, and New York is a closer match.
I'm not saying she's the best candidate, but it's just her using her experience to demonstrate that she could be a good fit.
Having worldly experience is great. They can bring ideas that they experienced.
It's just like going to a new job.. if you only hire within the organization your ideas will just be the same old. But hiring outside brings the potential of new ideas.
What if they told sports organization they can only have players that were born in their city. That would be unfair.
8
u/Hamoudi31 2d ago
To what extent was she part of the campaign? If she just knocked on some doors for a day, don’t think it’s fair for her to include that on her campaign material.
0
3
u/OkRB2977 2d ago
You don't hire a newbie fresh out of university to head a department either. They do the grunt work and grow from there.
I love that she's worldly and has a diverse outlook; we need that, but maybe first at the Council rather than directly in a Mayoral capacity. Having a real full-time job and a career would also give her a much-needed perspective.
1
u/Zealousideal-Hour-54 1d ago
It’s not HER success tho.
You seem to be awfully defensive of this candidate. Do you see any flaws in her campaigning or exaggerations?
0
u/Winter-Squirrel-6744 1d ago
Not really defensive. Just looking at it from another lense. It's not her success, but she was a part of it.
Its typical that people exaggerate things on their resume. Have you ever been on LinkedIn??
3
u/Zealousideal-Hour-54 1d ago
Fair enough, looking at it pragmatically is a good thing. It's super important to look at it from both sides to be an informed voter, since no candidate is perfect. So on the flip side, what are your criticisms of her and her campaign?
And yes, plenty of people exaggerate on their resumes, and HR and experienced professionals spot it right away and don’t take those people seriously. That's exactly what happened here. Zainab tried her hand at it and came across as naive, scammy, and uninformed, and people with far more experience saw right through it and are poking holes in it.
0
u/Winter-Squirrel-6744 1d ago
It's politics! Are you expecting everyone to be 100% honest and specific..lol
8
8
u/RileyArez 1d ago
She has no actual qualifications that make her a suitable candidate. Volunteering for an american mayoral campaign doesn't mean anything in this context. On top of that, she just copied mandami. Weird and unsettling.

u/Exciting_Transition6 1d ago
Bro she went to Harvard😂😂😂
2

2
u/Winter-Squirrel-6744 2d ago
Of course! Some candidates just run to get the experience and run again. Brad Bradford in Toronto has done that a couple times. Alvin tedji and Deepak dilmera from Mississauga has lost a handful of elections. Getting you name out there, experience and striking when the fire is hot.
1
u/DayOfTheDeb 1d ago
Alvin Tedjo is a councillor and didn't run for mayor until he had gained that experience?
1
u/LowIQBaseballFan 8h ago
He's ran and lost at almost every level to get his name out as much as possible anywhere he can. By the 2030s he should be running for Federal Liberal leadership if the trend continues:
2014 lost Mississauga council
2018 lost Oakville-North Burlington in provincial election
2018 won school board trustee in Mississauga
2020 lost Ontario Liberal leadership
2022 won Mississauga council
2024 lost Mississauga mayoral campaign
2026 likely lose Mississauga mayoral campaign but better showing

Hopefully she doesn't, she literally said the council positions are beneath her in the AMA. So idk. Even if she does, do you want someone like that?

For volunteering a bunch of places, probably required if she was gunning for a masters.

He’s full of it and a wasted vote. However, it’s surprising that Milton has nearly zero office space. Myself and my coworker were looking for something in Milton and nothing was available.

Maybe y'all can open up in one of the condos that are being built in the middle of farmland in 4 directions.
Like be real, condos are supposed to be built near something, here they just build them in the middle of farmland or a bunch of houses.
1
u/Capricorn7Seven 6h ago
Milton was classified as a Place to Build under the Wynne/McGuinty government. All of our cities and towns were once farmland.
Milton’s urban planning department and official plan is an embarrassment.
1
u/Sad_Times654 6h ago
I agree it was farmland, but condos are built around something. In Toronto it is the Downtown hub, in Sauga it is Square One hub and Erin Mill Town center, in Brampton it's around the Bramelea city center.
Here they are just being drop shipped in between houses with zero regard for traffic implications, nor with anything to go to.
1
u/Capricorn7Seven 5h ago
How do you think Toronto is originally built and all the suburbs, the exact same thing?
1
u/Sad_Times654 5h ago
They didn't start by builiding condos in the middle of farmland. They built detached, semis then townhouses, then market/commercial areas, industry then comes the condos.
Otherwise, it's just a refuge center.
1
u/Capricorn7Seven 5h ago
You’re right they didn’t build condos back in the middle of farmland back in the day. They were apartment buildings then and they were in the middle of nowhere Mississauga back in North York back in Scarborough.

man , idc what you say, we need better transit
6
u/Admirable-Orchid-345 2d ago
Not against better transit, it's bad and we all know it. My problem isn't the goal, it's the flyer. She printed "20 minutes" with no price tag and no plan to pay for it. That's millions extra every single year, which means higher taxes or cuts somewhere else. And a mayor can't just do it, council has to pass the budget. The town already has a transit plan running to 2029 with expansions funded. So yeah, transit should improve. Question is whether you trust someone promising the most expensive version with zero math behind it.
1
6
u/r0ugh_road 2d ago
Flyer is a masterclass in over inflating everything she's done. Everything on there has a shred of truth and a mountain of bullshit.
8
u/KobeJuanKenobi9 2d ago edited 2d ago
Idk about the price tag but point 2 is something Milton is in desperate need of. Milton transit was so bad that I’d usually just walk instead even in deep snow. 20 minutes is still too slow but at least it’s an improvement. I don’t think “it’s expensive” is a good reason not to improve transit. It makes life in town much better
Also I find your response to it kind of silly. You think people unsatisfied with transit and needing 2 cars is a reason to NOT improve transit? All that proves it’s one of the single most important improvements the town needs. We wouldn’t need as many cars if our transit was at all up to par.
You don’t think there are people in the town who’d gladly give up the expenses that come with financing/leasing and maintaining a car if transit was better? Especially with gas prices being what they are? What about younger people who can’t afford a car yet?
Also, people typically working outside of Milton is not a justification for leaving our transit in the state that it is. Have you ever seen how full our GO parking lot is? You don’t think people would love to leave the car at home and take a bus to the station if transit was better?
And I want a mayor to lobby for all day go regardless of whether or not they’re successful. It’s probably the single worse part of living in Milton
1
-1
u/Admirable-Orchid-345 2d ago
You're right about the GO lot, that proves real demand for better station feeders. And you're right that young people without cars need options. I'm not saying transit shouldn't improve. But the flyer doesn't say "better GO connections." It says buses every 20 minutes, town-wide. That's the most expensive version of improvement, several million extra every single year, printed with no price and no funding plan. "It makes life better" is true of everything the town could spend money on.
The real question is always what gets cut or how much taxes go up, and she answered none of that. On the lobbying point, wanting a fighter is fair. But political candidates have been promising all-day GO for 25 years and there's still no funding, no timeline, no construction. Putting it on a flyer as part of her plan sells it like she'll deliver it. She can't. That's my whole issue. Not the goals, the undeliverable promises with no math.
4
u/KobeJuanKenobi9 2d ago
The town of Milton needs more than just go station feeders. I 100% agree that Milton needs town wide busses every 20 mins (I think they should be even more frequent but baby steps). Sure there are other projects we could spend money on too, but few if any of those projects would have as great a positive impact on the town as better transit. I don’t even think it matters that it’s expensive. It’s a major investment in the towns future.
I used to walk 3km to work because I couldn’t afford a car and transit was so poor it wasn’t worth waiting for the bus. And frankly if the answer is “just get a car”, that’s a more expensive solution for most people than whatever additional taxes they’d pay for a better transit system

Zainab's delusional friends are getting offended by your insight.
Rich, privileged and delusional kids are far from the reality of other socioeconomic classes. Politics is sometimes nothing more than a passtime to benefit themselves and their connections. We have seen plenty of politicians who are lining their pockets and of their friends' while the middle- and other socioeconomic classes continue to struggle.
Zainab attended a private school outside of Milton, spent plenty of time in US at a prestigious university, when she could have attended university within Ontario or Canada, yet she somehow feels entitled to run without relevant experience. This comes quite close to the definition of out of touch, privileged, entitled and delusional candidate/individual. There are counsillors in Milton who could run for mayor given their civic and political engagement, yet we see candidates of her ilk running. There are plenty of other mayoral candidates who are just as clueless as her.
2
u/IntelligentGinger 1d ago
I'm not engaging with children who fail to see the irony of their protestations. Waste of my time.
I am sure she has a lot to offer her community, but NOT as mayor of Milton. Good grief. With her CV and her father's wealth, she could be working for the UN!

For my information, what exactly is something a mayor of Milton has the power to do?

I heard her dad is paying for it- since he loves signing up for things that won’t happen (like the space trip for his daughter😂)

As Logan Roy said to his own children.... You ARE NOT a serious person (and therefore do not deserve my respect or even time) NOW ...

Can’t disagree with any points made regarding her platform. That said, have others offered theirs for comparison? It’s easy to criticize what’s been stated. Generally speaking we’ll always find a way to critique words said. Devils advocate… what is Gord standing for? Is he seeking reelection to chair the same meetings and manage the budget in similar fashion? What will he do with his next mandate? For what it’s worth, I do think many of the candidates should be seeking town council first before the jump to mayor. Sameera and I think George and perhaps another have already been present in public service (on the payroll), and would be better qualified.

I am seeing people calling for brother hood---- imagine, Milton being under silent sharia, under these people who have no idea what they talk about. Plus this subject is agreeing to foreign interference, participating in a rogue nation's election?

AI written. Might be true, but nobody wants to read this shit. Write it yourself.

u/Admirable-Orchid-345 2d ago
Fair, I had help writing it up. But I did the research and chose my words carefully instead of commenting blindly. And since you're wondering why I bothered: her team knocked on my door twice for election stuff after I clearly told them not to. I put a sign in the front yard to deter exactly that. Flyers kept coming anyway.
They wanted my attention, now they've got it.
Numbers are still the numbers though, so pick a point and tell me where it's wrong.

u/26percent 2d ago
And you still use AI for this response … and all of the others 😂
Before you knock someone for trying to make a difference, you should read a book and take an English class so you can learn how to critically engage with her ideas and form arguments for yourself — without a computer having to tell you what to say.

Sometimes you have to spend money to make money: Milton council being extremely tight with money is part of what got us into the mess we're in now. Spending money isn't a problem in and of itself, it's what you spend money on that matters and none of these strike me as wasted investments.
On the point about bringing more businesses to town, her website actually explicitly states how she plans to do this: she wants to implement a tax rebate for local startups that starts at 100% for the first year of operation and then decreases by 10% each year they remain in town. This is not all that different from the strategy that was used to bring P.L. Robertson here...which was so successful that Robertson screws are now a household name across the country. Not only that, but similar incentives are part of what led to KW becoming such a massive tech hub over the past couple decades. Milton being roughly in the centre of a triangle between Toronto, KW, and Hamilton makes it well positioned to take advantage of a ton of local talent.
6
u/Admirable-Orchid-345 2d ago
Agreed, spending isn't bad on its own. But this rebate isn't the Robertson deal - that was a real company with a real product, not startups that might not exist in 18 months. And KW became a tech hub off UW and decades of provincial money, not a town tax break.
Plus a mayor can't do this solo anyway, they needs council and it's gotta fit inside provincial rules.
What even counts as a startup? What happens when a company leaves in year two? Who pays for the services they use in year one while paying zero tax?

quick question:
how is a canadian allowed to campaign for municipal elections in usa? does us have foreign interference rules? if it is legal, what does a canadian have to gain from it, unless they’re planning to settle there (and returning back to milton was a last ditch option because nyc didn’t work out)
she campaigned for mamdani, but tf am i supposed to do with this knowledge as a milton resident? how would that determine my vote? literally, what does that even mean for milton? this is extremely useless information.

- Generally cutting (or at least drastically reducing) property taxes for areas zoned for commercial use will promote relocation. Sarkozy did it in Paris in 2010 through the CET and there was a shift. I get that Milton is not Paris, France, just pointing out a strategy.
Edit : also...good for this kid. She's doing what adults are telling kids - go try to make a difference. Good for her.
3
u/Admirable-Orchid-345 2d ago
That's a more detailed plan than anything on her flyer, which kind of proves my point. But Ontario towns can't just slash commercial rates, the province controls the tax ratios between property classes, and whatever businesses don't pay shifts onto homeowners.
Plus Paris is Paris. Milton competes with Mississauga and Oakville for the same businesses and they can play the same game.
Agree with you, running takes guts. The flyer still gets no pass.

"Edit : also...good for this kid. She's doing what adults are telling kids - go try to make a difference. Good for her."
Dumb statement. Hopefully the LPC and CPC put out 18 year olds as their next candidates for PM. "Go and make a difference" and all that. /s
You don't gun for the top job immediately. Also, I'd prefer someone who had to actually overcome adversity rather than be bankrolled her entire life. There is a lot of adversity in Canada, so I think we should have a lot of options.

Not a York Region resident but I’ve noticed how unserious/deluded most candidates are. They have no realistic scope of what the job of councillor or mayor entails; they just want a cushy job and lofty paycheque.
1
u/Moist_Intention5245 4h ago
When has any political campaign been honest? They're more aspirational than anything. Name one effing campaign that has been fully costed and realistic? No mayor that i know of. To me this post seems to have some agenda behind it, i wonder what hmm?
Also she's highly qualified looking at her credentials. More qualified than 99.9% of Milton residents, and the fact she's even interested in governing is your honor.

u/MacDaddyRemade 2d ago
“Young people should participate more in local politics!” participates “NO NOT LIKE THAT!”
Also you used AI. Not really in the position to criticize I think. Honestly the more I hear of her the more I support her. A person with a vision is a good thing actually.

Yea 23 year olds shouldn’t be literal mayors of towns with hundreds of millions of dollars? Especially when they have no experience?
Like are we being serious
0
u/Material-Truth5457 2d ago
Where does it say mayors need to have experience? Anyone can run and become mayor the only qualification is you win.
3
u/Dimethicone-silicate 1d ago
Does that make a popularity contest the correct way to elect an effective mayor?

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 2d ago
Ah yes, because all the 50+ year olds that are mayors in other cities have proven to be a net positive everytime they hold office.
2
u/Dimethicone-silicate 1d ago
So there’s no middle ground either old incompetent peeps or young grads who haven’t even seen the world
1
u/Sad_Times654 7h ago
Yawn, George M., middle aged dude who isn't pushing 90 and has experience.
Literally just vote for George.

u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 1d ago edited 1d ago
There are many young graduates who have seen more of the world than people twice their age. This is the same nonsensical excuse people make when it's argued that 16 year olds should be allowed to vote.
Someone in their early 20s (not necessarily the candidate in question) can absolutely have an understanding of their city and community, and what's needed to make it thrive.

I will say that Patrick Brown got us all day, all week GO service in Brampton.
1
u/PlantainManne 1d ago
Did Patrick Brown get the province to fork over $6 billion? Cause that’s what it would take to get full GO service here.
1
u/Apprehensive-Dust608 1d ago
Not true at all. Patrick brown didn’t do shit all.
2
u/DryEmu5113 1d ago
Well, before 2022 we didn’t have all week GO service and now we do.

u/DayOfTheDeb 1d ago
https://news.ontario.ca/en/release/34008/more-go-service-between-brampton-and-toronto
It was definitely before that. My husband took the GO every day from Brampton GO to Bloor station and he had all day service even before 2019. He would stay late at company functions and take the GO train home late at night or come home midday sometimes.
1
u/DryEmu5113 1d ago
I specifically remember one of my parents complaining about the GO train not coming on the weekends. I could be misremembering though.
1
u/DayOfTheDeb 1d ago
Oh, yes, I misunderstood! I thought you meant two way service all day on weekdays during off peak times which we don't have here.
The two way service on the weekends probably started about three years ago?

Hey guys, there's a neolib posting about how socialist ideas are bad. Can you imagine?
"Governments providing services are bad, we can't afford it"
Sure, but plenty of money to give developers tax breaks, maybe pay to stop housing intensification, put up some parking lots?
Also, you're painting "knocking doors, managing volunteers, working 80-hour weeks." as a bad thing?
Who's campaign do you work on OP?

u/zakanova 1d ago
Pricetag? You morons voted for Doug three times and he's spending 48 million of YOUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS to rip out some bikelanes in a part of Toronto you've never been to.
Not sure you can play the "pricetag" card

u/PriveNom 1d ago
This is an opinion hit piece against a single candidate. It's not info that helps voters. It is useless to voters without a comparison to other candidates' positions on transit, taxes, education, job growth etc. The level of analysis here is less than sophomoric. I suggest everyone review, research and compare all candidates relevant to their ward. Look for the fresh ideas that are important to you, look at the energy that candidates have to bring their ideas to fruition that appeals to you.
The OP here seems to be saying that you can't bring new ideas to life, that you can't have new ways of doing things, that you shouldn't try to change the status quo, that you shouldn't even try. This is just silly.
Be wary of focused hit pieces, like this one, against any candidate, that try to disguise themselves as some sort of in-depth analysis.
2
u/Admirable-Orchid-345 1d ago
This is just from her flyer.
Funny thing, you're telling people to ignore the cost and just feel the ideas and the energy. That's a sales pitch!
Ideas are free, the bill lands on us real Milton residence. Easy to be generous with other people's money. Some of us want to know the price before we buy.

I don’t know anything about her but my immediate thought is why did she copy Mamdani’s graphic design for a campaign in MILTON lmao
