Auto Insurance Car insurance dropped me

First claim ever for a not at fault (deer hit and run) no other damage to than my car. Took my car to get an estimate and right after, the policy holder (my dad) received an email that I am being dropped. Confused here?? Never had an issue with insurance before

EDIT: thanks to the few who were genuinely trying to help. I’ll be taking the appropriate steps to get this fixed. I should have worded this a bit differently but it was not a “hit and run”. A deer jumped out in front of the car therefore causing damage to the vehicle. As for the others ✌🏼

Rear ending/ hit and run

So, Friday (5 days ago) I was rear ended, cops came, I opened a claim with my insurance (allstate) and got the car to the nearest body shop for an estimate. Monday morning my assigned adjuster called me for a statement and foremly closed my claim because apparently I don't have collision insurance. I'm covered for everything else, just not collision, I'm sure someone at some point informed me when I signed up for the policy I just don't have any earthly idea why I didn't add that on anyway.

Regardless, my adjuster did offer to make a third party claim on my behalf on the guilty party's insurance. I had to wait until the police report for that info as the other party actually kept driving for several blocks before stopping and had their own officer handling that part and I honestly didn't even think about it. However, the report was sent to me yesterday and their insurance info is marked as unknown. How can it possibly be unknown? Did the cop not ask for that information? If they were uninsured, wouldn't it be noted in the report and more citations beyond the hit and run would be issued?

I'm still waiting to hear back from the officer about it, but I did reach out to the other party personally. She put her son's cell number as her own for some reason, he was pleasant enough and gave me her number. I called, no answer and the mailbox is full. Sooooooo, that's fun.

In the meantime, I called and left a message with the adjuster asking to reopen the case as I am covered for uninsured driver property damage and sent him the police report, estimate and other party's phone number. I haven't heard back. The estimate is several thousand dollars more than the car's value so it should be a fairly easy and simple decision to total it. And I'm already looking into buying a new car.

Is there anything else I should be doing? Any tips or anything I should watch out for?

Auto Insurance How do I best fight a low insurance payout on a total loss

So technically this isn’t a “low” payout. I live in Alaska though where the price of vehicles is much higher. Insurance offered me $6300 for a 2008 dodge ram 1500 Laramie 180k. Now that may not seem low to some but vehicles of that same caliber in this state go for easily 10k but more around 16-20k in the conditions mine was in for generally more miles. Now both of my mom’s trucks were stolen when I was younger and they could not find comparable vehicles. So they tacked on roughly 2-4k for shipping adjustment value. When my insurance (USAA) valued my total loss. They stated they couldn’t find comparable vehicles so they simply called a dealer, gave them the information and specs, and asked how much a dealer would price the vehicle at. However I assume they chose two of the lowest payouts because I have roughly 20-30 dealerships in my city and they used a scummy low rank one and one dealership 300 miles away in a much smaller town. What is the best way to go about combatting this and getting a higher payout?

USAA subrogation claim of $11,297.43 against an international student. Can this be negotiated?

I'm posting for my brother, an international student in Louisiana on a visa that only allows on-campus work and tutoring.

In July he was driving a friend's car, which had no insurance, and hit another driver's truck. He paid for his friend's car repairs himself. The other driver's insurer, USAA, then sent him a bill for $11,297.43, and he signed a promissory note for about $300 a month.

Questions for anyone with experience:

  1. Are subrogation balances like this usually negotiable? Can he ask for a reduced lump-sum settlement or an itemized breakdown?
  2. Should he have asked for the repair estimate and photos before signing the note?
  3. Does it matter that the car was uninsured and belonged to a friend?
  4. Are there legal aid options for international students in Louisiana?

Thank you for your advice

Auto Insurance Need help getting full coverage insurance quotes for a wheelchair accessible vehicle with hand controls ($200K)

Hey guys, I hope everybody's doing well. I need some help or some clarification if anybody can help me. I'm having lots of trouble at the moment.

So basically, I'm 25 years old, I live in Miami, Florida, and I'm in a wheelchair. I'm about to start driving really soon. I'm having vocational rehabilitation pay for not only the conversion of the vehicle, to add the ramp and make it handicap accessible overall, but they're also gonna pay to install whichever hand controls I need in the vehicle in order for me to drive.

Now, in order to start the driving evaluation process, they told me I need to call insurances and get quotes, just so I know how much I would be paying monthly. I've never done this before. My parents are busy and don't really have the time to sit there and call insurance, insurance, insurance. I've been calling and they've been asking me all these questions that I don't really know the answer to. If somebody can please just dumb it down for me and give me some clarification.

All I need, from what vocational rehabilitation told me, is full coverage, which is going to be like $200,000, just in case the car gets totaled or breaks or something. The reference car they gave me to use to get quotes is the 2027 Chrysler Pacifica, so that's the car I need to use for reference when they ask me what's the VIN number of the car, blah blah blah.

The $200,000 would include the base price of the car, which would be anywhere from $42,000 to $50,000 because it has to be a 2027. Then a couple more thousand dollars to install the ramp/lift in the car to make it go from standard to a handicap accessible vehicle. And then the other big chunk of money would be for the hand controls, which would be anywhere from $116,000 to $119,000. So in total, I roughly need $200,000 worth of full coverage.

Where can I start? What do you guys recommend? I have no previous insurance history.

Other party insurance is claiming I ran a red light and placing me at majority fault for the accident (60/40). I have dashcam footage proving I did not run the red light and entered the intersection legally, how am I able to fight this? What should I do?

Title. I'm in the process of dealing with the other party insurance making a false allegation and I have proof to back it up. Why are they able to lie like this? I'm very frustrated that I am the one getting shafted despite me having dashcam video of me crossing the limit line on a yellow light going under the speed limit (in California). My current lawyer doesnt seem too confident on being able to fight this for some reason. Any help and input is appreciated thank you.

Auto Insurance PI paralegal Geico Rage Post

I hate Geico so much I have been on hold for more than an hour and a half trying to make a claim for a client, on my second attempt after the first was an hour and the call timed out! How the hell are non-attorney-represented claimants supposed to do shit?

I understand that that the whole point of insurance companies is to avoid paying out on the policies they sell, but this is ridiculous! I don't enjoy calling in to foreign call centers because they can be very hit-or-miss, but at least Allstate has the decency to make sure that they have enough people answering claim calls in a reasonable amount of time.

Heres the kicker: it gave me the adjuster's name before it put me on hold when I gave them the policy #, SO GIVE ME THE DAMN CLAIM NUMBER TOO! I WANT TO BOIL THAT GECKO LIKE A FROG.

I have consistently had this issue with Geico, the third largest US auto insurer, and ive never had this issue with any other company including Progressive or State Farm which are both bigger than Geico.

I ended up having to give up after an an hour and 38 minutes and went home for the day.

TL;DR: third largest US auto insurer needs to either hire more people on their claims line or bite the bullet and hire a call center(s)

Health Insurance Dad died in July. Ambulance Company mis-filed insurance from May and has now sent claim to collections. Am I on the hook to pay?

Daddy had Medicare, Humana, and TriCare for Life. It’s taken forever to sort through all of the bills and insurances for the hospital, services, rehab, etc…

For this one, I had send TriCare copies of the will showing me as executor just to get them to talk to me and explain why they aren’t covering it. Turns out AMR never sent them an EOB from
Medicare, only Humana. So, they need that to pay the bill. Called AMR back today and they say they already sent it to collections and it’s out of their hands. (They transferred me to the collections company, so they clearly can communicate with them.)

Collections says they don’t deal with insurance, I should just pay it. I said no, because we do not actually owe this money. The lady said all she can do is mark him as deceased. What does that even mean? Who do I fight with now, or do I just stick my head in the sand, let it ride, and move on to the next problem?

Auto Insurance Agent discouraging stacked UM/UIM

I live in Florida. We are switching our policy to be able to combine with our homeowners’ policy for additional discounts. We currently have 100/300 with stacked UM/UIM. The new agent says we don’t need stacked coverage as it only covers medical. I know that’s not true and she did come off that when pressed. She claims it’s just not common anymore. I asked about increasing our coverage to 250/500 with the same for UM. She felt that was a better idea than using stacked.

We are 61 and 62. I’m retired but working part time while my husband still works. He works for the state government and can retire at any time but will probably stay another 2 1/2 years. He has plenty of PTO and we have excellent health insurance.

I’m super confused about what I should do. I’ve never had an agent try to convince me NOT to stack and the state’s default is stacked, so I’d have to sign a waiver indicating the choice of non-stacking.

Can anyone give me an idea of what would be best for us?

ETA: We have a 2024 BMW i5 and a 2025 Mazda CX-5

Insurance underwriting

If I have no previous experience in the insurance industry and I want to get into insurance underwriting, should I start out in entry level sales at a brokerage? It seems like sales are the only positions in this industry that are willing to hire people with no experience. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how I can get started!

CT Public Adjuster Dispute — Looking for Advice After DOI Is Not Helping with Complaint

I’m a Connecticut homeowner looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with a public adjuster dispute or a complaint with the Connecticut Department of Insurance. I filed an insurance claim for wind damage to my roof, and my insurance company approved payment toward the roof replacement. During the process, I was introduced to a public adjuster through a roofing company and felt pressured into signing a public adjuster agreement because I was led to believe this was the way I needed to proceed with getting my roof replaced. I had concerns about how the agreement was presented, the communication throughout the process, the fees being demanded, and the conditions attached to the adjuster’s offer to mutually terminate our agreement. At one point, I was told that a mutual release would only be considered if I signed a roofing contract with a particular company and paid a deposit to them immediately. I did not feel comfortable with those conditions and requested termination of the relationship.

The situation has now left my roof replacement in limbo. Although the insurance company issued payments, which I have not cashed, the dispute with the public adjuster has complicated the process of moving forward. The adjuster has maintained that his agreement remains valid and has continued communicating with my insurance company despite my request that he stop assisting with my claim. I filed a complaint with the Connecticut Department of Insurance because I believed the circumstances surrounding the agreement, the pressure I experienced, and the adjuster’s conduct warranted review. However, the DOI is indicating that it found no wrongdoing by the public adjuster. I’m trying to understand whether I have any other options, including whether the agreement’s enforceability, the circumstances under which it was signed, the fee being demanded, or the adjuster’s conduct could be reviewed by another authority. Has anyone in Connecticut experienced something similar, challenged a public adjuster agreement, or successfully obtained an independent review? I’m not looking to avoid paying legitimate fees for services actually provided; I simply want a fair resolution, to understand my rights, and to finally get my roof replaced. Any advice or recommendations for a Connecticut attorney experienced in insurance claims or public adjuster disputes would be greatly appreciated.

North Carolina collision appraisal stalled because appraisers can’t agree on an umpire. How do I get one appointed?

I’m in North Carolina and looking for firsthand advice on getting an umpire appointed for an auto insurance appraisal.
My parked 2023 Tesla Model Y was hit, and there’s a disagreement over the repairs, including whether the tailgate needs replacement or can be repaired cosmetically. I’m currently going through the appraisal process under my own collision policy.
My independent appraiser and the insurance company’s appraiser cannot agree on an umpire. The other appraiser rejected my appraiser’s proposed candidates, and my appraiser rejected theirs because of concerns about their track records.
My appraiser initially said he would pursue a court appointed umpire, but now says I need to handle that myself.
Here’s where I’m stuck:
I called the magistrate’s office and clerk of court, but the people I spoke with weren’t familiar with the request.
I’ve had trouble finding an attorney who handles this type of issue.
My policy says the two appraisers will select an umpire, but it doesn’t explain what happens when they cannot agree.
I found N.C. G.S. 20-279.21(d1), which describes a magistrate selecting an umpire, but I’m unsure whether that procedure applies to an appraisal under my own collision coverage.
It’s frustrating because I’ve already hired an appraiser and followed the process, but I still don’t have a clear next step.
Has anyone in North Carolina successfully obtained an umpire appointment in this situation? Did you go through a magistrate or a judge? What paperwork did you file, and were you able to do it without an attorney?
I’d also appreciate recommendations for an attorney who represents policyholders in auto property damage appraisal disputes.

Meritain Health Denied Payments!!

We submitted claims to Meritain Health last August, and it has now been over two months without receiving payment.

We have called multiple times to follow up, but the representatives keep giving us the runaround. Last September, one representative told us the claim had been paid on a specific date, but we never received the payment. When we called again, another representative gave us a different payment date and said it would be included in the following week's payment cycle.

Since then, it's been the same story over and over again. We keep getting different payment dates, but no actual payment. Every time we call, the representatives tell us the same thing, and we're getting nowhere.

We usually receive our payments through ECHO, so we are familiar with the payment process. However, the issue is that the claim appears to be stuck in processing. We have been told that it was paid, but no payment has actually been issued, and we have not received a check or payment through ECHO.

We're extremely frustrated and don't know how to escalate this issue. Has anyone else experienced this with Meritain Health? If so, how did you get it resolved? Is there a specific department, supervisor, or escalation channel we should contact?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We're tired of getting the runaround and just want these claims paid.

Amica customer quotes?

I’ve been an Amica customer for 40 years. Never had a claim. I have been trying to get new quotes for another car, a new home and an umbrella policy. I’ve been through 4 reps. The follow up has been terrible. They never call back, never pick up their phones and don’t respond to emails. I’m now wondering if I should go somewhere else. The quote process is truly terrible. Have the wheels come off? Has something fundamentally changed with their operation and customer service? I was literally ready to proceed with them but I’m getting cold feet. They don’t seem like Amica any more.

California -Neighbor repeatedly damages my Porsche, and I have video evidence. Can AAA pursue his insurance without my deductible?

I’m in California and looking for advice on how to handle a car damage claim.

My neighbor parks his 20+ year-old Toyota Corolla right next to our Porsche. He has repeatedly slammed his car door into our passenger side, causing damage to the door, lower panel, and other areas along the side.

This has happened more than once. The first incident happened about 3 weeks ago, and then he did it again about 7 days ago. Unfortunately, the apartment’s parking CCTV camera was broken, so we didn’t have footage from that earlier incident.

However, during the latest incident, we captured footage from both the apartment’s parking CCTV system and our own camera. The footage shows him slamming his door into our Porsche and scuffing the side.

He refuses to cooperate and acts like he did nothing. I filed a police report yesterday.

I want to file a claim through my own insurance, AAA, but I’m concerned about having to pay my deductible and potentially having the claim affect my insurance record when someone else caused the damage.

My questions are:

  1. Can I file a claim with AAA and ask them to pursue the neighbor’s insurance through subrogation?
  2. Can AAA pursue his insurance using our footage even if he refuses to admit fault?
3.Would I have to pay my deductible upfront? If AAA recovers the money, would my deductible be reimbursed?
4.Can AAA pursue his insurance directly without me using my own collision coverage?
  3. Could this affect my premiums or claim history even though I have video evidence?

I want to get my Porsche repaired properly without being stuck paying for damage someone else caused.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation in California, particularly with AAA? I’d appreciate advice from insurance adjusters or anyone who has gone through this process.

Thank you!

Auto Insurance Glass Coverage NY For Broken Seal

I have State Farm in NYS with full $0 deduct glass coverage. My 2020 Lexus rx 350 f sport had water intrusion that the dealer deemed is likely from windshield sealant failure between the glass and the metallic body. They are quoting me $2800 for full windshield replacement.

Before I pull it out and pay a diagnostic fee of $290 to the dealer and go the State Farm safelite route, I’m wondering whether water intrusion due to likely failed sealant is coverable under my glass coverage?

Auto Insurance Canadian driving American friend’s car in the USA?

I’m going to the states this weekend and visiting some American friends. I want to help with some of the driving we will be doing on our trip but I’m not sure if I’d be covered in the event of an accident? I’m insured on the family vehicle here in Canada (not primary). I’ve tried looking it up on my own but with no luck!

Help regarding selling a car to friend after an accident

I am thinking to accept the insurance payment (in Mayrland), and my friend offer to take the car for $3000. Yet, told me not to apply for salvage tittle from DMV. Is this legal? (what I know is the insurance will report the total car to DMV?) anyone can help on this?

"The document explicitly states that you are discharging both the insurer, Insurance Company and the insured, XX from recovery regarding this accident.

This is a full and final release, and signing this means you accept the Pro Rata share under this specific agreement, and this matter would be permanently closed.

Regarding your vehicle, you will need to discuss the totaled status, and cost associated with it, with your local DMV and/or a repair shop or a tow lot that will help salvage it.

We took into account the cost of your vehicle damages, along with the other two partys to issue an even Pro Rata split. We are not handling your vehicle."

Uninsured Motorist Accident - Need Advice on Claim Options

State : Texas.
Hi everyone,

I was recently involved in a car accident that was not my fault and I'm looking for advice on how to best handle my insurance claim.

What Happened

  • I was driving on the road when another driver pulled out of a parking lot and T-boned me on the passenger side
  • The accident was entirely the other driver's fault — I had the right of way
  • The at-fault driver provided me with an expired insurance card and refused to provide a driver's license
  • The driver left the scene even though I asked him to stay until police arrived
  • Police responded to the scene, and I have a police report and incident number documenting the accident and fault
  • When police looked up the driver's records, they found that the driver had prior violations on his license
  • The driver's insurance policy is expired, making them effectively uninsured

My Coverage (GEICO)

  • I have Uninsured Motorist Property Damage (UMPD) coverage with a low deductible
  • I also have Collision coverage with a much very high deductible

My Questions

  1. Rental Car Reimbursement — I declined rental car coverage in my insurance policy. However, I need a rental car while mine is being repaired. Does UMPD cover rental car costs? I was told by someone I can still get a rental and reimburse since it is UMPD
  2. Hit-and-Run / Filing Charges — The at-fault driver left the scene before police arrived (despite me asking him to stay), refused to show a driver's license, had prior violations on his license, was driving without valid insurance, and provided me a false/expired insurance card. Can I file a hit-and-run police report and/or press charges against this driver?
  3. Recovering My Deductible — Can I sue the at-fault uninsured driver in small claims court to recover my deductible and any other out-of-pocket expenses?
  4. Any Other Options? — Is there anything else I should be doing or any other claims I should be filing? I want to make sure I'm not leaving money on the table.

Questions about what to do after an accident.

I recently got into a accident and the lady came into my lane. We waited like 45 mins for a police and they did not do a police report cause it looked like under 2000 dollars worth of damages. My car is a 2002 Toyota Camry that I got for 4,000 I recently took it to a collision shop and they estimated the damages were over 3,000. My dad’s insurance said they would wave the deductible or he could pay. I have the other drivers insurance information who caused the accident “even though she denies it.” Any advice you guys could offer between going through insurance or just paying for it would be appreciated. Haven’t heard from the other driver or their insurance yet.

(Allstate Renter's Insurance) Purchased and cancelled on the same day - will I be able to receive a full refund

(CA) So long story short I couldn't get a quote online because of some website errors. It kept telling me to call to get a quote, so I did. The agent entered the wrong effective date (it should have been two weeks later, but he set it to tomorrow) and also entered the wrong address.

I know I could've just requested that they correct the information, but after dealing with customer service, I thought it would be better to cancel the whole policy and get a full refund (around $150, which I paid upfront).

I requested the cancellation, but they kept saying they didn't know the exact refund amount because it would be automatically calculated by their system. Will I be able to get a full refund? I need to wait several days to even receive that information...

NYC- Car hit by bicyclist who ran red light

Hi,

I live in NYC. A couple months ago while crossing an intersection (with the green light) a bicyclist ran his light and hit my car like speeding bullet. With no helmet at that. My car was badly damaged on the passenger side (doors and frame) and spent 3-4 weeks in the shop. I’ve never had an accident before and it shook me up. I called the police and they took the other party to the hospital.

My insurance said I was not at fault (based off of photos and police report. For sometime my insurance company could not contact him. Now him and his attorney has resurfaced. They are claiming the money is not enough because he was badly injured. The insurance company is trying to square this away without going to court but they are asking if I have any other insurance policies (I don’t 😶). They are also saying the attorney wants us to take some of the fault. I’m not agreeing to this because he blew through the light. They are continuing to represent me but I have my worries.

I’m afraid of going to court and possibly financial ruin for something that was not my fault.

Any advice?

Home Insurance Buckling hard wood floors from crawl space moisture

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with crawl space moisture, buckling hardwood floors, or a homeowners insurance claim for something similar. I’m honestly worried about how bad this could be and what the smartest next step is financially.

We recently bought our house, and we’re having an issue with the hardwood floors buckling upward in several areas. The floors don’t feel soft or bouncy when we walk on them, but the wood is visibly buckling, and I’m worried about what might be happening underneath.

Our house has a crawl space with bare soil and no vapor barrier. There’s no standing water under the house that we can see, but we suspect moisture is evaporating from the dirt and getting into the flooring above.

The crawl space is also extremely low. One half of the house has maybe 2 feet of clearance, while the other half is only about 1 foot or possibly even less. I’m not sure if that lack of clearance is contributing to the problem or how difficult and expensive it would be to properly address it.
We had a home inspection before purchasing the house, and nothing like this was brought to our attention. I understand an inspection isn’t a guarantee that there are no problems, but I’m concerned that there may have been an underlying moisture issue we didn’t know about.
We also suspect there may be mildew or mold in the crawl space, although we haven’t had a professional assessment yet.

We recently had a hurricane in our area, and while the buckling was already happening before the hurricane, I feel like the additional moisture and humidity may have made it significantly worse. I want to be clear that I’m not saying the hurricane caused the original problem, just that it may have intensified it.

My biggest question is whether this is worth filing a homeowners insurance claim for.

Our policy has a $2,500 all-other-perils deductible, but our hurricane deductible is 5% of our $355,000 dwelling coverage, which comes out to $17,750. That’s a HUGE difference, and I’m scared of having this classified as hurricane-related damage when the issue existed beforehand.

We also have some mold/mildew coverage, but I don’t know whether that would apply if the moisture is coming from the bare soil in the crawl space.

I’m worried about several things:

Would insurance typically cover buckling hardwood floors caused by crawl space moisture, or would they consider it long-term damage, humidity, or a maintenance issue?

If the hurricane made an existing problem worse, could the insurance company apply the hurricane deductible to the entire claim?

Could the mold/mildew coverage apply separately, or would it depend on what caused the moisture?

Is it worth filing a claim if there’s a chance it will be denied? I’m worried about a denial still affecting our future premiums or making it harder to get insurance.

Would we be better off paying for a crawl space and structural inspection ourselves first, getting estimates, and deciding whether to file afterward?

Has anyone had a similar situation where their hardwood floors were buckling but the subfloor and joists turned out to be okay? Or did it end up being a much bigger repair?

I’m trying to figure out whether we’re looking at a moisture-control issue and replacing some flooring, or whether this could turn into major structural damage and a much more expensive repair.

I know nobody can determine coverage without reading the policy, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have dealt with something similar, especially anyone familiar with homeowners insurance claims in Florida.

Would you file a claim in this situation? My husband thinks he can dig out the crawl space deeper to stop the problem and then we just replace the floors ourselves.

Auto Insurance Insurance lapse and plate revoked?

(We live in NC) My bf was with progressive and before he ended his insurance with them, he started with geico. We missed the first letter from the dmv due to being out of town and now this month he got another letter from them. Geico didn’t report his insurance and now there was a lapse. He called the dmv where they told him that, and they also informed him that his plate was revoked. What do we even do now because we both rely on this car to get to work and it’s not like we can just up and not go to work for multiple days on end, not with our bills and the Ubers are too expensive. I feel at a loss.
