Tomorrow will be my first Devils game :D became a fan when I got hooked on Olympics Hockey and wanted to follow the team Jack Hughes was on. I am a native NYer and was so frustrated watching Rangers games cause they are lame and realized I could join the dark side >:)

I have been to 1 hockey game (The Sirens at MSG) but am excited for my first Devils game tomorrow ;D

Anything I should know? Got my hat, hoodie and labubu lol

Score: 4. I know people are gonna comment it should be higher and I get why, but it’s too early in the season to hit the full panic mode.

However, this team is a complete shell of itself. It’s like a group of people who don’t communicate or have any idea what they are doing. It’s honestly impressive they are winning games.

Fire Keefe or make some roster changes or something, but it’s early enough for things to change.

I did a version of this yesterday but folks pointed out some meaningful flaws, so I did a couple things different, and the Devils popped out as a notable team.

First, I looked just going into the third period. So blowing leads, or coming back from a deficit in the third.

Then I looked at this controlling for team quality. Not in the worlds most rigorous way, just imagine this scenario:

1. You play 100 games, and in 35 of them you enter the third behind
2. You win 9 of the 35, which is 26%. Is that good or bad?
3. Well, in your other 65 games you took about 78% of the points, and other teams in the league at that level come back from trailing at 15%, which is ~5 games.
4. Therefore, you make come backs a bit more than expected, 4 more times than expected.
5. Over the five and change seasons, anything within about 9 games of expectation is normal variation

I think this gives a much more interesting picture of teams that make come backs and blow leads, irrespective of just "good teams good bad teams bad."

BTW, in 466 games the Devils came back in 25 of 198, expected 29 (-4) and blew 20 of 165 leads, expected 29 (-9)

A lot of overreacting here.

Fam, it's only been FIVE GAMES, and there's a lot to like. I think we pick up the pace later in the month. At that point, lines will have been shifted around and, I belive, we end up with a winning team that can handily make the playoffs, even barring an injury or two.

It's also not fair to blame Keefe or Mehta. It's the players that need to do better, and they are still trying to gel. I like them both and think they'll be around for a while, so I think we should just buckle up and trust the process.

I am a somewhat new fan of the Devils and hockey overall, (Started watching in the latter half of last season and fell in love with it immediately) and with the holidays coming up I've been looking into getting a jersey for one of the players but I'm having trouble deciding on exactly who.

To put it bluntly, it is very important to me that I actually like the player as a person on and off the ice. I totally understand people who don't care if their favorite player is at all aligned with them morally and politically but unfortunately that isn't something that I can really ignore.

I've tried doing my fair bit of research but nearly all players are very very private about their personal beliefs which makes it hard to gleam any real information. I have definitely noticed that by far the vast majority of hockey players (and honestly athletes overall) tend much much farther right than I'd be comfortable supporting.

I don't need my player to be especially outspoken about anything but being a member of the LGBT community I would really like to find a player who isn't against that overall category of people.

EDIT: After seeing some of the responses I think I should actually be a teeny bit more clear, I know this may be a little bit much to some people but even if an certain player seems good themselves my line for support is pretty hard set at who that player chooses to support themselves. so to be completely honest, even though I know both of the Hughes's have said good things themselves the whole Olympics debacle did put a bit of a bad taste in my mouth towards them.

EDIT 2: So far the suggestions I'm liking the best are either Hischier or just a blank jersey. I'm leaning Hischier just because I really love the idea of having a specific player to follow (it's one of the biggest things I envied about sports fans previously) but feel free to keep giving more ideas.

EDIT 3: OK I REALIZE I AM BAD AT BEING DIRECT WITH MY POINTS SO HOPEFULLY BY PUTTING IT HERE IN BIG WORDS I CAN MAKE SURE THIS POINT IS VERY CLEAR.

1. THEY HATE ME/TRANS PEOPLE

2. THEY "DONT HATE" ME BUT THINK THAT I AM MENTALLY ILL, A SINNER, ETC ETC ETC

3. THEY ARE AN "ALLY" WHO STILL ASSOCIATES WITH PEOPLE WHO FIT INTO NUMBER 1 OR 2 (I do make an exception for being on the same team as or being related to those people because there's only so much I can exclude lmao)

Last night sucked but that was last night! New day, new team, new chance to win! LETS GO DEVILS!!

According to NHLDB in 25/26 season we were 27th on GF with 2.76 but in SOG we were 5th with 29.6

This season our GF is 2.20 but we are first in SOG by a wide margin with 36.2

Is this really such big of a problem as it seems to me or am I just being igorant?

The kraken are my second favorite team and I really do love their home jersey, but I feel conflicted about having merch from another franchise that isn't my beloved NJ Devils.
