Hey guys, as the title says: I love Deep Purple but I would consider myself more of a casual fan since I mostly listen to their hits (Child in Time, Lazy, Hush, Smoke on the Water, etc.). Therefore, I'm not sure if I should attend one of their concerts soon since I have to pay around 100€ which is pretty expensive... If Ritchie was still in the band, I would 100% go there, since I'm a huge fan of his guitar skills but that's obviously not the case 😅. Would you still recommend seeing them?

As a metal/rock fan I've always held Deep Purple in the highest regard if it comes to their legacy and influence. The fact that my older sister was absolutely crazy about them at some point (she introduced me to a lot of metal bands) reinforced that. That pattern kinda runs in the family as the one who introduced my dad to Purple was his older sister as well lol.
Anyway - due to work I skipped their show that was like 2 years ago and regretted it deeply... I thought I won't get another chance. I got to see Hughes in the meantime but still, that wasn't it. I was really pumped when they announced new tour and I made sure to be there this time, went with my dad.
I didn't watch any recent live shows prior to that, all I knew was that DP released my favorite live album of all time (Made in Japan obviously) and Ian is in his early 80' - in other words, I had no idea what to expect.
Whatever went down that night blew me away. There were no cut backs, they went all out and Ian sung like a madman. Pulling off Into the Fire or Highway Star so good at that age was something impossible to me, and they truly nailed it. Band was tight as hell and didn't run out of steam at any point. They made sure that the old guard gets their rest in between the songs with solo parts, and that was pretty good as well.
If anyone is wondering if they should go, I'm telling you - GO.

Huge music fan here working on filling in some significant knowledge gaps. Bought my Brother-in-Law Live at Kohln because I knew he liked Rainbow but I had really never even heard of them. Of course I listened to it and it absolutely completely blew my mind like several times over; was also the first time I’ve ever heard Dio, like at all. Just completely floored. And so I think I’m taking this ride down the rabbit hole, and I think it’s gonna be pretty f’in awesome. That is all. 😳🤯🤘

I know the work of Rainbow, IGB/Gillan, Whitesnake, and Hughes-Turner project, but are there other big gaps I should fill relating to DP'S side/solo projects. Captain Beyond ison my list to check out.

If we consider the albums by the Mark II lineup, they’re all top-level. I’ll start with In Rock every song is great and well-known Fireball is also incredible; every song is brilliant. I won’t even say anything about Machine Head. That album somehow feels a little more commercial. Ian Paice plays amazingly, and the songs are heavy and good, but in my opinion, you can tell that the album was recorded somewhat forcefully, and many of the tracks are forgettable.
