Defending as the kingdom of Brittany against Conqueror trait France. None of my allies show up on time and when they finally do they somehow take more attrition than the enemy army in my own land. We beat them in five straight battles, captured Paris (which led to the capture of absolutely no one somehow) and yet still the war score sat at 45% because they’d captured two counties. But wait, here’s the best part, we can’t even take the counties back and win the war because for whatever reason the ai army is only made to retreat two counties over. They’ve lost over 10,000 men. I’m sorry but this is fucking ridiculous.

So for silk and silver right now we have the artisan, the caravaneer, and the creditor, and we had war profiteer but it was too similar to creditor so it was removed (i wonder what that says about real life). I think for its replacement we should be able to play as a slaver instead. It's pretty self explanatory on the historicity of it and I don't see why it couldn't be a thing. We already can torture people to the point of insanity, we can castrate them and otherwise disfigure them, hell we can even rape them with the concubine mechanic. When raiding you can already take slaves in one of the events, although they aren't actual characters and the recruit mechanic is kinda like enslaving them because of the total power you have over courtiers, but unfortunately you still have to pay them a salary to work.
Slavery is honestly a long overdue mechanic, especially for tribal, Islamic, and Byzantine gameplay, but even in the span that CK3 takes place even western societies still had slaves, and Silk and Silver is the perfect time to add it considering it should have effects on the economy.
If Stellaris players can enslave, genocide, and eat entire races, we should at the very least be able to have slaves 🥀
We already have eunuchs and concubines, just take the final step.

Honestly I am not trying to start a flame war here. I just feel we should be able to have a respectful discussion
I am just saying the update and the massive changes feels like that towards the middle to end of development they used an AI as the kind of bugs that are in the current version are reminiscent of LLM bugs and feel for people familiar with how those work. Where you implement the feature and it works but the cascade effect long-term effects that touch other systems.
I am sure they did a lot of heavy development lifting so it wasn't pure laziness or anything like that but if you compare this to the way to say 1.13 Roads to Power felt and then 1.20 you can definitely see these don't feel like paradox type bugs. They are on a tight release cycle and the game has gotten huge since then so I am not saying they did anything wrong. I love their games
However,I give them major props for the gaming starting so fast now. They deserve major major props for that implementation. They may have an in house AI model they made themselves to make their job easier but after playing the current game and messing with llm development;I can see they did something along these lines.
If I am wrong I will happy own it. Just a hunch I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way. If not my apologies.

What the title says, I want to continue a playthrough on a save without ironman (I've been fucked over by HRE succession). I've found some guides online but none of them seem to work/the new "standard" save file is always corrupted. Does anyone here know how to reliably do it?

This is my no-reload CK3 Ironman run where I started with the HRE and tried to just expand my empire as soon as possible. I feel like I need more validation because I don't know if my empire would be considered "impressive" by the general CK3 community and I really don't want to be all hyped about something that isn't even that crazy. Some extra details: My run is currently 246 years, started at 1066 if I'm not mistaken. No reloads, had to take some hard L's along the way and it didn't feel good, but part of Ironman is knowing when to make hard decisions. Survived crises multiple times, pulled off some pretty good clutches and I think I governed my empire pretty meticulously. Changed the name from HRE to Deutsch-Römisches Reich and changed capital to Frankfurt, boosted capital development to +60, powerful vassal opinion at +30, factions fought and beaten. Idk i just need validation and honestly since I'm new to reddit i genuinely have no clue how ts works so idk if im even going to get responses. Anyway I want your honest opinions.

So I was playing ck2 all good expanding my duchy wanting to get 51% do make my kingdom, then I found myself considering: then what? A empire, then what? Own the entire world, but then what? Max out technology, then what? Upgrade my demense build, then my vassal's buildings, then building new castles, new cities, new temples, upgrading these as well, then what? Wonders, but then what? I just realised this game isnt infinite, and this is really sad
I feel like I am wasting my time, knowing at some point I will look at any attempt of getting stronger just to find out I cant do anything else because I maxxed everything up feels sad, like, REAL sad, what is the point of this game? Getting to the top of everything possible then being aware there is nothing else that can be done to get even stronger, to stabilize even more the realm, or to get a mere 3% boost in light infantry sounds pointless
This game isnt infinite, one day the tech will max, the empty slots will be filled, the upgrades will be built, all possible wonders built, this game falls into a trap made for finite games

I’m curious how many people regularly use mods compared to people who use very little/none.
I will normally only use better barbershop, nameplates, or others that are small quality of life changes but I recently tried the ck3 game of thrones mods and I’m obsessed.

Garden architects: Self explanatory. Andalusians had magnificent gardens
Futuwaa: Al-Andalus is documented to have had futuwaan fighting clubs.
Water rituals: Self-explanatory.
Irrigation experts: Just look at the marvel of irrigation engineering that was Al-Hambra. Andalusians were masters of irrigation.
Beacon of Learning. Al-Hakam II created a library of 400,00 books. Hisham II was known to be incredibly erudite, and Abd Al-Rahman III used to host debates between scholars. Some of the greatest scholars of the Islamic world were in Al-Andalus. It was one of if not the greatest centre of learning in the islamic world, rivalled by none other than Baghdad.
Enlightened magnates: Makes Poets more common. Ibn Zaydun, Ibn Quzman, Ibn Abbad the ruler of the taifa of Seville, Wallada the Umayyad princess were all phenomenal Andalusian poets, but the list is almost endless. This tradition also enables a new type of tax decree, but why should it be exclusive to Persians, why must the other be locked out of it?
Instead, Andalusians in-game get a weird cheesy tradition which makes mercenaries practically free when coupled with the initial struggle phase, along with 'hit and run tactics', 'ritualised friendship' (another cheesy tradition which allows you to befriend anyone very easily), 'expert artisans', and 'tabletop warriors'.
Meh, it's really doesn't make too much sense imo. I mod Andalusians to have the exact same traditions as the Persians any time I play in the region, I genuinely believe they fit them better than they do the Persians, even if they fit the Persians quite well too.
Edit: Spelling

How is the dynasty head determined when you're playing as an ecclesiastical ruler and there are secular rulers in your dynasty?

I’m on ps5 and am wondering if purchasing either of these dlcs would be good. I have somewhat of an idea of their concepts but am not all that familiar on how the gameplay plays out, so if I could get a general idea of how fun this mechanic is considered to be that’d be great.
r/CrusaderKings • u/IceGube • 3h ago
Made a post about this abhorrent and blasphemous spelling error pre-dlc. The devs listened. Christ be praised. Long live Pope Leo.

I just bought this thing for 5g. I'm literally selling it in Tulaytulah! I can't even wear it because I don't have that as a holy site!
e: Just got two more from a single trip and sold both of them for 80g and 84g. Forget contracts, I know how I'm making my money this run.

R5: I was playing as the bishop of munster and when I'm annoited as Archbishop of Cologne apparently I can take a decision to bypass the college of cardinals and become pope claming that I'm faithful (which is like 1 peregrinage to get it) and I have a holy site (not even Rome btw). Who in the god's creations decided that this decision make any sense?

If you're a temporal head of faith and is mainline, you can swap Lay Clergy and Temporal Head at the same time and it automatically swaps you to theocratic without needing a decision or weird finagling.
That means therefore, as the the caliph you can form Dar Al Islam (which is a de jure title) AND the HOF title, forever binding that whoever rules your dominion must be your faith, and must be theocratic.
To ensure this stays forever, of course you forbid all other rites.
I might have to test this idea next weekend. Here goes African Dar Al-Islam
