Troubleshooting Asrock 9070 caught fire. Pc won't turn on anymore.

• Upvotes

So hello everyone.

I was with using one chrome window and one vscode window when the image turned off, I stood up to turn the pc off, heard a sparkle and then the gpu (asrock 9070 steel legend) caught fire by the power connectors. My psu is a 850w thermaltake tough power that I've been using for maybe 2 years, all original cables. The gpu was bought 2 weeks ago.

Now the pc is also not turning on.

This happened just now, I'm shaking.

Ideas for both the gpu and the rest of the pc? I never rma'd something like this, even less not living in the US / Europe. Help.

Edit: I am attaching a photo of the burnt area. It is not on the connector.

UPDATE: after struggling a bit to make the igpu work, the pc turns on.

UPDATE 2: I asked the charbot from the store I bought the gpu for help and it granted me a full refund of the gpu once I send it back.

Would it be wise to replace the psu just to be safe?

Photo of the burnt area.

Build Help Is at a good idea to buy AM4 in hope of running it till the end of AM6?

My old LGA 1151v2 motherboard with Intel cc150 died. Initially, I wanted to upgrade it to AM5, but as I still have perfectly fine 24gb of DDR 4 and 9060xt 16gb and it cost around 600 EUR to buy 32gb DDR5 where I live, I am thinking about 5700x (with possible future upgrade to 5800x/3d) + Asus PRIME B550-PLUS (very few options for 8 usb ports) in hope that in 5 years RAMpocalipse will be over and I'll be able to buy later AM6 to run through AM7.

It either this or I am paying local hobo to questionably source some DDR5 RAM, it is ridiculous

Edit. Thanks for your input, I'm actually considering buying 12600k/14600k with ddr4 motherboard with future possibility to upgrade to a higher lga 1700 CPU. The only downside is that I'll have to import decent motherboard from Romania

Build Help RX 9070 XT or no XT?

• Upvotes

Hey all, i’m a complete noob to pc building and I’m trying to make a decision between the ASRock RX 9070 or RX 9070 XT. My goal is to be able to run modern games in the 100 fps range and i’m not concerned about 4k gaming. Is it worth investing the extra money in the XT, or should I save my money? If anybody has either of these graphics cards let me know your experience with them!

Build Help First time building a PC [UK]

Hey everyone!

I was originally planning to get the Steam Machine, but I've started considering building my own gaming PC instead. I figured I'd get more performance and flexibility for my money.

This will be my first time building a PC, though, and honestly, I'm a little scared of messing something up, especially when spending this much money on parts.

Here's the build I've put together, coming to around £1613:

PCPartPicker Part List

Type Item Price
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor £282.99 @ Amazon UK
CPU Cooler Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler £29.99 @ Amazon UK
Motherboard MSI PRO B850-S WIFI6E ATX AM5 Motherboard £119.99 @ Amazon UK
Memory Klevv FIT V 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) DDR5-6400 CL32 Memory £190.99 @ Currys PC World
Storage Kingston NV3 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive £129.98 @ Scan
Video Card PowerColor Hellhound OC Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card £729.00 @ Amazon UK
Case Montech XR ATX Mid Tower Case £49.99 @ Amazon UK
Power Supply Montech CENTURY II 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply £79.99 @ Scan
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
Total £1612.92
Generated by PCPartPicker 2026-10-15 00:44 BST+0100

I'm mainly looking for a gaming PC that'll last me a good few years. I'm open to changing parts, especially the RAM and SSD, as I'm not sure they're the best choices for the money. I usually tend to indulge in 1080p/1440p gaming.

What do you think of the build overall? Is there anything you'd change or any potential issues I've overlooked? Thank you!

P.S. I am terrified of building the PC myself but again I don't want to pay a huge amount for over expensive pre-builts.

Discussion Are pre- owned / refurbished GPUs good to buy, and if so, where is the best place, and can you verify it is working properly?

This might be a very noob question, but im looking to upgrade my build somewhere along the line, as I didnt make this myself, it was my uncles and he sold it to me for a decent price since he wasnt using it much, and im looking to upgrade somewhere along the line and am looking at maybe a 5070 or 9070xt, I heard that since the 5090 has effectively been cancelled prices are going to go up? I was wondering then are pre owned or refurbished gpus going to be good to buy, and from where, and how to verify they work?

Discussion Looking to get a pc (canada)

Build Help First build: Should I keep my RTX 5070 or swap to RX 9070 XT (same price)? Gaming + After Effects + streaming

I’m building my first PC (I am in Canada) and I’m stuck on the GPU. I already bought an MSI Warcraft RTX 5070 12GB ($1,124.99 CAD and if you include the shipping/tax = $1,288.59). I can refuse delivery and get refunded (minus $15.35 shipping).

The alternative is a PowerColor Reaper RX 9070 XT 16GB on Newegg for $1,250.91 CAD total - this is the cheapest i can find the 9070 xt has gotten so expensive(with a $50 promo, $47 shipping and tax). So switching costs me about the same, or slightly less overall.

Now see the reason that I bought the GPU in the first place was because my friend told me to get the RTX 5070 but I was just on reddit and everyone is saying the 9070 XT is on par with the 5070 ti and I regret listening to my dumb friend so bad:

Rest of the build (I havent bought it yet):

  • Amd for sure, most likely going to be getting the ryzen 7 whether that be the 7800X3D but i dont really know
  • AM5 build (not sure the mother board) but im def on be using 32 gigs of rams
  • 850W? not sure if thats good enough
  • not sure for the case kinda whatever bundle i get it with or whatever i see on facebook market or ebay
  • at least 1tb if im feeling a little greedy i might upgrade to 2tbs

I’m buying the rest in a few weeks once I’ve saved up, so I’m open to suggestions. This is not decided yet.

How I’ll use it:

  • Mostly gaming
  • Some video editing in After Effects and Premier Pro (less than I used to however, actually its very rarely not gonna lie)
  • Want to start recording YouTube videos, maybe live streaming
  • Monitors: 1080p 144Hz + 1080p 60Hz now, maybe 1440p later i wont go any higher, i dont really see the need for 4k

Right now I have the hp pavillion gaming pc and it has: i7-10700F, GTX 1660 Super 6GB, 16GB DDR4

I’ve always used NVIDIA and like its features well cuz this was really the only computer ive had so i dont know at first i wanted to stay familiar yk?, but everyone says the 9070 XT is 15–25% faster and has more VRAM. Is switching worth it for my use, or should I keep the 5070?

So essentially If I refuse the delivery, Memory Express refunds everything except the $15.35 shipping. The RX 9070 XT on Newegg comes to $1,250.91 total ($1,109.99 + $47.01 shipping − $50 promo + tax). So switching would $1,266.26 if I include that I paid for shipping for no reason, but this would be about $22 less than keeping the 5070. It also comes with a free game (Onimusha). So I’d basically be getting a faster card with 16GB of VRAM for slightly less money. The catch is that I’d lose NVIDIA’s features, which I’m used to. The promo ends October 18. I have the money to buy the 9070xt now, or would it be better to wait for the refund back. I bought it on memory express and they said it would take 5 - 7 business days to get it back. So I would appreciate if you guys can help me now(ish).

Do I refund the gpu tommorow, and buy the 9070xt today or whenever I get my money, or do I keep the 5070, I am not sure what I should do

Build Help Upgrade suggestion

Currently have an old build that I got for free a long time ago. Its an i-7 2600 series, 16gb ddr3, pny 1070 oc edition, in an old nzxt case. Computer sat for awhile, but recently been getting back into pc gaming. Computer runs well after putting new ram and an ssd in. My cpu cooler pump is making some noise and needs replacement. Its always treated me good, but its age is Definitely showing. Im planning on buying a new cooler and case, but have also thought about just building/buying a new computer. I mostly play World of warcraft, and a few other games here and there. Just putting a feeler out there for thoughts and suggestions.

Build Help RYZEN 7 9800x3d CPU 6900 7800 9070

I have a question: I’m planning to buy a GPU mainly for Fortnite at 240 FPS and the occasional story-driven game at 4K 60Hz.

I saw a used RX 6900 XT for 450,000 Argentine pesos ($295 USD) and a new RX 79070 for 1,150,000 Argentine pesos ($750 USD). That’s a huge price difference—is it worth it?

I also saw a used RX 7800 XT for 800,000 Argentine pesos ($525 USD).

Build Upgrade Buying a new GPU in todays market, is there a lot of FOMO?

I've been wanting to upgrade but always holding slightly , I try to avoid the FOMO, most of the advice here on reddit is "you must buy now before its too late", however I'm always in two minds where a 5070ti is almost two years old and costs over 1000£ and getting more expensive which is crazy, we all know that.

However it could also come crashing down, wondering people who've bought at these peak prices either in straight cash or via credit card or monthly payments, what's your views on the price of the card also dipping the other way and being worth half in 2 years from now? Brings back those memories from the 2000 series where people were paying a grand during the lockdown only to lose half of it.

Build Upgrade Looking to upgrade from my 3070

My 3070 is wonderful, I got it on release and I've used it since I built my pc 6 years ago but it's time to upgrade. What gpu would provide the best value that would let me run modded cyberpunk at psycho ray tracing? I've been seeing about the 5070ti and that looks like a reasonable option? I just upgraded the motherboard, ram, and CPU and it's time to get a gpu that matches the speed those provide

Build Ready? Can this run 4k 60hz and friendslop games?

I'm currently building a pc for my home 4k 60hz tv, because I refuse to buy every subscription on the face of the earth in order to watch stuff, and this is what I came up with. do you guys think this will work? the only things I will be doing on this is downloading movies, watching them at 4k, and the sometimes friendslop games like jackbox/boomerangfu/plateup, and I"m trying to build the cheapest pc possible.

specs:

cpu - amd ryzen 5500f

motherboard - gigabyte b550m ds3H

gpu - msi gaming 1660 super

ram - 16gb ddr4

storage - tn320 256GB ssd pcie gen 3.0

case - A3 microatx mid-tower computer case

cooler - peerless assassin 120 se

all in total, including deals and discounts, i'm able to build this for only 570 dollars. do you think this would be fine for my specific needs?

Build Complete Another build down! - I liked the way it turned out!

https://imgur.com/a/ZByGWKt

Finished this build for a client using the Montech King 15 Pro and NX600 CPU cooler. Really happy with how this one turned out.

The King 15 Pro gives the build a clean showcase look, and there's plenty of room to work with when putting everything together. The NX600 is a nice addition too, providing air cooling for the CPU to help keep temperatures under control during gaming without needing a liquid cooler.

Everything came together nicely, and the finished build looks great. The client was happy with the result, which is always the goal.

Definitely a combination I'd consider using again for another gaming PC build.

Rest of the specs:

Intel i7-10700K

EVGA 2080 SUPER FTW3 (what a beauty)

Corsair RM850e Power Supply

1TB NVME

They wanted something simple that can handle 1080p Medium-High settings and this 2080 8GB SUPER is still very much capable. They also wanted RGB aesthetics so this Montech case was a perfect fit.

Build Upgrade DDR4 vs DDR5 upgrade

I’m running an i5 12400F, rx6700, 16gb ddr4 3600Mhz on a B660 motherboard, with a 560W PSU.

I’m upgrading my single 1080p monitor to dual 1440p monitors.

I intend to run GTA6, so I need more juice. I’ll definitely need more RAM to begin with.

So this is my 1 year plan:

  1. Monitors + RAM (16->32) - now
  2. GPU + PSU (maybe a 5070ti) - in 6 months
  3. CPU (intel 14th gen or move to AM5) - in 1 year

The thing is: if I stay in intel, everything is fine, and I’ll keep my DDR4 RAM. If I move to AM5, I’ll have to purchase a new mobo, new RAMs (losing money on the RAMs that I purchase now), but I’ll have the DDR5 upgrade.

What should I do? Is DDR5 all that worth it?

Build Help Planning to build a PC. Please help and tell me if my plan makes sense or not, and what I can change

• Upvotes

Started off by doing some research around this subreddit, came up with some ideas, started playing around PCPartPicker and came up with a draft, asked Chat GPT to help provide some suggestions on what could be made cheaper, would love to hear from the experienced folks here what they think of both the original and suggested/updated list as well as maybe if you all think something else is better.

I would love to get this build cheaper if possible, I can afford to spend the $2,500 CAD from the original quote i rung up, and the $2,000 CAD from the one Chat GPT suggested, but would prefer a cheaper route if the use cases I present allow for a cheaper route provided the quality and durability of the build is still there. I am based in Canada.

For context...

Would like to use the PC for my daily tasks and work and occasional gaming as well. Games that come to mind that I enjoy would be things such as Europa Universalis 5, CS GO, Skyrim, Stardew Valley, would also plan to play GTA 6 once out.

I am far from a graphics junkie, don't see myself ever needing 4K, I hear all this talk as well about how great 1440p is compared to 1080p but even that does not move me, I believe the difference is there but for myself the game itself running smoothly is more important that the craziest top of the line graphics.

I value having a system that can run these games, similar ones, and frankly most available games smoothly without hiccups, not even necessarily needing max settings, and durable parts that will last a long time without me needing to worry about them failing or going moot (warranties are nice too.)
