I work as a freelancer, through an agency. You know the drill, they sent me to an interview, I aced it, signed a contract with the agency. I send them an invoice every month for the number of days I've worked, they invoice the client, I get paid by the agency.
In the contract it is stipulated that they pay me within 45 days of receipt of the invoice, and they are always late. I complained a few times, nothing changes, and finally they told me that because the client pays them late they can't pay me on time.
That's obviously not my problem but I offered them a reasonable solution - they will pay me a little bit more, and we'll update the terms to allow payment within 60 days. They have declined, and now I'm waiting to see if they'll pay me on time this month, but I'm not holding my breath.
So if they continue delaying my payments - what are my options? I guess there is some sort of small claims court (not sure what's the precise Belgian term), which would be a lot of hassle and may not be worth my time, but at least if I know what's the process, I can perhaps send them a credible threat by registered mail so they take me more seriously?
What would you do in my situation?
It pisses me off because they did a bit of work years ago (yes, I keep getting extensions to my contract) and now they are collecting a commission for literally nothing, yet refusing to be reasonable with the goose that lays golden eggs for them.
