iOS Beta RE: Beta Icon. I still prefer the OG, but if they must change it, why not something like this?

Tying it in with the Apple TV logo creates consistency between both of Apple's entertainment streaming services. It's still simple looking but better than basic black and white IMO.

I find the black & white design strange, I wish they had the purple/blue/red accent of the note as on the iOS 10 app icon.

Along with the icon and color change update, the discs was also improved, now, when you select an disc, only those songs are added to the queue, not the entire album.

Complaint Been buying songs on iTunes since 2005; where’s my music?

I’ve been noticing this over the last six months, but music I purchased when I first got iTunes is disappearing. Songs I know for a fact I downloaded because I still listen to them often; entire albums are gone. I’ve rebought a few that are really important to me, but I noticed it even more today and at first I thought I was going crazy but it’s undeniable at this point.

I’ve had my current laptop since 2021 so this isn’t a ‘I transferred laptops and didn’t back up my music’ situation.

I’ve gone allllll the way back in my purchased history to 2005 and ‘requested’ my music back, but tonight I tried that again and the route I took last time is gone. My ‘purchased’ playlist is gone too.

Am I just crazy? (It’s possible.) Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Discussion aptX codec superior than AAC?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Doing some A/B testing with aptX codec makes such a difference in terms of clarity and openness in the perceived sound quality.
I've performed the tests using the Sony XM3 which is getting on a bit and although they are a bit over the top in terms of bass and definitely not audiophile level, they still perform quite well.
For the aptX I used a Macbook Pro 2015 running Mojave since that was the last macOS that supported aptX codec for bluetooth audio, music.apple.com running on Firefox ESR since iTunes on Mojave won't let me log in and Safari won't display the website properly. All songs played without spacial audio.
For AAC bluetooth codec I used the same Sony XM3 and iPhone 16 pro running iOS 27.
The headphones had no special EQ set, nor did they have DSEE HX on.
The difference is really perceivable!
With aptX the sound comes out clearer, more detailed, more spaced out. AAC is somewhat muffled, not as much separation. The bongo beats in Michael Kiwanuka's You Ain't the Problem sounds as if inside my head with iPhone/AAC codec while the Macbook/aptX is so much separated, not like fake stereo but positioned in terms of the other instruments.

What have I learned from this? AM quality is pristine. The source material should be the same regardless if via music.apple.com or the app. The only factor here being the different is the codec used. I find it great that even with lossless turned off, the 256 kbps AAC is more than enough. What I kind of regret knowing now is that AAC codec is under performing on the iPhone and I can't pin it out on the codec itself, on how iPhone outputs the AAC codec or if the Sony XM3's AAC codec is to blame. Many variables to isolate, I guess.

UPDATE: Using the additional tools fox Xcode in Mojave I switched between AAC/SBC/aptX in the audio options and I found out the perceived sound quality from the Mac to the headphones is mostly the same, so iPhone's bluetooth codec is to blame here.
What do you guys think?

Discussion Does the logo change signal bigger things to come with AM?

As it says on the tin. With AM's new logo change, its got me wondering if they are perhaps more transformative changes down the line like device countunity, free versions, and other things I can't quite think of. Do you think Apple has bigger changes and additions to AM in the future?

Discussion Leave Spotify for Apple music

Goodmorning everyone! I've been on spotify for about 2 years now I like it & everything but I was on Apple music before that. I've been missing the apple UI, it's so much better than Spotify's after all these recent updates. Should I switch? What's your experience with both? Is there a difference? Im also debating getting Apple One since my family is all on the Apple Ecosystem.

Discussion Maybe the problem with the Apple Music icon isn’t its color, but its identity.

Nobody would ever associate a music note exclusively with a single music app. That is precisely the issue: a musical note is a generic symbol, not a brand identity. It’s like a phone receiver or a speech bubble everyone uses similar symbols because they represent universal functions.
That made sense when Apple Music was essentially just another music service.

Today, it has grown into a full fledged brand of its own. Apple has already been using the Apple logo alongside the word "Music" in promotional materials and other applications for years. The natural next step is to gradually retire the musical note and establish  Music as the core visual identity of the service.

There is also the historical link to iTunes. The musical note carries that legacy, which might explain why Apple continues to hold on to it. However, Apple Music and iTunes are distinct products today. Why keep mixing their visual identities? Separate them once and for all, just as Apple has done with its other products and services.

Ultimately, people can suggest a thousand different colors, but none of them will fix the lack of a genuinely unique identity. Any music service can use a musical note; only Apple can turn the apple into an instantly recognizable symbol for Apple Music.

Has anyone been unable to watch the Apple Music Hall livestream in Apple TV and Apple Music? I just wished they told us earlier on which country would be able to watch it. Even followed the instruction Apple gave in their facebook post, but still no livestream

Question Album Listeners: What’s Missing?

Calling all album listeners!

I am in the process of building a service for music discovery. I plan to add support for singles along the line, but for now it is completely album / EP focused.

I won’t go into the specific details of what I have built so far just now, but I am interested to hear from others that listen to albums regularly. What is missing from your Apple Music experience that you would ideally have? Below are a few ideas to get the ball rolling:

  1. A more native album queueing experience.
  2. Dedicated menus for discovering new albums and EPs, rather than single songs, artists and playlists.
  3. Tracking of how many times I have listened to specific albums.
  4. How many of an artists discography I have listened to.
  5. Reviewing of albums (letterboxd, goodreads style).
  6. Easily being able to see which albums that I have saved but not listened to yet.
  7. Saving of progress made through an album so I can resume later.

If your disposition is, “honestly I am an album focused listener and I just don’t have a problem” that would also be good to know, as well as features of services like Apple Music that you know and like.

Tool [iOS / macOS] FastScrobbler — Last.fm / ListenBrainz scrobbler app for Apple Music

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi r/AppleMusic! I built FastScrobbler, an iOS and macOS scrobbler designed specifically for Apple Music users scrobbling to Last.fm or ListenBrainz. 🎧

Download for free on App Store: https://apps.apple.com/sg/app/fastscrobbler-for-last-fm/id6759501541

The goal was simple: make scrobbling reliable, develop a great free scrobbler, and attempt to capture plays as accurately as possible.

Core features (all free):

  • Instant Now Playing status & auto-scrobbling: Automatically updates your status as soon as playback starts, with built-in duplicate prevention.
  • Listening History and Apple Music API: If iOS suspends the app while you're listening, it scans your listening history when reopened. It also checks the Apple Music Recently Played API to catch songs you streamed outside your library.*
  • iOS-friendly features: Includes Live Activities (Lock Screen & Dynamic Island), iCloud sync, and Shortcuts / Control Center actions.*
  • Works with both Last.fm and ListenBrainz.
  • No scrobble limit, scrobbling is completely free.

The Pro upgrade unlocks optional customisation features for tighter control over your stats.

  • Choose scrobble threshold (trigger at 10%, 25%, 50%, or 75% of track length).
  • Automatically remove brackets from titles (e.g. [Remastered] or (Deluxe)).
  • Custom text-replacement rules for artists, albums, and tracks.
  • Auto-favourite Apple Music tracks as "Loved" on Last.fm.
  • Option to scrobble the primary artist or prefer Album Artist.

The core scrobbling features are completely free to use. The Pro upgrade is a $4 one-time purchase on iOS, and already included for free on macOS.

Let me know your thoughts about the app in the comments. I also frequently respond to questions in r/FastScrobbler. Thank you! ❤️

Question Did I lose my playlists?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I had Apple Music’s for a few years and recently decided to take a break and listen to my cd collection.

Did I lose everything I had collected?

If I renew my subscription under the old user account do I get my music playlists back? Could anything be stored in ITunes?

I still have all my Spotify playlists from years ago, does Apple delete everything and you have to start over?
Anything In the image shown is empty.

I feel like the shuffle feature for Apple Music playlists has gotten better lately. It used to always play the same songs near the beginning, but recently it feels like it's actually shuffling properly. Anyone else experiencing this?

Question Good flac player - locally stored files on phone?

I noticed my ipad didn't have a flac player. Not an emergency as my android phone has a couple.

My current phone has a potential crack in the screen. I was considering going to the darkside for the first time but a good flac player will be the decision maker. I'd want to use it to play my songs in my car and I don't want to convert any of them. If I convert them then I have to keep track of two sets of music - I get a new song in flac then I have to convert it and put it in the right folder - not gonna happen.

Does anyone have a recommendation? (other than converting the files)

Thanks.

Complaint Album isn’t adding to library properly, nor downloading. Any fix?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It works properly on my iPad though, so this is something only on my phone. Also, sometimes, when I try to favourite a song from said album, multiple entries of the same song show up, but ‘aren’t available in my region’. I’m on the latest iOS Stable

Complaint AM on Macbook: some songs greyed out??

I have songs on my playlist that play from my iphone, but on my macbook they’re greyed out.

Searching for the song and playing it from there works, but adding it to a playlist greys it out.
