lookingfor Obgyn Recommendations? (incl. rant about IUD)

• Upvotes

Got my IUD replaced yesterday and it was a horrible experience. I specifically asked for pain management because the process is extremely painful for me, and I detailed that the first time I got one I passed out from the pain, and I think I have some form of medical PTSD from the experience. The doctor was dismissive and said any sort of numbing or local anesthesia was completely unnecessary.

I am very sensitive to pain, and I have been since I was young, I've always known this about myself. She kept reassuring me the cervical relaxers would be enough. I listened because she is a doctor and the first time I didn't even have relaxers given to me, but she was completely wrong, and I was crying and shaking and trying to keep my composure despite the pain when she clasped the cervix (you know, how they literally stab it to stabilize it), but at the removal it was so painful I screamed. At this point she should have offered some pain mediation, but instead she looked at me blankly and said "That wasn't even the worst part." Already it felt like I had been stabbed with a knife.

Of course the next insertion was so much worse that a nurse ran in to check on us. After, she said something about how the pain is mostly in my head as a fear response anyway. It absolutely was not. IUD insertion is the most painful thing I have experienced in my life, and yes I have broken a bone before. She also commented that she hopes I don't have more PTSD from this experience, as if she even attempted to help me through it in some way.

Anyway, I am learning German since I just moved here, but unfortunately I am not at the level yet where I can see a doctor in German. I have to get the IUD placement checked in 6 weeks, so I'd like to visit an alternative location to this one where they speak English.

The name of the practice was SihlGyn, I'd appreciate any alternative suggestions in the Zürich area. I know most doctors aren't taking new patients, and this place had great reviews but somehow it was still awful. I've never had an OBGYN that DOESNT dismiss my pain as if I'm faking it or some kind of baby that just needs to grow up.

lookingfor Hochdeutsch üben in Zürich – hat jemand Lust?

• Upvotes

Kosten: Mit welchem Budget pro Person sollte man ungefähr rechnen?

Ich bin für alle Tipps und Erfahrungsberichte dankbar, insbesondere für Empfehlungen zu Locations oder Anbietern in Zürich!

lookingfor Looking for a Techno Buddy to go out this Friday

Hey everyone,

I’m M33 and I’m looking to find some people to go out this Friday.

None of my usual friends are free and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to meet someone new to go dance with.

A bit about me:
- I speak Schwizerdütsch, English and Italian
- I’m into Melodic Techno, Tech House and Hard Techno.
- I’m looking to dance mostly and just vibe.
- I’m pretty chill respectful and a bit introverted.

What I'm looking for:
Ideally, looking for a small group or just one person to meet up with beforehand for a drink, and then head to the club together. I’m not looking for anything sketchy, just good music and good vibes.

If you’re open for a +1, drop a comment or shoot me a DM!

Let’s get lost in the music! 🖤

lookingfor Zurich house heads, where are u?

Hey! I’m Stephan, I play as Boy Sonic and co-run Bitch Pleaze, a house music project to say at least.

I’m mostly into Chicago house, with some Detroit hypnosis, New York grooves and a soft spot for dirty disco. The sort of person who goes looking for one record and resurfaces three hours later.

I’d love to meet more people in Zürich who share that excitement: DJs, producers, party organisers, record collectors or people who always know where the good music is happening.

Would be lovely to swap discoveries, mix together, go dancing, support each other’s nights and see whether any ideas turn into something. I can bring records, experience putting on parties and considerable enthusiasm for a good bassline.
Finding your people here can take a little effort, so here’s me making some. If this sounds like your corner of the scene, say hi! Coffee or a record shop wander would be a good place to start 🙂

Translation for non-Swiss German speakers:

Hello,

In early January I will be taking my practical driving test in Hinwil and feel quite nervous. My friends/ family members have already completed their tests years ago in Zürich city and unfortunately kinda forgot most of the test, so they're not able to give me any good feedback. So, I thought I could ask here: 1. Do you remember the route you took? 2. How long was the highway stretch you had to drive? (I am especially nervous about this) 3. How long was the whole test? 4. Do you have any other tips or points that are important to know? 5. Were you asked questions? Thank you!

lookingfor Recommended fishing spots on Zürisee? (Public-transport accesible)

Hey, folks!

Looking for recommendations on spots to fish that are accessible with public transportation on Zürisee.

I am new to fishing in the area and am not quite sure I understand ... can I just pop up on any lake-side spot and drop my line in? I have not been able to find information on designating fishing areas. (Except for the fact that there is the general no-fishing area in the northernmost, downtowrn corner of the lake.)

Thanks so much! Cheers.

ihaveaquestion HB escalator working only in the morning?

It's been months now that the HB escalator for platforms 42/43 is stuck going down but not in the mornings.

Since it's always working in the mornings, I assume it's not a fault, but something intended. Someone told me they are already stuck at noon.

What's going on? What's the reason to keep an escalator working in the morning but stop it later on till the next morning?!? Is this a new original way to fight climate changes or to force swiss people to do more exercise?

ihaveaquestion Küsnacht vs Kilchberg: Which is better for families with young kids?

Hi everyone!

We’re a family with two young daughters (4 and 6), currently living in Geneva and planning to move to the Zurich area.

We’ve found a couple of places we really like in Küsnacht and Kilchberg, but we don’t know either municipality particularly well.

Our main priority is our kids. We’re an international family, but we’d like our daughters to grow up in the local Swiss community, attend public schools, speak Swiss German and make local friends. So we’re not considering international schools.

From what we’ve heard, both places have excellent public schools and are great for families, but we’re struggling to understand the differences.

A few questions for parents living in either municipality:

  1. Are you happy with the local public schools? Any differences in quality or atmosphere?
  2. How’s family life? Is it easy for kids to make friends and participate in local activities?
  3. If you had to choose between Küsnacht and Kilchberg for the next 10 to 15 years, which would you pick and why?

Would really appreciate hearing from parents with firsthand experience, especially those with kids in the local school system.

Thanks!

lookingfor Affordable Martial Arts Gyms in Zurich (Zones 110/154)

Hey everyone! Does anyone know a cheap martial arts gym in Zurich (ZVV zone 110 or 154)? Ideally K-1 or Muay Thai, but I'm open to other martial arts except Aikido.

I'm on a very tight budget, so ideally looking for something affordable with monthly payments. Any recommendations? Thanks!

ihaveaquestion Which Zurich districts would you recommend?

Hi everyone,
I’m moving to Zürich around the end of the year / beginning of next year for work and I’m trying to get a better feeling for the different areas.
I’ll be working in Altstetten, so I’d like an easy commute, but I also don’t necessarily want to live there if there are nicer options nearby.
I’m 24 and moving from Amsterdam. I like sports, the gym, nature, cafés/restaurants etc. I don’t need to be right in the middle of nightlife, but I also don’t want to live somewhere that feels completely dead.

My budget is max CHF 2,600, preferably for at least a 2 or 2.5 room apartment. Something modern would be nice (but realistically speaking I know that is difficult to find) and having my own washing machine would definitely be a plus.
So far I’ve mainly been looking at Altstetten, Wiedikon/Sihlfeld, Höngg and Schlieren.
I also found a place around Lochergut/Sihlfeld recently, which made me wonder if living a bit closer to the centre might actually make more sense while still being close enough to work.
Not really asking people to find apartments for me, I’m mostly just trying to learn more about Zürich and hear opinions from people who actually live there.

If you were in my situation, which areas would you look at? Any places I’m missing?

lookingfor Price suggestions for a Lenovo Legion 5 with an RTX 3070

Thumbnail tutti.ch
0 Upvotes

Hey guys, I just wanted to see what you guys think I should sell this Lenovo Legion 5 for in Zürich?

For now I put it at CHF 900.

Here are the specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics
32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz RAM
2 x 1 TB SSDs
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6H

I have no use for this laptop since I have another laptop for work and a gaming pc.

I upgraded the RAM and added another 1 TB SSD, totaling 2 TBs of storage now. It works just like always.
